I soloed him.

I tried soloing him as a 49 shaman. I pulled him and only one of the other wolves followed. When I gated, black dire remained where I pulled him and the other wolf pathed back. Malo and root land fine, but I gave up after deciding he was more or less immune to poison/disease.

I tried again at 54. Solo pulled him this time. Despite being light blue, he's still immune to disease. I hit him with Turgur's insects, and let my hasted pet kill him. After a few heals, I have my pelt.

After you kill the Advisor in Castle, Dire does not come hunt you. He spawns outside. Go out the Entry Hall door and go right, he's a small jump down. Location +90, -166, -222. Killed him with 85 Shammy, his 4 guards did not aggro with him.
did not spawn

46 Shaman ready for this next step. From the posts, I see where Black Dire is now in Lesser Faydark, rather than Mistmore.

I am preparing for this next step and trying to decide who and how many friends to take with me. One question I have is: does Black Dire still have his four wolf guardians with him? will I have to kill them first? Or did they disappear (maybe still in mistmoore)?

Trying to figure out if a 46 Shaman, 45 Mage and a 46 Beastlord can kill him, without a corpse run. Thanks.

Shortly after the above post, Black Dire returned to his home in Mistmore. I did go there at level 52, if I recall correctly, with friends: lvl 52 berserker, lvl 52 mage and lvl 58 necro and we were fine.

And it was so rewarding to have a new pair of shoes! Smiley: wink

If you kill "an advisor"
http://eqbeastiary.allakhazam.com/search.shtml?id=5275
and upon his death he will summon "black dire" to the zone to hunt you down. Hunt near loc +215 and +319 cause "an advisor" pops right next to the campfire and not in the tents. If either the butler or maid pop keep thier fangs and sell em in bazaar cause rangers would like to have a set. I sure wish I had a pair...stupid camp.

This is easily soloed by a 56 druid. He will root but breaks, dot and use scoraie and he'll drop in less than a minute. Does not hit for much damage.

52 Shaman here. Found him in Lfay very near the loc listed by Kassin, (thanks for the info :) )

Coned DB to me and I was nearly able to solo him, (had him down to 39% health), but was losing slowly. Sent out a mayday to my guild and a 46 bard showed up and the dreaded black dire was quickly killed.

I have the boots and now it is off to CoM to pay a visit to Ghiosk.

OK, I got the dire to spawn today. You need to kill the advisor, which is moved to one of the orc camps in Lfay, at loc 275, 392.

Then run over towards the LDoN entrances, and the Dire spawns at loc 467, 2346. Hope this helps everyone

Excellent information. 53 pally and 53 shaman followed your advice and it worked like a charm. We dropped him in about a minute.
Where now?
# Jan 28 2005 at 12:39 PM Rating: Decent
With the changes to Mistmoore - anyone find out where the Black Dire spawns at now?

Is it like when they revamped Cazic Thule - and they put all the named lizards, etc out side the city in Ferrott?

Fixed as of Dec 29 (probably earlier but I have been busy). The shadowed man who is on Temple of Sol Ro faction is also back. (Dire solo'd by a 63 wizzy, Dire had about 9.5k hit points) and I have a happy alt shammy.
Got him today
# Dec 24 2004 at 3:58 AM Rating: Decent
Killed him today and got my pelt with no problems, just went in and got the advisor, came back out to where the Dire spawned and he was there, took him down quite easily with me (62 shammy) and a 51 warrior.

Spawn?
# Dec 18 2004 at 4:46 AM Rating: Decent
MM is severely bugged after the last patch, lots of mobs are warping. Also I'm having trouble getting this to spawn. I've tried killing the advisor 4 times, then killed all mobs in the castle and vicinity a few times. Also, I've tried both leaving the blood wolves up and killing the blood wolves, not sure if that might effect spawn. Anyway, hours of camping now and no luck.

[EDIT] Spawning now as of January 11th. Others have had him spawning earlier.

I agree. I am on the Veeshan server and this mob is no longer spawning. The advisor was clearly this mob's placeholder, and no longer triggers Black Dire since I have killed him 3 or 4 times. I too have cleared the blood wolves and left them up.

Once again, Sony proves they can't QA their way out of a paper bag. I also noticed that the paladin level 49 quest spell has a ground spawn in this zone. I haven't seen it in days either. I suspect that the revamp on Stormhammer is to blame.

Took him down with 48 Shaman, 49 Warrior, and me 54 SK. After killing the advisor, we cleared the path to Black Dire. As suggested, tried killing the blood wolves first. They are LB at 54 and didn't add, but Black Dire is DB so the pull resulted in one blood wolf and Black dire (didn't read down far enough to see Avenstar's post). The shaman got his pet on the blood wolf immediately, dooming darkness and invoke fear landed on Black Dire the first try. Hit him with HT, Spear of Plague twice. It took three fears to kill him because two wore off early, the fight lasted about 2 minutes total. Between fears, the warrior and I took about 500 total damage, no time for him to HT or it was resisted.. Didn't notice which. An easy fear kite kill.
Did this tonight
# Sep 19 2004 at 4:30 AM Rating: Decent
I did this tonight in a group with me (Lvl 54 Shammy), my husband (Lvl 54 Ranger) and my brother (Lvl 56 Enchanter). I cast HoS on everyone and my bro cast his Rune on us just to be safe. Hailed the Dire and told hime "I will Not join you" and he attacked us. Piece of cake after I slowed him and crippled him. Although the four blood wolves that surrounded him came in on the fight too and killed my hubby ... =( So word of advice... kill the blood wolves first.
Suggestion for pulling Black Dire
# Sep 14 2004 at 4:07 PM Rating: Decent
Killed him yesterday me (65 shammy) and a 47 shammy. We killed the gargoyles and the named then I pulled Black dire with slow I let pet tank and didnt have to heal him once. easy fight

did him for my shammy with lvl 65 ranger. wasn't as quick as SK but got the job done in under a minute
L65 SK
# Jul 19 2004 at 2:09 AM Rating: Decent
L65 SK can kill this mob in like 5 seconds flat with a 10K Harmtouch. That is how I got my pelt - A L65 SK was in the zone when I killed Advisor and I asked him to help me.

While I was explaining that Dire could be single pulled and what damage he does etc etc he told me it was already dead.

Took about 5 seconds for him to kill it. Respect.

PS. Killing the Advisor and surrounding mobs was not a problem for me at L52.

Resisted the HT with 270Mr, epic shield took most other dmg.

Me, a 56 shm, 2 bst, one 56 the other was 65. Was really easy, but since the bst could have easily whoop him solo it was no contest. I didint slow him, he lasted 2min if that. HT for 550 i think on pet and nobody went under 92pct health. I didint see any fear action or fear resist action goin on. A few Dark elf adds and like 2 of his 4 bloodwolves jumped in some how. 65 pulled him, all pets on. that pretty much it. And the advisor made him spawn like that! hardest part was reading my dumb map. Grats to me on my new boots! GL to anyone who is goin for this punk.

Just duoed him, 56 BST and 60 RNG.

Single pulled his guards, whacked 'em, and then roasted him. Hits pretty quickly, for up to 200ish, but he's a wuss once ya get him slowed.

Start to finish maybe 5 minutes to do the ol' dog in.
