I found at least one spawn cycle for "a fat alligator" in Innothule Swamp. The zone map name is "innothuleb" when typing /who while in the zone.
8 second respawn cycle, 4 mob types:
- a fat alligator
- a bull alligator
- a fungus spore
- a froglok forager
To start the cycle, I found that the cycle mobs will eventually path north/south from the POK book, and sometimes will pause just past the first tree south of the little peninsula that the POK book is on. So I hang around that tree and get any of the mobs that spawn above, until I see another mob spawn on the cycle roughly 8 seconds later.
I have seen them spawn all over the northern part of the zone past the POK book but I have never let them roam around to see if there is one single set roaming path. Also I don't know for sure if there's another cycle maybe with different placeholders, but at least this is one I found. The longest streak I had was 4 x "a fat alligator" spawn in a row back-to-back in the cycle, but it's still quite rare in general.
There are lots of NPCs in the zone fighting each other so sometimes it messes up timing for your tracking. Using a ranger with long distance tracking and enabing the auto-track checkbox, plus hitting the tracking button slightly after 8 seconds of you defeating the previous mob, can help to narrow it down and avoid getting confused with an NPC-slain respawn not on the cycle.
Thanks for the comment from Sythik just below this one for some clues as to where to find it, and other comments by people on the quest pages that use "Alligator Skin"
