Would be nice if they gave these guys, on rare occasion the rabid or diseased bear pelts... about the same level range, and you are doing something GOOD without risk of Holy kicking your butt. I mean your a ranger, and your first day out, your encouraged to kill bears.... and then slaughted. This would be a nice way to have a fun twist on the bear pelt and wolf pelt quest. (i saw someone said they had a LQ bear pelt)

i started killing these poachers with my ranger at lvl 11. i killed them no prob, mostly because of being a twink with high ac, but i still missed alot, even with max slashing skill at lvl 14-15 i dont think i got more than 1 hit, per poacher, that was my max. just a thing to keep in mind when fighting the poachers.
kill the buggers!

As a lower level ranger I remember checking track everytime I went into the glades and jumping at any chance to kill the poachers. Even as a lvl 41 ranger I still kill them if I ever find one in the caves, I mean, that's what ranger are really for anyway
just saying

In surefall there are 2 kinds of poachers. One is called "a poacher" and another is "Poacher". A poacher is a lower level than Poacher, just FYI.

Unless Verant changed things I always found Poacher an easier kill than "a poacher". Gnoll Poacher was a trivial kill, about on par with the Poachers in Toxxulia (whose heads also work well for the quest).

One caveat about killing poachers and turning in their heads. I turned in at least a hundred poacher heads in my younger days and now the Circle of Unseen Hands wants to kill me on sight. The heads and turning in all those gnoll fangs in Qeynos (instead of turning a few more in at Halas) did that. I've been killing Karana Bandits like mad but the faction boosts you get from each kill are miniscule. Oh well, at least the money from the bandit sashes is a nice bonus.

The human poacher conned white to my LVL 6 Ranger, and proceeded to kick me right out of the cave.

The poachers conned green to my level ten Monk..
They don't hit like a green con. I managed to take one with two bubbles of health left, not an overly difficult fight, but a tough one nonetheless.
Here's the problem. Yeah, ya get a Poachers head which you turn in for Xp, faction and two gold. I DID get some Xp from the poacher despite the fact that he was a green con.
But if you hang around Qeynos alot? Which I do.. The faction hits aren't worth it.
I like Druids and Rangers, there's a few in my guild, I group with them occasionally. But I'd rather keep my faction with the Corrupt Gaurds of Qeynos and Kane Bayle AND the Circle of Unseen Hands relatively indifferent than get my faction with the residents of Surefall Glade and the Jagged Pine Treefolk and all those folks UP when they're already amiable.
If you're not a Druid or a Ranger, make a choice.. Be KOS with corrupt gaurds.. Be a personal favorite of the Surefall glade folks.
I'll stick to hunting Thugs and Smugs in the Catacombs, they're easier to find, easier to kill, the Xp is just as good, and there are NO faction hits.

Poacher Dell in Toxxulia Forest cons blue to my level 6 shadowknight and doesn't put up much of a fight. He drops a Poacher's Head that weighs 1 stone and killing him gives the following faction adjustments:
+: KaranaResidents, GuardsofQeynos, HighpassGuards, CircleOfUnseenHands
-: KaranaBandits

I didn't get a chance to con Poacher Willa (same zone) but it would seem she's about the same level as Dell. Faction adjustments for killing her are the same.

These are good XP until LVL 16. Dont try to solo before LVL 10. Poachers drop Poacher Head take this to the 1st guy you see in building in center of lake. You fill get XP some gold and faction adjustments. If you are not a ranger or druid life can be very difficult in the caves behind the waterfall. Named bear (mammoth) will agro any non ranger/druid in caves and if you run from him all NPCs in glade will go agro on you.
