Most of these cubs die from 16 dmg but yesterday I met a cub that took 56 dmg before it died!! I dbl checked and it was a cub.
You are confusing the pups (level 1) with the cubs (level 2-4). The cubs will have a lot more hit points than the pups will.
Another person talked about a yellow con at level 4, that was almost certainly from a scaled wolf (not a pup or cub). They all look the same, so you have to check the names of them to notice the differences.

The level of these guys might be off slightly as I am level 4 and one of the cubs conned yellow to me. Still an easy kill though.
