Not Good for Tailoring
# Jun 07 2007 at 4:10 PM Rating: Excellent
As far as tailoring goes, these are not good for farming.

First off you have to deal with the spawn rate. There are about three to four of them up max at a time and so you have to kill off velium hounds and bronto's and rhinos as their PH's to get them to spawn.

The drop rate on the silk according to 78 recorded loots on Magelo is 30.77%. Although they drop 2 silks each time its still one swatch per three kills. If you are making the 295 ice silk bracers it takes one swatch per attempt but it also takes a platinum thread and a vial of purified mana which uses the rubies to make. This means that you are still outputting the pp in ingredients even if you farm your own silks for swatches.

So after zoning into WW you get about 1 maybe 2 skillup attempts per clearing and that is with planning on purchasing the ingredients. Its just unpracticle unless you are there for farming the velium hound furs for the Sebilis mask quest anyway, and then plan on paying extra for the ingredients.

Its much easier albeit more boring, to farm othmirs in Cscar for the 295 cloak. You need 4 furs for that combine but it only takes a silver thread and a cheap 20p vial from the bazaar that is always available to buy from somebody. Since you get on average 4-5 furs per clearing of the shore from othmirs you will get that each clearing. PLUS the pp you make from the loots off the othmirs will be a glad help to your tradeskilling budget. This step of tailoring from 260's to 295 will actually make you money as you farm the ingredients instead of the other way around.

Ok, working on my mage 1.5 this is what I did to get the 4 Ice Burrower Meat. From the zone in to Western Wastes, stay on the east wall and kill everything that's not a dragon, drake, wyvern, ie. kill no Claws of Veeshan faction mobs. Stay on the eastern wall and move from zone in to the northeast corner killing as you go. It seemed to me that they were spawning mostly at night time in game. I got the 4 meat in about 3-4hrs. Hope this helps...

ok if you want a good DC pet here what we do. find a pet root it and dot it 2 or 3 times . then DC it and buff it and hael . So your DC spell is the close to the last buff.. then have pet sit somewhere close by and scare an Ice borrow and bee dot and your fire dot and now get your pet on him then dot more nuke if you like. but if you ran off somwhere far he'll try to kill pet.. so stay close dont get hit .. have fun

Dire Charme can be dispelled and the Ice Burrowers proce a AE dispell, that's normaly what get me killed.
I get to close, the worm proce is dispell, wolfform drops, pet breaks charm, if I'm really lucky i get stunned as well but for the most part I'm just running for my life, not that it helps much...

This worm is easy. My 60 druid was soloing these and other fine animals in WW long before PoP or mana regen(was FT). This zone was made for druids. With ally to COV the dragons ignore you. The worms, rhino, wolf, mammoth, are all fair game.

The worm can be snared after a nice magic debuff. Druids have all this stuff for animals. Its called Charm Kiting. A lost art with all the twink mana gear, skill has left the game. So here's the quick rundown, charm an animal like mammoth. Park your pet. Debuff worm and snare. Dot the worm a couple times til you are near 80% on its health. Send in your pet. Keep your dots running so the worm chases you around. Your pet is bashing and doing damage. You will lose your pet if it gains aggro from worm. This is all done while you are in wolf form naturally. DRUIDS OWN > magicians.

I'm going to go out on a limb here & say that you've never played a mage. A lvl 60 mage pet fighting any mammoth in said zone would, & I'll use your own words, "....eat that mammoth pet" & still be wanting for seconds. Heck...the DS alone would kill it, to say nothing of all the pet buffs afforded a mage's pet. There is NO comparison pet vs. pet in any arena save a lvl 85 enchanter mezzing a hi lvl pet & even then, the mage pet wins out...EVERYTIME...

Sony needs to address this issue by either giving us an immunity to debuffing AA or by removing this ability/reducing the number of times cast by mob. Invalid argument. Epics 1.5 and 2.0 are very recent to EQ, these were around way way before. It's a backpedaling attempt to validate a giant grub proccing a dispel. The AE nuke is more than enough without them dispelling.

Went to WW to help a fellow guild member with an epic mob and was so glad I did. Aggroed one right from the ZI but didn't score any meat. Bleh. Without even moving, another walked right past me, aggro and dropped a meat. By the time we found the guild member's mob I killed four others, some right near each other, and got my last pieces.

Still it was wierd that on Terris-Thule they're rare but on Prexus you can't swing a dead cat without hitting one.

I don't have the lvl 66 Air pet (slumming with the lvl 61, sorry) and always seem to have the same result: finally find one after running around for half an hour, tag with buffed pet, blow through most of my mana bar and juuuuust barely kill it or it kills pet. I've got 5.3k mana and FT 10 with Enhanced DD jewelry and mount for medding (no KEI/VoQ). He resists a little too much and does too good of a job of breaking down my pet. He seems to have a very big HP pool and debuffs my pet which makes me wonder if keeping pet buffed is worth it. This punk will not run and will fight to the end. Got him down to 3pct tonight, killed my pet and still went after me! Bah!

My advice is to either use pet CH or Suspend Minion and have second pet ready when first dies. I'm thinking CH pet because it'll take another thirty minutes to find another of these stupid things! This camp is just like the four Torn Pieces in Nejena subquest from epic 1.0. Only worse because you have to chase after moving mobs.

Good hunting and ask any Druids inzone to help you find them.

Even better than getting a druid to help you track is get a druid to help you kill it. Or a necro. These things are simple to kill when you aggro kite them. If they aren't hitting anything then the AE proc and dispell are non-issues. Just takes a bit of time, thats all. You may be able to do it yourself if you have a fast SoW. Just nuke it a few times until it is good and pissed at you before you send in pet. Snare makes this a much safer exercise but it is not absolutely necessary. I'm killing them at 58 so your druid does not even have to be level 65 to be able to help.

56 necro
# Oct 25 2004 at 5:40 PM Rating: Decent
Nearly took one with my 56 necro until the phone rang and I turned too fast. Didn't even have demilich and mana wasn't an issue.

Just pull to DN valley so you have plenty of distance to kite and use rogue pet. I started off by getting dooming on it to slow it down, then stack ignite/splurt/CoC/bond on it and let it get down to about 90-95%, then use pet for a bit. Once splurt fades, back off pet and chain dooming until it lands.

If you are lucky, it can land right off, for me, I had up to 8 resists in a row. Once you get it resnared just stack on the 4 DoTs again/send pet in and just keep wearing it down keeping pet aggro in mind. If you get hit, you are dead, so make wide turns using the valley walls to your advantage.

I am a 58 Ranger on Quellious. I just soloed this guy - pretty much just cuz he surprised me and pissed me off by killing me when i was hunting Velium hounds for the last Coldain Prayer Shawl. Basically, just used kiting tactics. Ran him around in a big ol circle.. going clockwise if it matters.. between the spire right outside of the SG zone in, and the wall shielding DN. Used Snare, my wimpy little dots and of course lots and LOTS of arrows... took me about 2 hours to do it, and make sure you NEVER let him get near ya... 1 hit and I went from 100% down to 18% Health. Just my own experience. :o) Good luck, all.

These are a very nice test of your solo'ing ability as a shaman once Lodi gets too easy.

Good old fashioned toe-to-toe slug fest, make sure puppy is positioned behind and he will avoid the dispel (it is front arc only). Recommend opening with Malo or Malos, once slowed they don't hit too hard and once crippled the dispell proc doesn't go off so often. Use epic-clickie-boots from inventory and acumen (nice fast cast) to re-junk after dispells.

Any shaman with a couple of pieces of ornate and 63+ should have no real problem.

The dispels are nasty (goodbye pet buffs!) and they have a lot of hp. I saw a 65 bst with 65% slow fight one for several minutes before getting an add and having to run. Maybe he got unlucky. Aggro kiting probably works a lot better but then the % slow isn't an issue.

Soloed them easily with my 63 druid... Ensnare takes a while to land, but as long as you keep it snared, you can kite it across the whole zone (Assuming you have good CoV faction). Don't try to root -- It's a waste of mana.

Took me quite a few hits of both Winged Death and Immolation of Ro (going in tandum) to kill it, though. I'd estimate 10 to 20 shots of both. I was nearly OOM when I finished, but it's possible.

I was able to solo this guy last night with SOME difficulties. I used a rogue pet, ignite blood, and splurt. Anything over 4.0 second casting time WILL get you chewed on as he's chasing you. It seems to work best if you do NOT buff the pet. I ended up losing 2 pets that way and used quite a bit of mana. After about 15-20 minutes of kiting him around, he finally dropped, no loot. :(

Ice burrowers are simple kills for 58+ druids. Get yourself a charisma buff, kei is not needed, but recommended. Charm a nice pet, brontotherium or mammoth. Personally, i don't snare pet, i have ER3 and can charm an unsnared mob w/o being hit. Haste the pet and find an ice burrower. Ensnare him 3 times then let pet attack. Keep snaring and dotting the ice burrower, winged death works just fine. Do NOT let pet get agro on the ice burrower, because pet will break charm. Just keep going till pet takes down burrower, loot and sell for lots of money. So far the only problem i find is not having enough of them to kill, so i kill Velium Hounds for their fur, which also sells well. good luck

If you're a Ranger fear-kiting in Western Wastes, just keep your Track refreshed, sorted by distance, and if you see one of these close-by be sure to keep on the lookout. Their aggro range is very small and they are easy to outrun. They can dispell though so be careful and be sure to throw some junk buffs on first.

ACtually as far as I know, all mobs over level 55 are immune to fear spells anyways, as a 65 necro I have long abandoned the fear kiting method.

When you get to the higher levels you would think that you would or should not be able to solo reds that are 6 levels higher than you, and no help. Just you alone. Well this is totally wrong. If you charm a hound and pet haste it, then magic debuff the ice burrower (use this to pull it) then run snare, run snare, until it sticks (usually takes no more than 5 tries) then your set. Have the hound bite it while u dot it and run it around. Very good exp for a 55 druid and the skin sells for 750pp which is a nice bonus.
Also, you should have no problem not getting hit or whatever. If you get out of range, which is very easy to do when its snared. Just keep clicking your spell and when it casts you will be ok. It has to be very very close for it to hit or AE you. I have gotten off a 7 second cast with no problem at all. I have killed about 20-30 of these and never once been hit for 1 melee dmg, never been AE'ed and never been dispelled. Im guessing it only does the AE and dispell if you have someone tanking it, which by the way is not a good idea. =D

I'm a bit skeptical of this post. You can kill these by snaring then DoT'ing or with nukes. But, they debuff. As such, they knock charm off pets frequently. I've tried it with another druid and pets -- was a real hassle with charm breaks. Just kite 'em.

Actually, I'll amend my comment. If you make sure you have lock on aggro (for instance a glamour, snare and a nuke or two for druids should do it), then a pet can chase him all day without the IB turning on it.
#Yevun, Posted: May 13 2003 at 9:49 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) the skin is no drop only way to sell it is to sell looting rights an if u sold this for 750pp u got ripped lol.

2 58 druids, 58 beastlord, and 53 monk pulled one. druids snared and dotted it, and monk and beastlord beat it while it chased them. It was the first one we pulled, took about 5 mins to kill it. It dropped 2 Ice burrower skins. So both the beastlord and the monk got one.

Me (53 Ranger) and my bud (60 Ranger) Kite these all day long, take em down to the valley by ToV entrance to reduce your adds, and he holds aggro (snare alot, arrows, dots, nukes) while I follow behind shredding its arse.

Spilt the silks, get rich, and make a monk or two happy every now and again.

No Faction Hits
aprox 30K hitpoints
500 DD coldbased when it hits you + a debuff + whatever damage it does, usually 200+.
Kiting is the key here, to tank is stupid

60 Necromancer and 56 Magician pulled one around in circles while the pets beat it do death from behind. Never summoned or cast any spells. No loot, modest xp. It was a 10 minute fight though. Necro cast a snare dot. Pet's taunts were off, necro ran it around me while I cast the occasional Wrath of Elements and Scars of Sigil on it. Resisted about 1/3 of the time with Malosi on it. Had Von and several drakes and cragwurms walk through during the fight, no adds.

yaeth's 108 is apparently for: gift of brilliance (Enc. 60), malo (Shd. 60), and word of redemption (Clr. 60) research

Well I havent seen it posted here so this is how I do it. Snare a Glacier mastodon, GoT it then charm and SS it, then park it.

Find a handy ice burrower, GoT it then snare until it sticks. WD it and maybe throw in Ro for good measure (I dont bother) then let dumbo have some fun. Velium hounds have a greater damage output, but the mastodons have a massive amount of HP and insane regen, so if you lose agro or the IB rampages/enrages, your charm/ensnare etc will go before it dies.

I usually just circle kite, you can run a small enough loop that adds just arent an issue. Refresh WD/recharm pet as needed until dead.

It usually takes 35% mana (PotC and MotH, no kei, 3300 mana pool) and about 10 minutes to kill one. There is easier exp and much better loot out there, but its fun soloing yellow cons at 60 :)

(This works just fine for a 60 druid, YMMV)

Myself, 60 druid, and my brother, 56 monk, take these out in 6 minutes. The process is very simple:

1) glamour of tunare
2) snare
3) epic, SS bracer, Winged Death, Breath of Ro
(mob is very upset at druid now)
4) monk starts beating on tail

note: you do NOT need to root these in order to dot, they have a very small melee range. It will look like he's going to eat you when you are finishing up epic dot, but trust me you are safe. just run until he is out of range of your casting then click as soon as he is in range. rinse repeat. It should also be noted that monk is wielding a t-staff. I am not sure how other monk weapons will affect the time.

Drops were as follows -
1st worm - nothing
2nd worm - 2 Ice Burrower Silks
3rd worm - Ice Burrower Skin (Happy Monk)

Xytrani Malendios
60 Heirophant of Tunare
Eternal Vengeance

They do not summon.

They are very magic resistant but not 100%. Normal snares and roots are almost a waste of mana.

Fire based spells land on them. Although, they might be slightly more fire resistant than normal, but it could be just their level.
They run at normal mob speed. I can more than out run them with just run3.

They have about 32K HPs.

A lvl 60 (and maybe lower) wizard can pretty easily solo them with KEI. Although it takes a 15-20+ mins. Just run, turn and use draught of fire over and over. I have to run ahead and med when the ice burrow is down to about 30% health because I'm out of mana by that point.

They drop nothing most of the time. Not even coin. I never have seen the skin drop but it seems pretty rare from what I've read.

I would hardly call normal snares a waste of mana. As a 54 druid, it usually takes me 2-4 casts of snare (after glamor of tunare) before one sticks. And snare makes the fight so much easier, especially if you're using a pet, that I consider it more than worth the mana. And a 54 non-epic druid can solo them without kei. It takes a while, and you had best be careful about adds, but it can be done.

Solo-able by a 60 druid (without epic) in 12 minutes.

glamour, spam snare, WD, Flame lick (for agro control) - charm pet onto it. Manage agro on yourself and keep in casting range and pet will kill it for you.

If you let it agro on pet it will eventually dispell charm and snare on your pet - which is not good.

Any druid not using pets to kill outdoor mobs is working at 20% effectiveness ...

I am lvl 60 Necro, and lemme tell ya Necros rule this mob. Some people say kiting via pathing in WW is needed and I say no. I don't even use hardcore DOTs. I usually figure 8 Kite these guys in a small area and just DOT them with low time cast DOTs. Add into it my Necklace of Superiority, Bone Clasped Girdle (Longer DOTs) and Deflux, my mana never got below 90 percent with Arch Lich runnin. Hehe I kited and successfully killed 3 in a row one night. (Had mouse finger after). BTW these things have an INSANE regen capability. Got one down to 40 percent life when I had to FD cuz of a Velious Hound add. Not even 2 minutes later it was at full life. My average kill solo on these guys is 35 minutes. As a result I have my new Ice Burrower Silk sleeves for my Chanter Alt =) GL to all.

the reason this mob regens so fast like that, is that when you FD, and no one else is on the aggro list, all mobs have much higher regen. this mob's regen actually sucks in my opinion, since i killed him really easily solo as a level 60 necro. I agree with you tho, this is a trivial kill for a necro
Kiting em...

Been bow kiting them for a while now, that takes me almost an hour as well, to avoid the Add's I generaly kill all the hounds first.

Having worked in the zone for some time I worked out that the Burrowers never path themselves around the coastline where the pirates are, so I drag them there to kill.

(btw, i'm a L60 ranger with Endless Quiver)
