They really need to go back and take a look at some of the older drop rates, atleast for epics. My mage just got his 42nd kill, and still no Dirt of Underfoot.

Location is correct - my friend is on The Rathe server, single monster - just watch out for the wasps and stuff that fly around.

Best way she found to kill it easily (she's a 49 mage) - she had Virtue on her and pet, Koadic's Endless Intellect, and then her own pet buffs and Lava Shield. Pet weapons obviously either Hand of Ixiblat or the Summoned Fireblade that a level 40 pet can use and proc. Full summoned plate armor and Elemental Defender on pet.

She then sat on her horse, chain casted Refresh Summoning on her pet til the monster was around 60%, then alternated casting Cinder Bolt on monster and Refresh Summoning on pet til it was like 30%, then just threw nonstop Cinder Bolts til it died and neither her nor pet was below 75% life, and with 19 minute spawn time, plenty of meditation time left over :))

5th showing of it dropped the Dirt of Underfoot, all others were completely empty.

Downed him on Tunare / Ec'i at 8:44 PM pacific Time. Was Fairly easy as a 52 mage but had a 70 pally with me. He killed it in 2 procs of Holyforge Combat ability of 4k+

So he must have like 8 - 10k hp, notsure didnt nuke it once. Hit for 40 dmg at the most on pally.

At level 51, this guy was pretty easy. I got Virtue on myself and my pet, and I got KEI for myself. I took the OT stone and went to Skyfire. Head south and then when you reach the zone border, go west. Invis is a VERY good thing here. Once you get to BW (I had a map), there will be a meteor at about -1000, -1000... but a little north of that. North of the meteor is a massive crater (the meteor itself is in the crater). I lev'd myself, and Slixin was right there, just north of the meteor. I BOIII'd and DS'd my pet, and pulled him with malaise as far away as I could (I have a drog, they take time to speed up). I ran up the southern edge of the crater, and run a tad more (a VERY tad). I summoned my pet (Summon Companion, gotta love that spell), and waited... and waited... finally, this guy shows up.

The fight was easy. I started off by chain healing my pet when he started to get below 80, and then I nuked once (come on, gotta have SOME exp! ;)). After the fight was over (and he didn't drop anything), I noticed that my mana was at 0, but my pet's health was fairly high. I changed my tactics for the next pull. Now, I was healing with Refresh Summoning ONLY, rather than alternating heals (as per the mag chain healing tactic) until my pet got down to 50% (it took quite a while), at which point I switched back to alternating heals for a short time. Slixin died shortly after I reverted to alternating.

The third pull, he started running before my earth pet re-rooted him. He dropped the dirt, and I gated back out.

He hits for about 137, and has at least 8,000 hp, based on the fact that I nuked for 600 and his hp went down something like 7%.

I went to Burning Woods last night with my level 51 magician, looking for some Dirt of Underfoot. A couple of comments on Slixin:

I killed him twice. First time, he dropped no loot at all. Second time, he dropped the Dirt of Underfoot and nothing else.

The second Slixin was definitely harder to kill than the first. But I could not have handled either version without some heavy buffing. I had KEI; my pet had Pot9, Regeneration, and Nature's Might in addition to Burnout III and Lava Shield. It was still fairly close, so I got the druid who buffed me the first time to come stand by for the second fight. That made the situation considerably safer.

I might mention that neither of us encountered any mobs on the way from the Dreadlands zone to the meteor (although I saw a wurm in the distance), and there were no wanderers or adds during the two fights and the between fight meditating.

Slixin is shown here as a warrior - best I can tell, he cast no spells - but he did a lot of spin kicks that certainly looked like monk moves to me.

I just killed Slixin Klex for the first time. I used three of my 57 Earth pets on him. I did no direct damage and casted no heals except for last pet when I saw I'd win. Smiley: grin. I only casted Burnout IV and Cadeau of Flame as pet buffs. At around 20% pet health I started to cast the next one with "/pet get lost" typed and waiting for the return key. Smiley: smile

Of course no Dirt of Underfoot. Smiley: bah

As mentioned before: The hornets around there can be annoying so you might want to have a close look at the surrounding while fighting Klex.
(You can outrun the hornets with the cheapest horse, so it might be a good idea to get your mount. Smiley: smile)

I've been having my Necro kill this guy while my Mage is camped nearby, since the Necro can handle the annoying green and light blue adds better. To save having to kite him around I've been using Dooming Darkness, Paralysing Earth, Splurt and Pyro, refreshing the DoTs when they run out and throwing on Bond of Death as required to heal from Demi Lich: normally he breaks the root once before dying but hasn't resisted anything yet.

Eight kills and no Mage drop so far... hope it turns up soon!

Edit: cool, 10th kill it finally dropped, and I got Tarbul Earthstrider with my Mage the same day :).

Also, as well as the Coin of Xev and the Dirt, he dropped a Staff Shard of Luclin:

Ok, at the convincing of the 45 Paladin friend I was traveling with, we attacked Slixin (I was lvl 49). I had the 49 earth pet fully equipped with summoned daggers, defender, and plate. I also had BO3, LS, and Storm giant strength on him (just got a beard from GD). My paladin friend, Strydaer and I both had KEI. I pulled with a Malisement, then sent in pet. Paladin stayed back through half the fight ready to heal my pet. I waited for my pet to take him down a full bubble, then cast Lava bolt. I interchanged between refresh summoning and Lavabolt. Strydaer jumped into the fight when Slixin was down somewhere between 50% and 30% health, also with a LS on. Slixin was defeated soon thereafter. There were no adds from any hornets, and the Dirt didn't drop.

Waited and fought him again. This time we had both lost KEI. Fight went similar to the first, but I used Lava Bolt more often. He dropped the Dirt of the Underfoot on the second try. My pet lived through both fights. But the point here is he can be taken with a 49 maage and a 45 paladin without KEI.

Slixin hunting

First of all, Slixin Klex is very easy to kill. I strongly feel that a L52 mage can solo him without chaining. Use 51 earthpet. Use 52 pet heal spell no problem.

It took 9 kills for me to get the Dirt. Some people are luckier, some are less lucky. Plan to be there for a while.

Here's the advice:
You have to get to BW. Have a druid friend/guildie take you, then run to BW. You will want the druid to track Gullerback and the named wurms to kill between Slixin Spawns. Mages need a drop from the wurms anyway, and this helps alleviate the boredom.

IMPORTANT: Bring a third player. He needs to be a tank. You do not need him to kill Slixin. You do not need him to kill the named wurms or Gullerback. You need him to keep the variety of angry hornets off your back.

These stinking green/light blue/ even dark blue hornets are a serious problem once your pet is committed to a higher level foe, Slix or wurm. Cinder hornets are hight 30s. Scoriae (sp?) are even higher. They hit for over 100.

All of you high 40s to mid 50s mages know exactly how long you're going to last taking 250 damage per round from an add mob you didn't expect.

Take a tank with you, I say again. It will remove all doubt and difficulty from the main kills. And, it will save your live from those stupid hornets.

either solo, or get in a group of one.

A very good post.

I confirm that he can be soloed at 52 without chain casting a pet, because I just did it =)

After reading the posts I decided to go it alone and get in there and chain him quick before any roamers could come up.

I buffed my 51 earth pet with BOIII, LS, and a full set of phantom plate w/ elemental defender.

I let him attack and tank the mob down 1/2 bubble health, they were running neck in neck actually. When he was down 1/2 bubble health I started chaining him with char. After about 3k damage he aggroed me but pet rooted him off. Healed the pet with lev 52 heal spell, chained him until he aggroed me again, let pet root him off, heal pet, repeat.

All in all I healed my pet 3, maybe 4 times, and with 255int and KEI I only burned 50m.

My pet was at about 40pct health when I was done.

The dirt dropped the first time, I was lucky. I was also lucky because a couple of wanderers did come really close. 2 were right by me when he died. However his spawn is stagnant (see below posts, they are correct) so as a 52 mage you can do this guy easily if you're careful and kill him quick.

The only thing I would change if I needed to do it again would be to not use a horse. He runs fast and when he aggroed me he did quite a bit of damage before I could get up to speed to run away. If you have a horse don't use it because you'll pull aggro from him if you follow my strategy, and he hits fairly hard so you'll want to be able to move quick.

Good luck fellow mages!

ok, killed him twice with no Dirt and I was getting a little frustrated. So I decided to use a little logic (as usual) to get what I wanted.

So my druid and enchanter friend and I headed over to the crater for the third time and before we got started I yelled...

then stood on my tipties and did a dance of joy.

Bingo... he dropped it :)

Happy hunting... and don't discount the Summoner's chant & dance

My level 52 mage, and a level 54 mage guildie, we took him down VERY easily, both with 51 earth pet, Burnout'ed and DS'ed (shield of lava).

No chain pet required, pets were half life after fight. Don't forget to toss him a Malosini if you want to nuke ;p

We got the Dirt at the first kill, and we're waiting on the next spawn as I am writing this ...

Last night I killed Slixen. He was very easy. Just had to chain cast my 51 Vocerate Earth Pet and Lava Shield and Burnout 3 it. Took 4 to 6 pets all with DS and Burnout 3. Only thing to watch out for is possible adds from hornets. I did cast elemental maelstorm on him once. But all and all it was pretty easy. Hope this helps some mages out.

A lvl 55 Mage buddy of mine was soloing him last night. He used about 20mana and 6 lvl 51 Earth pets (medding between pets that is). I got tired of playing my monk, so I joined him with my 51 Mage. Easy duo. Both of us using 51 earth, he dropped in about 5 total pets. killed him 12 times. His respawn time is about 27 mins. ( Got 2 dirts, one on the 5th kill, other on the 12th. He has an estimated 12-15K HPs, doubles and triples, max hit I saw was 147 I think (could be more). We slayed some scoraie hornets and some wurms to pass the time between spawns, hoping to get some spells 8(. Named wurm Nez was up, but we couldn't find him...Lol...Mages need track I tell you. 55 and 52 Mage could do it. Dropped 2 dirts in 6 kills. Just beware of adds (hornets)! Seek a save place and pull it there.
mage can solo him

If you have 57 mage pet (earth staff helps). burnout pet, dmg shield pet. pull with malosi then send pet in. trick is to run far enough away and have pet targeted, second you see pet die make another pet and dmg shield it before he gets to you. repeat until he starts running then blast with whatever mana you have left. It's a boring tactic but it worked for me. Killed him 10 times before getting dirt.

heh. wouldn't it be easier to just chain pets? I'll explain, since it seems the poster doesn't know how, and it's often the most mana-effective way of soloing for a mage... What you do is you watch pet's HPs... when it's around 30% (use /pet report health) you start casting a new pet. While casting, type /pet get lost, when the spell is almost done casting, hit enter. Old pet dies, new pet arrives at your side. Toss the new pet a DS (and BO if you got too much mana :p). Most mages use earth pet for this, since the root acts as insurance if the old pet should die before done making a new one. This way of soloing is not really mana effective until 40+. It requires good timing, but that is easy to attain with some practise. I find it hard to believe a mage that has played to (at least) 57 don't know how to do this.
Oh, and I got the dirt on first kill :)

ok, i gotta ask. when casting a spell, you can still use pet commands? cuz i knwo i can't. my method of chaining is to MAKE SURE that the mob is rooted or far away and use a focus item to reclaim energy instead of pet get lost, then cast new pet. costs half the mana, but if the root breaks or if it never stuck, you could have a potentially explosive situation. however, i can confirm at lvl 51 i have had 2 dark blu mobs whackin me doing this method and still managed to get the pet off. not that at lvl 51, slix is db, cuz he ain't. but my point hehehe, as far off as i may have gotten, is that you can't use the get lost command "while" casting.

and, if i am wrong here, please correct me.

hehe, leave it to me to correct myself hehe, one more thing:

if you want to use the method of squeezing every last bit of health outta yur pet, instead of reclaiming (not mana efficient in the long run here btw) make sure you time yur cast so that he dies before you finish casting. and hehe, i know i love my casting time redux ring, permanent part of my life as an elementalist, so you should be rockin one as well. meaning quicker pet casting. can't go wrong.

unless yur name is Magi'kot hehehe

If you're trying to use hotkeyed pet commands during a cast you're right, it can't be done.

Type /pet get lost in the chat bar (be within verbal command range) but don't hit the ENTER key yet. Watch the cast timer. When it's down to about 1 bubble, hit enter. Have the mob targetted so you can send in the new pet the moment it arrives.

I can 100% absolutely no doubt about it give pet commands while I am casting a spell. I do it all the time, pull with malo line, run back to pet, start casting SoS, then right when mob is right before where he can hit me, i /pet kill and the pet sure enough goes right at him, rooting him 9/10 times, sos lands, fight starts with mob at 85%. if root doesn't stick, you might have to train your pet a few times until he regains aggro, smooth sailing. anyway, you can DEFINATELY give pet commands while casting, so you can SURELY give /pet get lost right at last second of casting new pet, but dont time it wrong! a "you cannot have 2 pets" message followed by a /pet get lost command = bad day!!

Me a lvl 53mage, a lvl 54mage and a lvl 51 mage came here to camp this guy and the named wurm. This guys hits for 137dmg and has alot of hp's, but we killed him fairly easily. Our 3 pets combinded with shield of lava on could solo.. but i doubt soloable. We killed him within 1 minute of an 18minute spawn time for about 3-4hours and never got 1 dirt drop for epic.
We killed the wurms ph and all other mobs in the area hoping to kill Phurzikon or Nezekezena for the embers, neither spawned once in that time.

On my note of frustration i have invested 20hours into the blazing and lava elementals and got no power of fire, 50hours into quillmane and no cloak. and these are the "easy" parts of our epic. WTF this is *** for a game to consume this much time... Verant if u read this u REALLY need to fix some chit.

The cloak is the third hardest part of the quest and then the power of fire is just a pain to get, not even mentioning the crown of elemental mastery or the staff of mastery earth. once you camp those 2 you can start complaining.

I concur... I was the lvl. 51 mage. Long spawn time for a drop which seems to be rare. As to the number of long camps for the mage epic, especially the blazing elemental (I got it after about 20 hours of camping time, and feel lucky) and Quillmane (I have not even bothered to try): too bad that the quest designers could not come up with more fights like Tarbul, or dungeon situations like the Frenzied room in LGuk or the gypsy dancers in MM. That would encourage/force us to group with others as well as help other people with their quests (melee types to get a fbss, bards to get MM drums or a gypsy lute). This current set of camps seems to encourage us to, well, camp. I am not sure I need more practice at that, lol.

I do not mind things taking time, but when it is me reading a book and letting my stopwatch remind me when it is time to go back to the computer to insta-kill some green spawn, that is not quality time. Not to mention that sometimes we are forced to camp something that other people would love to kill for exp...

Being a lvl 51 mage atm as well, I would like to wholeheartedly agree, quillmane, i have EASILY spent over 3kpp and 100 hours hunting and empty-handed am i. as for the pieces for the power of the the focus items, gotta stick with it. of the four, fire took longest.

and that cloak should REALLY be mage-only.

Hey Hugh, was the one that dropped the dirt IN the crater by the Meteor? Alla has two MOB's listed with the same name, so I don't know if one is static and one is roaming. I've killed the one on that ledge in the crater at least a dozen times now, no Dirt. BTW, I was 51 before I started hunting him, but I'd be very surprised if he was L50, he's maybe a little tougher then the Wurms but not too much.
