Spawn info is correct, 8 hours from last death
Aviaks around him DO assist him ( I found out the hard way) BUT only if they aren’t a grey con..
He does run ( which was my biggest problem)
3 tries and I’ll break em down.
Duo on Yelinak with 26 War and 25 Cleric
War in full set of Fine plate ~265 AC with buffs
Cleric in mostly Fine plate 865 mana
1st try
Got him to 12% before cleric oom and wiped, he did not run at 12%
2nd try
Grabbed him up on mountain (assumed he didn’t run) manage mana better and only healed with “healing” spell when warrior got to 80% each time. Got him to 11% AND HE RAN!!! Still wasn’t worried due to below post about surrounding Aviaks, but soon found out as they con DB to me they in fact do assist. Wiped with him running, me chasing and about 20 aviaks on my **** beating the living halfling out of me.
3rd try
Clear down at the beach (grey cons) put a damage shield on tank (only 6minute duration at that low level) and pull him, got 2x LB adds , thought I was finished, But, managed to kill the 2 adds (they also ran) then started on Gull with 80% mana but he was down to 82% hp from damage shield. Melee’d him down to 11% and he took off, and I chased, he ran by about 20 grey cons on the beach and they DID not assist. I was able to beat him down and drop him after we ran the Boston marathon around the Aviak island beach.

What a feeling at such low level to get this done!

Hope this help anyone moving forward

For everyone on Progression servers who suddenly find themselves taking new interest in these quests:

Gull Skytalon spawns on Aviak island. (+1800, +4000)
Gull Skytalon is a level 35 straight melee, virtually no magic resistance.
Gull Skytalon will not be assisted if you engage him near other Aviaks, or NPC.
Gull Skytalon has no placeholders. No matter what anyone tells you.
Gull Skytalon has no relation what-so-ever to Soarin Brightblade (in terms of spawn cycles. But it could be his brother, or boyfriend?)
Gull Skytalon takes eight hours to respawn.

Avoid sitting and waiting for him to spawn -- this is very unhealthy. Instead, try and pin-point a time frame when he was last killed by another player and plan accordingly. Make sure to call for a camp check upon arrival from translocator so you don't waste 10 minutes of your life on the damned swim to that island. If your swimming sucks, it may very well take 15 minutes.

This is not an 8 hour spawn. it is random. killed him at 4 minutes after hour and he spawn again 54 minutes later.

class armor

class armor is for ac, not primary attribute, this is true of all the class armors, the attributes are just kinda extra benafits

yes, wis IS needed
# Aug 08 2001 at 10:10 AM Rating: Default
Ok, i may be a shaman and know nothing about clerics but i am however a wis caster. And being one i know that wis is first priority until you hit 200 wis, after that AC, mana, HP etc. I really dont even see a difference w/ high lvl cleric buffs and a full set of totemic, and i CAN tank blues, hihgest hit to date would have to be 76. so the bottom line is wis first and ac and others next if you can, vice versa for hybrids.
RE: yes, wis IS needed
# Nov 11 2001 at 2:16 PM Rating: Good
Well since totemic only has wis on helmet, I would say you don't know. Clerics come in all ways, some play caster types, some just heal, they need wis first and foremost but others play them as little melee types and they need the AC STA STR DEX and AGI also.
It is a personal preference thing and really should be left as such. By the time your cleric is lvl 20 you know what stats your cleric needs to work on.

I wanted to get my Quest arms! I swam with a couple high levels and we got to island, now you guys all worried about spawn point I do not understand, I can run across entire island in less than 1 minute without SOW! Anyways, I camped mt Cleric here and logged in the next day to see him walking around! He conned blue and no one else was in the area. I figured I had nothing to lose except the possibility of him despawning, so I tried him @ 36 with 164 wis (Human) If I had enuf mana for one more cast I could have soloed him, but in the end, minus 2 full bulbs of health : ( I got him after hiring peeps to swim out and meet me to kill him! Woot!

Got him to spawn!
# Oct 29 2000 at 10:42 AM Rating: Default
After spending 6 hours on the Island, we finally figured out how the spawn works. Bring along a ranger or druid, and have them track the Quetzls. Kill them as fast as they appear. every few minutes either a Quetzl, Sorin Brightblade or Gull will spawn. Funny note: We got Soarin to spawn about 3 times in 15 minutes. Not so funny note: Soarin hits REALLY hard, and is a mean fight. There were four of us, 34 war, 35 cleric, 33 Pal and 33 druid and he kept me busy with the heals. Good luck Clerics!
Sorry
# Dec 04 2000 at 2:12 PM Rating: Default
Quetzals are not Gull's PH, Gull's on a timed spawn like almost every other piece of the cleric quest armors. There have been plenty of times when the island would be completely clear of quetzals and i'd have to kill starlings and such just to see them spawn. The best way to get Gull is to camp there and either log on in weird hours or log on right after the server comes up. Actually thats the best way to get all the cleric pieces :P
Log in when the server comes up

Whats his location point in OOT?
#Anonymous, Posted: Aug 11 2000 at 7:27 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) The funny thing is my level 12 cleric with bronze armor (with the exception of the quest leggings and the dread forged shield and a wraithbone hammer) Has more than enough mana to solo nuke 2 red legionnaires to death using root and has about 350 ac already. not to mention I plan on still beefing his ac up there quite a bit once I get more funds to twink him with. The high ac works really well, any time the root breaks they barely get to hit me while I can actually melee the creatures to death better than my warrior used to at his level. I'd suggest investing heavily in high ac items (and AGI items because for some reason I noticed ac items seem to give ac 4.5x the agi on the armor. so like 7 agi made for a whopping +31 ac. insane... Keep this in mind when going for a high ac cleric)

If you have agility below 75 then you tank a huge AC penalty. Just get agility up to 75 and you won't see any more big AC from it.
Plat Armband
# Jul 30 2000 at 1:55 PM Rating: Decent
Personally, I like my Platinum Armband. I may not get AC from it but the +3 wis and +3 str are much needed for a DE cleric
RE: Plat Armband
# Oct 28 2000 at 10:59 AM Rating: Good
I am a DE cleric as well.... WIS is great.... but AE heal spells have a way of aggroing everthing in the zone it seems.... AC is worth the small trade off... keep the armor and +wis the spots that have no quest armor.... just my opinion.

+3 wisdom is only 30 mana if you're level 50. 30 mana isn't enough to matter at all. The Platinum Armband is about as terrible as the blackened iron medalion.
AC matters so much more than 30 or even 100 mana.

I have to agree with Lunarix. I've quested for the cleric quest boots, greaves, and gauntlets so far. I don't think I'm going to quest for these. Sure ac is nice but if mobs aggroing you is the only reason I hear when people agrue in favor of ac, they probably don't make good use of the divine line of spells. Hey, the 30 mana you'll get at lvl 50 from the armbands will let you pull divine aura off. The rule for Clerics should be wis first. I've learned this the hard way. My cleric was my first caster I ever created and I had no knowledge of the game whatsoever. So let's just say I didn't put many points into wis. I've tried hard and gotten it up 151 at lvl 35. I will gladly take wis over ac any day and I'll keep my platinum armbands.
Not worth it
# Jul 20 2000 at 7:20 AM Rating: Decent
I agree with Dain. A few AC for a cleric isnt going to matter. Any cleric would rather have 200 WIS then 300 AC. AC is needed though, but it only useful for a low level cleric. But a cleric with low WIS = medding after 1 buff.
Yes it is
# Sep 09 2000 at 1:46 PM Rating: Default
at lvl 42 with full quest armor and valor armor of faith and symbol of pinzarn I CAN tank blues
I actually have more hp and AC than an unbuffed 50 ranger I know...
the idea is to alternate equipment with weight bags. I have BS tunic plat armband and paw gloves to swap with quest peices. And besides, it looks cool to have a full set. Not only that but you're forgeting that the 5 dex on them helps channeling so you won't be interupted, and the 5 sv fire is great if you fall in lava

# Nov 30 2000 at 10:14 AM Rating: Decent
I don't know what blues you found you can tank at 42, But I'd like to. Self buffed I've only got around 740 AC, 1380 HP or so, 704 ATK (almost to skill cap woohoo). I couldn't tank a blue if my life depended on it. I can root nuke a blue sand giant into oblivion with ease and I've solo'd Terrorantula twice now (second one was higher level I think cause that was a long mean fight). I can root nuke blue Kobolds in Solusek B, but even in the time it takes me to root after nuking I will be down 2 bubs of health when I'm done fighting a high blue Solusek Kobold. I don't see how you could tank it for more than a few seconds at a time without being shredded.

But, on the flip side, these quests are laughable after 45. I did 4 quests in one night all solo just to help out a friend Cleric of mine. Gull and Soarin are both worth experience still at 48th ;-)
And, in the long run, 105 plat or so for enchanted platinum is cheap armor. =)

I'm a partially twinked lvl 34 cleric that's gettin close to 200 wis....i have it planned out right so that by the time i'm 42 or so i can have 200 wis AND still wear a full set of cleric quest armor....all u havta do is play ur cards right and get ur wis in ur non-visible pieces (8wis velium face and 7wis velium rings are a good start)

you cannot solo blue ones
# Jan 03 2001 at 1:15 PM Rating: Default
a 42 warrior can solo low blue ones loosing about 40% hp - if he has untwinked standard equipment, an untwinked cleric can never solo-tank a blue one at 42, unless maybe you count healing spells among tanking - in my oppinion tanking is fighting without casting any spells. but then if you heal you're better off using your mana for nukes instead of healing (when soloing)

at lvl 30 i prefer ac items when grouped (max. mana does not really matter then, i'm never at max. mana in a group, only mana regeneration rate matters) and wis items when soloing (can take harder mobs with more max mana and don't get hit often anyways - i usually don't even buff myself)
Time worth Effort.
# Jul 02 2000 at 8:33 PM Rating: Good
I disagree Dain. Two things make all of the cleric armor worth getting.
The AC of each piece, which is on par and with all the other Hybrid armor,
and the resistance buffs. Wisdom is ofcourse important but so is not getting slammed by amgic spells or getting your butt kicked in Melee combat.
spawn point
# Jun 26 2000 at 10:23 PM Rating: Good
Spawns on the North area of the isle beside a tree on a small flat area. Long spawn over 7hrs I believe. Spent 2 days waiting on him to appear without luck. In my opinion, you can get better items that actually give Wisdom bonuses fairly cheaply and with less time expenditure.
