For an idea of their HPs, I randomly killed 10 of these from all over the zone. One on one, strictly melee damage, went as follows:

1 - 1158
2 - 1219
3 - 1097
4 - 1124
5 - 1099
6 - 1096
7 - 1111
8 - 1185
9 - 1193
10 - 1154

So they have on average 1140 HPs, give or take depending upon level and buffs.

These guys shouldn't make you worry at all. I started to hunt in LOIO in my early 20s and have never aggroed these spiders because I would run along the left mountain side from FV to the stream into LOIO. They are usually not that high up along the zone line. Good luck and safe travels!

Since I tuned LVL 17 in Oasis, I decided to explore some new places... I went to FV, where I've been before with another char, and I knew these damn spiders were Dangerous... With my LVL 17 Beastlord, a far travveler from Halas, my destination was Kurns tower in FoB... (I heard about the good leveling oppertunities there, and I agree its Damn better than LOIO) Anyway... It's a damn lung run, and the next zone Swamp of no hope is not a pushover at that LVL either, But I have made a Huge Number uf runs from WW to FV and and back, but only lost my life once by these spiders... Now I am at LVL 28, and havn't had a single problem with them... Still, my pulse go sky high everytime I cross the landscape of FV... Most of the time I've mede it throug without SoW, but I reccomend having a SoW on ya... And I also Recommend Hunting in FoB and WW instead of LOIO ... I have Gained a new level every day i played EQ, and still doing massive XP... My tip... Take the long run, and just go for it... I head Back to FV everytime im to Loaded with stuff, and i get around 30 pp every run... And Almosts everytime I go back I visit the Beastlord Trainer... Leveling has been great, and I'm starting to like these spiders... I'm gonna try solo them as soon as i turn 30 and get my own SoW spell...

These things puzzle me. Im 22 war and have lost 3 yellow attempting a corpse run. When I first started going to LOIO, I indeed steered very clear of these things. They all conned red and ready to attack. One day, one walks right through me when I wasnt paying enough attention.

I thought that very interesting, of course the next time and the 4 or 5 times after that I was mauled to death

Count yourself VERY lucky then that it glitched when it crossed. I had the same thing happen with a risen commander in Kithicor (the pet got me a few seconds later though). Every know and again you'll get a little micro glitch and some of them will be to your favor like that

This seems to be an issue of lag... your computer thinks the NPC is still walking, and crosses your path when in fact it has stopped walking, or already crossed your path. On the server I believe you would have never come within their agro range; it's just that it looks like you did to you.
When you go LD a similar thing happens... you can wander around, and all the creatures stand still. Of course you're LD, so in actuallity you have no clue what's going on.

I started ging to LOIO at lvl 18. The first time I got there, I went LD (@#$%in FV lag) I logged back on and found myself zoned into the midst of about 5 drachnids! Needles to say, I died pretty quick. I went on to lvl til 24 getiing killed by these things almost EVERY time I went to sell and bank.(I 'm a War) Well I left that place swearing my revenge on these evil creatures. Now the Time has come. I will go there and mindlessly slaughter ths tings until I get bored (AKa bout 5 mins) and will give safe passage to n00bs who need it.

What ones see invis?
# Feb 26 2002 at 11:40 PM Rating: Default
I was doing a CR to LOIO for a friend and i got camo and sow from a ranger friend. I noticed a drachnid real close and i just ran straight over him( very close to guards in case it attacked) and it did nothing. So i felt safe and then a silkspinner began to cast a spell. It hit me for 15(whoopde doo!) but i lost camo and soon i was running for my life(or my friends life) from around 3-4 spiders behind me. I died (of course vah shir warrior lvl 22, now 21 hehe). So i was wondering if anyone knew the exact names of the drachs who see invisible.

New Idea
# Feb 19 2002 at 8:46 PM Rating: Default
I came up with a strategy on how to outrun SoW speed running creatures. It's really very simple, all you have to do is have sow on you. If anything that runs sow speed aggro's on you, if it gets into melee range and is chasing you, hit the spacebar for a distance boost. If they run faster than sow, you might need spirit of the scaled wolf, also, snaring or speed-debuffing it might work. NOTE: This is NOT tested, so im not sure how fast these things run.

I don't get why everyone is so scared of dracnids! I have been hunting in LOIO for 4 levels now (i'm currently lvl 20) and never died to one of these. Why you ask? 1 becaust they have NO reaction radius at all, 2. because they're mega slow, and 3. they arent that hard to spot. A way to get around em? Just watch out for em and if your really scared get a sow.
RE: Drachnids
# Feb 26 2002 at 11:14 PM Rating: Default
Mega slow?!?! WTF? These things can run faster than sows, see invisible(some species) and itd prolly take a 40+ bard selo with MM drums to outrun these things! A better bet is to go on the opposite side of the river(goin into LOIO) and stay as high up on the zone line as possible. They hardly ever go up here and if they do, your already far enough to outrun them to the zone by the time they see you. Just make sure when you cross the river you watch out for Vekis...

Mokkano is very right. I tried the standard to sow fleeing method of jumping for distance boost to get to the guards. No such luck... they would catch up the instant I landed. And they hit hard as hell too

Yesterday was headin back to LoIO after killing the Lady Drixie for my Dreadscale Mask quest. I've been back and forth here several times without ever having an encounter w/ these guys before. I was SoWed and the sucker kept hitting me, then i got rooted so i decided i had no choice at this point but to fight him off. He DoTed me and cast some DD spell after that and was down to 2 bubble of life in like 1 minute when 2 more decided to join the fray. Make this story short THANK GOD FEAR WORKED or i would have been one dead lizard. BTW all 3 conned even to me (lvl 30 SK)

I've heard countless horror stories about the spider alley during my time in LoIO (from 18 to 28) and the only time I had a drachnid attack me, I was 27 and it conned blue by then.

It's no big deal. Just hit F9 to get an overhead camera, adjust the height and angle a bit and you have a much larger field of view. Also crank up those speakers....the audio cues will help evade those that come up from behind.

Just keep your eyes and ears open. You don't necessarily need to run straight through. Weave your away around the spiders' paths. Stop and let them walk past. Put those 15-year-old Frogger skills to use.

I had been running through FV since level 20, and the only problem I had was that one time with Vekis... Anyways, At level 30 I was running through unsowed with num lock on, and I bumped into one of these drachnids. They dot and nuke and beat for a lot and I went down faster than a boxer taking a dive ;^). I learned the hard way what their aggro range is, it's not very big so you can easily avoid them if you pay attention.

Level 20 ranger, just got to Kunark/FV for the first time. Me, 20 wizard, 18 ranger decide to stroll up to the Lake for a quick look around.
About 2 steps past the second statue, 2 drachnids approach.
Gwindor says "Wow, cool spiders!"
A drachnid silklurker hits Gwindor for 52
Gwindor says "Crap, run!"
A drachnid silklurker begins to cast a spell
Wizard says "I thought this was safe zone for us?"

LOADING....PLEASE WAIT

Now, I am a 35 Ranger and I have been regularly soloing these guys on and off since 32. The key to killing them is 1) stay out of poison casting range; their roots are weak and ignite (37 dd) is the best I've yet been hit for; against trueshot with a good sow/snare combo, they don't stand a chance 2) pull down to the shore in front of the access tunnel where Scout Bowfist and his doggy Dune hang out; if you get into trouble, go down the tunnel and, assuming you can take a couple more hits, he should jump on the spider; be careful to pull the spider into the tunnel, there is a bug that allows the spider to hit you from above the tunnel preventing scout bowfist from helping you out 3) if you're kiting, keep your distance: these guys have a much larger range of melee attack than i'm used to fighting against 4) be prepared to die every now and again; i took like 12 in a row monday and then fought one that made me look like a little girl (all blues that i pull); if he gets his dot (stinging swarm, i think it's 120 pt over 2 minutes or something like that) and a good poison dose in you, root and cure or he's got you.
It's not the easiest thing I've ever killed for exp but these things are fun to kill and they give one of the best challenges I've yet gotten from a blue mob in solo contest. These guys see invis (not sure which of the drachnids, just one class sees invis; not rogue sneak, just casted invisibility), thorn and buff themselves, root and dot. I never fight these guys without cancel magic, cure poison, and root (snare is a given for a ranger in battle imho) very handy.
Remember, elves: killing these guys is a service to everyone crossing the zone to Lake of Ill Omen.

So, This is the scourge of Firona Vie? Spiders? Bah! You soft skins are so pathetic. I've seen 31 cycles so far and all the while I've heard of the 'dreaded drachnids'. You quake and tremble at these? By the god's you will be easy to conquer. I just came from your precious outpost and ran into these pests on my way back. The biggest problem that I had was scraping them off of my boot! Several times they poisoned me and I didn't even realize it until it wore off. As an Iksar I am amused at how the 'great' races of Norrath run from such tiny vermin. As a warrior I laugh at those running for the lake screaming "HELP ME HELP ME!" I plan on killing these bugs until I can benifit no more from then. Until then you lighties should be happy to have a safer zone.

Everyone had me completely petrified of drachs and all their kinds. I've been fighting in LOIO since lev 16 and whenever I died I was scared ****less of having to navigate the way back. Not once did I get attacked. Just recently at lev 26 I got caught. A drach silklurker cas...my mind panicked. It was night and my infra sucks. I ran straight towards the zone. I had a pretty far run(the drach hit me a couple secs away from the ikky statue). It hit me with some kind of poison along the way. I zoned into LOIO amazed that I was alive. I sat down and let the poison run its course. Considering those things were supposed to kill me with one hit I was surprised to see I still had a bub of health on me. I scrolled up and checked...the drach only hit me for 50. Thats only a little worse then a sarnack dragoon. huh...stupid friends

What a funny thing. Me and the Pally just ran from FV to Lake of Ill Omen, and just avoided them and weaved around. I hid whenever we stopped, but we just moved through, for the most part. We had no idea these things were that nasty. But I did notice my hide button go off at one point. I think they _do_ see invis.

And here I thought we were just walking past big spiders, like in Butcherblock. Why would they aggro on us?

# Jul 12 2001 at 5:44 AM Rating: Decent
I on my way back to the lake after emptying my encumbered body of some coin went up the river route to the Lake Of Omen. I zoomed out a little to get the "bigger" picture so I could see more of what was around me as I have been killed by these spiders 2 times now. I almost had a 3rd death. I was almost to the zone when I see a drachnid right behind me, it poisoned me, hit me in the 70's many times (i have over 500hp) and then my Paladin stopped running, and started walking, the poison had just ran out as I was nearing the zone, I was hoping to make it. Then I had less than 100hp left... I got ready to use Lay On Hands as it was still beating me. Then I had about 60hp left, then it said "you have been hit for 75", and at the next line in the chat window, it said "LOADING PLS WAIT", and I made it to the lake, I was alive! It was weird, my body was in the position of which it looked like it was just hit, and paused at that position for about 20 seconds till I zoned. But I lived. One day I'll get these spiders back

These things killed me twice when I was lower level trying to get to LoIO. Well now the tables have turned. At level 28 I started hunting these things. Yeah the cast alot and can really hash out some damage but with a good group they fall really quick. We started hunting them (28 pally (me), 28 druid, 30 shammy, 30 warrior) and it was a piece of cake. We had the warrior pull to the beach. Once it arrived the warrior and I tanked em while the casters hit em with cancel magic to remove the buffs. Once that was done the druid would barely have time to get off a nuke before they dropped. Not good loot but nice EXP and plenty of these suckers around to kill. Also helps the low levels get to LoIO if there are no Drachnids arond hehehehehehe

Uber literally translates from German as: Super (in German, Superman is Uberman).
It originated from the Nazi supremacy fantasy.
RE: Looks good.
# Aug 21 2001 at 10:07 AM Rating: Default
yeah "uber" must be right below the top on comon EQ words right below: PC, WTS and Port (zone abvreviations dont count to me) i think i should compile a list of the top 10 or so most comon EQ words whatcha think? My mom speaks/spoke german for a while (she isnt german she took it is colloge) and she told me Uber meant "over" but i think super makes more sense (not that it has anything to do with dracs) so to keep it on topic i will say the: "THESE MUTHERF***S SCARE THE LIVING S*** OUTOF ME I HATE HATE HATE EM, I WANNA KILL EM ALL ALL DRACS EVERYWHERE MUST DIE!!!" ok there (that is true BTW i am lucky enought to never have died (prolly becuase i am a pussie and always get an escort) but they still freak me out) also wich ones see supirior camo and one more thin; live from new york it's saturday night(JK) i actually wanted to ask why supirior camo wears out most of the time after 2 or 3 minutes (my divinations skill is low is that is (85 ish divination) i use divine alot so i wonder why it is low) and is 153 wis good for a 22 druid?

Invis spell and crossing FV zone

Currently I am a lvl 19 mage. When Vereant changed the spell component for pets from lapis lazuli to malachite, I was in LOIO w/o any malachite. I thought that I would just go back to FV and pick up some more malachite and get rid of some copper and silver. Everyone told me I would be fine if I used invis on myself. A couple of the drachnids conned indifferant to me, but then another type (silklurker, I think) came over a hill and immediatly attacked me. Are there types that can see invis? Is there any safe route to FV until my faction is high enough to go to Cabilis?

I, a 20th Druid, was running from the town to Lake of Ill with a friend, 20th Ranger, and we ran through an area with about 10 of these mixed with other Drachnid types. They all conned red and "ready to attack" so we were very carefull not to come to close. We both had SOW so we weren't too scared, but while trying to avoid a running Goblin Plaguebringer I backed into them and found myself very close to them, melee range. But they didn't aggro on me. Just walked by, even when I sat down to memorize a spell, I heard one walk by and it didn't aggro. Now, was I just lucky, or is it because people say they are Druids and I'm a Druid? My Ranger friend didn't get bothered either, but I don't know if he got as close as I did. The only other MOB I've run accross that was red to me and "ready to attack," but didn't was a deepwater crocodile of Oasis of Marr (no longer red of course). I'm certainly not complaining, but I'm wondering if anyone else can share this experience, and if I can trust it to stay that way?

Also..."a Goblin Plaguebringer" needs to be added to the list. Red to Level 20 as is everything in FV. If I knew the level range, I would submit it. I assume around 30 with the other Goblins.

BTW - We witnessed Sir Hobble get wasted by these drachnids in seconds, a level 30 NPC.

I was told that with SoW (I couldn't get invis...wish I could, then I woulda been fine), if you are careful you can make it no prob...and if they see you, just run. Well, I was chased by 3 of these and they CAUGHT ME!!! Some things that are being thought right this instance:
1) NO..I wasn't encumbered.
2) NO..I kept resisting the grasping roots
3) Yes I ran in a straight line for the guards

Just a piece of advice for you guys around my level (25)...be very very careful...or pay someone good pp for invis. Don't even need SoW if you have invis. I arrived in the area from LOIO, in full health, and carefully ran towards the guards. BAMN! got stunned (I think one spawned near me) and then got aggroed by 2 more. By the time I was about 5 secs from the guards, I had to LoH. By the time I got to the guards (got rooted at one point after LoH), and the guards took FOREVER to kill the 3, I had less than 2 bubs of health left.
So please, I beg of you...be careful.

They don't spawn that close to theguards. You must have done SOMEthing to "call down the thunder." Get a group and hunt the damn things. You higerh than me (I 28 Pally) and I've been hunting them since lvl 25. They have crap loot, but decent XP...i would magine even at 30 the eblurkers give decent XP. Anyway, they are allied with Mistmoore..and youARE a paladin....fighitng evil IS your obligationg.

I wonder if the lvl range is a bit larger. When I turned 25 I went to FV to take the boat and conned several. I got one blue, severla blacks and a lot of yellow. Non eof the Drachnids listed should con blue(or black for that matter)

Yes, that is odd. They scowl at me, same race/class. And we can ONLY worship Brell, so it couldn't be diety...perhaps you have managed to adjust your faction?

I was running through Kaladim and saw a dwarf being PLed by a wood elf druid and he was fighting the bard there as you come into the shop section of the city before the warriors arena. Was it you? Personally I'm ready to go beat the snot out of any drachnid whatever me and my group come across. Happy hunting all!!!

Mob dropping from above

You might just have seen the pop of mobs. In open area zones the seem to drop straight from heaven. Encountered that in other open areas, too (WC, Everfrost, Qeynos Hills, etc.).

No he doesn't it's a spawn point someyimes they appear that way. In Toxx forest everything sits a couple feet off the ground for 10 seconds before wandering off.

I swear these things can walk through the treetops. I had a group in FV and we'd pull one. Up until we'd pull, there would be none in sight on anyside of us. Once we'd pull, 2 secs later 3 of the bastards would fall out of the sky on us. I've seen them well up in the trees before, but this may have just been lag ghosting. But then again, these things are spiders, having them drop out of the trees is not too far fetched, especially on Kunark where the pathing and world detail is so much more advanced.

To repeat what Fenyear said: be careful about letting one of these get away. Had an all caster group in hte low 30's fighting on hte beach, and since I was higherst (35 wiz) and had the best sheild spells, I was pulling. We were doing fine until I tagged one, and got too far from it too fast. It didn't follow, and we forgot about it. 10-15 minutes later, it attacks me while medding. No biggie, we think, it finally showed up, and we kill it. Sit down to med, another one attacks me...ok, we kill that one too. Sit down...you guessed it, another shows up. By now we are all oom, and I figure the whole danged forest is aggroed on me. So I get a little away from our camp (no sow), and let them finish me off to save the group. I was entirely oom, couldn't even gate at that point. They have a long memory, and tell all their friends...
Easy caster kills
# Jul 13 2000 at 6:35 AM Rating: Decent
My wiz started soloing these at 31, they are a fairly easy kill for casters, if you are careful too make sure another isn't too close to the one you attack. They are casters, and tend not to melee you so much, but they will try. So I just root and nuke. They were a challenge at 31, and I am still soling at 35 when not grouped...now they are easy blues.
These guys arn't ya friend

These things will rip ya to pieces if you are a lower lv heading out to Ill omen...my suggestion is to get invis or camo9invis will last longer) and turn on the burns to get to the lake as fast as ya can.

there are actually 3 types of drachnids in FV, the spinner(lowest), the lurker and the strander(highest). Web and Silk are indications of sex, web being male. All are capable of druidic spells (including grasping roots) so it is a good idea to keep cancel magic and sow ready. Drops include urticating hairs, spider silk, drachnid leg tip ( a nice weapon that looks like a sword floating in front of them), and spider silk sac. Rarer drops include gems and jewelry. Typical coinage ranges from less than a gold to over 4 plat. A 35 druid can carefully pull one down to the beach and then kite it easily. However, if you cant kill them and have to run, bring them with you to the guards or they will go back to their spawning grounds and make all the others aggro on you when you return. Recommend camping or zoning when this happens.
