These are indeed Snow Cougars, not leopards. I tried to click the "report correction" button but it didn't link.

Nevertheless, the exp from these guys rock. I've been hunting with a 36 Warrior tank or a 37 Ranger for a tank and the exp is incredible. I guess you sacrifice the loot for the experience.
Loot

For lev 30+ loot is realy bad...maybe they do on rare occasions drop an earring but after 3 nights of hunting them I have not seen any...you could make better loot hunting gobbies in Misty Thicket

I hunted cougars last night in a real good group and had seen a total of about 10-11 earrings drop. These things are common.

Verant has nerfed the drop rate of the cougar claw earrings again. They are now worth 4kpp! It's amazing what people will pay for some loot.

oh ya, btw, I do not have 2 of these earrings in my backpack waiting to be sold in the EC tunnel =)

I saw them being sold for 750 plat today... Either the guy selling didn't know the true value, or you are running the price up ;) (1/11/01)

hes tryin to run the price up... hell no these things aren't worth more than 1kpp.

And even if they did change the price no one wants to buy 'em... Druzzil Ro's economy is so screwed up...

Heh I also got a pair of cougar claw earrings, and I'm willing to sell for a lot less than 4kpp...

Its just a server thing, still going for 1k on the Rathe.

4kpp? hehe you're a joke! there are other earrings out there that has better stats that are sold far less than 2kpp. In Bertoxxulous, the earrings are sold for around 450pp - 600pp. Some players just gives them away to newbies. If you sell it for 4kpp in Bertoxxulous server, you'll just be a laughing stock.
Now 400pp or less

Saw as low as 250pp on a green server, just too many of these earrings and ones with simillar stats

I just want to comment that the cats found in Velious are called snow COUGARS...not leopards. That is all. :-)
Just a warning

If you are around level 30-34 and you are out and about near Vellious, be warned that they are almost invisible because of the snow...they are not totally invis, but they do blend in well with that background. So if you are doing a corpse run keep a SHARP eye out for them :)

Good hunting

Non-Humans have a little less trouble

Characters that are not one of the human races (Human, Erudite, or Barbarian) have a bit easier time spotting the snow leopards (and other critters that blend into their environments) courtesy of their enhanced vision. Oddly enough, I find that the Ultravision of Dark Elves is a little LESS effective than Infravision at spotting things that blend into the surroundings (as opposed to where it's just hard to see in the dark places, then UV kicks butt).

At night, when the special vision kicks in, Infravision will make MOBs appear a little reddish (representing their body heat, of course), making them stand out more against the terrain (which is sometimes hard to see with IV, esp. in dark zones. I scouted the first few islands in Iceclad with my Wood Elf Bard (didn't fight anything, he's only Lv7, heh) and didn't have any trouble spotting the leopards, even when they stood still. Just looked for the little red blobs, and there they were.

I'm a Barabarian and have absolutely no problem seeing them, you either need to adjust Gamma, or get a Greater Lightstone.

Since You're a barbarian you probably can't see far enough at night to notice whether they blend or not. hehe Obviously if the kitty is within GLS range there won't be a problem

The level on this is wrong. I have a 32 druid and every cougar is blue. My guess is 30 is the highest level.

The snow cougars that hang around the Great Divide zone entrance in Eastern Wastes seem a bit higher in level. Only have seen ones that /con green to my shaman at 44 in Iceclad and other areas of Eastern Wastes, but the ones ther by the GD zone are sometimes blue. They seem substantially meaner (hearder to kill) too

Unfortunately, creatures that exist in multiple zones have only 1 entry. The snow cougars in the Eastern Wastes do go up into the mid 30s. Illia uses 1 entry to cover both, making it necessary for the level range to represent what all the snow cougars in all the zones can be.

However this one does not even mention eastern wastes in the description on iceclad, so I was thinking the same thing as the first post

It says in the text that the ones in the wastes can be higher then the ones in iceclad.
