About a month ago, i grouped with a monk in FM when i was around lvl 27 and won a Loop on the second Giant the monk pulled...

I resumed playing my iksar SHM 2 days ago, and today, at 31, I was meding in the Forest Giant fort in WW when a halfling cleric (conning red to me) trains a Giant on me and asks me to kill him, which i promptly do, and loot a Forest Loop :)

I also looted a giant Tree Flayer, a Leg Chopper, a Hammer of Flattening and several gems, runes, words which sold for 125 plats...

Lucky indeed.. Although I've gotten about 5 forest loops in my time in WW, I've also rerolled 4 times and gone through them again and again... Then when I'm to high to hunt them for xp, I did it just for fun... Anyways, yes the loop is a rare drop, drop ratio is something like 1 in 100. If you're camping the WW giant camp for a forest loop, my advise is you wait til you can have the whole camp to yourself, and are high enough to take out the entire camp. If you're wanting one in a hurry, don't bother camping, just go buy one, I believe the price dropped to about 300pp recently.
Just my 2cp =)

I've spent about 15 hours in the fort, both in groups and solo. I would say that I've killed a little over 300 giants. In that time I've seen 3 loops drop, 2 of which i got. All in all I would say that for every 100 giants a loop droped, yes they're rare, but you'll get one eventually.

hope it helps --

Could a lvl 23 Rogue get a group in WW ir maybe even solo some of the lwer ones? Right now I'm in SK fighting Aviaks, but They dont drop anything but gems, and that dam charm(Already have one). Its good money, but I want some Loops, and I dont think I'll have the cash anytime soon. So, could a lvl 23 Rogue solo some of the lower ones without too much downtime, or get a group at the fortress?

How RARE is the Forest Loop drop?
# Oct 29 2001 at 3:39 AM Rating: Default
I just dinged 29 (Druid), and am very poor now from buying my new spells. Yet I still want to work on upgrading my equipment, so I decided to go camp the 3 spawn giant hut north of the fort. I did evergreens for about 4 hours tonight. Very easy, doing the root/dot stack/med thing (you do not need to harmony them) there is almost no down time. No loops dropped of course. Most of them are still low blue to me, so XP is a nice compensation for this, because the only other option is to just port for a week in order to make money to buy them. The giants seem to drop anywhere from 2pp to 10cp, with about 1 out of 4 dropping a evergreen ivy ringband, I never saw anything else. My question is, how often do these specific giants drop the Forest Loops? I had read on here that this location seemed to have a better drop rate than the fort. Is this accurate? Anyone have any rough figures on the %. In a day or so these guys will most likely be giving me green xp, so I would just like to know if I am wasting my time, and would be better off just saving up and buying the loops at a later date.

I've been soloing with my druid here since lvl 20. I'm 22 now. I've spent 3 days now killing these things. Trying to avoid evergreens, a few con yellow, the red ones resist my snares. Well I've killed well over 50+. Mostly Greenwoods. Haven't really expected to get a loop either. I never am lucky enough for anything to drop. I sometimes even get 2 copper off evergreens. Well Today I was hunting and about my 4th hour playing today a high lvl 30+ toon comes in and kills one sapling and gets the loop and leaves. It makes me sick that I've killed prolly 70 of these things and have got 3 weapons and she kills 1 sapling and gets a loop.

Pushovers for a druid!! Even a weak red con is doable!! Make sure you are fully buffed and full mana first. Then you snare, DOT (creeping crud), kite & dd for a bit (save some mana though) cast dmg shield on yourself, melee. Reapply snare if needed and maybe one more creeping crud (you did save some mana right). You can take yellow & reds this way with anywhere from one to four bubs of life and none to 1 1/2 bubs mana. At least that was the case with me and my wisdom is only 117, armor is mostly rawhide with a couple of nicer pieces. In other words I an no where near a being a Twink ;-) so most any druid 24+ lvl can do this!! P.S. I know DOT's are not 100% effective if you are running from a MOB but even at 66% effect creeping crud is almost as mana efficent as your DD careless lightning. It's good to be doing constant damage to a MOB while it chases you and you are also blasing it. Plus with my above stratagy you should end up engaging the MOB b4 the first DOT wears off so it will be slightly more effecient that a careless lightning. If you end up casting the second creeping crud it will be 100% effective as you will be meleeing at this point and/or the MOB will be trying to run :-). The above stratagy also works at lower lvls in illomen fighting sarnaks & gobs that are weak red & yellow. The difference is you will have to use stinging swarm untill you get creeping crud and if you are below 19 you will have to use ignite instead of carless lighting. I was able to get xp much faster soloing this way than grouping. You should still group though to build friendships for later uber MOBS and for those nasty places where solo is just not possible :-) Well that's my 10 plats worth. Good luck and good hunting

Are you sure it was from the evergreens?....I have seen nothing but rare gems(ie black pearl) and that stupid Ivy Ringband (which is on every single one or these guys) on evergreens. Greenwoods on the other hand drop everything listed here. Im not just flaming you and making up some nonsense either. I have killed over 500 giants and have looted all of the different weapons (I have never looted a lumberjack cap off of the warslik woods giants), and 5 forest loops off of the greenwoods. On the other hand saplings and these guys carry none of the sought after loot. I only killed these guys for XP and to clear them so a greenwood would spawn.

A group went there for the first time last night. At first we loaded up on tanks...3 tanks, a cleric, an enchanter and a necro. We all thought that these things were going to be tough as hell. Turned out that these things are easier than the Sarnak Fortress in Ill Omen! At the very end, me (the cleric) a warrior and an enchanter were taking these things down with ease.

I think the exp was great in this fort. They dropped up to 4pp for some of us, and a Giant Tree Flayer. Also as I was gating out last night, a shout was heard through the zone that someone just looted a Forest Loop, and we was kiting giants in the fort.

We were all around level 24-25, so I think a group of players around 22 or so, properly balanced, could take this place.

I believe he is trying to say that the harder giants in Frontier Mountains (FM) and the Dreadlands (DL) drop the forest loop more often. Yes, 1kpp is about right (more like the minimum, really). AC, wis, dex, and agi all in a single ear-slot item -- nice for anyone, but great for wis casters, and I'm sure you've noticed there are a lot of druids in the world. Combine that with how rare this sucker is (it took me over a level to get two of these -- wanted them for a cleric friend who refuses to go to Kunark) and voila! It's expensive.

OK, here's the scoop on the loop. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but I've never heard of a loop dropping off any giant in Warsliks besides the greenwoods. I've killed roughly 400-500 of these clowns and only gotten one Forest Loop, and that was off a greenwood. I've gotten some nice gems off the evergreens, and they often drop better than 3 plat. To be honest, I've lived in this camp since level 22 and I'm level 29 now - they're GREAT xp, but I'm thinking of moving on and just saving up to buy another loop(, I'm tired of this camp.

I levelled here from I think 28 to 32, and I am a druid. Level 30 was heaven here! Simply fight the evergreens at the guarded entrance. snare one, run the other until out of the others range, it forgets about you (usually) so you only have to contend with one at a time. Things to watch out for are the wandering goblins and the occasional wandering greenwoods and saplings. two giants hitting you at a time is not fun.

RE: level is wrong
# Nov 13 2000 at 12:05 PM Rating: Default
The level of the evergreens seems about right. Some of them are still blue to me at 34. It sure is nice being able to solo these things as a ranger, even without full gear (I'm doing this on Rallos Zek).

I use Harmony when there are two guarding the gate - it works quite well here. I'll stand off to the side, and cast Harmony on the one further away from me, then pull the other with Stinging Swarm or an arrow.

There have been times where I've had to escape when a wandering goblin decides to help the giant. Since I usually snare early on, I can easily outrun the giant, and deal with the goblin once safely out of the giant's range.

1% is probably about right, I've been fighting in there for about a week and killed roughly 150 giants and got 2 loops so far.

Let me refer you to Webster's to look up the word RANDOM again. It does not mean that you kill 100 giants and poof you get a loop.

I think you were just unlucky, keep trying, they are there.

These guys fight better than their con so watch it. I have fought these guys from level 22 to 30 and plan on staying till 35. My druid friend still fights them at 35 and gets the exp from them. So pretty good spot to hunt just overly crowded for the rare forest loop. I have only found 3 in all this time due to the influx of lvl 50+ toons that show up. forest loop drops from greenwoods and upwards , most weapon drop from lower giants(saplings, greenwoods, giants).
been there for 8 hours straight and i have never seen an evergreen with a weapon.
party of 5 high teens with 2 healers can camp the whole fort
while mid 20s can solo well in there cause the giants are mainly fixed spawns and if you keep their numbers low they will only wander along the road

Considering these guys are only mid-20s, and drop earrings worth about 2k, I wouldn't complain much about their rarity. Killing 70 giants and not getting a loop is nothing, people have killed 400-500 and gotten only one, maybe even none. No other mob in the 20s (and I say that with absolute certainty) drops anything worth 2000p...so be glad they drop at all.

Never seen a Loop drop off of Evergreens, just the Greenwoods...pretty good exp though. Evergreens are cake to me at 27 (shaman) as long as I don't get alot of resists. I pull with Slow, root, DoT, DoT and med. Cannidance in between.
When Root breaks I melee and reDoT with Envemoned Breath..after that they're toast. It helps that I have 622 AC unbuffed (yes I'm twinked, so don't ask)so meleeing isn't a problem for me even as an Iksar. And who said Iksars can't be a BattleShaman ?

Druids can kite the Evergreens and Greenwoods, you can try harmony and pull the guards at that exit, or go inside and pull the higher-level (in my opinion) ones. There should be no problem kiting, except for an occasional extra giant on you or a goblin witchdoctor, etc. Just watch out where you're kiting.

Got one last night, stats were 10/41, not the 10/21 listed above.

They don't wander around in packs, but they occassionally cross paths. There's a large fort in the middle of Warsliks Woods. They are concentrated in the fort, with guards at one of the exits to the fort (just giants, not Iksar guards) and giants also roam around the fort outside.

At 29, most greenwooods conned green, had an occassional blue. All evergreens were blue at 29, still blue at 30. Greenwoods all appear to be green at 30, although I may find a rare blue one.

Looted Leg Chopper the other night, my god, the sword is huge. Well, it looks huge on the giants, anyway. Take a look here...http://astro.temple.edu/~fmoffat/img/giantsword.jpg

You have to realize I'm standing WAY up the hill from the giant's feet. Sword sold for 30 something pp. Weapons are pretty rare, never gotten a forest loop yet, but I have gotten a few gems, rings and amulets that sell for around 10pp. Not bad.

All the giants spawn with a chance to have a weapon. I've gotten the hammer off a sapling.

If you see a giant with a sword KILL IT!! It will either drop a very rare sword with nice stats or a leg chopper that sells to merchants for a nice 32 plat.

Leg choppers can sell as high as 54 with 105 charisma.

I hunted these last night and never got anything cept those trash necklaces. The hammer of flattening comes off the greenwoods, not the evergreens (Mine did, and about everyone else's did). Forest loops come off Greenwoods, and these guys are always red to my level 23, but I can still cast on them, so I'd say their maximum level 29.

#Ssator, Posted: May 16 2000 at 11:15 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) The level range is 23-27 not 26 ;-)

Another Rare drop is the Forest Loop, an earring with 2 ac +3 Dex, +3 Agi, and +3 Wis that also drops off of greenwoods. Also Leg-Chopper, and giant grub digger, two other two handers.
I'd say low to high 20"s...

These guys are blue to red to me at 23. Common drop is a + 1 STA necklace that is no-drop. Rare drop is a Tree Flayer(2hs,10 dam,21 del) and another sword of similar stats. After 4 hours of camping, one of them dropped a black pearl!
#Esch, Posted: May 08 2000 at 10:38 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) They con blue to yellow to me at 25
