How to escape the kitties:
# Aug 20 2004 at 10:36 PM Rating: Decent
I've read in some of these postings that you cannot escape these cougars due to the fact that there is no zone nearby forcing you to root them and camp or sick your pet on them and camp....WRONG.

I arrived in iceclad soon after purchasing "Platinum Edition" to hunt snow cougars for the high quality pelt required for the cougarskin mask for my 39 ranger. These cats are not to be trifled with; never pull with any of their friends around or you will feel like your regular Christian in the Rome Colliseum. However if you do find yourself in the "I'm going to die soon" position, run to the end of the dock, hail the translocator at the end and type "north ro" and *poof* - you're safe! Practice this once or twice before finding yourself in the situation where you REALLY need it.

Sow in one form or another is mandatory in this zone - period. Many bad things roam this desolate zone and will group up on you quickly if you are running amok in terror trying to zone or get help.

Rangers: have your calm animal and panic animal spells on tap at all times and you will have little to fear. OH! Come in through Northern Ro Desert and save yourself a ton of running. This will also place you at the soulbinder and primo hunting ground in the Iceclad Ocean.

FYI: Snow cougars here are teeming and some conned light blue to my 39 ranger as well as dark blue. It's much safer and more fruitful than the Eastern Wastes for hunting these kitties! Good Luck!

There are posts that say that, because it used to be true. The translocators have not always been there. They were put in occasionally when the boats would break down, and then pretty much permanently shortly after the release of PoP. Prior to that, you had to run a LONG ways away, crossing quite a bit of water (and the cougars could usually swim much faster then you), past all the dire wolves and giants to Eastern Wastes.
wtf, druids are gimps...
# Oct 20 2003 at 12:39 AM Rating: Decent
Right, i dont know how druids cant lvl... started a druid on Sullon Zek(PvP... w/ no lvl restrictions or play nice policy) and in... 3 days 4 hours ive got a 30 druid.... now that isnt terribly fast BUT, im lvling practically naked (126 wis, base was 115) and i get PK'ed a bunch.... now, you ask why i post this? if i can solo cougars at lvl 28 practically friggin naked, any dumbie should be able to solo them easily w/ 200+ wis if they are a druid.

As a paladin in my low 30s, I enjoyed hunting near the pirate igloos; however, this was probably the first location where I hunted without a nearby zone to escape to. I recall several times being forced to Camp Out to escape.

For those of you who can root, Camping is a good escape option. If you can't root but you're a pet class, run off and let the pet get beat down while you Camp Out at a very safe distance.

Whatever you do, don't run near your bind point at the dock; that could get ugly if you die and respawn with an aggressive cat still close by.

Cougars are perfect for level Bard. I started at lvl 31 keiting them. It's simple: get at SOW potion with 10 charges or a Druid to refresh your sow. Now load your lvl 18 song Denon's Disruptive Discord, and your Brass instrument. Go to the open place NW of the Pirat iglo's. Dont get to close to the Pirats when singing our song...they don't like it..lol.
Now start singing and run around pulling all the cougars you can find. When you got as many you want start running in cirkels in the free area DOT'ing all in you small train. Dont get to close to them, while running, they often stun you, and 12 angry cougars all hitting you at the same time HURTS.
They are very social animals so they easy add when running close to them.
Happy Hunting..:)
RE: Powerlevel solo Bard

Just want to clarify a couple of things here, since i wished someone would have done this for me.

First I strongly agree that the sow potion is a great idea, this will run you roughly 60-120pp depending on server, but will eliminate the need to twist songs and will alow you to concentrate on your circles more, (this will be a highly needed skill as you get higher if you want to continue to solo kite)

Second this is going to be a guide / list of what i did, and what i have shown several bards on the stromm server and all have enjoyed this.

So to start this you need sow, regardless of how you get it, always refresh just before you pull so you are certain it will not wear out before the kite is done.

Well to pull i used Brusco's Boastfull Below then i switched to Hymn of Restoration just in case. You now have an angry cougar on your tail, just run by others and they will add. The island with the gnomes has 13 cougars on it, the Tower of Frozen Shadows has 23. Once you have all of your cougars that you want in your train, find a semi level area and hit numlock and F9 four times quickly, this will keep you runnin and switch to an above / behind view, (so you can see the circles you run in.)Now fire up Denon's Disruptive Discord and run in circles. *** watch for patroling gnomes, if you hit them with your ae song they will have to come along for the kite, and you will loose faction*** When only the last cougar is standing he will try to run, chain him and dot to death. Wait for repop and rinse and repeat. The cougars will take you up to level 37 or 38 before tooo many of them start turning Light Blue, then it is time to go to Spirocs in Timorous deep. Guide posted there too.

Now for some helpfull hints i have picked up and will share with you.

1. create a macro as follows
Line 1= /stopsong
Line 2= /pause 25, /cast 1 (one being heal )
Line 3= /stopsong
Line 4= /pause 25, /cast 2 (two being DDD)
2. place this macro on hotkey
3. now if you ever get hit, just hit this key several times and you no longer have to twist, the macro does it for ya, and you are back to full health.

Next For those of you just learning to AE kite, or that have never tried cougars i STRONGLY reccomend only pullin 2-4 cougars your first couple times till you get the handle on things.

Lastly i would like to mention dual island kites.
To do this all you need to do is pull all of the cougars from the ToFS island, then run to ice chunks that connect you to the gnome island and run to the middle. Stop and turn around to make sure the cougars are still following, once they get to the piece of ice next to yours turn around and continue to the Gnome island. Now just run around and pull all of those cougars as well. Now you have between 30 and 36 cougars on your tail, fire up DDD and run the circle dance with them, XP is uncerpassed anywhere in game compared to this. ***** This maneuver is VERY dangerous, only try this when you are extremly comfortable kiting all 13 on the gnome island******

I hope this helps fellow bards, if you ever need assistance my game name is TAIISIEN on the Stromm server, just send a tell.

These little bastards are hard as hell to see when walking around in EW. I'll be in a place that looks like it might be a safe place to med and WHACK one of these bastards starts clawing the **** out of me. Then ill have to run away or hope to hell i have enough mana to kill the *******.
Awsome xp
# May 18 2003 at 8:43 PM Rating: Excellent
Although most of the loot you get isn't all that great, unless you get lucky and get the earring or hq skin, these guys are just awsome for xp.. I went from lvl 29 to about lvl 34 on my beastlord on these guys, although I have rerolled as an SK, I'm hoping to have just as much fun with these guys as I did on my bst.
Warning: If you're hunting by the dock and binder, 1: Make sure you don't use any AE spells if you're pulling to dock, or make sure you're far enough away for them to not hit the NPCs, 2: There is a certain tree out slightly right from the dock where there seems to only be 1 cougar, don't let this get you, there are usually 3 of them there, making for nasty pulls, cause these guys are social, 3: One more thing, if you pull a cougar, assuming you're pulling to the water or dock, and the cat just disappears on you, but is still hitting you, back up onto land.. They tend to hide in the water and attack you some times...
Hope this info helped a bit, hunt safe all =D

This is a great zone for any ranger who has snare and panic animal. In other words, almost all of them. Soloing here at 32 and now 35 running one cougar after another.
Couple questions...
# Aug 19 2002 at 4:20 PM Rating: Decent
1) Would it be possible for a 25 druid and 25 enchanter to group up to kill the low end (yellow) cougars?

2) Would an Enchanter's Tashan help enough to allow the druid's spells to hit?

3) If this is not a viable possibility, would it be doable with a 26th SK or a 20th Paladin added to the group?

Thanks! I'm eager to hunt Velious critters, but I know I may have to wait a couple more levels, though I do want to try!
RE: Couple questions...
# May 21 2003 at 2:49 PM Rating: Default
I played with these for a few hours with a 25 shammy / 25 shadowknight and had few problems in Iceclad. Some would resist slow/darkness, so it took longer to med up afterwards.

Basic tips:

- Pay a druid to port you to IC and then succor to the docks
- Bind at the docks
- Do NOT hunt at the docks, or near the docks
- Pull your mobs to the SE side of the gnome igloos
- If you get 2+, either run to an isolated edge of the isle and die, or try to run far enough from your pull so that you can sit and camp (you may need a combination of SoW, Levitate, snare/darkness and/or fear in order to do this)
RE: Couple questions...
# Nov 12 2002 at 5:17 PM Rating: Decent
It should be possible. I was killing SGs in Oasis at level 30 with a 30 druid partner.

Just Have the chanter pull with tash and kite them around.
Then the druid snares it and kites it around, then the enchanter fears it, Then you both DoT and Nuke, refearing as needed.

Needless to say, you should have SoW on lol.

Solo them cons yellow cougars in Iceclad, wait till FM and have pet stay near igloos with gnomes. Get a sow and pull a 'yellow' snow cougar to the pet, pull one only with your slow spell or tainted breath if your skill is pass 80, if you get more - run far away and camp normal.- And come back and solo again. My pet does good. Not letting mana bar drop below 40m just keep reviving pet at 30%.
Snow cougars cons Amiable to me. White cons hit just as hard as yellow so go for the 2/3 blue exp. Cougar claw earings? been fighting them two days nothing but non stackable pelts and fang.

I'm a 33 Pally and I can solo IO Snow Cougars with my Mithril 2HS and around 1100HP, buffed.

They're "con blue threatening" to me.

It's a close fight, however, and I'm usually stuck medding and healing for five minutes after each kill.

Annoying
# Jun 30 2002 at 2:04 AM Rating: Default
I took the cougar to the end of the dock. Big mistake. When low on health it jumps in the water.
Took a while for me to catch up and kill it but I wasn't about to let it come back and attack me later. Most annoying thing was chasing it in water. With a 70 swim skill I still coulfn't manuever to hit it and took me an extra 5 minutes to cathc it. It swims fast and right when I thought I was leading it to the shore it turns around (without being hit) and ******* swam back out. At least I scored an earing on the one before it.

Pull them one at a time (as described in other posts, very easy to do) and your group of 4 will have no problem with them. As a level 34 Barb Warrior with only very slight twinkage (mix of crusty/crafted armor and using a BABS 2HS) I could solo these. Not a problem when I'm at full health, but I've even tried some at 1/2 health and survived. With 4 you shouldn't experience any problems. With just 2 you may have a little harder time, but the BL's pet will be a big help.
Cougars

I solo'd these for most of lvl 36 mainly looking for the earrings. At lvl 37, they give maybe 1/3 a blue per kill.

What I did notice was that the frequency of finding an earring has lessened substantially then when Velious was first introduced. I killed maybe 50 of these with no luck so far this time around. I found plenty of skins and bloodstained fangs but have had little luck so far with the earrings.

I found the best place to solo them was pulling to the docks. Most roam just west of the docks so its easy to pull one (or two) at a time rather then getting too many adds. As mentioned the gnomes will not help so if you get in trouble its very difficult to escape.

Since a few patches ago, cougars never seem to aggro to druids or rangers no matter how many are killed.

It is possible but I wouldn't recommend hunting these until 43. The xp flow slows greatly, when I was 42 a majority of them were green adn I wasn't going to fear kite light blues for countless hours. Around level 40 go to the Dreadlands for kick-butt xp.

I wanted to give some tips for any druids coming to IceClad to kite these fearsome kitties. First of all, I am a very average level 30 druid (140 wis).

The pirate camp is safe to me at least. I use this for my place to med and kite through. They will not ever kill the cougars which I believe can be good and bad. (Bad being they won't help if you need it)

So be sure you have a bind here first. If you ever come across any danger, you have absolutly no where to find a safe spot (zone or guards).

Take a few minutes and learn the kitties. They roam a tight circle straight out from the Pirate camp. You can safely roam amongst them to do this. The safe kite zone is a straight line from the pirate camp to the docks. I've never seen anything roam out of place.

When pulling, pull straight back to the pirate camp. Make sure have the patience to wait for the right pull. Any adds at level 30 and you will be toast. So you might have to wait a minute or two at most for a single pull.

Once I find a cougar that can be easily pulled without aggro, I cast Creeping Crud first. This helps get them out of the roaming circle as quickly as possible. I run straight back to the pirates, get a safe distance, and slow them up. These things are quite the resisters so dont feel mad if they resist you a few times, its normal. Once slowed, I start kiting between the docks and the pirate camp. They seem to resist Immolate alot, so I try and only cast this once in a fight. Once they resist my first Immolate, I try and not cast it again as I will be oom quicker and having to take extra time to regain it. Creeping Crud sticks about 19 out of 20 times for me, so I use this more than Immolate, it costs less mana too. So keep kiting in the safe area and they will usually turn and stop attacking during the 6th DoT, which always takes up all my mana.

And in addition, don't root these! They resist and break it way too much and you will running around a lot longer than if you hadn't.

Just my advise. Good Luck!

It is true that you only get 1 language pt per hour and also true that it is reset after zoning. Our work around. Go to zone edge, teach each other 1 pt then zone, teach another point and zone back. Rinse and repeat. Doing this you can max out your skill very quickly.
Hope this helps.

Yes a 41 warrior could solo these, in iceclad ocean, not sure about in EW. Me (32bard) and two warriors (36 and 35) camped thses guys for a while with only one death, me because we pulled too many and my mez didnt quite work out so well.
Other than that this was an easy camp and we had no problems at all. On the matter of rarity of the earrings, we killed about 50 and saw 1 but i think that was bad luck as I've known people to get 3 or 4 in the same amount of kills. So i hope this helps some.

My 33 SK soloes these with a pet and fear kiting. As has been said already, watch the adds and do not get impatient on healing up. The times I have died were when I got impatient and either made a bad decision on running in too far to pull and getting an add or taking one on too early in the healing process. A missed FD is a quick death with two hitting you. If you're an SK and get two on you, FD immediately unless you have buffed HP in the 1.5K range. I'm in a few dozen and no earring yet.
