About a month ago, i grouped with a monk in FM when i was around lvl 27 and won a Loop on the second Giant the monk pulled...

I resumed playing my iksar SHM 2 days ago, and today, at 31, I was meding in the Forest Giant fort in WW when a halfling cleric (conning red to me) trains a Giant on me and asks me to kill him, which i promptly do, and loot a Forest Loop :)

I also looted a giant Tree Flayer, a Leg Chopper, a Hammer of Flattening and several gems, runes, words which sold for 125 plats...

Lucky indeed.. Although I've gotten about 5 forest loops in my time in WW, I've also rerolled 4 times and gone through them again and again... Then when I'm to high to hunt them for xp, I did it just for fun... Anyways, yes the loop is a rare drop, drop ratio is something like 1 in 100. If you're camping the WW giant camp for a forest loop, my advise is you wait til you can have the whole camp to yourself, and are high enough to take out the entire camp. If you're wanting one in a hurry, don't bother camping, just go buy one, I believe the price dropped to about 300pp recently.
Just my 2cp =)

i know secret. if you hear a rumble sound then one of the giants spawned with a loop
Loops, loops, loops, where r the loops?
# Apr 01 2002 at 9:13 AM Rating: Default
I've spent about 15 hours in the fort, both in groups and solo. I would say that I've killed a little over 300 giants. In that time I've seen 3 loops drop, 2 of which i got. All in all I would say that for every 100 giants a loop droped, yes they're rare, but you'll get one eventually.

hope it helps --

Anyone else enjoy beating on these guys because they look like Michael Stipe?!?!

I have been soloing the fort since Lv26 (iskar monk)

I pull to the wall near Cabilis, and if you get the right spot you can fear/instill and the run straight for the wall.

Allowing you to beat on without fear of agro! :)

I hate you. Of course as a Shadow Knight, that is my job. ;)
2 Characters killing FGs and HGs for about 20 combined levels and I have never even seen a Loop drop for my group or while solo. I have reached the bottom of Kromdul faction twice and not one loop.

Just in case you were thinking about dashing in here, grabbing a loop and running back to OT for the rest of your day...

Yes, Lucky You! I too have soloed as a Druid and grouped to kill over 400 (yes, I've kept count...I'm a nerd, what can I say) FG's from this fort and not one bloody Forest Loop.

I am with you there. I have hunted these things from a time when they conned even to me. I have killed the entire fort prob about 30x and never ever once seen one of these drop for me.

Out of spite I wipe the entire fort when ever I am in the area, and still to date not a one.

Those of you that get them in a few kills. Count your blessings, luck is on your side.

I hate you !
Could a lvl 23 Rogue get a group in WW ir maybe even solo so
# Oct 31 2001 at 12:29 AM Rating: Decent
Could a lvl 23 Rogue get a group in WW ir maybe even solo some of the lwer ones? Right now I'm in SK fighting Aviaks, but They dont drop anything but gems, and that dam charm(Already have one). Its good money, but I want some Loops, and I dont think I'll have the cash anytime soon. So, could a lvl 23 Rogue solo some of the lower ones without too much downtime, or get a group at the fortress?

How RARE is the Forest Loop drop?
# Oct 29 2001 at 3:39 AM Rating: Default
I just dinged 29 (Druid), and am very poor now from buying my new spells. Yet I still want to work on upgrading my equipment, so I decided to go camp the 3 spawn giant hut north of the fort. I did evergreens for about 4 hours tonight. Very easy, doing the root/dot stack/med thing (you do not need to harmony them) there is almost no down time. No loops dropped of course. Most of them are still low blue to me, so XP is a nice compensation for this, because the only other option is to just port for a week in order to make money to buy them. The giants seem to drop anywhere from 2pp to 10cp, with about 1 out of 4 dropping a evergreen ivy ringband, I never saw anything else. My question is, how often do these specific giants drop the Forest Loops? I had read on here that this location seemed to have a better drop rate than the fort. Is this accurate? Anyone have any rough figures on the %. In a day or so these guys will most likely be giving me green xp, so I would just like to know if I am wasting my time, and would be better off just saving up and buying the loops at a later date.

# Jul 20 2001 at 8:02 PM Rating: Default
I've been soloing with my druid here since lvl 20. I'm 22 now. I've spent 3 days now killing these things. Trying to avoid evergreens, a few con yellow, the red ones resist my snares. Well I've killed well over 50+. Mostly Greenwoods. Haven't really expected to get a loop either. I never am lucky enough for anything to drop. I sometimes even get 2 copper off evergreens. Well Today I was hunting and about my 4th hour playing today a high lvl 30+ toon comes in and kills one sapling and gets the loop and leaves. It makes me sick that I've killed prolly 70 of these things and have got 3 weapons and she kills 1 sapling and gets a loop.
Easy Kills
# Jul 15 2001 at 7:47 PM Rating: Decent
These guys are very easy, if you take em on 1 at a time. I've been soloing there for the last 4 levels. In fact, I did levels 26 and 27 in about 6 hrs of game time, soloing.

Pushovers for a druid!! Even a weak red con is doable!! Make sure you are fully buffed and full mana first. Then you snare, DOT (creeping crud), kite & dd for a bit (save some mana though) cast dmg shield on yourself, melee. Reapply snare if needed and maybe one more creeping crud (you did save some mana right). You can take yellow & reds this way with anywhere from one to four bubs of life and none to 1 1/2 bubs mana. At least that was the case with me and my wisdom is only 117, armor is mostly rawhide with a couple of nicer pieces. In other words I an no where near a being a Twink ;-) so most any druid 24+ lvl can do this!! P.S. I know DOT's are not 100% effective if you are running from a MOB but even at 66% effect creeping crud is almost as mana efficent as your DD careless lightning. It's good to be doing constant damage to a MOB while it chases you and you are also blasing it. Plus with my above stratagy you should end up engaging the MOB b4 the first DOT wears off so it will be slightly more effecient that a careless lightning. If you end up casting the second creeping crud it will be 100% effective as you will be meleeing at this point and/or the MOB will be trying to run :-). The above stratagy also works at lower lvls in illomen fighting sarnaks & gobs that are weak red & yellow. The difference is you will have to use stinging swarm untill you get creeping crud and if you are below 19 you will have to use ignite instead of carless lighting. I was able to get xp much faster soloing this way than grouping. You should still group though to build friendships for later uber MOBS and for those nasty places where solo is just not possible :-) Well that's my 10 plats worth. Good luck and good hunting

Theese guys are mean, but from what they drop they are great for a group. The following is what i have seen in 2 lvls of killing them.

Forest Loop (mine)
Forest Giant Hammer
Leg-Chopper

thats all i have seen, if I see more i will update.
I kind of doubt it
# Aug 27 2001 at 4:39 PM Rating: Decent
Are you sure it was from the evergreens?....I have seen nothing but rare gems(ie black pearl) and that stupid Ivy Ringband (which is on every single one or these guys) on evergreens. Greenwoods on the other hand drop everything listed here. Im not just flaming you and making up some nonsense either. I have killed over 500 giants and have looted all of the different weapons (I have never looted a lumberjack cap off of the warslik woods giants), and 5 forest loops off of the greenwoods. On the other hand saplings and these guys carry none of the sought after loot. I only killed these guys for XP and to clear them so a greenwood would spawn.

A group went there for the first time last night. At first we loaded up on tanks...3 tanks, a cleric, an enchanter and a necro. We all thought that these things were going to be tough as hell. Turned out that these things are easier than the Sarnak Fortress in Ill Omen! At the very end, me (the cleric) a warrior and an enchanter were taking these things down with ease.

I think the exp was great in this fort. They dropped up to 4pp for some of us, and a Giant Tree Flayer. Also as I was gating out last night, a shout was heard through the zone that someone just looted a Forest Loop, and we was kiting giants in the fort.

We were all around level 24-25, so I think a group of players around 22 or so, properly balanced, could take this place.

Got a 1hb weapon off an evergreen 10/35 all/all
This thing is about 4 feet long when equipped, looks like a giant sledgehammer with a couple of curved spikes coming off it. IT makes the hammer of flattening look like a judges gavel! Its called a giant something, can't recall offhand.

We had a lil giant killin party and every one of us walked away with the hammer, but next time I saw most the people I was with they just trashed it cause by the time you can get this thing you probably got something better...mine is collecting dust in the bank if it wasn't no drop I'd give it to a lvl 1 shaman or something..also seeing a lot of mages walking around with them since anyone can use it.

Camped these yesterday afternoon for about 6 hours. Got 3 weapons and 1 forest loop. I do think we were lucky to get the loop in about 100 kills. I think the forest loops are more common on the higher level forest giant camps in other zones. Btw, we got ours off an evergreen.

For anyone that wants a loop head to FM or to the giants in the DL. These drop the loops more often. I have won 4 in the FM now. I have been told they drop more often in hte DL. I am just getting close enough in lvl to confirm this now.

RE: Forest Loop
# Oct 23 2000 at 5:04 AM Rating: Default
I believe he is trying to say that the harder giants in Frontier Mountains (FM) and the Dreadlands (DL) drop the forest loop more often. Yes, 1kpp is about right (more like the minimum, really). AC, wis, dex, and agi all in a single ear-slot item -- nice for anyone, but great for wis casters, and I'm sure you've noticed there are a lot of druids in the world. Combine that with how rare this sucker is (it took me over a level to get two of these -- wanted them for a cleric friend who refuses to go to Kunark) and voila! It's expensive.
