Does anybody talk about the quest he's for as opposed to killing him? Does anyone know where this stanos guy pops anywho?
Stanos is the Rogue guild leader in Highhold Pass. He can only be summoned by someone with very high faction in the Rogues guild (Usually the Rogue doing their epic).

i don't know if his ac sucks or whqat but i got 2 250+ BSis at 52 witha 12 dam Pircer, he was still hard but his ac sucks
He's an old world MOB. Of course his AC will be lower than what you would be used to in Kunark & Velious. He's still arguably the hardest old world MOB in the game (closely followed by Stanos, Vox, and Nagafen).

As epics were added with Kunark, I would expect him to be of a par with Kunark creatures, even though he is to be found in the 'Old World'
This woulda been June 22, 02 and on Xegony. We took General for a couple Rogues last week, and I noticed something I couldn't remember from the last time I fought him. Since when did he hit a 500 dd (We think Lifetap) Proc? He laid a beating on us with that thing. "Your soul has been consumed" was the casting message I believe. Like the topic says, is that new or am I on crack? He was tough before, now he hits hard and fast and procs a big damage spell...
BTW, for those of you that care we did manage to take him down twice (3rd and 4th tries) for the two Rogues that were ready.

Took him out 6 times on Aug. 5th. He hit me for 200, 300ish and had that 500 point lifetap ("You feel as though your soul is being consumed").
All of that damage (around 1k) happened in less than one second.
Anyway, yeah, he's proccing that lifetap now. Our main tank was getting a 5 second Cheal rotation and we had no problems. I'd say the General is dealing out about 6k every 10 seconds now (on fully buffed tanks)

Well, my pitiful lvl 36 enchanter dropped by in Kith after receiving word of a raid there. We spent mebe 2 hours killing off the dark elfs (I learned several things there alone, such as not sit down or cast Tash before the mt can hit once heh). However, the last DE we pulled also brought the General. We had a pally on horse kite the Gen around for a bit while the raid group of 30 ppl no specific guild take the dark elves out, average lvl 55ish, with only a handful of 60's. This is the second time i was around to watch this guy get taken, the first at lvl 18 or so. Basically, what you NEED to know is this:
the guy has a damage shield. Get a chanter to drop it.
The guy hits hard and fast. Get the same chanter to slow/str debuff if he's not already dead.
It helps to have a lvl 60 ogre war as main tank, they are beasts and can take the hits.
I've seen him get killed 3 for 3, each time i think he dropped the quill. Twice, I saw the SK shield. Not bad IMHO but i'm just a newb.
BTW, SPIFFGIRL ROCKS! Pallies can kite if they are on horseback ;) Spiff, if you're reading this, you're my hero =)

We aren't all 60, and we aren't in skyshrine or better. Most are in thurg quested or equivalent. Sixteen players: 4 clerics lvl 60epic, 57, 56, 53, 1 necro lvl 60epic, 3 warriors lvl 60, 53, 52, 2 shamans lvl 60epic, 54, 2 mages lvl 60epic, 55, 3 monks lvl 60epic, 57epic, 55, 1 rogue lvl 55.
Do not CH until MT has established good agro :) Chain Divine Lights on MT instead for at least the first 30seconds.
BTW... we killed him :) After we killed him that time we went up the path to help another guild. We killed him back to back 3 more times.

I was just about to zone from Riverdale to West Commons when I thought I would see who was in the zone there was 12 lvl 60's and many high lvl 50's so i thought I would stick around to see what was happening. Sure enough they attacked this guy well he killed 5 of them in about 30secs or so the rest fled I don't know what he was hitting but he must have been hard and fast. I would have thought so many high levels would have killed him easy. Obviously not a well planned attack I will not embarrass the 2 guilds envolved but planning and preparation is essential for a guy like this.

This guy is a beast! that pretty much sums it up, he has alot of haste and hits hard as hell. one thing i find weird is the weapons he uses, an Elegant Darkwood Katana, and a piercer (forgot what its called). but the Katana is a 2hs and he still dual weilds! whats up with that. well anyway, tactics for him....
get a high lvl tank (55-60 works well) make sure he has agro before anyone casts or hits him (same goes for heals) dispell him right after tank has agro, and after that just have everyone do as much damage as possible.

I was in a guild 45+ last year and we decided to help a rouge with his epic ...
So , we gathered up 6groups of 45+ and everyone was GGed to WC. We ran to kithicor. We killed The generals guards , i won the argent defender and lost the ishva robe and was 56 wizzy =P. So, we slayed his guards and we rested for 5 minutes and we went to the general.
We all started fighting. He was hitting in the mid 200s my god and he uses double attack and duel weild!!!!!! after about he killed 4groups he was chasing me. He was slashing me like crazy for mid 200s.

I am as of this post only in my mid forties and as such have never been a part of a real raid of any sort...Any way I was off to HPK one day as a lvl 22 war...when I zoned in there was constant /shout about a fight I wandered off the wall abit and then started to get brave looking for this fight...anyway I make my way to near HPK and was amazed at all these people in one solid mass and I couldn't even see what they were hitting...I stood and watched(and kepy quiet didn't want to upset anyone)there were a few other peeps there around my level watching and a few jumped in...I personally wouldn't do it as it can be a pain if you jump right in front of the MT that a cleric is targeting or whatever..anyhow a lvl 32 monk ended up somehow hitting him and his hp were obviously low enough that the monk got shouted at by his corpse...lol it was great the raiding guild were cheering for the 32monk that had slain the general..anyway I hung around and a few of them explained what they were doing(they were getting prepared to do it again)it was a fun day on EQ for me and one of my first exp with the higher level game and it made me very excited to keep playing...I wish I remebered the guild name but anyway thanks to all those cool high level people that took the time to explain what they were doing to some out of it noob one of my fondest memories playing this game)

I got the edge of the nightwalker just a few days ago. Its a sweet wep. With the edge(dmg14 dly25 str8 dex8 agi8)in offhand, and frostbringer(dmg12 dly22 with 60pt dd) in main, I can do very high dmg. I also have a sash of dragonborn which is 26% haste so I have fast AND high dmg. I can easily critical hit for high 90's to low 100's. For those tanks that are having trouble gettin their epic, this edge isnt much worse than the warrior epic.

How do you get this guy to spawn? Where can you find Stanos to loot his head? I suppose this would be hard with a non agnostic half-elf bard, but I do have the Mask of Deception. Wonder if while wearing the illusion, I can complete this quest?

Stanos can be found in HPH, he has to be spawned by a rogue with excellent faction with the smugglers. (Look for one with his epic)
Stanos is also HARDER THAN VGHERA. He hits in the 400s and quads regularly. No one who hasn't got uber guild access is gonna get that mask.

Fighting this guy for my first time tonight for guild rogue. A couple ideas I havent tried, but come to mind:
Back when I was soloing gnolls in SK, I would hand them a torch and an orc pick (wolfform is not kos to the gnolls). They weild the items given to them, and any FS they wielded would slip back into thier inventory. Then, when pulled they hit for much less dmg than they would if they were hitting with a real weapon. Mobs will still hit for a certain minimum dmg and speed, but will lose any benifits recieved from weapons.
I suggest having a druid harmony (unresisable NON-agro), and/or a rogue sneak up and hand him such items. It's worth a shot.

that tactic is no longer usable since the patch that only allows items to be given to pets only, npc's will just hand them back saying they have no need of it.
Is their a charm line high enough to work on him? Is he charmable? just a few questions and I am sure one of them will be NO, but if they were both YES, it would help this encounter be MUCH eiseyer

The Edge of the Night walker isnt all that great....i mean its a sweet sword but you can just get a centi-longsword with about the same stats for less than 1k....and the katana isnat good either! the weight is kool but its stats are like wtf? 21 attack 40 delay is just better then a BABS which sells for like ULTRA cheep on my server i think this guy should have better loot because of the awsome power he hits you with :/ im not trying to say i wouldnt like to have these weapons im jsut saying he should have better (that he CANT equip during battle :) hehe ]

Well, it's true they're not exactly the BEST weapons around...but at least he actually drops something besides the quest piece. Fights like Xenovorash, who is about as strong as V'Ghera i think, only give up his fangs for the gloves=P

I ran up and kept hitting the loot button till ig ot thru and looted the ashenbone shiled which was no drop. they cursed at me and i told them to f themselves and they said someting about a blacklist then i camped. So in turn make sure you loot your mobs quickly or someone like em will take the loot

The corpse of the general lay before me. A gnome was standing there beside him, "He has a no drop shield, and none of us want it. Loot it quick before it decays!"
I hadnt even heard of the shield till that day, but am now the proud wearer of this nice item. It would be nice if it had the ribbed look like the icon, instead of looking like a cracked darkwood shield, but still a fine shield.

Qaundar, perhaps? I saw this on Erollisi Marr's MB (being the server I play on), and if its not him, then there's TWO of these yahoo's running around. The timing on this post and the actual event posted on EMarr match up pretty well.
He's a ranger, apparently (Bah, why'd he have to be from MY class...), but the link here says it all. Kinda funny too, because he can't even use the shield he looted.

I thought of the same post on the EMarr boards when I read this thread. It must be the same player. He's a Ranger, which makes me want to slash my little Ranger wrists. Rangers can't even use this shield. Greed that turns into sheer stupidty. Say man, put your mom on and let her play your account. She'll probably do a better job.

Wow, that's rather cowardly of you to post anonymous when you're admitting to ninja looting an epic mob that some guild spent time killing. You didn't even post your server....I wonder if that's because you know what you did is horrible and don't wanna be banned from raids and guilds on your server......
I think members of that guild should follow you around and train you wherever you go...you are an awful inconsiderate person whom I hope I never encounter.

I found out the hard way if you fail to kill him, either regroup quickly for a second attack, or have someone 'attempt' to train him around. He will sit around for approximately 30 minutes and then he will despawn into an undead. Happened to me. Starting over now.

I heard there was a Kith raid and had to see just how bad this guy is. The first round the General won pretty quick. But the next four or so The raiding party had their act together. They would chain cast CH on the primary tank and that seemed to work very well. The tank still got his butt kicked but this gave the rest of the party a chance to inflict enough damage to over take V'Ghera. Its still takes a lot of high levels to acccomplish this but he is a bit easier than most gods.

I was passing through Kith last night omw way to High Keep. I checked zone to see what's shaking and their's like 34 people in zone, a bunch with tags on. I knew they were camping the General, never saw it before so I hung around to watch. I must say that they flattened this guy. Suffered only two deaths and he was duel weilding.

Hes not lying, hes not that hard if the guild has any raiding experience what so ever. he only does a max amount of 800 dmg and thats not that much. all you really need is mebbe 18 lvl 60's to take this guy out. Since hes an old world mob he also only has 32khp which really isnt that much nowadays either. Face it as more and more high end content comes out these epic mobs just become and seem easier and easier.

Not true at all. I've done several Generals and yes, more is merrier but you certainly don't need a million folks to accomplish it.
Case in point, the first time I went to Kithicor we took all comers effectively and started the first General with about 50 folks participating. The main tank was a 58th Warrior and we dropped him with no real troubles (two or three deaths due to casters sitting despite warnings).
By the sixth and last General we were down to 33 with an average level of about 55. We did think it was a little dicy (and warned the Rogue first) but went ahead and popped him with no deaths whatsoever. I think we had four level sixites in the mix at that time and a multiple of characters in the 52-55 range.
He can be done with fewer but I'd recommend not chancing things with this step in the epic. He does hit damn fast and he will bounce if you can't control aggro well. Simply start with the MT defensive (and *all* casters already on their feet) and spam short heals for 20 seconds or so. By spam I mean Shaman, Druids, Clerics and all chain-casting short heals with two-three Clerics breaking off into a CH cycle after the first round of heals. Then dogpile with the other melee (watching to stay at max range) and beat him down. Nuke at no sooner than 20% but feel free to debuff earlier, provided that the caster gets nearby so the MT can reaquire aggro if the General turns his head. More Generals are lost because he starts bouncing around than anything else. His ability to drop a non-defensive tank in a blink is on par with many far nastier MOBs. Luckily his HP are 32k or he'd be truely nasty indeed.

Guy was Ninja looted, on the BB server, 2 times when a raid killed him 4 times for rogue epic.
Some people are just complete jerks I'd say.
If you Ninja loot this guy, prepare not to be in the guild you are in and have your name dragged thru the mud.

i must say that is the coolest looking bp i have ever seen on eq!!!! i wonder if you can get it. because i know i would get my level 60 warrior and all my friends to raid this SoB and get that bp

if u really had a lvl 60 war and u decided to go kill the general with some of ur friends to get the bp he is wearing ur a big fat liar =P general DOES NOT drop a bp of any sort I killed im the other day with my guild he is VERY hard.....he droped the darkwood katana ashenbone shield cazic quill and generals pouch for me...needless to say i got my epic about 5 minutes after we killed the general and came back to kill the general a second time my friend who was also doing him turned in his box and general spawned with an Edge of the nightwalker he destroyed us this guy attacks fast as a **** and cannot be slowed our chanter tashed him before MA got aggro and he ping ponged around and killed everyone it was an awesome sight to see even though we all got wiped out all tanks were standin around in a circle around him and bodies were just droppin every second it was prolly the coolest thing i ever saw....well enough of that we had a cleric gate to WC and run back and rez stick us we got buffed and rdy and took the general out AFTER the MA got aggro i lost the roll on the edge but i did get my epic i had one hell of a day gettin the quill and all well gl with the general in future for all of u fellow rogues =P
