I have just been killing these again after a bit of a break. Now they are dropping Coyote skulls as are Gorge Hounds. The Coyote skull is a magic item with no stats. Any idea what it is for. I have hailed the immediate NPCs and no response.

I've never had trouble soloing the dark stalkers. At level 20 shaman, I go after dark stalkers, gorge hounds, or crag spiders, whatever I can find. I still stay away from griffawns (bad, bad experiences in NK), and I'll go for the gnolls only if they are not grouped tightly. At 20, EK gives a great variety of mobs that can provide exp. Nice zone.

I has come to my attention that verant has put hidden factions in the game recently. I found out by sheer chance and luck. I am a lvl 19 wizard and was playing tonite, in East Karana, I noticed that everything was scowly to me when I'm trying to get to 20 so badly. I finally wanted to kill my character it got so bad when I fell into a nice group. Later a few minutes before I was going to log it rained. I ran to the zone through the bridge to kill a griffawn, but there were none and then went back I became indifferent. Note when I came through I came upon a Dark Stalker I bombed it died I became scowly to the following. Low lvl 5 silvermists, Low lvl 8-9 lions(ess), 10-15 lion(ess) patriachs, the bandits which reside there also. I was not KOS to Spiders, Snakes, and Evil Eye's. I need a positive check on another server to verify this. If so Verant has made the game 10x's more difficult. I am a wizard named Kitarn on the Drinal Server. I know this must be a hidden faction since I'm 19 and everything switched. Also note after killing the Dark Stalker all resistance rates went up. Also note that this is important for people soloing there and that kill a Dark Stalker. If this is a know bug please let me know. I doubt verant won't change it. I died nearly 30 times at lvl 19 because of this which I did not know. Please warn and broadcast this to others if it holds true.

I have a similar story with the creatures in East Karana. Appearantly there are some wierd alliances there.
I was an 18th level Druid and was hunting Gnoll and Undead Reavers with 2 rangers in East Karana. We were in the middle of a battle with 2 Undead Reavers when a couple of War Wolves joined in. I had never conned a War Wolf before, so I didn't know if it scowled at me like Gorge Hounds and Dark Stalkers, or was amiable like other wolves. Since it was green and attacked me, I figured he must be allies with the gnolls. Since I have been fighting Gorge Hounds, I attacked it. (As a Druid, I still kill animals that are willing to attack me first.) As soon as I attacked it, a silvermist wolf attacked me. WTF! Silvermist wolves are amiable to me as a Druid, all of them. I didn't want to kill the silvermist wolf mostly for RP reasons, but also I didn't know if I would take faction hits, and niether did the Rangers, so I zoned. All 3 wolves followed me, so the Rangers were able to finish the fight with the Reavers. So, the War Wolves assisted the Reavers, and the Silvermist Wolves assisted the War Wolves. Wierd!
I also read a post where a Druid charmed a Gorge Hound to kill a crag spider, and a Lion attacked the Hound. After the charm wore off, all 3 ran for the Druid, but the lion continued to attack the hound and left him to finish off the spider.

To perhaps clear up any confusion, consider the Death Beetles in Unrest. No faction per se, but they just like to join fights. just my 2cp's worth.
these are not factions , it it just social aggro certain mobs will help certain other mobs , you can kill a million death beetles in unrest and they will never attack on sight unless you are fighting

Long time no see! It would be great if you could clarify this post. I've read a few places recently about zones (Karanas, Surefall Glade) where killing an X will make all X's hate you, and I've been trying to understand how. If faction was associated that would do it (i.e. if you lost faction with LionsOfThePlains whenever you killed one), but I don't think this is the case. So another explanation would be if there is some sort of unstated faction as you suggest. Since I've always heard this was true, your post actually potentially provides good news: are you suggesting that this hidden faction hit was cleared when you zoned and came back? That would be good to know...

If you can take out a Gorge Hound, don't think twice about taking on one of these. They hit the same, they go down the same, they're just bigger.

At level 19 (Monk) w/ full HP and mend reserve these things could kill me (or almost) about 50% of the time. They are not easy to take out.
