Camping, Farming, and Druids..
# Aug 17 2000 at 12:06 PM Rating: Decent
Very interesting comments. Some general stereotyping but overall very interesting. I am doing this quest now. I am a 35th Level Druid who has formed a guild that does NOTHING but help others. Food drives, assisting questers, fighting evil, save lives etc...we have 38 members in three months, our own Knighthood and we roleplay. But guess what. I farm. I make 1100PP a week by doing the necro shadowbound quest and selling the whole suit. I just recently upgraded all my equipment by camping the spawns myself that held the drops I wanted. Most of my money gets spent on the guild or for the items I really cant camp yet or dont know where to. But then after I upgraded all my equipment I sold my old stuff. SO I guess that would be farming too just with a few months of a time delay since I camped the spawns or bought it. Farming is economy. Economy is EQ. Helping others is very cool. Not all druids are asses like some. Its not the class its the people. There are a lot of morons on EQ. Ahh well. There are a lot of Kobolds and Orcs too. Just keep playing and enjoying yourself and try not to ruin someone elses enjoyment.

There is nothing wrong with camping the fungus mutant for the rings, even if you are just going to sell the paw for money. There are a lot of people in the game who have better things to do with their time then camp this mushroom for 24 hours, and would prefer to buy a paw from someone who doesn't mind camping it.

I used to camp Mitty when I had studying to do for school. It was something I could spend 2 minutes doing every half hour and still get a lot of work done in Real Life. The one thing to keep in mind if your doing a camp for an item you just don't need, is that you really should give up the camp to someone who needs the item if they ask for it. I would hand over the Mitty camp to anyone who asked for it and didn't already have a paw. If everyone would show the players some curtosy in this game we would all get along a lot better. And you wouldn't see so many derogatory posts about farmers.

Ya know, the fact that you can make good money isn't important. The fact is the quest should be do-able by someone who wishes to undertake it. I just killed Vin moltor for the paw case-I died twice trying. I will attempt the fungus and gynok in one or two levels, and probably die two or three times trying, but I will get the Paw by QUESTING. You higher level people who farm these things take away peoples chances of completing the quest because everythings always camped. And those that can JUST BARELY complete the quest can't afford to purchase the items, so because of you, we have to wait to purchase it at higher levels where it doesn't help us nearly as much as it was planned to. I hope EQ eventually implements changes to prevent you people from taking advantage ofthe game.

And what does this have do to with the fungus mutant? NOTHING!!!!!! WE DONT CARE ABOUT YOUR FARMING!!! I MAKE 2K IN 3 DAYS AT LVL 35!

# Sep 18 2000 at 12:00 PM Rating: Default
Yes, money can come easy at higher levels if you play smart, and people DO farm the rings for the paw quest. And that makes it difficult for people who really want the paw to obtain it without buying it. That makes it legit to talk about in this forum. So climb down off yourself Mr. I-make-2k-in-3-days. At level 30, I regularly make 1k in a 5-hour evening of play - but big deal. No one is impressed with people who make themselves feel big by making other people feel small.

I believe what this person is saying is that too many people who are not a Druid/Cleric/Shaman are camping this just to try and force us to pay an extreme amount of money for this item. So in short:

Camp what we need, we camp what you need.

I wonder if it would be better if it would help if many of the quest prizes were made "no drop." Then you wouldn't have any reason to camp for an item that you can't use/don't need.
RE: GREED Translation:
# Apr 08 2001 at 10:08 PM Rating: Default
I think that is an excellent idea. If hard to get items like the paw were no-drop it would certainly go a long way toward curbing camping, but I shudder to think what would become of the trading community... An alternative might be to have quest items drop extremely rarely on various mobs, instead of occasionally on only one.

Personnally, I think that would Work Very well, After all, If my Broom of Trilon or Shovel of Ponz wasnt No Drop, I would end up Like the people that camp this thing. By the way the people that "Farm" in the real world are called Communists ( That is no joke )

Wow... after reading all your posts I was almost afraid to even bother. But I did anyway. Walked in and found the area empty... Called out and found no one waiting invis... So I sat and medded up. The mutant popped about 5 minutes later. Killed it in short order, and lo and behold, Degenerated Guk Weed. Took all of seven minutes. Now before anyone gets upset, I spent about 20 or 25 hours camping mitty about 9 months ago. And gave up... never figuring to own the paw. Well, I just finished the quest! and now hold the wonderous prize.
By the Way, when you go to get your ring, Kerran Faction does not matter, I still got the ring with them looking at me apprehensively. So GOOD LUCK!

Isn't it sad that you have to worry about someone getting upset at you? You didn't KS the Weed, crowd anyone out of the area, farm the drop. You just got lucky. And maybe there will be those who get nasty about that. That's sad. Me, I'm happy for you.

I went into Befallen just to snoop, when i looked around near the entrance and there was this named dead mummy on the ground, no one was round so I tried to loot it, low and behold it had a platinum ring on it, i took it. after a little research i finally figured out what it was for. i guess i mitas well try the quest, the hard part is mostly over. :) .

This spawn is also horrible
# Jul 29 2000 at 12:46 PM Rating: Decent
Well, after reading passages of greed and anger, I've camped this spawn for over 74 hours with only the Copper Ring drop as a reward. I agree that the farming has gotten out of hand, but we all farm to an extent. Example, if nobody's in Permafrost I'll in turn run from Preacher to Alchemist until either I get the cape or I have to log. The anger I can also account for, 74 hours and no Gold Ring drop, now that's irritating. To maybe assist someone in need, on the Bristlebane server I am selling a Platinum Ring for the paw quest, if you're in need and have no time to camp, give me a tell, I'm a 39th Druid. I'll be happy to assist, price is of importance for I have to now buy the Gold Ring.
hmm

A druid that doesn't help another is sad, unless we hold a grudge against that person for whatever reason.. People are just a bit too selfish nowadays. I try to help whenever I can, unless its something I won't even be able to faze. I'll have to argue with your moral there, Mond.. my life means something, heh. Although I know that I'll never be able to keep everyone from killing wolves.

Sorry, but have comment on Druid Farmers
# Jul 28 2000 at 12:25 PM Rating: Decent
Seeing druids cry about Farming brings a smile to my Paladin face 8)
I was Upper Guk, one night scouting the Shin Lord for a Ghoulbane raid, when I came across a 48 Druid camping there, I asked if the Lord was to pop while there would he help me kill him for the GB -- his response was "I am camping the Ghoulbane and why would I won't to help you get it?" Doh!!! I'm a Paladin without a Ghoulbane who really would like to have it, just might have something to do with it.
He went on to say that he would sell it to me for only 1500 pp since I was there at the time. < nice guy >

Well while leaving the Shin Lord area which is right by the Fungus spawns, I witnessed this fight between a whirling druid and the Fungus Mutant -- while the crys for help were deafening and being a Paladin its my duty to help those in need -- I for once didn't help someone in need but not knowing for sure about the faction there, wasn't about to save a druid and become KOS yet in a place I have to deal with in future as I'm not sure I would be extended the same courtesy < haven't in the past by druids >

As for the 48 Druid he sat and watched the shouts for help -- guess he figured i'd try to KOS his Shin Lord < which I couldn't solo anyway > -- cause I never saw him or casts of any spells from him.

As I was heading out of Upper Guk, I saw an auction message for a Ghoulbane for sale - that's low < even for a Halfling >

Moral of the story -- A Druid's life means nothing with another Druid is farming.

#Anonymous, Posted: Sep 06 2000 at 8:16 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I'm sick of everyone saying druid this, druid that. We play the game like everyone else, and just like everyone else, we all have different personalitys. Sure we hate it when someone camps something that their class can't use, or when they lose a roll to an item they've been needing, but a class that won't use it wins. But people also camp what they can, so they can buy what they can't. Or some people camp these things for twinks. Personally, I don't camp anything that I don't need, unless I'm camping something with a guildmate, and I'm only there to lend another roll in hopes they we win it for them.

I hope I never have the misfortune of being in a group and having my life be in the hands of this Paladin. As far as farming goes, it always iritates me to see a person who can't even use the item sitting there farming it while someone who can use it has to stand by. Have some honor people, if your camping an item just for cash and someone who can actually use it comes along..leave.

Well, let me give you a scenario:

I was in SK one night.. when Sentry Alechin in werewolf form attacked me. Since I'm a level 35 druid, he was a relatively easy kill. He dropped a locket, which I looted. It was no drop.. and I asked in ooc what it was for. I subsequently found out that it was for the Paladin Ro armor quest. Since I couldn't just give the locket to my pally friend, I decided to do the quest myself and give her the armor.

Now what do you call that? Remember.. the werewolf attacked me ;)

I think that's ok. They are talking deliberately camping things just to sell. Like a fighter camping the GBS constantly. Az is camping it now just because I want him to get everything in the game at least 1 time just to say he did it. But he's not going to get it, sell it, camp again, sell it, etc, etc...........
oh, about the container
# Jul 12 2000 at 9:34 AM Rating: Decent
Vin Moltor is the guy with the container. He lives in the Qeynos sewers. The best way to get to him is through the sewer entrance right outside of Crow's Tavern.

I couldn't get the rat ear pie to work to save my life, so I just killed the guy. Root and nuke. not too hard.
I hate farmers!

I agree with Nwedar wholeheartedly.
If you are not going to use the ring DON'T CAMP THE MUTANT.
It makes me furious after camping this guy with no luck for 9 hours, to come to Lesser Faydark and see a gnome enchanter talking about what he bought with his "paw money" and then competing with my auction to buy the Gold Ring. The nerve!!

Some of these quests are hard and frustrating enough without seeing someone else competing with you who isn't even going to use the item.

well I don't see what's so bad a bout farming myself ppl. think about it! If more ppl do the quest just to sell the item, them there will be more items; Hence the price will go down and you can buy it cheap without doing the camping for hours on end! Supply and demand, Some ppl (like me 21 lvl paly) don't need the paw, but do need the money to buy other things (oh wurm you will be mine!). so I say let em farm and camp all they want! It makes what I want all the more less costly.
course it makes sense

I have done this quest twice now. I am a lvl 27 ranger and as a result of this, i own a pair of yaks and full ivy etched armor, and the cool thing is this is my only character, no high lvl characters twinked this guy out, just lotsa play time paid off
It makes complete sense
# Jul 09 2000 at 10:41 PM Rating: Good
That dizzying poison spell or whatever makes it harder for melee to bring down the mutant. If not harder, certainly makes it take a lot longer. Being a druid, I just root him, run out of range of the poison, and blast him to death. Easy enough.

By the way, I've met enough item farmers this past week while doing this part of the paw quest. I hate them. The people who camp the paw for money and shut out people who actually intend to use it are scum, plain and simple.

I am a level 35 ranger, this guy was green, nothing else would help, and i died. The crappiest thing is, this guy would cast this stupid stun spell over and over and over, and it would take half a second to cast, he could cast tons of it at a time, still attack while casting it, and get healed by others.

Would a Wood Elf Ranger be camping for the paw. Call me crazy, but unless you are a Druid or a Cleric, the paw is almost completely worthless. For the sake of those that are trying desperately to obtain the gold ring, don't campt for the rings unless you intend to use the paw.
