Xalgoz  

A few weeks ago, I made it my goal to get the staff to drop, because I had a feeling it still DID drop, even though Alla said it doesn't.
The thing is, it's VERY RARE and I could see how people could get the idea that it doesn't drop anymore.

I had it drop for me once before (2008 or 2009) and it wasn't nearly this long of a camp. Foolishly, I sold it ($15k or so I think).
This time, I decided that I wanted to get it again and hang onto it.

Well, here are my notes for the spawns. Keep in mind that I may have a missed writing a few down here and there, but the spawns are all mostly there.

Not all of these days are consecutive. In fact, most aren't, but since there was literally NO ONE (well, maybe once) in the zone during the entire time I camped this, I felt pretty confident that I was the only one killing spawns.

Here's the totals in case you're interested:

Spawn timer: 24 min (for Xalgoz's spawn)
Total spawns: 88
Total placeholder (ph) spawns: 46
Total Xalgoz spawns: 42
Percentage of Xalgoz spawns: 47.7%
Staff drop: 1/42 = 2.38%

DRI = dungeon rot infected (This was the mob that started out as either ph or Xalgoz, but when he got to a certain %health, he changed into me - shape-shifter)

I'm totally excited that the staff dropped for me and that it still DOES drop.

PLEASE update Allakhazam's info, since it still drops. It's just very rare.
A RARE drop off a mob on a 24 min spawn timer, but Xalgoz doesn't even spawn half the time (at least for me).

FWIW, the camp isn't all bad. I got bags full of defiant gear to sell in bazaar, a bunch of vender trash (runes mostly) and a fair amount of coin.

Hello all:

We just killed Xalgoz act druid lvl 40 with merc killed him. and he dropped two Fang's and a Shrunken Iksar Skull Neckless, was easy kill db to lvl 40 druid. had to fight the add next to him as well doe.

Did the Invoke Fear potion of this item always have a recommended level of 40?
I camped this guy back in 2003 or 2004 (before I quit) for quite a few hours and he never dropped the staff. Would have loved it for my low level necro.
I'm going to go back and give it a whirl though, for old times.
Unless they revamped the zone (doubt it), I soloed him easy with my 65 cleric at the time...he has decent gear, but keep in mind that I'm speaking in terms PoP and prior era (Velius dragons and quest gear, etc). He still has the same gear, but it Lv 71 now with about 8300 hp (buffed) and 7500 mana (unbuffed).

65 WARRIOR *MYSELF* and 70 monk both of us Ubared out to the EXTREME just DUOED this CREATURE!!!! The fight lasted maybe long enough to target the MOB! We used our Attack and slash Method and He went down like a hot pile of rocks! we are both UBER VERY UBER and I personally as a 65 warrior have 12k hp unbuffed the monk has about 16k hp unbuffed so we could of practically taken the entire zone while we did we are both UBER it was so easy for us to do this OH MY GOD! we are good yes! congrats

my bard singing his DS songs just killed him in like 60 sec just dont try this one if you dont cause damage by swinging at him the corpse goes POOF!! maybe the second time around i will get my drop

hes got less than 3862 hp fo sho nuked him dead in like a millisecond =-)

i just thought i'd be cool like everyone else and tell you how fast i droped him, 2.5 secs, crit nuke :)

As a rogue I didn't have to deal with clearing half the zone. Here is the important stuff:

Snuck down to him, went down ramp behind altar. Killed downstairs greenies and got a Dusty Ransacker's Pack as a bonus. Used freshly cleared downstairs area to pull him to. *I recommend this if you dislike adds* Easy pull at level 58.

Fight went like this: (He was Light Blue)
He casts a lot. Boiling Blood & Screaming Terror are his favorites. He couldn't land anything on me, and my resists are all around 90. That fear spell would have been a problem if it had landed though.
I didn't backstab, since I was solo. Just whacked him a lot and he went down easy (I was at 75% out of 4kHP when it was over). No disciplines, no poisons, just straight-up fighting. Took rougly 80 seconds.

Fought him twice in hopes of a Staff of the Dreaded Gaze. Instead, I saw:
(3) Xalgozian fangs
(1) Blade of Xalgoz
(1) Shrunken Iksar Skull Necklace

Advice:
1) If you're worried about adds, get down the ramp (or jump down the pit on the right side of the church) and clear out the 4 undead down there. Pull Xalgoz down the ramp and you will have a much easier time.
2) Get a Magic Resist buff. If his fear sticks, you'll be fairly screwed.
3) Take your time getting to him! Kaesora is confusing, fairly large, and full of potential adds, especially near the church.

Killed 26th May 2006, 19:39 GMT.

Dropped necklack, fang, sword.

A real gimp for a level 70 beast with almost 400 aa. He lasted maybe 30 seconds top before he dropped 2 fangs and a necklace. Rot timer on corpse is 8 min so if no one is in zone when you kill and there's extra fang, it will rot anyway so bring a friend.

Took me about an hour clearing trash mobs and ph's before he popped.

took him down buffless. Had half life when I was done. Xalgoz doted me a couple of times. Every time he started to cast I'd get behind him and nail a backstab.

Took him down solo, 6 DEC on Stromm. Had all self buffs on to include all saving throws, frenzy from my fabled screaming mace, Elixr of Speed VI, Elixr of Clarity VI and strengthen. Took it slow through the zone and was able to get single pulls all the way to the pit. I cast Celestial Healing on myself and jumped in. Killed the 4 mods at the bottom with Soulstipper and banish undead then moved out to the church and pacified and single pulled mods back to the pit to thin things out. Xalgoz was the only one to put up a real fight; I just kept hitting him with Banish undead (which worked ever though he is not listed as undead) until he dropped.

I sol'd him tonight with a 53 shammy. I never had to heal myslef, and finished the wight with 65% health. He landed a couple of DOTs on me, but his fear spell never stuck. The big hassle is working your way down to him. I was new to Kaesora and my map was incomplete so it took a little while.

Camped him for around 6 hours as I was exping my group. Got him to spawn around 7 or 8 times but everytime he had 2 Xalgozian Fangs and a Shrunken Iksar Skull Necklace - never got any other loot from him?

These items been removed or they just super rare?

There have been posts stating that you can target Xalgoz then run behind the church and cast through a window. Well it seems you need to be sitting in the window frame to do this, and as of the DX9 patch a few weeks ago, my Erudite necromancer gets irretreivably stuck in the window. So make sure you can get *out* of the window before starting this procedue.

BTW Xalgoz is doable by a 44 necro, takes some work since he will dot you to death like any other necro. At 46 I can clear the entire church area and take down X no problem.

With Virtue - 3250hp, 1113ac. Just took him down and got my fang. FD flopped to church. South of the church is a clear area, so buffed there (Captain Nalot's Quickening, Kilva Skin of Flame) and then drank an IVU potion. Went into church, onto the stage, and then aggroed the PH and the nearest guard. These went down quickly without aggroing anything else. Then FD and /q, as I wanted to make sure my virtue didn't drop in the 30 minute wait :-)

Half hour later, logged back in, another PH. Took him and the guardian out, no other aggro. Drank another IVU potion, camped.

Half hour later, Logged back in, There's Xalgoz. Couldn't decide whether to go resistant or fearless, but figured fearless would probably be better, as I didn't want a pile of adds.

Attacked and concentrated on Xalgoz letting the 2 guardians just beat themselves to death on the DS. Switched to 2hb when I realised I was beating myself to death on his :-)

Used mend, finished fight with 40% health. Looted and ran back to clear area, aggroing whole church. FD'd and waited. Once clear, stood up and swigged down the gate potion.

It was sooo easy to get down to where Xalgoz is. I just havent gotten him to spawn...yet. Should be no problems for anyone that is 55+

I took this place alone with ease for my HS key. As a 65 Ranger I was self-buffed and never got into any situations where i couldn't have walked away from the keyboard and came back a few minutes later and still be alive =)

I went with some friends to get fangs for HS. We screwed around the whole time, was very fun. First time he popped, I had a pet charmed already, second pop, I charmed his ass. It was funny cause I could see all the buffs he was casting on himself ad stuff. I was dueling my shammy friend at the moment too, so X was casting and beating on him Lol After like 5min, we got bored and killed him. Was very fun night :D

I am a 65 paladin, tried going down to Xalgoz and got owned half way there.

Will I be able to solo this guy as a 53 warrior equipped this way?



I figure use my resist disc to up my resists for his spells and then just wade in and try and smoke him.

Xalgoz is on a 30min timer. All the other spawns in the area are on a 20min timer. He spawns on the dais in the church and has a placeholder. He'll always drop at least one Xalgozian Fang, sometimes two.

Long story short (kinda)...

I'm a level 54 beastlord. I had just finished up with a group in the Torgiran mines (where I got my black powder, woot!), and decided that while I still had some good buffs, I would run to Kaesora to get a Xalgoz fang for my Charasis key. I used invisibility to drop down through the holes, and run down towards the church area. The first time I saw an undead mob is where I stopped to summon my warder and buff us up for some greenie steamrolling. I fought my way down to the church, and cleared the mobs out of the first tower on the left, then the platform in front of the church. While I was fighting, I heard Xalgoz casting spells, so I thought to myself, "Great! He's already up for me to kill!". After clearing the platform, I pulled out the mobs in the room with him, and everything was ready for a nice safe fight with a low blue mob. I pulled Xalgoz out, and once my pet was on him, I dropped Ice Shard and Frost Shard on him for some fast damage early on (mainly because the other two folks who had entered the zone had already worked their way down to the church, and I could see them watching me fight on the platform ) , then stepped up to melee with him. Towards the end of the fight, he was almost dead, and my Ice Shard had refreshed, so I stepped back and let him have it. I was about to become a very happy Iksar!

I looted the corpse, and of course he had the shrunken skull medallion for the Iksar shaman cudgel quests. Great, my shaman is an Iksar, and he's almost to this part of the quests, so maybe I can MQ this necklace. Next, I looted my Xalgoz fang, and since I already have a Jade Chokidai Prod in the bank, my Charasis key is just a short time away. To top it all off... he also dropped the Staff of the Dreaded Gaze! My necromancer is level 52, and of course he's also an Iksar, so this staff will come in extremely handy for him! This was just one of those kills that makes you feel good about killing it, since I managed to loot three items that will help out three different Iksar of mine. Woot woot woot, I'm so glad I decided to run down to Kaesora and kill Xalgoz for his fang!

The correct info for Xalgoz is he has a 30 minute respawn time. He's a dark blue con to a lvl 47, but seems to be a bit of an undercon. Has a ton of HP, doesn't hit that hard though. He also counts as undead, so once slowed he's very easy to kill. He has a place holder that spawned twice out of the three hours I'd killed him. He dropped a fang every time he spawned, sometimes two fangs, and the necklace for the shaman quest. He dropped the sword once, and nothing else the whole time. And watch out for mobs near him, they're all very very agressive. Hope that helps =).
