an escaped froglok

Monster
Screenshot

Uploaded July 24th, 2007

These can be quite rare and hard to find, but this elusive froglok has a trick. They need a froglok escort, which spawn most often between 8pm and 8am. The escorts will move from spawn point to spawn point which have the possibility of spawning a few mobs which are agro to them: a large mosquito, a skeleton, and a marsh leech.

There are a few placeholders which an escaped froglok can spawn from. You can tell which ones these are by how fast the placeholder moves, much faster than normal mobs. If there is an escort around, these placeholders have a chance to spawn an escaped froglok. It is not known if more escorts means a greater chance to spawn an escaped froglok.

Thought I would share my experience with this quest, perhaps it has been changed over the (many) years. Playing on a progression server now, and I'm hoping this information will be useful for others doing the same, especially considering the speculative, old, and bad information that seems to surround this quest.

Basically all of the prior information I read about this quest neglected the distinction between "a froglok escort" and "Froglok Escort".
"a froglok escort" seems to have nothing to do with this quest at all, it's the special one with caps that you're after. It seems Froglok Escort can spawn a few places in typical mob spawn locations. My two spawned right around +2575, +1402. After the Froglok Escort spawns, it stands completely still in place unless it needs to run from combat. Any hostile mob seems to aggro on the little guy when they wander by, skellies, large mosquitos, maneating plants, maybe some others. The interesting and important part is a little difficult to describe, but I'll give it a shot. It seems that somewhere out in the swamp there are a few spawns that are likely completely inactive until the Froglok Escort spawns. Once he spawns, you will some mobs come running from a specific direction towards his exact location. These spawns out in the swamp are what can spawn the escaped froglok slaves that you need. The issue is, the slaves have some placeholders. Skeletons, leeches, iksar marauder, and a small handful of other typical swamp creatures will all come rushing (full run speed) toward your Froglok Escort friend. What you need to do is protect the Froglok Escort, if he dies the whole "event" is over and you have to get another one to spawn. Kill everything that rushes towards him as quickly as you can, and eventually some of them will pop up as escaped slaves. I believe as long as Froglok Escort stays alive, these mobs will keep spawning and rushing after him.

TLDR: Kill stuff around +2575, +1402 until Froglok Escort (with caps) spawns, defend him from meanies and eventually escaped slaves will show up.

It worked for me. Froglok Escort spawned at 2532, 2357, -12 (NW part of the zone, near Cabilis zone) and didnt move at all, killed some iksar outcast and a few escape froglok spawned.

I agree 100% with the above post. Killed in the area mentioned (+2647, +1267) and at one time had 4 "a froglok escort" mobs up but I never saw any escaped frogloks. Then the Froglok Escort spawned, and I kept defending him, and saw 6 "an escaped froglok" mobs within 15 minutes. They run up to the Froglok Escort, then turn and walk away from him. Do the "a froglok escort" mobs have to be around to trigger the Froglok Escort? Who knows, but the Froglok Escort definitely triggers an event that spawns a LOT of escaped frogloks.

Happy hunting!

Confirming information is 100% accurate for Agnarr server during Kunark Expansion. Spawned during period of 8pm to 8am and has to be the special capitalized escort "Froglok Escort"

So "an escaped froglok" is not part of the Geozite Tool quest but "Froglok Escort" is?

8 to 8 Game Time Works, Still a Hastle
# Oct 27 2013 at 12:27 PM Rating: Decent
Can confirm that the 8pm to 8am works. Before that time period after an hour I had only spawned 1 "an escaped froglok". I took my Bard box to try and move around quickly and keep everything cleared that would kill the escorts. I also jumped back and forth between the 2nd island and the 3rd which turns into mainland. Around the 8pm time I had TONS of escorts popping up and it took me about an hour to get the rest of the escaped. Overall took about 2 hours to get all the shackles needed for the Warrior Pike quest seeing as I started at an off ingame time.

As stated with other posts about getting the Geozite Tool, I would just keep redoing it until I got the FoB task. Without a tracker this is going to be a major pita. Kudos to anyone who has done these quests at the appropriate level and without the aid of a tracker. Still can't believe the level of difficulty, but hey thats old school EQ I fell in love with.

How to spawn them

It is actually quite easy to spawn them. Protect the Froglok Escorts and that's all you have to do. Slay all the mobs around them, let only the Escorts live and eventually the Escaped Frogloks spawn. The more Escorts are up the more Escaped Frogloks will appear eventually. Within half an hour I was able to get 12 Escaped Frogloks that way.

escaped froglok
# Jan 13 2006 at 5:48 AM Rating: Decent
Spent several hours following various pieces of advice. I cleared out every froglok (except the scouts) and every other mob I could find on the "island" with the third section of old road.
Finally I found one by the fallen pillar. The other I found just as I was about to quit about two hours later stuck in the water between the island and the western land mass.

I feel sorry for the monks who need more than 2 of these.

finding this guy
# Oct 07 2005 at 4:44 PM Rating: Decent
I just got 4 of these in 15 minutes. It was before 9pm game time. Never saw the Froglok Escort. Just go south to the first island on the path only crossing water once and start killing everything in sight. They spawn in that area and to the west just across the water. If you see a mob running fast it is because they are chasing one of the escapees. Just chase after it and kill it before it kills the frog. Piece of cake.
Hunted these for 5 hours or so

First off, follow the path out of Cabilis south to the second island. Here is where I started the slaughter. :D You must keep all of the "a large mosquito" and "skeleton" cleared. They will KOS the "escaped froglok". I've had them spawn and run up to them only to have 2 large mosquitos kos them before I could reach them. Start clearing the island till "froglok escort" pops. These will be KOS also. Do everything you can to keep the escorts alive. Patrol the island and kill anything else that moves. Tis mindnumbingly boring work but it works. I filled 6 of 8 slots like that. Now to get the last 2. Good luck
Update on pop
# Aug 30 2004 at 7:46 PM Rating: Decent
I got 3 to pop all 3 was running south along the west side of the path from cab. I was tracking on my ranger the first one popped on track and I killed west of the path along side it on the island after the main one cab is on, forgot to get the loc. I logged on necro and looted it, when I logged back to ranger a second one was up running the same path I assume as he was due south of my location but killed before I could see em. I went hunting for the expected mosquito that killed em and I proceeded to kill everything by the buildings near cab.

As I was tracking the next mosquito on track he showed up again so I killed him again on same island LOC = +660, +2623 just a bit north of the 1st location which was around +150, +2600. I have 200 track and didn't see one escort on track but a few moments before the 1st escaped popped I did see that named "Froglok Escort" one pop then depop just a few moments later before I could find em.

Just before that "Froglok Escort" popped I was doing the named cycle killing and I didn't notice any named up when I killed em, don't know what that is worth but, I think that rotation has somethign to do with is. I was doing as suggested in previous post got nothing in 4 hours got frustrated and just started killing named for fun the boom all 3 spawn 1 after the other. I got my 2 pieces for the 3rd rank of the Demi Lich Skullcap quest and I'm done, sorry would test my theory out more but 4hrs is enough for now when I got 6 more ranks to go =)

A Method
# May 27 2004 at 10:39 AM Rating: Default
Ok, I may have found the solid method to use to get "an escaped froglok" to spawn. Make sure you can see at least one "a froglok escort" alive in the zone and make sure he stays alive. You spawn them by waiting until 8pm game time and killing trash mosquitos and leeches. Once you get it to where there is at least one escort alive in the zone, go crazy killing every single newbie mob you see on the island, in the water near the island, or in the very newbie area near cabilis. As long as the escort is alive it gives the rare chance that "an escaped froglok" can spawn in place of a newbie mob rather than no chance if there are no escorts up. The secret to this method is just to keep continuously killing all the time and make sure the escort stays alive by killing all the mosquitos you see immediately when you see them. I got 2 of them to spawn within 5 game time hours which was less than 20 minutes apart and one spawned in the daytime. I hope this helps finally put an end to the wild goose chase...

I've read the older posts, there's nothing for about a year about this. I have tried to find escaped frogloks for many hours now and no matter how many froglok escorts I manage to cause to spawn (sometimes up to 3 or 4 at one time because I never kill them), no escaped frogloks ever appear. Is there any way to find out if this is in fact broken?

Nothing helpful but as of today I've gotten 7 escorts to spawn at one time and then the captial "Froglok Escort" on top of that and still no damn escaped froglok. This is impossible!

Finding the frogloks
# Jan 21 2003 at 8:44 AM Rating: Decent
I had searched for hours in the swamp of no hope on the Bert server and was unable to find a single froglok. I had the idea of killing off every low level npc i came across in the western portion of the zone. Shortly after, froglok escorts, skippers, tads, fisherman, and escapees were spawning all over the place. I noticed that whenever I was in the zone, I was usually alone or if there were any other pcs, they were normally higher level storming the froglok town. The frogloks seemed to spawn mostly west of the path which runs south from the East Cabilis entrance. I was able to kill about 6 skippers, 4 fishers, and several escapees and escorts within 30 minutes of clearing the area.
Location - problems
# Dec 10 2002 at 8:57 PM Rating: Good
First off, I finally found the one that I was looking for tonight. When I spotted him he was around +800,+2700 heading south-southeast (I engaged him at +550,+2650). I'm guessing that his spawn point is indeed N-NW of that general area, but I have not narrowed it down yet.

The PROBLEM at the moment (and this is new since Sep/Oct 2002)... frogloks and mosquitos are now KoS to each other, so you will need to keep the area clear of the larger mosquitos if you want to have a chance as finding and killing this froggie.
What a pain in the ass

I spent about all day looking for these guys along with my friend. From 11 hours came 3 escaped froglocks... OH and i didnt kill any of the escorts... such a cheap quest for a shackle. IMO - a waste of time.

I bet if all the froglocks, orcs, and goblins teamed up, they could take over Norrath. Just think about it.
#REDACTED, Posted: May 27 2004 at 6:12 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I bet if they did I'd run into the middle of them and cast one Point Blank Area Effect nuke and kill them all in one shot...

Ok. 1 thing ive noticed about the escaped froggies, is that whenever i kill 1, not to shortly after i would get tagged by an escort. i do believe that the escort's fife has something to do with it, but cant state it as a fact.

hope this helps.
