Yes a 31 warrior can fight here, though i reccomend a partner til 33 or so. We had 2 rings drop off about 60 cougars, so they r not common but not too rare either. I've heard rumors of other items dropping off these too.

dumb cats CAN be hard to kill!! they were blue to my 30 mage and even one just ate up my pet before we could barely damage it. and theres lots of cats that will add - be careful.

Sure you can, I'm a high elf pally of all types aand I was able to solo one at lvl 31 with a soulfire. You'll get beat up pretty bad at that lvl, but at 34 you should be just fine, I'm having a blaast doing at 32 as long as I know there are some people around to help out in case I get hurt pretty bad, the gnome huts make a pretty good base statio for hunting these guys.

Well I found out for myself. I ensnared them no problem and got them into a tight group taking only 3 hits. I went OOM and killed 2 of em the other 2 were so close to dying so i decided to meelee them. That wasnt very smart and those 2 hit me so fast i went from 400 hp to 0 in like 5 seconds. Im waiting till 35 or 36 before trying again and headin back to my retared buddies the ulthorks (from which ive gotten 12 pairs of gloves, 9 bracers, and 2 pairs of boots) none of the good stuff yet. As for the earrings from the cougars, i soloed these from 31-33 and got 7 earrings and really good exp.

wisdom isn't as important as skill in kiting but yes you most likely could with skill. BTW wisdom over 200 is worth jack squat work on your resistances.
Two comments
# Jun 10 2001 at 2:12 AM Rating: Excellent
Ok, two comments here. 1) with my lv 31 warrior I was able to solo an even con and ended up with just a smidge over 50% life left, and I got about a blue bubble and a HQ pelt off it. Not bad considering I had been killing Reskin and Tolus at 30 and only getting about 1/4 blue each..
2) I brought my lv 30 shaman over and was grouped with a 30 druid and 30 chanter, and we had a cougar assembly line going. Druid ran out and started what seemed like a quad kite, he'd snare up 4 cats and run them past us, where the chanter AOE mezzed. I then enstilled each and the druid popped Immolate and Creeping Crud, after which I followed with Infectious Cloud and Envenomed Breath. Sit and med, wait for dot or enstill to break, or kitty to fall down. if cat was real low on hp when Enstill let go, knock it on the head with a rock, if not, reroot and repeat, or slap it with a nuke and THEN knock it on the head. Each kill got us about 1/4 to 1/3 blue bubble, 4 kills at a time seemed to be our safe pace, and down time was NIL between regen and cannibalize and crack and yadda yadda yadda. So, if you are a shaman or a druid or a chanter, and have 2 friends of the other 2 classes, this works. BTW, 6 earrings... :)
Easy Kills for good exp
# Jun 07 2001 at 4:01 AM Rating: Decent
I went to help a guildmate today, thought i may get a couple of the ear rings. These are real easy kills soloing, I may lose one bubb hp per cougar, and get half a blue bubb exp for the kill. Didn't see one ring drop yet, will be back at it tomorrow. They do drop alot of LQ snow cougar pelts though.

Just adding a little more. I spent all of lvl 38 soloing these cougars. As an SK if your like me and use HT as much as possible, pull 2 of these at once. Hit the first one with HT and kill it quick, then just do the other as normal. I got one earring and one bloodstained fang for my entire efforts. Heard that the last patch or so might have slowed the drops on the earrings. Good luck all, I dinged today, am heading back to OT to get to 40 fast.
#Anonymous, Posted: Jun 06 2001 at 4:54 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) These things are so easy to solo as a bard i'm lvl 34 and just throw chains on one fear it then beat it up with a dot and my melee while twisting fear and chains over and over once it starts to get to water i back up let fear break and it comes back rinse wash and repeat =P almost a entire blue bubble each time i smack a kitty kat down *gee i hope i won't get bad faction with kerrans*
No help from pirates
# Jun 05 2001 at 11:58 AM Rating: Default
Just watch it when resting at the igloos, some people that take on one too many of these cats run to the camp not realizing the pirates don't help kill the cats. I was resting in the camp after a fight and got trained with 3 of these cats. Luckily my Feign Death worked or I'd have been history. So what good are the sentries? Now I make sure Hide is working before I rest or med at the igloos.

I just got to cougars on cazic thule server and they con blue to me at 34 and nearly kicked my butt. As a 34 human tank <who nearly died?> i found biggest trouble was spotting where the buggers go when badly injured, they seemed to walk off docks and vanished from sight ; only recived 1 blue bub for near death experiance and a HQ pelt that no-one will buy. goodluck withthem anyhow
Bloodstained Fang
# May 11 2001 at 4:12 AM Rating: Default
The cougars in Iceclad also drop a Bloodstained Fang, Magic Lore 9/32 piercer for melee only, wgt 1.0 Sells for around 100pp from what I've heard, but very rare, one night I kited maybe 60 cougars and only saw one drop.

Does anyone know what the use of the Snow cougar hides? Is there a tailoring receipe out there someone I don't know about?

Thanks.

# May 30 2001 at 11:12 AM Rating: Default
One type ( medium i think ) is used for the cougarskin mask and boot quests. The HQ type is needed in the first part of the Ring wuaest in EW and possibly in wood elf cultural tailoring. No idea as for the LQ stuff though. probably junk.....
Think I Can Do It At 24?
# Apr 10 2001 at 12:18 PM Rating: Default
I'm a 24 bard, and looking for someplace other than the freakin Lake, SK, and FM to hunt, and am thinking about heading out to Velious. My question is: If I stick near the pirate camp and hunt in a group, think I could handle cougars?

RE: Think I Can Do It At 24?

If you get this Try going to Mistmoore before going to velious a BArd of the 24 lvl may be too low so expect to die if your planning on going to velious. Recently i have hunted in Mistmoore and gained 4 lvls in 2 days which in my opinion is great since i cant get on much. So try Mistmoore then go to velious at least lvl 28.

These have INSANE Magic Resists!!!! IN FREAKING SANE!!!

I was in Iceclad just poking around with my lvl 32 Druid and bound myself at the Gnome Camp. I thought I would try a few mobs. Well I picked out a nice blue Cougar and snared him. I pulled it to the waters edge to avoid agro and then started to nuke with fire based Combust. Well EVERY singe spell was resisted. I tried to DoT with Creeping Crud, resisted. Immolate, resisted. Lightning, resisted. WTF?!?!?! So I ran far enough ahead and port to Ring of Misty Thicket.

Well I med up and gate back since I'm bound at the Gnome camp, I pick out another Cougar and try my hand at it again. This time I can't even get snare to stick, I can't root it, NOTHING. RESISTED, RESISTED, RESISTED, RESISTED, RESISTED, and finally the fecker killed me. It was running at near SoW speed.

I tried this on 5...FIVE different Cougars and it was all the same. There was no Ubb3R-dR0oiD around super-buffing the mobs, nothing. These things are just insane in the MR department. I'm not sure WHAT Verant did to these things but they are un-soloable now to any caster. These are pure melee only.

WFT is a SNOW COUGAR doing completely resistant to FIRE??? I can understand resistant to COLD...

# May 12 2001 at 11:57 PM Rating: Decent
you must've had a terrible night, cause as a 31 necro the only thing they resisted was fear, and even then they were easy to solo, just stick a couple of dots on em and sic your pet, then spirt tap or Shock of poison and melee until dead, very easy xp, and low risk in an open area
RE: These have INSANE Magic Resists!!!! IN FREAKING SANE!!!

I went to kill these at lvl 31. They did resist my immolate most of the time and also a good bit with my combust. My crud stuck every time, not one resist. My ensnare usually stuck without much trouble. Panic/terrorize animal worked really well. I did not try lightning but I've heard of lots of druids quad-kiting these things.

Hate to burst your bubble but i think you had a bad night or are a bit low.

Myself a druid and cleric friends were killing cougars waiting on Garou to spawn.

Cleric is 33 and druid is 41, not one of their spells was resisted to my knowledge apart from maybe one or two snares. Thye were using fire, magic, poison and disease spells.

My ykesha proc was resisted only once and when i played about with my velium ice pick its ice based DD proc was never resisted.

So they are definitely not fully MR, CR, FR, DR or PR ;)

Not to metion the fact that even at 30, they're still pathetic at soloing, unless your from some wussy blubie server uberguild who's gotten you soulfire at level 10 and full DW armor at 20.
the best lvl 29 creature to hunt !
# Feb 28 2001 at 11:31 AM Rating: Default
These provide the best exp i have found as a lvl 29 druid. The fear animal spell makes it possible to solo 2 of these at the same time...even if they con yellow ! and if you even need a lil helpthey make great pets, if you can keep one charmed long enough you can easily solo 4 of these at the same time, and as a Halfling druid the exp is really quick you can get to 34 in just 4 hours of game play !
#Anonymous, Posted: May 27 2001 at 11:41 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Ooooo...you killed a yellow con. don't you feel special now, welcome to the life of a necro. Cons red, kill it, don't even lose half your mana. Why don't you dumb dr00ds quit trying to be wannabe necros and join the real soloers. But, you say, I can quad kite things. Oh sure, if you consider running around for 2 hours "good xp". whatever
RE: necro vs reds
# Jun 09 2001 at 6:42 PM Rating: Default
In a word... Bulls**t! I know from experience that if you want to kite a red at 30, you use a hell of a lot more mana than half unless you are a total uber twink... in which case you suck anyway.

And as far as quad-kiting is concerned.. take a trip to timerous ocean, and kite the spirocs. (if you're high enough) You will see first hand that you may get two or three kites in the same time a druid will be quad-kiting once. Do the math if you're able. Your 2 or 3 kites to their 4 kills all at once.

This tactic is almost full proof with the exception of the occasional cougar that wants to resist everything. ive been doing this all night and im doing as i type. 1st set your pet to guard a spot and go hunting (keep pet buffed up) pull a cougar with Tagars so he cant hit your pet as fast. 2nd run towards your pet and when in range sick your pet on him. 3rd -- ENSTILL or he will come after you. 4th check pets health by hitting F1 twice -- if at half heal him. 5th apply Scorge and Envenomed breath. (you might want to throw in a malisment inbetween 3 and 5) 6th target your pet and sit -- keep an eye on his health. if the cougar starts getting the better of him toss him a heal. -- its fairly easy and common sense but it helps to see ideas sometimes. I hope it is as good to you as it is to me -- and BTW i suggest making a pet that cons blue cuz they will tear him up pretty bad and a greeny wont last. CLARITY helps with down time of course. Thats all i have and this works for a multitude of MoBs -- GL to ya!

Quading these cougars is the easiest experience you will make, these are excellent quading Mobs because they fall right into line and will stay together until the end. Give it a try at level 34.

the ones in iceclad seem to hit for 63-65 and dont seem fast as you would expect... easily got ahead with sow but that coulc be from all the trees.
RE: stats? hp, hits for, resistances?
# Jan 18 2001 at 7:28 PM Rating: Default
they hit from the range of MISS (they seem to miss me alot, and my AC is only 511:) to around 70 MAX. They usually double attack or triple... rarely hit for a full four hits. They have like no resistance to Fire based spells. Snare and Ensnare can have a tendency to get resisted every so often (sometimes a cougar will resist Snare a bunch... but that must be because I have semi-low, WIS only 176).

Pretty slow, I can out run one backwards w/ SoW.
