I have killed this guy at least 20 or more times since I was level 44. I am currently 51. He is pretty much totally magic resistant, but fire will stick for full about 95 percent of the time. He has never, ever, EVER summoned me or anyone in my group, including the 51 variant. He has dropped the mantle every single time.

Big time wuss if you have the right strategy.
Resistant fella...

...but not COMPLETELY immune. Our 54 druid could not stick snare, but who cares, he is undead and won't run. She was able to land scoriae a few times, about half resisted partially/fully, and half hit for full dmg. I'd recomment not casting until he is well under half, you don't want this guy to frenzy on anybody but a tank. I as a sk could occasionally land heart flutter, but nothing else. At least, even when he resists, you get the aggro for the spells so you can taunt him. If you got a cleric and a couple tanks he is a poc, but then thats true of almost anything. : )

To a 49 Ranger, there are blue Gullerbacks (you might see two or three of these up at a time on track), and a red Gullerback (have only seen one of him up at any given time). Don't know if they are all supposed to be "the named mob" or if blue ones are more or less a different creature, like tatterbacks and tottering, but I do know this... they are ALL hard to fight. All are 100 percent magic resistant (if you get something to stick, go off to the side for a moment, pour yourself a glass of champaigne, and enjoy -NOW GET BACK IN THERE), and they fight like there's no tomorrow. Fierce. All drop the Tattered Mantle. And the red is supposedly the placeholder for Azdalin, the named wurm used in the Wurmslayer quest.

There is only 1 Gullerback up at any given time. He is the placeholder for Azdalin. My druid has hunted there from 51-57, and i've never seen more than 1 Gullerback on track ever. Tatterbacks, moldering, and the likes, but only 1 Gullerback.
If you are seeing more than one on track, post a screenshot of it. I want to see what you are seeing.
Also, they arent 100% magic resistant, just have a higher resistance than others. Cannot root or snare (get the message about its movement speed not affected by spells). However, DoT's land, as do any DD spells.

lets put things straight, gullerback is the place holder for azdalin the wurm who drops the dragon scales

it is 100% fire res soi dont bother you cant snare or root it he is slow as hell soas long as you have sow on it is a easy make sure pet has taunt off cause he will kill it easy.

way to do him is druid pull with snare and then fite it to death he is easily pulled of so join in with the kiting the spawn is quick so be prepared for azdalin to pop with in 4 minutes of guller going down if not kill guller again his spawn point is slightly south of the ginats fort

the other wurm is the harder to pop out of the two

Magic immune now?

Verant must have changed him. I remember shortly after Kunark came out, my 50-52 necro killed him several times with dark/fear/Undead dd/Pet and although he was awfully resisty (usually didnt have the mana to nuke at all, just slow/fear and med) He certainly wasnt Immune. Not then at least.
Nice ape

I just soloed him at lvl 46. Yes- i'm a bard.
He coned red and resisted my dots a lot, but i killed him in about 30 minutes without taking any damage myself :)
The mantle sure beats my old Hand wowen shoulderpads.

First time I ran into this ape I was soloing in BW, dot kiting various spawns around the giant fort. Silly ape tapped me on the shoulder for 130 or so and stunned me. After I finished spinning and after taking at least a bubb or 2 of damage, I figured this dude is messing with the wrong bard. Luckily I had all 3 of my dots up (100% MR) but chanted him with fire and cold to death with a nosotrolo's tamborine which worked quite nicely. It took some time, must have a load of hp's.

Ever since he has picked this fight with me every time I see him I deal him the same favor. Solo killed him the first time at lvl 48, and have killed him like 7 times or so as of now. Always dropped the tattered mantle, and he never summoned me, just fell over and died like any silly monkey should (esp after around 10 minutes of kiting). To this day he is still on my hit list!

Hard fight
# Jul 29 2001 at 8:18 PM Rating: Decent
We got him twice today, but very hard fight for us. Had 45 warrior (me) 47 Ranger 42 Shaman 45 Cleric 43 Rogue and a 43 Shadowknight. The first fight he was an add from a Hornet pull. We snared then rooted the Bug to concentrate on the ape, which still nearly whooped us. According to the casters he was 100% resistant to everything they tossed at it. I guess he was hitting me for about 80 to 120, con'd red, and played me like a doll most of the fight. Second time we were prepaired for him, then after the pull lost our Shaman to LD (well some sort of keyboard bug) and ended up with another close fight. We lost our Rogue to a Hornet that wandered in while fighting. =( Both were red to the 47 ranger, but neither summoned. Both dropped the mantle.
Not that tough
# Jul 27 2001 at 7:18 AM Rating: Decent
Soloed him at 51, I'm a bard. Not too tough, took about 9 minutes. Probably alot harder for other classes... necros/mages probably the only other ones that can solo him.

high 40's to low 50's group including chanter, druid, warrior, and cleric.. Had about 4 tatterbacks pulled with him so it was hectic at first and the druid died, but he was bound right there and rejoined the fight which was long but pretty much under control. Cleric and Druid healed, Enchanter charmed a tatterback on him, and warrior just sat there with SLW on and pounded away, it was an easy kill, no kiting involved.

Well, I was joyfully introduced to this frikin monkey last night while running through BW. I had been warned many times about his resistances and danger so i had tried to avoid him, but found it impossible last night.
When the fight started I tried the usual necro tactics, hoping beyond hope that maybe i would be lucky enough for them to stick. Nope.
My pet finally taunted him off me so I sat down and memmed gate, mend bones, and scent of darkness. (Figured what the heck.)
Anyway, scent of darkness stuck on him and dropped his buffs enough that i was then able to stick EB, and Scourge on him. Well, that made me is favorite snack of the night and he ignored my pet beating on him. I don't have j boots since i refuse to sit and camp the stupid cyclopse for the majority of the very limited time i have to play EQ, so I have a few 10 dose sow potions on me. (I buy the components and have a friend with a shaman to make them at cost.) Anyway, sowed he did a decent job of keeping close to me and with those two dots on him he ignored my pet for the majority of the battle as I ran around him in circles. (Bet everybody thought it was real funny. Everyone but me.)
When my pet did enough damage for guller to turn on it, I just redotted with EB or scourge and eventually guller dropped. It was a long fight and I ran around the giant for so nothing was really that close to add to the agro. (Once i got Entalon to join in on the fun, but a quick darkness and fear got rid of him.)
I ended up dropping guller 3 times last night with all of them being blue to me at 51. Finally i got Azaldin to spawn from this and got his scale.
The last time i killed him i took my pet off taunt and just ran around and around and around. It worked ok, but EB runs out too fast so it helps to have your pet taunt it so guller will turn on your pet faster so you can get off another dot.

Well, that was my expierence with Mr. Monkey. Good luck all.

We were hunting wurms by the Giant fort, and he's supposedly the PH for one of the named ones. We pulled and killed him 4 times - two groups of 4 lvl 45-54. The last time he arrived with a wurm and proceeded to kill 4 of us, including both our healers, before we were finally able to pound him down. His higher level version will hit in the 130s and he seems pretty much totally magic resistant (resisted all snares and mezzes).

I've been in various pickup groups in BW when this monkey from hell got pulled.

He's immune to fear, slow, snare, root, so presumeably any magic-based spell will bounce. I have landed disease and poison DOTs on him, but they're major taunts and he kicked the crap out of me every time.

Pet kiting is good for taking him out if your group is melee deficient. Melee/heal is also a good tactic. I was a 51 shaman grouped with 47 warrior and 47 rogue. Had my pet out, and I had everybody hasted and HP buffed before he got pulled. All I did afterwards was heal, heal, heal, and he eventually went down.

Can a 54 Druid Solo this guy?
# Jun 25 2001 at 10:21 AM Rating: Default
Are there any Druids out there that have figured out how to solo this guy? If so, how did you do it?

Thanks

Seriously doubt that he can be solo'd. the one i took down tonight was 51 and he did summon, he hit quite hard and quite fast. Tons of hp too. We had 2 groups of 40+ and a few in the 50's. Suppose if you found him in his lvl 48-50 form, possibly, but would take a while.

Hi, I'm a 51 bard and I just soloed a blue version of Gullerback in about six minutes. Using my manaless Dots and my Selo's Drum, he wasn't too bad but I couldn't land any magic based songs on him (fire and cold based worked just fine though).

me (40 pally) was with a group of mid 40's (shammy, pally, pally, ranger, wizard) we were lookin for some xp here when this guy jumped us, he aggroed the pally and resisted most spells. We were forced to run. He is almost totally magic resistant and was red to a 45 pally.
Not too hard

We weren't even looking to fight him... had an OoP caster run him in on us while we were medding. Took him down with no problem really. A 48 and 40 warrior, 43 cleric, 45 SK, and 51 Shaman

Guller is undead, but don't let that fool you. I tried Turning of the Unnatural and he didn't even blink -- didn't try a banish since we had a ranger as prime tank and he was getting clobbered too fast to waste mana on resisted nukes. Druid in the group couldn't get dots, snares, or nukes (even low-resist ones like Winged Death) to stick. Necro got a poison dot to stick, but that was it, and cast snare too many times (resisted all) and had to zone.

Definitely send pets and melees, and have everybody else stick to healing. A serious tank and a proper cleric are essential if you want to do it in one swoop. His level range does vary widely, and he won't run at the end of the fight.

My group found him by the giant fort just now, he con'd yellow to me (45 warrior). Group was 45 War, 46 ranger, 48 ench, 48 cleric, 47 druid. He resisted everything but fire based spells it seemed. We basically just had me and the ranger melee and get healed for a few minutes. Wasn't too hard really but we did lose the enchanter cause she kept trying to fear and tishan. I won the roll on the mantle too =)

Both conned blue to me 49 druid we can a 51 war 50 cleric 48 pally 40 something mage and a 56 wiz and another 40 something cleric and another 40 something mage. everyone reported all fire ice magic based spells to stick with lil resist. however i was with a grp killin him when i was 45 or so i got nothing to stick at all on him.

Key facts on Gullerback from my Burning Woods expedition last night:

-level 48-51
-hits 100-140 usually
-runs at normal speed so quite easy to pull except that long pulls can be tricky due to the risk of adds
-almost totally resistant to snare/fear so bring a strong healer and tough fighters

Our group consisted of a 47 ranger, 51 monk, 48 necro, 45 chanter, 50+ druid and a 46 rogue. We were able to kill Gullerback quite easily several times although it was difficult the first time as we underestimated him somewhat.

He's an easy kill for a 50 Mage and Necro. Don't bother trying to snare him for Fear kiting, and I never got Malise to stick. But he burns well, and doesn't seem to have too bad resists. First time I lost the Skel pet and the Fire pet was pretty low. I wasted too much time trying to dark, it was a waste of time. But VoS/Ignite Blood and Lava Bolt stick 90% of the time. Ignite bones didn't. We just load him up on DoT's and burn with Lava Bolt, not that bad of a kill. He didn't seem to hit the pets much harder then the other stuff in that area, 140's or so. Comparing him to Vox is like comparing a DW Crocodile to a Sand Giant. Just don't try to Snare or Dark, I've never heard of it sticking.
Killing Him
# Apr 29 2001 at 11:35 PM Rating: Default
We killed this guy 3 times, the 4th attempt being the summoning version, so we called it quits. Our group consisted of 3 druids, levels 42, 40 and 51. It was quite humorous to for us to take turns being chased since we couldnt snare him. 3 kills, 3 mantles
