As a 37 beast wandering through the cave killing mostly greens and the odd light blue, I was not prepared for this red con fellow.

I was killing warriors for my cultural armor quest. I lasted about five steps down the hallway and was then compost for the goblins to feast on.

At least I could summon my corpse to the guild lobby... LoIO not a corpse run I would have wanted to do back in the day.

I was just wondering here.... how is it that we can't equip anything at all if it isn't allowed for our class/race/religion or whatever, when it is plain to see that NON of the NPC's or Mobs have to follow the same rule?

Take this guy. He's a Shaman with a pet, carrying a staff that says it works for Warriors only. I'd love to hear the explanation for WHY these can use these things and yet we can't.

Seems to me this is just plain bad coding or thinking on verant's part. If you want ppl to not complain all the time, STOP letting the MOBs bend the rules while we are ruled under the iron thumb. If you are going to apply something to us, then please, restrict the mobs to the same rules!

Originally was going to look for rare mobs like the Sarnak Courier. etc. I am at that level now I want to see more of the game. 49th seson druid. I got curios about tunnels on map.

I kill a few of the guys here and there. I turn on Tracking, I see he is the only blue, with a pet. I notice a lot of them have a fair amount of hitpoints for their level. After A few I decide its a bad idea to use all my mana killing lows, then bump into this guy.

So, I put camo up at 60% mana and find him. I walk, sit, walk, sit. He makes rounds near the center of tunnels buffing guys.

I get a moment away I recast SoW and Stack Chloroplast with my SLN... I decide to pull at about 75% mana. I root him, pet comes in, root pet. Angle myself to DOT both. Drifting death, Calcification. I also use the Elder Spirit arms. He was not too tough, but I can see him being problematic. I knew he would root, so long as I kept him and his pet rooted as well. nuked me for 220 or so. Dotted me a few. I got an add, warlord. Lord Gorelik actually used a lot of casts to heal his pet. Pet dropped. He Eventually dropped. A lot of HP. looted staff, gated out before warlord dropped. Was very LOM.

just so everyone knows the staff is/was visible. He was not too touch. Quite a bit didt stick... good luck all.

My Favorite EQ Memory

1 post
I haven't played EQ in about a year. Once I got my ogre SK to level 20, I couldn't shake the feeling of same ol', same ol'.

Anyway, right before quitting, I teamed up with four others who were about my level to clear out the goblin caves. (For an ogre, I had an unnatural fondness for small spaces. I loved Guk too.) We had a moderately challenging time dealing with the blue cons until we found I nice open spot (an alcove or something) for pulling. I was the tank, so off I wandered.

Bad idea, as I'm a really crappy player--I quickly got lost and wandered for about 20 minutes, spotting red cons around corners everywhere. I somehow made it back to the party, but in the process I'd lost my pet. "Skellllllly! Here, Skelly! C'mere, boy!" I yelled as I summoned him to return to me, figuring that he could home in on my signal even in a maze.

Bad idea #2: Skelly did come to me but brought the Big Bad with him. Worse, the bastid reached THRU THE FRIGGIN' WALL and killed the cleric with one stroke. None of us had seen what happened, as the cleric was standing behind us in the alcove--we just noticed that her health bubs had suddenly vanished, turn to look at her, and see her corpse.

Of course, a second later, my SK turns back to the hallway and barely has time to see this goblin gorilla dressed like the Chiquita Banana dancer before I'm instantly dead. Lucky for the rest of the party that I'd died first, because the Big Bad can't walk thru dead ogres as easily as thru walls--they all lived to tell the tale, while I had to die to do so.

After a few hours, I got my corpse back and then decided that I'd had it with EQ--many, many hours of sleep lost with nothing to show for it. I still miss my SK, but I'll someday revive him in an RPG.

I was running through the tunnel with my 51 shaman with pet up and see a goblin charging me down the hall. I figure "a soothsayer" at first glance and paid it no mind. Suddenly my pet all but stops attacking before i relize what was going on this goblin turns to me and hits me with every dot he's got. Having only had up ebolt i let it fly and charged into melee. (yes a shaman can fight!) He conned dark blue so i figure "smack him around a bit and back off" didnt exactly turn out that way. This guy loves to root. He rooted me 4 times durin that fight. I went in at 3/4 power and ended up oom after taking blows from the staff as well as his dots and pet. The little sucker rooted me and ran off with my pet right behind him, killed him on the entire other side of the tunnel system. Finally found him and took my reward.

Took him down tonight with 30m to spare. med till fom, cast wolform, spikecoat, sln, my 5 resists and str. med again to fom, cast regen, ds, and invis and went in. Snare, Ice, starfire, starfire starfire... dead. He hit me once melee for 77, I resisted ALL his spells and his stoping to cast gave me plenty of time to cast starfire. Buffed, all my resists were like 70-90. Never saw his pet but his pet dies with 1 DD vs summonded practically. Waited till he was in the back of the mine to snare so there werent any adds. Got my newbie warior a 2hb weap =)

went to tunels to kill gobs tonight, and as i was running amuck killing everything in sight i caught this guy in my view, so i snared him adn moved in to melee (i am 51 SK ). This guy starts out double hitting me for 93, which might have been ok if i had been a little more prepared, but i wasnt , so i fear his butt and run after him. Now i hit in the 130's average and i hit with around 40 dly all told, still only took this guy to half before i was at half with two adds and a pet while he continued to run.... So i went to a safe room and FDed.
but this guy is tough cookie as far aas i am concerned. Oh and one other thing, it is an important note that he casted scourge on me, that is a pretty nasty DoT... anyway after running away i began bandage after being FDed a while and forgot that wanderrers dont return to any bind so he never lost aggro, shouldve /q but i didnt and he got me :P so i end up in cab sucking the soul binder and wonderring if i might put a little more thought into my policy of attacking blues in close quaters :P

saw him sitting at one of those tables eating some cake, so i walked up and said. Hail lord gorelik might i have that nifty stick you have there in those green hands. he laughed and replyed, you must pry it from my warm dead hands. i say No Prob! and began smashin his head in. about half fight, he pauses and says, Wait! my cake! i laughed, grabbed his cake crammed it down his throat. he begins to choke uncontrolably, i figure what the hell and chop his head off. he layed there twitchin abit as i slowly snapped his fingers back and removed his stick. walking happily outta his stink hole of a home. i see a cpl of his buddys, aka warlords blockin my exit. i roar at them GET outta my way or the same fate that befell your master shall fall upon you! the shock and disbeleif is their goblin green eyes made me wonder why gorelik was so easy.

I was working with a pretty good group and I, being a Ranger, was the puller. I was level 21, now 20 when I found him. I snuck around a courner right into his big nasty goblin arms. He and a hord of other goblins killed me before I knew what was going on, then ran all throught the mines(picking up friends) looking for the rest of my group.

Saw this guy up with the staff last night and figured I'd take a chance, I'm a 44 mage. I summoned and buffed up an earth pet send it in, it killed off it's pet fairly quickly but the fight took quite awhile on the lord, he has so much HP. I ended up chain casting 3-4 pets and nuking with shock of swords twice for 600+ dmg each. I'm just lucky the spells hit for full because by the time I killed him I was down to 40% HP and my pet was down to 50% HP while I was OOM. Tough fight but it was worth it, got a free mithril staff for my lvl 31 warrior. Just too bad his 2HB is at 0, heh.

I was a 46 Mage when I kiled him. Easy. The lord did not even kill my water pet. I hit him with about 1900 points of damage (multiple casts), DS on the pet also. Got 1 add and the gob's pet, but my pet killed them before I could cast. I thought it was pretty easy, but duh, I was higher than him. My 20 Warrior alt now has the same staff with the same 2HB skill =/.

When i was still around lv 25ish i was hunting at the gobbie caves here in a pretty good group. I (being the uber puller that i am) was single pulling the warlords that pop just near the entrance, our group was getting insane xp. Then things went horribly wrong, i went in a little deeper to pull one of the gobs right at the end of the first corridor cause the ones at the ent were taking way too long to spawn and all i saw was "Lord Gorelik hits you for 95 damage" I screamed LORD INC to my group hoping they would run to safety, but they stayed and tried to save my sorry trollish arse. Big mistake. This guy started hitting 110s over and over and then the coup de gras he let loose on the 3 tanks with a 2 wave 154 damage poison AoE spell. AH THE PAIN! Our necro FDed and got wasted by the goddamn AoE so after all was said and done the only thing that we got was LOADING... PLEASE WAIT

Had all my resist stuff up and my normal hunting stat buffs, ect. went in the mines invis lookin for em, when i found him just hit em with a nice chubby dispell to drop his buffs out and then have em chase you out of the mine, with my resist buffs up all his stuff skipped off me and i malaized, rooted, and quad dotted his butt, then dropped in a chubby nuke and he was runnin like a nancy. Didnt even use my pet. VERY easy kill at 47 compared to some other, similar lvl mobs.

Just killed this guy yesterday for a nice midlevel 2hb weapon for my sexy warrior. This guy is cake. I'm a level 54 Druid so apparently thats what kept the goblins from assisting their precious Lord - a goblin stood right near him and even tho I rooted and dotted the Lord he didn't come to help. His pet got stuck somewhere so it took it a minute to come help, missed most of the time. One round of Breath of Ro and Winged Death killed this Lord. I tracked him down and rooted as soon as I could, didn't really plan my attack on him as he's pretty fast and patrols around the caverns. Pretty easy if you use Druid root-snare-dot method. The lord was blue to me - must have been somewhere in the low 40s.

Well 49th level druid so this guy should be easy. Ran in invis, got far enough away so I could root twice if it did not stick. His pet was luckily in a side chamber and could not get at me. Rooted him, slapped on Drifting death and 4 starfires later (612 damage I think it was, just went LD so cant check log), dead gobby, he only cast on me three times, and for verrry minimal damage. Never even encountered the pet. The staff was visible so I guess that is a way to tell if he has it. Anyway, was nerve wracking being that far in (in and to the right). I see no reason why a well organized group couldn't take him out. Be well, have fun, and no I dont "Got SoW" :)

I specifically tracked him down today and found him a fairly easy quarry. He circles around a fairly random path within the mines, so its difficult to choose a spot with which to prepare.

I sent in my pet initially, making sure both the Lord and his pet aggroed on it. I then cast Ignite Blood, Splurt and Bond of Death. As my pet soaked the damage I used Pact of Shadow to keep him alive.

I found it a good idea to use Screaming Terror on the pet and this seemed to reduce the damage my pet was taking to a controllable level. The only problem I encountered was that the Lord's drowsey spell significantly slows your pet's attack so I was relieved to have initially triple dotted, the Lord lasted less than two minutes with this approach.

Once he was dead, the pet posed no problems. He seems relatively easy, there are common mobs in the Dreadlands who are significantly harder than this guy.

My 47 pally nearly got wacked by him today, friggen adds kept me from Helm Healing to 100% and wasted 70M of mana keeping root up...*sigh*. Killed him in the end when a 27 rogue guildee helped, hehe, you'd be suprized how useful he was, got a 107BS that cancelled his last Gheal, that if he got it off woulda finished me. Now if i went at him FoM and FoH i shoulda been able to solo him, got the Mith Staff. Hope I can grab some $ for it.

I went to group in gob mines when I was lvl 21. I didn't know he was in there until peoples were sayin 'Watch out in case Lord so-and-so spawns!' So needless to say, I was severely freaked when he spawned, with his puppy dog, right in front of us. The group necro ran off with the Lord trailin him, after he had killed 2 group members and reduced the remaining three (me, and 2 besides necro) to less than a bub of health. The Cleric, who was behind me whilest we all 3 hauled ass the opposite direction, got aggroed by the little puppy-dog. She started screamin, and surprisingly enough, with about 30hp left to both our names, we BEAT THE SHE-IT OUT OF THAT DUMB DOG! Then, on the way to the FM zoneline, we got aggroed by 4 diff mobs...which killed another group member...The cleric and I high-tailed it after the 4th death...and, guess who was waiting for us @ the zoneline? none other than DEEP, the biatch fish lady who hides in the lake. That took the cleric out, along with everyone else @ the zoneline, but ME. To this day I cant figure out how I lived thro that massacre....creepy...*shudders*
everyone else in group got de-leveled btw. :(

As a 53 shaman, this guy was no problem (that's to be expected of course). I cast plague, 2ebolts, and 1 blast of poison. He died before plague and the 2nd ebolt ran out, meaning he was dead in under 2min. If they both had run out, the damage would be close to 3.5k HP. So I'm thinking he has closer to 2.5k HP.

Today i was hunting with a group of 4 others in these goblin caves in a group of 21-25 (me being the only 25) and we accidentally pulled his wolf up. it conned yellow, so me and the main tank ran down to try to pull him out and see if we could take him. We pulled him out with 2 other warlords, and he proceeded to hit us for dbl 93s and 67s. our cleric ran out of mana quickly, but before he slaughtered our whole group, we got him down to about 1cm of hp left. im damn suprised to find out hes level 40, cuz my group almost killed him. He had used the mithril staff to knock my block off.

He was simple. I guess mobs lose thier pets too, cause when I faught him he just appeared around the corner. I sent earth pet in.
Goreliks pet showed up when he was about 3/4 health. I nuked 2 pet was around 3/4 so I sat down.
Couple of things:
1) I cleared out every single Goblin I found. I didnt get any adds at all.

2) At no time did the pet nor Gorelik aggro on me. Really important for a mage.

The tunnel is significantly more dangerous on the LOIO side than it is on the Warsliks side, even if you don't count Lord Gorelik. If you're trying to get to the Field of Bone form Lake of Ill omen, easier way to do it is to zone into Firiona Vie, then head to Swamp of No Hope (zones at either the NE or NW corners of the zone) then head to Field of Bone through a little twisty valley north of the bandit camp. The entrance to this valley is at aprox +3200, -500 in the Swamp. The mobs you'll encounter on this route are much lower than the ones you'll meet heading through the tunnel. Plus, it's a lot simpler, going through the tunnel you have to go through annoying and confusing mazes on both sides. An even faster an easier way, if you're on good terms with us iksar, is to simply go through the long valley northeast of the lake, enter West Cabilis, head over to east Cabilis and then enter FOB through the tunnel behind the shaman/SK guild. Of course, you're probably heading to FOB to get on good terms with the iksar, I'd imagine.

We go down again thinking that Uber cleric can keep us alive so we can kill it and i can get the Mitherl Staff he may have.(The 2nd blunt wich is heavy but can dish out nice crits.)We find him, he kills us both again and almost killed the Cleric. The said cleric then had to call for the aid of a lvl 60 warrior to help us claim our corpses . I am a lvl 39 troll warrior... untwinked (unheard of nowadays, i know). well i have been lvl'ing like a crazy fool and decided to get together with some guildies and do something fun and new to celebrate getting lvl 39. i went with 2 guildies... a 46 monk and a 41 necro. all decently equipped for our lvl, but nothing flashy. we ran around them damn caves for about half an hour before we finally turned a corner to find this ugly bum staring at us. only buffs we had were necro buffs. spirit armor and possibly one other... as soon as we saw him, we jumped him. i took the taunt and held it for most of the fight. got pretty beat on with the hits in the 90's, but i backed away for a minute and slapped a band aid on before jumping back in to finish him. He has a crap load of hp, but his spells are weak. we had no adds, and his puppy got smacked hard after we dropped the gob. I was at about 1 bub of health and the monk and necro were close to full after all was said and done. being the only warrior, i was fortunate enough to loot this staff. now i just have to work my 2hb up from 10 or so. ;P any recomendations on a quick 2hb to raise skill quickly?

doh, forgot this... by being prepared i mean, all at full health, and necro at FM... being a big arse troll with an unwavering desire to kill everthing that moves helps too ;P we killed every gobbie in sight before finding him, reducing the chance of adds. some buffs woulda been nice, but as shown here, not completely necessary. good luck if you choose to take him down. btw: this was my first lvl 40 mob killed.... ever ) he holds a special place in my heart, or rather at the end of my sword =D

Why this shaman has a warrior only weapon? who knows, I killed a quest triggered MOB once who was duel-weilding a lore club.

Just wanna say that this guy is toast. I want the staff very badly for my gnome warrior, she doesn't have a good 2 hand blunt.

Think a 52 enchanter, 54 cleric and 50 warrior would have any trouble? :)

Can you say, open a can of soup with a steamroller? hahaha

I'm a 51 Necromancer. i just logged off 5 minutes ago after finding him. hold right wall once you enter the cave and you will run into him soon. he isnt deep in like i thought he is so when i walked in to get some faction i didnt think anything of it... didnt have mana either cause it was just put pet on somthing and wait a sec - i had 30 mana but didnt think i needed it. I walk down and round the corner comes the lord but i didnt know it till i saw spams of 87, i only got hit with 87 having low ass AC it shouldnt go much higher. he is a major miss con because he wasted my pet in no time and my spellz were doing zip since i only had mana for a few.

if your a caster his pet is an issue it does hurt and will interrupt. fear is supposed to kill pets when you cast it on them and it wears off but it didnt this time and it kept comin back - maybe thats cause its a wolf maybe not.

alittle food for thought
#Anonymous, Posted: Jul 05 2001 at 3:21 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) he's actually really easy, it's just that you suck at playing a necro and you don't know how to play your class. i killed him solo, me being a lvl 40 necro and he was a piece of cake because i have better ac then you plus i knew i needed fm to kill him, you just don't walk up to cazic thule with 30m, you dumb newbie

your a retard he didnt go into the tunnels to kill the lord he went in to kill for faction meaning low 20 mobs not to go try and kill the lord so if you could read right you would know that you stuipid newb

and if he didnt know how to play a necro then how did he get up higher than you

I'm a level 51 shammy. I went in there thinking i was some kinda bad azz to help a friends on a CR. Well, he went LD and I waited for him at spot. I saw this bugger and asked what level he was, came back as 45. So I tuna'd, hasted, and buffed (thank goodness). I saw him come around and pulled him with slow.... well, to make a long story short, he darn near emptied the can of woop butt on me, good thing my dog killed the other 4 warriors and aggressors off me, I was 1/2 bub of life left when my dog jumped in and finished this ass clown for me. Got the Mith staff. One thing I wanna know..... why is this a warrior only weapon and he was blugdening me with it? :)

He killed a 53 Druid friend of mine he has Semi high MR i was trying to kill his pet while the druid had rooted it root Broke and it Resisted eveyrtihng and i didnt last long being a low lvl

He doesn't have a high MR, that's a lie. I came close to getting him, at 45. Rooted both him and the pet, then killed the pet first with banish summoned. After that I started DDing him and he was down to one third approximately but his DDs had considerably lowered me, so I decided to play it safe and ran.
No way a level 53 druid should have been killed, unless he really lacks any sKILLz o d00m

how rare is the drop? no one ever answered that question
everything...
# Apr 17 2001 at 12:11 PM Rating: Default
ok, ofcourse u know he is level 40, he hits for 97, with or without his staff, and he has about
4-5k HP. if you have the right people, killing him is easy, and dont let him sneak up behind you, theres no point. go find a dead end room at one of the bottom floors, sit in it and watch down the hall. in a minute he will come runin down the hall with sow and his pet, root the pet b4 it gets close and bring the Lord into your room and slaughter it. no other greenies will come help unless you are a fool runing around the whole cave. his spawn rate is like the chancelor's, 2 hours and his uncommon loot is the staff...thats it!
Easy for a mage...

This guy was easy for me as a lvl 52 magician. I was on my way to Warsliks woods from lake and it bumped into me. Well, i hurridely got Banish summoned * BTW I allready had an earth pet out )
and nuked the pet 2 times for its death, while my pet was tanking the lord. I threw a BUNCH of 600 dd nukes on it, about 4 and let pet finish it off. ALAS...there was no staff, he gave me 5 ****** gp :) He does hurt, nearly hits for 100 so be careful. One saving grace was each time he was agroed onto me, he would just cast a drowsy/ tagors insenct spell which I ALWAYS resist.
well, im done rambling, good luck you all :)

I'm a Tard. If he has staff you can see it equipped.

Hits for 97.

Killed him tonight (26 Jan 01), no staff. When he has the staff he hits for 97. Without he was hitting for 81.

Not sure of respawn rate. Thinking 2 hours.

Its better to not pnder over that question as it will eventually explode your brain. After all if that little gnome in North freeport can backstab my 40 monk for 169 damage with no weapon, why cant a shaman use a warrior only staff.

The Cleaving Tooth Clan has a fantastic cross-training facility that enables members of any class to use another class' weapons and abilities. I highly recommend it for all of your Goblin characters. The course now also covers, "Creative Pathing: Revenge Through Misdirection", which was formerly a separate instructional period, at no added expense.

Can he sing and tap and act? Is he a Triple-Threat? I warrant I have never seen any Goblin at Juliard. "NPC's can do anything." pah!
