Got spell Shock of Poison from the wurm on 7/20. Also looted Shard Wurm Fang which is not listed in the "loot" dropped by these guys. Any ideas as to its use?

I soloed Young Shardwurms at level 40, I soloed my first Ancient Shardwurm yesterday at lvl 48.
Shardwurms don't hit very hard, they just have a nasty 100+ dd Ice Proc that likes to go off quite a bit. Ancients also can cast cleric spells, not all of them but some of them.
I would say they have 3000+ HP's maybe more, I didn't really keep track.

hail all,

Been fighting wurms in the cave scince lvl 36 tryin to snag my spell chilling embrace. I'm lvl 40 now and no drop yet, so i broke down the other day and bought it in bazaar for 80p as i hear its rare and hate missin spells. But have obtained some other spells, couple boons, a celestial heal and a tl. only hard part can be pulling them outside, as they like to stick on corners and keep hiting you with the 150dd ice proc if you don't get in melee range to get them around that corner on the left. Also don't run to far ahead if your pulling them, they have ADD and lose interest quick so gota keep them close, about in casting range. Good luck to you all on geting your spells.:)

I thought that killing wurms in the cavern in the middle of GD was the best bet to get biles.. After killing 120 (not exagerating)not 1 bile.. nothing.. went outside of the caves to the south,, there is a valley where they roam about.. i seen alot that glowed.. so i killed 2 . both had bile.. killed a few more (bored until night time again) more bile dropped.. SO it seems the only the ones out side of cave is where they drop. south part of caves in valley . lots around. Killed many with my 58 rogue, and 53 cleric

I've been solo'ing shardwurms in GD in the cave for the past couple of hours. I've killed a few ancients shardwurms.

Some are casters, some aren't. The ones that are casters nuked me for 212 points of damage and was able to heal itself, although not for very much. Maybe 500 points worth of healing at a time. They never chain heal though. They'll heal once, then nuke ya.

I just pulled a few, and they all seemed to be casters. What used to be a proc from their claws, has turned into a 150dd spell. With MR/CR up, the first 3-4 would land for little damage. After that, every single one landed for full damage. I was at my edge of casting range when they hit me with the spells.

Dooming, Pet, VoS, Fear, Sit then repeat.... i was slaughtering the wurm race looking for Necro 39 """Spell Chilling Embrace""" ... i'm begining to believe this spell is a myth, haven't seen it drop from any wurm in that cave "including Matriarch, and Shardtooth." But improved superior camo dropped from matriarch, i then gave to guildy "3K spell" hehe i love guildies. Anyway if anyone has this scroll or see's it on a merch buy it and send me a tell on Cazic Thule ... names Hexadon, Thanks

Spent several hours with a 51 Ranger freined last night. Myself a 42 wizard and he both had KEI on us. We hunted and pulled every imaginable Wurm, and then the fun started. The Crystalline Wurms would bail out once they got below 1 bub of health. We would chase/track them down, but some of the time we got no exp when we did finish off the kill. GM said, "Oh that's a bug". No kidding? Anyone have any brainstorms on how to a) keep these things from bolting away, and b) How to get the exp for the kills when you do find them?

I've noticed a bug with all mobs over the past few days. They will just disappear like they gated and will still be targetted. They reappear at their spawn point and usually just run back and forth. You could have your ranger track them if once of you still has it on track.

Been killing these yesterday with a group ranging from mid 30's to 48 (Me sk 48). Pulled some ancients ... no spells casted ...
Pulled one more, struck for 105, for 204 ok no problem for now ... Clawed a little too no worries ... Then come near the group with 2 bubbs of life and WHAM you have been struck down for 888 damage, Loading please wait :)

Well nothing more to say, except that I FD'ed all the next wurms that were casting spells :p

I killed one with my 33 wiz. I would have been much harder if I had lost sow during the fight. Coldain guys won't help you with this guy. If i got to close to his melee range I got hit with some kinda ice shard spells. I don't think a melee class should try and solo this guy.

Some of these shardwurms are clerics. Before June 06, They would cast Wrath on me and heal themselves. I could pick them out because they could see invis.

After June 06, they don't seem to see invis and they hit me with Judgement-a level 56 spell from a 36-40 Mob. I took 898dd in one shot and have just over 1200hp.

Absor claims this is "sort of a bug" (lv40 casting lv60 spells)

These guys are majorly underconned! So watch out if your a Druid tring to kite em cause they are blue to ya.Especially the cleric ones. They can also gate which is a pain. Im lv 31 shaman, and i was in a group of a bunch of mid to high 30 and 1 lv 40 guy, and we had such a hard time taking an ancient one. so we went back to killing frost giants. we got a Corperal Empathy though. that was good. also like 5pp. Im not coming back to fight these guys til im in my 40s. So good luck to you all on hunting these wurms and be safe!

Well, after reaching lvl 50, I decided to start hunting the wurms to get the translocate spell that this site said dropped off the wurms (they don't drop it). These babys regen on you! It is really frustrating to get these things to about 30% health, and have them regen back to 60-70% :(

i have had all different types of wurms gate out when near death.The youngers,elders,and ancients.I was hunting at the first cave entrance south of thurgadin,the gated to the hill just above the tunnel...just followed them up there and finished them of. )...But i have had them gate,and never saw them again...lol

After about 4 and a half hours of killing wurms (including named wurm Shardtooth 4 times), we walked away with spells: 2 shammie (forgot names), 2 necro (corporal Empathy), 2 mage (Elemental Maelstrom), 2 druid (Fixation of Ro), 1 cleric (Celestial healing), 3 glowing biles, 5 white scaled tunics, 2 white scaed legs, 3 shardwurm skin tunics, 1 shardwurm eye and lots of claws and stingers.
We starting pulling to the outside with group of 3 (45mage (me), 46druid, 51druid), then after getting a couple of tanks (43SK, 47Pally), we set up shop in one of the back caves with a 2 ancient spawn.

Pretty decent night.

7 Nights of Ancients

Below is an account of my experience hunting Ancients/Elders in their caves on the Thurdagin side. A total of 115 Wurms were killed and the loot per kill is recorded below. I've included stats on items dropped and the appropriate quest reward for no-drop quest items.

I started this killin fresh into level 39 and with 115 Wurm kills under my belt I will say that these guys are a brute to bring down. However, in that span of time I reached hell 40! Fortunately as a cleric it was easy to find a partner and one that ensnares is perfect for these beasts (Druid/Ranger w/Ensnare, Necro/SK w/Dooming Darkness or any other class that can slow the movement of the creature).

The pull strategy that appeared to work best is to go in and ensnare one, then let it come fully out of the cave to avoid Elder wanderers who will venture just outside tunnel and turn around in front of the entrance and go back in. Once out of the wanderers agro range, the next step is to fear it and nuke or beat on it. They are so huge you can still hit them from a nice distance. Ensnare/Fear/Kill worked 115 of 118 times, the other three where link deaths otherwise it would have been 118/118.

Doing this 115 times successfully however, resulted in a whole lot of loot. A couple notes though, 66 of the 115 had no loot, so don't get discouraged if you kill 5 in a row and get nothing. It made getting loot feel like you were getting something for your work. Though a detailed accout is listed below here is the general summary. Items included as loot but not included in summary below: Words/Runes, Wurm Meat and gems/jewelry. In every case the Wurm dropped an average of 3-6pp. The highest I've seen is 8pp and some gold.

This is why I came here in the first place, 1 bile down 4 to go.

Note- The Shardwurm Skin is nice Lowbie caster gear (an upgrade from Najena's Flowing Black Robe). The interesting thing about this item is that when worn by a caster they look more like a monk or druid. On a Gnome, it looks like a little black leather jacket (a mini fonzie).

Wow, great post there. Gives a good idea of spell drop rates and has kept me from getting discouraged (I've only killed about 10 Shardwurms so far).
