He finally appeared today at 12AM game time, as mentioned earlier. He was just south of the Permafrost entrance, walking North really slowly. Hailing him stops his walk. Unfortunately, he only dropped vendor fodder.

he seems to spawn round midnight gametime, had him on track with my ranger found him and quickly logged my rogue... his path seems to start at Everfrost Keep area and he makes a big circle either north by northwest to the close tower, then west over the river's to megan's tower to just west of the spell vender Starn, sits there for a few, then heads south to about halfway through the zone, then heads east cross the river to the Huge Giant Statue, then back north the Keep and disappears.... the next time he popped, he went the same path in reverse

Killed him but he didn't drop the Giant Sweiahander i was lookin for.... hope this helps some

The sword is not no trade. Killed him with 53 druid, looted the Gigantic Zweihander, put it in shared bank for later. Easy Kill

Been camping him for 5 days with my bard and wife's ranger. Never seen him. Not once. Killing everything the the zone doesn't help either. Since alot of the previous post contradict each other, I will post what happened when i find him. Marter Icebear has spawned several times. Left him alone and killed him both does nothing to bring Karg up. Followed Marter around and he just makes a big circle around the icy river.

Just killed him, conned green to my 52 ranger. dropped 4p9g6s7c and:
Pearl, Cloak of the Icebear, Two Handed Sword, A Gigantic Zweihander, and a Burned Out Lightstone. Time of kill 00:25 Eastern time 8-1-2007

Before you just destroy Karg or Martar, you should check the zone. See if anyone has been trying to do the quests.
I saw Karg once when I was level 15, and didn't have the pelt or the coin for the quest. I never managed to see him again, though I carried that pelt evertime I entered the zone.
I would see messages in OOC that {insert char name}so just killed him. Or that he was up and that would touch of a mad dash of people trying to kill him.
I've had Martar killed out from under me more times than I care to recount, by some KS'ing morons who wanted his cloak. They took his no drop kilt, just to look at it, just about every time.
The zone is mostly empty now. Now being Dec 9 2004. But give a shout out to the zone before you kill them. You may be saving someone an endless camp.

I once was hunting mammoths in everfrost and this guy ran up and proceeded to beat the snot out of me. Sensing death was iminent, I ran for the POK book, it being the only zone I could find in a rush.

Upon passing the guards standing near snowflake the guards rushed him and started shouting their standard "prepare to die!".

Obviously this NPC isn't meant to be friendly.

if you kill him who care? he does not ruin your facion with halas i killed him with a level 33 paly a 30 war and me a 23 druid we rolled for the cloak i wanted it but the war got it

i get this guy on track every time im in Everfrost, wonderd what he was for till now, im gonna get the gauntles and werewolf cloak for my monk, if u need help finding him on Povar server just send me a tell and i will come help u

I am realativly new to this game and its is fun i am on lany's server and yes he spawns at the north end of the zone right before you hit the river in back of some kind of temple thought you might find this usefull .

I'm a little bit surprised to hear someone saying they've spent weeks searching for Karg unsuccessfully. It seems like every time I hunt in or even pass through EF (to hunt or farm in permafrost) I see him and his bear at least once. How much time did you spend in the plains before leaving each time you tried to find him? I was just there about a week ago or so and saw him a few times while running around on the Firiona Vie server trying to find mammoth calves to kill. (I've also seen him on Vazaelle recently.) I usually see him running a sort of squirly diagonal path between Megan's usual hang out (north tower not far from snowflake), the hills near Snowflake, and the hills just across the ravine from Bandl. Try asking snowflake "where's megan?" and following it around. You'll probably run into Karg in the process. I have noticed, however, that EQ has an absolutely astonishing facility for making things very common when you're not looking for them, and darned near impossible to find when you are. It's almost super natural, as though it can somehow sense what you're looking for and hide it. The Zweihander is listed here in Allakhazam, it is an 18/39 2hs 10wt, rngr pal shad war. You can get a blackened alloy bastard sword off Lord Pickclaw or Battlelord Paluk in runnyeye. The same people can use it and it is 24/39 2hs +3 sv poison, 2.5wt. You can buy a BABS in EC on Vazaelle for around 200p. The other items Karg drops / gives quests for are also eclipsed by other better and easier to get items imo, just do a search on allakhazam or caster's realm (or your favorite eq database) for the race class slot and stat.

I have been looking for Karg quite unsuccessfully for almost 4 weeks now, with no luck at all. I have hired trackers and had guildmates look for him. I have looked at all times of day both in real world and EQ time. When I send out a shout most people respond they have never seen him and think the quest is broken. I have petitioned Gm's and they can't give me any info either.
HAS ANYONE EVEN SEEN HIM IN THE LAST MONTH?!

I play on Saryrn and any sightings would at least keep my hopes alive. Please let me know if this quest is broken or not. Thanks in advance

I was able to mutilate the werewolf in WK just now. I was simply seeking revenge for the death of my brother and I when we were LvL 9 or so. The big-ugly dropped a PAW for me!

I've read the posts about Karg's tuff spawn. My fear is that when I give him the paw and money, nothing will happen. If and when I DO find Karg, what should he CON in order for me to get the GAUNTLETS? I remember quite well the pain I went through doing the Trumpy Head quest early on, only to have Byzar Bloodforge give me nothing in return. (due to no positive faction) Feel free to e-mail me with your advice!! I need it. =)

Just killed Karg today and he dropped a Fine Steel 2HS, Cloak of the Ice Bear, Greater Lightstone and yup, the Gigantic Zweihander. First time I killed him so maybe I got lucky but he does still drop the coveted sword. Conned even to my 35 Ranger and hits up to high 80's but snare stuck 3 times out of 4 so just peppered him with arrows and a few DD's.

After searching for Karg for a month to get a werewolf cloak, I can add some details that most people seem to miss...

Karg's known loot is the Cloak of the Ice Bear (same as the Martar drop) and either a rusty 2 handed sword or a plain 2 hander. Karg has reportedly not dropped the Gigantic Zweihander in a while, or if he has, nobody admits to it. Yet he is killed for it most every time he spawns. Too bad Verant's policy is to withold useful information... : (

Karg is a Quest NPC. He makes 3 items:
1) Polar Bear Cloak - requires a polar bear pelt and 5pp
2) Lupine Claw Gauntlets - requires werewolf claws and 75pp
3) Werewolf Skin Cloak - requires werewolf pelt and 100pp
He also despawns after making werewolf items, but not the PBCloaks.

Karg has no set spawn point. Just like Martar, he may spawn in front of permafrost, the east tower, near the ruins on the river, between the ruins and Megan's, at Megan's, and I think near Starn Bearjumper (barb vendor).

Karg follows EXACTLY the same route as his brother. So do polar bear cubs, polar bears, and ice goblin whelps. I believe these to be place holders for Martar (not Karg). Can't figure out what a polar bear cub would be doing in front of permafrost otherwise...

Karg can spawn in as little as 8 hours 40 minutes. I witnessed this personally. I also have reports of him not spawning for a week...

When I finally did get the chance to complete my quest (no rangers looking for werewolf cloaks), Karg spawned as I was following Martar around the Tundra. Martar had just crossed the river near the south tower when I received word that Karg had spawned. Could it be that Martar's trip triggers Karg's spawn?

As far as what to say to get the cloak...You say 'Hail Karg Icebear'. Then you con him. If he is at least indifferent, just give him the stuff. Most quests work that way...

My advice: Sit in front of Megan's tower facing the river and you will see Karg, Martar, and any PHs walk by (if they live that long) and kill the PHs as they walk by. If you want him for the werewolf items, offer a reward for Karg's being hailed (75pp worked for me), and make a few PB cloaks for the lower levels. They'll thank you for it.

The big thing about him is that when all us low levels want to get him to make a polar bear clock for us we can never find him because everytime he is sighted some high level runs up and kills him. I have been carrying the stuff(white polar bear skin and 5pp) around for almost 3 RL weeks, once I found him and just as I was trying to hand him the stuff some jerk runs up and nukes him.

OK. I'm not saying Martar is Kaarg's Ph, or that you can't see them both at the same time, but I search Everfrost for Kaarg for 3 hours with no luck. I then followed Martar for an hour, still no luck. I finally pulled Martar to a guard, the guard killed him, and sure enough about 15 minutes later my shouts for Kaarg returned a sighting of him. Do what you will with this information. G/L!!

1 Karg and Martar have always been level 32 in my experiences with them.
2 Karg does have some crazy cold resistance, but if you're a druid like me, this isnt a prob ;p
3 Nine hour spawn was mentioned.. no. He is just an uncommon spawn with a wandering PH. It has been my experience that martar is indeed a PH for Karg, and that mammoths are Not PHs. Lots of time searching for the elusive mammoth rib has made me sure of this.
4 He is definitely NOT a rare spawn. Sometimes i think newer players to the game dont grasp what a rare spawn is, they associate rare with anything that they dont see wandering around frequently. Could there actually be an 'uncommon' area between normal spawns and rares? If you hunt karg enough i think you will come to the same conculsion as i: that karg really isnt the up to the same caliber of rarety as, say, Blige in Cauldron. (If you wanna learn what rare is, try to camp him)

Last night 2 people spent all day camping for him. Then someone killed martyr and he spawned about 15-30min later. About 45 min after that martyr spawned again my groupie was his target he ran him to snowflake's group and had him killed. again 15-30 min later karg spawned this time i got 2 polar bear cloaks then a highbee killed him. A third time martyr spawned a highbee took him out just after he ripped me up. Then about 15-30 min later karg was spotted at the north tower all of these were seen near the north tower on the innorruk server between 7pm and 10pm systime not sure exactly we were camping the orc shamans

Im not so sure about the long time between spawns listed above. Yesterday I was doing the lupine claw quest and was able to track Karg 3 separate times in 4 real time hours. I did the claw quest twice and he disappeared both times. I'm not sure if doing the quests increases his spawn rate or if he spawns more frequently than people realize.

Karg is a nine hour spawn, once a Quest Item is given to him he DESPAWNS. I did the Lupin Quest and got the Gloves ( sell for 1200-1500 BTW) and he spawned near the South tower. Many have told me he USALY spawns there or near Martha's(?) tower and he also spawns near the Permafrost entrance. ALSO for the Werewolf Cloak its a WEREWOLF PELT not skin the PELT is the Magical Item needed to make the Cloak that and 100pp. He was rather difficult to find but usaly you can find a ranger or a druid if you have to to Track him.
