There are 2 types of guardians. One is a ghost and has the negative faction when killed. The other is a skeleton and *does not* give any negative faction when killed. Camping for the howling stones key and i'm concerned with vs faction.

Figured this might help anyone else that is worried about it.

55 Paladin looking to solo this place... I am going to attempt it with a few gate potions. I need the key to HS so looking for the quest item.

Shouldn't need gate potions, though you did post this a long tiome ago, so maybe at the time you did. I soloed the temple at 55 in April 04 with no problems. Just bring KEI and virtue.

Mobs in Libary

I would safely say that there is around 10-15 mobs in and around the Libary. It is not too difficult to get to but it is quite easy to pull a small train (3 or 4 mobs). I am a 54 Wizard. A 45 Cleric, a 45 Druid, and myself were down there getting loot when the druid pulled a small train and then the druid paniced and started running around trying to get away from the mobs and ended up pulling the whole place on our heads. I consider the Libary to be a far more difficult corpse run than the church.

If you intend to try to go solo down there, be very careful of the room AFTER you pass through the wall. You can slip by alot of places, but the room after the invisible wall sometimes has live and undead mobs in it at the same time and the way the room is made you cannot see around the corner to tell what is there until you are in aggro range. So Invis to Undead and Invis both basically become useless and you have to fight your way through. If you are fully clothed and happen to be solo doing this may not be too bad... but try doing it naked and trying to get your corpse back. I had to once...

How Many Monsters in the Libary please ?

I would like to go and do some +wis item upgrading and would like the spirit tome I am a lvl 46 druid could i do the room solo ?

How many mobs between the start and the libary also would help me ?

The shield of spectral essense definitely drops off of the plain ole spectral guardians, I have hunted in Kaesora for a long time and many hours and have looted one myself. Probably 1 in 1,000 will drop the shield.

Rare drops off shadow type mobs here can consist of (in order of obtainability)

dusty ransackers pack 8 slot 25% reducing 0.4weight holds medium items
tombcarver - 5 17 rogue piercer? couple stats... i forget
deathwatch blade - 16dmg dunno delay 10ac 2hs?
shield of spectral essence sk necro only buncha stats.

dont bother camping here for these rares... these rares are RARE, meaning probably take weeks of your time to get the item you wanted.

The pack is about a 20% weight reduction bag. Not really in line with the dificulty ( Not of the mob, but getting to him. ). IMHO.

He DOES NOT drop the dagger of frost. Thats the strathbone runelord. Tough ass room to get to and hold, the runlord is a very uncommon spawn with Place holders.

Supposed to drop the Spectral shield (a rare shield) Anyone know if this is in fact the mob that does??
