Lich Bug

I camped the Lich for the past week with no luck. I started immediately after the patch on 5/14 and did not see him. I can't tell you how sick I am of ice bone skellies (IBS). Yesterday I petetioned a GM regarding my concern that the Lich was not spawning and received the news that the last kill was 4/28 and this was a "Bug". I hope they correct the "Bug" soon because this was the most frustrating experience I have ever had since returning to EQ after a seven year break. Now the good news....

I signed on this morning and immeditaly cast Sense the Dead, ugghh ice bone skeleton. I walked past a wandering IBS and went to the northeast cave with the three IBS inside the building. Killed each and walked out of cave westward. Approximately 5032.85,-4462.64 the Lich and his pet appear. I pacify but he does not stop, I pacify again and nothing. Hail nothing. I continue this and start to become very nervous as he is walking toward Sulon McMoor. Suddenly he stops in the cave with Sulon lookin on. I pacify, do the turn in and begin my battle.

I never got below 76% with the help of my merc. The only add during the fight was an IBS. The fight took a good five minutes but I am happy to say that I have the robe and head for my Epic 1.0 turn-in.

Maverrick thanks for sending tells to check on me as my Epic 1.0 became less and less enjoyable.

Duo'd today.

70 paladin - 10k hp buffed.
67 wizard

I used the veteran AA resist buff. I had 525 resists for the whole fight.

I didn't go below 99%

Miragul resisted snares/wiz stun.

Was really easy.

He used his deadly lifetap 3 times during the 1 minute fight.

Took me a week to get him...checking twice a day. He was roaming very quickly around the caves.

*CONFIRMED* sense undead picked up him and his pet fine.
*CONFIRMED* that pacify works fine for turn in.

Good luck pallies!

Capped Miragul's Lich on June 7, 2007 (12:50am) Prexus

Couple interesting notes for the FYI department

1. Can confirm that the lich was pacified for turn-in,.... pacify intially to get close to him....pacify-->AGAIN...to ensure he remains "indifferent"

1.a, Don't fart around, have item ready for turn in (pacify is short in duration, maybe 10 secs with a 265 Charisma)

2. Had my SK camped there for a couple days, even after a recent patch...hit nothing with a full run thru of caves and constant casting of Sense the Dead (logged the SK) ....ran my Pally there to bind at the Wayfarers camp and had a hit immediately !!! (so maybe a Pally needs to be in the area for spawn???....just thought that was interesting, maybe some1 can confirm that?)

Lich was up, did turn in, Miragul taken down at 7:34pm EST 9/13/06. The Rathe Server.

Special thanks to Pitaa, Tekkenart, and especially Kindianraven for finding the people to help when I was not having any luck.

I used a level 17 Ranger parked at the south wall of the center round cave, with 2 skeletons spawns, and was able to track the Lich and pet on all of it's pathing from this location.

Good luck fellow Knights.

The Lich is a pally quest mob. We must give him back his soul from the Phylactery that we get from another quest. We have enough trouble getting the book of scales cause peeps keep killing the dragons. It has taken me 8 months to get to this point and some guy decides to kill this skellie while I am waiting for an enchanter to get to the cave. PLease DO NOT KILL THIS GUY... The pally epic is hard enough...
Back to camping for another 7 days or 7 months if depends on if these peeps with nothing else to do will leave him alone.

I have set my ranger in these caves and tracked for 8 days now also killing any skelly I see. Have yet to see this MOB up and on track. Is this broken ATM or am I just having insanely horrible luck.....

I have heard that the bear may be a PH for the lich which i need for my epic.
There are 2 roamers which may be bear, lich, or ice skelly.
I had some difficulty finding this bear. I posted my young ranger in the cave to check track once in a while for the lich. No sense getting a raid force up if the mob hasn't popped. The last couple days the bear was on track but not the lich. So i went in with my pally to take out the bear and help the rare pop along. I could not find the bear anywhere. I found and killed one roaming ice bone and killed the static ice bones. but no bear.
I logged the ranger back on and moved around with track on the bear. It led me to the back corridor and pointed me to a wall. i triangulated some and concluded that the bear was inside a wall. Strange!
Log pally back on and run along the walls seeking a secret door that maybe didn't make the map. Suddenly I'm mauled by teddy poking halfway thru the wall and a short fight later i have a new bear rug.
I examined the wall where he had been and no secret door revealed itself. The area shows as a large area of solid rock. So if he's supposed to be a roamer and is stuck inside a rock it's a bit hard to find him. If he hadn't attacked me i'd still be looking.

This has happened twice several days apart. Second time was 2 bears in the wall

The Lich of Miragul does NOT have a PH. This is an untrue rumor. The skeleton is a 7-day spawn and spawns right after a patch. I can personally vouch that this rumor is not true is any sense or way.

But grats on calling someone, happy about receiving an epic drop, a gimp. Hope it makes you happy.

We just finished killing the Epic version of Miragul! I'm OH so happy. Anyay here's some info to hopefully help my fellow Pallys:

To hand Miragul the Phylactery he must be CHARMED, NOT Mezed. The quest info at Epic Quest Adventures leads you to belive that he must be mezed...not true. Charm him and you wont have any problems.

Also 3 groups of 45 - 60 is overkill. We killed him easy with 2 groups of 50-60. Actually a little less as we had two LD's just as we started.

We had 1 59 monk, 1 55 Pally, 2 Low 50's Warriors, 1 56 SK, 1 54 Wizzy, 1 60 Cleric, 3 mid 50's Druids, and 1 59 Chanter.

He does life tap for 400 points frequently. And resistted all my stuns. But he went down hard and fast with no deaths. Also seemed to reisist fire more so than disease dots/dd's. Anyway hope this helps someone.

History of the Lich
# Nov 17 2002 at 3:09 PM Rating: Excellent
Over three thousand years in the past humanity was in its infancy. Mankind dwelled in the center of Antonica, spreading out slowly to inhabit the vast and fertile plains of Karana. Villages appeared and prospered, several reaching the size of towns, and two even became cities -- Qeynos to the west, and Freeport to the east. Humanity, much to the disdain of the elder races who watched from afar, was strong -- it rapidly gained a solid foothold in the world of Norrath and was there to stay.

This is not to imply, however, that humanity was at peace. Early on small groups formed, some linked by similar appearances, others by common goals. Competition was fierce, and when resources grew scarce for one reason or another many groups abandoned the promises and alliances of their past and fought. A few leaders spoke out against the violence, urging the masses to remember why they had fled the cold north. They had broken away from the lands of Halas and their barbarian brothers in the name of peace, and these leaders insisted that humanity adhere once again to those principals to which all had agreed.

Their cry was not totally ignored, and the fighting subsided. Villages were encouraged to trade with one another and to respond to competition nonviolently. An economy based largely on agriculture appeared and the villages and small towns were surrounded by large farms. Most of humanity’s leaders were pleased with this, wanting nothing more than peace and food on every man’s table after a hard day of work. A few, however, wanted more. Even though their people had risen well beyond the standard of living endured by their barbarian brothers to the north, they were not content. Explorers and adventurers returned from afar with tales of elves, dwarves, and other strange creatures, as well as descriptions of ancient abandoned cities. A few even came back with limited knowledge of sorcery and the mystic arts.

And when that discontent minority of leaders heard all of this, they became both jealous and determined. A small, fragile man of great intellect called Erud led this group, and he formed them into a council. They quickly became irritated, even disgusted, by their fellow man. Leaving a small network of spies behind, the remainder of Erud’s followers fled the city of Qeynos and boarded a small fleet of ships. They sailed to the west and landed upon the barren coast of the island of Odus. The land was sparse and uninhabited and quite appealing to the council and their people. They quickly built a city of their own, dissimilar in almost every way to both Qeynos and Freeport, for it was almost entirely a towering castle. Erudin it was called, and within it the scribes and scholars, who called themselves High Men, gathered and analyzed reports, captured books and scrolls, and other artifacts brought to them by their spies. The first human mages were then born – wizards, sorcerers, and enchanters occupied the great halls of Erudin and grew immensely in both power and knowledge.

One of the more adept practitioners of the arts was named Miragul. Unlike and more extreme than the others, he not only abhorred his human brothers on the mainland to the east, but he also grew to hate his fellow Erudites. To him they were both short sighted and narrow. They created schools of thought, categorizing magic into three groups and designing themselves to three classes: Wizards, Sorcerers, and Enchanters. Miragul found this limiting and thoroughly resented the thought of being restricted to one school of thought or another.

He soon found others who felt similarly. They were a small but growing group of outcasts who often studied forbidden texts and other knowledge generally kept secret from the majority of students. The council was morally and ethically opposed to much of the information gathered afar by their spies. Miragul found that these outcasts not only studied the three schools of magic, but also a fourth. It was called Necromancy and a few lucky spies had returned from a distant underground city (Neriak, it was called, home of the dark elves) with both their lives and also ancient texts describing this art. Miragul was intrigued, and, by using powerful magic, created for himself four identities, four separate countenances and names, and joined all four schools without the knowledge of the council, nor anyone else for that matter.

It came to pass some years later that the council, in its ever growing desire to know all there was to know, both in distant lands and also in its own city, discovered the group of Necromancers. They were branded heretics and a great conflict arose. For the first time in several hundred years, the Erudites fought. They engaged in a civil war not entirely dissimilar to that which they had loathed and fled from back on the mainland. But there was one very significant difference – they did not use swords and bows, but rather magic, and the result was terrible. Lives by the hundreds were lost, great buildings and structures destroyed, and eventually the heretics were forced to flee Erudin, to hide and regroup in the southern regions of Odus.

Miragul, being a member of all four schools, was not blind to the implications when the conflict began. He left the heretics before they fled the city, abandoning his fourth identity and siding apparently with the council. But this was only a ruse in order to buy time. He soon gathered every artifact and tome he could discreetly steal and then left Odus entirely, taking a ship back to Antonica and to the city of Qeynos. The lands of men, however, were not only to his dislike, but also filled with Erudite spies.Miragul grew afraid, even paranoid, and soon fled again. He headed far to the north and then to the east, wishing to avoid the barbarians of Halas. After many weeks he found himself near the great lake called Winter’s Deep and he hid there for some time.

While Miragul waited in secret his mind was not idle. He schemed and planned, and looked over every letter of every scroll and tome he had taken from Erudin. Time passed and his understanding and power grew. But he was unsatisfied and a deep hunger for even more arcane knowledge ate away at him. He soon left his hiding place and began to travel long distances in search of more ancient texts and artifacts. His power had grown and confidence overcame his fear of Erudite spies. Once again he cloaked himself in false identity and countenance and traveled the lands of men.

Not far to the south of where his cache of artifacts lay, Miragul soon found another of the new races, the Halflings, and their town Rivervale. The mage feared these small people and their propensity to sneak and to steal, and as his treasures grew in both size and value, he eventually made the decision to move even farther north, and away from all intelligent life. He traveled leagues and leagues, far beyond the range of both Erudite spy and curious Halfling, and eventually came to a vast tundra. This land had no name, and was not until centuries later referred to as merely the Frigid Plain. This frosty and remote environment appealed to Miragul’s heart, for it had grown cold, obsessed with only knowledge and the abstract, and filled with only hatred for others. Creatures with intelligence forced him to be discreet and slowed his acquisition of knowledge and items. He had as little to do with them as he could, only hiding amongst them when absolutely necessary.

Under the icy ground of the Frigid Plains, Miragul created a large network of tunnels and rooms in which to hide and study his collection. He used no labor, but rather deep magic to remove the earth from his way. Room after room, passage after passage, he did create to house his store of artifacts. He split his years, spending one score out in the world, exploring and amassing knowledge and items, returning them to his cache, and then the next dabbling with them, experimenting in one of several laboratories he had created.

Many years passed, even centuries. Miragul grew old, even though he did his best to extend his life using magical means. There was a limit to his enlightenment when it came to aging, and he soon acknowledged that one day even he would die. Only one aspect of death did he fear, and being no longer able to learn and collect wrought him with terror. As his skin grew wrinkled, and his breath short, Miragul’s time was spent less exploring the world of Norrath and more studying the existential. He soon discovered the various hidden dimensions that neighbored his own, the Planes of Power and Discord. He discovered means by which he could traverse these planes, making portals that led between them. But his strength was leaving him, and his journeys into these realities were short and often unprofitable. More and more, his own mortality limited his reason for living, and the specter of death haunted him daily.

The mage’s research into life and death was built upon a foundation he had learned from his fellow outcasts centuries before in Erudin. Necromancy, more than any other art, became Miragul’s obsession. Eventually he discovered a means by which to create portals within his own plane and made them to travel great distances in mere seconds. He traveled back to Odus, to its southern regions, in search of the other Necromancers. Perhaps, he mused, they had unearthed by now a way to cheat death.

The mage soon found that the heretics of Erudin had built a city into a great hole that led to unknown depths beneath the earth. This chasm was apparently the result of that huge civil war from which Miragul had fled centuries earlier. The city, called Paineel, though somewhat suspicious, allowed Miragul to enter and after a time he earned its inhabitant’s trust. Many humored the old man and his claims, while a select few respected him and were willing to trade knowledge for knowledge, power for power. They revealed to him the true power of necromancy, the ability to raise the dead, creating zombies and wraiths obedient in every way to their master. Many of the heretics planned to assault Erudin with vast armies of undead, to wreak revenge upon the council that had exiled and made war upon them in centuries past.

One important aspect of their necromancy interested Miragul, the fact that the undead ceased to age. Their lives appeared endless and the elderly mage knew that he must discover a way to be like them. He feigned interest in the heretic’s goals, learning spells to raise the dead, helping them raise their undead army. All the while, however, he was experimenting himself, hiding much of his research in the small home he was given in Paineel. After some time he discovered that which he had sought, a way to transform a living being, as opposed to a corpse, into the undead. Unfortunately, time was scarce, for he was tired and almost dead himself, his body deteriorating with age, and the heretics were almost ready to make war once again.

Miragul then left Paineel, using a small portion of his dwindling life energies to make a portal back to his cache hundreds of leagues to the north. Upon arrival, he withdrew silently to his most secret laboratory and prepared his final spell. Dreaming all the while of endless exploration and discovery, he slowly made ready his ultimate experiment. The enchantment laced with necromancy was finally made, and Miragul hid his remaining and fragile life within the phylactery, a small device he had pilfered from the other necromancers. Clouds of mystical energy gathered and then dispersed, revealing a shell of the man Miragul once was, an undead mage, what ancient scripts and legends called a lich.

In his haste, however, Miragul had made a miscalculation. The lich, while retaining all the mystical power of his formal self, lacked a spirit. Only the mage’s soul, now locked within the phylactery hidden deep in the cache, retained the ambition and desire to amass knowledge and power. The spiritless lich possessed none of these human traits, and Miragul’s soul screamed in silence as the undead creature began to aimlessly wander his menagerie of wisdom and enlightenment, his rooms filled with artifacts of power.

There is no level limit on attacking Miragul. (Or his Lich, for that matter.) Any level, from 1 to 65, can attempt it. Of course, success is unlikely at levels below 40, and 50+ is strongly recommended. One group of 55-60 in modern gear (PoP or LDoN era, as of this writing) should easily be enough to take him.

I tried the lich today solo w/ 56 shammy. Gated before I got too far into it, wasn't looking like a good risk (it dispelled my MR and PR). Had no trouble getting spells to stick, but I opened with malosi. Fears and poison.
Dark blue and formidable to me.
Lich and who's pet?
# Apr 15 2002 at 8:31 PM Rating: Default

Slightly confused pally here I went into the cave to look for the bone on divine might spell, saw the red con necro, turned safely ahead of time, ran into the bear, saw the lich, geared up for undead with rodcet nife and undead spells, dark blue con at lvl 48, no big deal I thought being undead.
Well think again, nuked my butt with 100 to 160 dam nukes, rv magic was around at 50
and physical hits around 80's , 90's in very quick order, didn't take long for me to use LOH and know I was in trouble. I was able to root him and ran around corners, camped and went to read up on this guy.

I fought the Lich of mag-something, a necro skellie, it used fear, nuked and knew how to hit hard, but it was alone, unless it is the Pet of the high lvl necro( which I do doubt, pets don't wander around that far off), I will read up a bit more on him but I hear a lot of talk about the pet. If the lich is the pet .... I surely don't want to meet its master.:)
RE: Lich and who's pet?
# Sep 25 2002 at 5:31 PM Rating: Excellent
Actually this Lich is what's left of its Master, Miragul, a Wizard/Magician/Enchanter/Necromancer who's soul is supposedly trapped in a box somewhere in the caves.

According to the Shaman Epic, Miragul created a spiritual Black Hole in Everfrost and the world's most powerful Shaman had to sacrifice himself cutting a hole in the spacetime continuum with the Spear of Fate.

Some reports indicate that the Lich's level has gone way up recently...not a good sign.

Just to clarify, this mob is another one of the many bottlenecks in the paladin epic, and you give him his soul (which is obtained via a quest with Oracle in OOT) to fight the real Miragul. This mob is on a 1 week spawn time, so I'm hoping people will think of other before killing it...

This agrivates me somewhat fierce.

He wanders but he is undead so if you have ITU up he wont be able to see you. There was a human in the caves however that conned red at 45 and he was ready to attack to a high elf. Ok, jsut so you get a perspective. Try taking down Inuruuk or his second hand man. Try catching an uncommon drop off a Mob boss in one ofthe most notorious Dungeons in the game. Try finding a random drop on the 7th Isle of the plane of air... Oh the life of a Mage...

Still think your Epic is harder? Quillmane. Nuff said. Epics are tough, meant for a select handful per server.

I can understand your problem..but you have to understand its an epic. It is never easy not for us Paladins or any other class for that matter. So take a deep breath and do some planning for this wonderful sword.. You will need patience, and lots and lots of friends willing to risk their skins. I am currently working on getting my book halves as we speak. I must say that is as difficult as getting the lich..you will need several groups.. plain and simple. Verant isnt going to give this thing away. Hold you head high like a true Knight and fight for it.. you will be proud of yourself in the end and well if not try playing a different class. I quaranty you it wont be any easier though. Just hang in there it will happen eventually.

He wanders. He is tough as nails. He has a pet. He has an attitude. As a 41 Shaman looting the Glacier Bear I ran into this freak of nature.

Jobaber was dead in under 10 seconds. (Didn't help that we had just finished killing GB). The ONLY thing that saved me was I had Spirit of the Wolf up, he feared me away from him, and that my channeling skill allowed me to take a hit and still cast gate.

A long time ago when I was 45 (druid) a fellow guildmate who was 26 at the time heard of the caves and wanted to check em out, of course lich ate him and spit him back out. Once he told the guild what happened a few knew who the lich guy was, so we organized a round-up of a few guildmembers and myself included. a 51 ranger, 51 cleric, 49 ranger, and a 47 ranger. so we all made our trip from the nk druid ring to the hole in the ice, put on our enduring breath, and went to the caves. After much confusion and where the cave was we finally found it, after the lich was pulled by the highest ranger who was dragging the lvl 26's corpse we began fighting it, he conned blue to most but after all our fighting, and nuking, we barely could get it to half health, suspecting he must have had 10k hps. His pet wasnt much but I would think twice before trying to kill him unless you got several 50+ that can kill undead good.

I know this might piss off paladins on my server but I don't care. The time came last night for justice to fall on this lich of miragul for haunting the cave where the glacier bear for the shaman totemic helm quest.

First off this guy is not very magic resistant and you can cast on him from quite a distance.
When I killed him just now he hit for double 137s and had about 10k in hitpoints. This guy was about as hard as the wurm I killed in burning woods that hit for 149.

It's not so much that he hit for 137, its that he hit so accurately for 137. I'm no slouch, I have 814 ac self buffed, but this guy was just chewing thru my hitpoints.

20 enstills, 3 tugurs, 7 ebolts, 2 plagues, and a 430 damage blast later lich of miragul fell.

Fight lasted about 15 minutes and I meditated without having a dot on the lich half of the time just to get enough mana to cast again and root if need be. His pet went down very quick.

Lich does not drop anything, I was just bored from killing ice giants and a shaman was having trouble camping bear, so I went and killed the lich.

So to sum up,
Lich is lvl 45 and has about 10k hps and hits for double 137s very accurately. Also does not drop anything.

If you are looking for miraguls robe you have to fight the lvl 53 version and bring 2 groups of lvl 50s. Not a very tough fight if you have debuffers, clerics, and tanks, but as with any other lvl 53 mob, can summon, etc.

Hope this clears things up. Don't go around saying you can kill this guy at lvl 50 either, you can't. any more resists on my spells and I would have had to gate at lvl 53.

Put it this way, I can kill dragoons easier than I can kill this little lich. Don't mess with this guy unless you know what you are doing.

Now, if you were to solo the LIVING Miragul, pallies might have a problem...

This is one of the few times where sense animal actually comes in handy. Also, if you just take it slow and be careful going around corners, this guy's pretty easy to avoid. His aggro radius is not that large. Just make sure to target all skellies you see and keep your ears open for footsteps.

Man verant could of done so much more with Miragul.... being the lord of magics n all, it was
Miragul who invented Teleporting, and he was a master of all magics so he should be able to
use all the spells that and erudin has ever used (Miragul was an erudite) Miragul should be
someone who could take down a God easily.... not someone which 2 groups of 50 can slay with
ease, btw what happened to his treasure... those caves are meant to hold all his knowledge

Miragul CHOSE to use necromancy above all other magics and if u read the story, he became most obsessed with necromancy during his twilight years, so he may just use necromancer spells instead of the spells of other classes evn though he has knowledge of them and he should NOT be able to take down a god easily because firstly, he is a creation like any other mere mortal save for his great intellect and he's a spellcaster afterall, so Verant alrdy gave him a big advantage to be able to melee so well. So a band of adventurers can take him down easily being no surprise, and such a long period of imprisonment within the phylactery may have made him comatose, forgetting how to teleport and gate and necromancy may be his most commonly used magic that it became a habit, just like u wake up every morning and brush your teeth, so he just uses it instead because no other spells come into his mind even though he has knowledge of them and as for the treasure part, u're right, I want to know what happened to them

Actually, in most fantasy games, liches are riduculously powerful casters, but are some of the most physically weak creatures around. After all, they may be immortal, but how physically tough can a 3000 year old pile of bones be?

You might argue that he in fact TOO strong, and should have 6 or 7 hit points. Hehe, imagine that. Walking in there, handing him his soul, and as he calls down the fires of hell upon you, pull out your rusty sword sword, poke him in the foot, loot your robe and head, and be on your merry way.

Enchanter Charm should make him con amiable to the enchanter and indifferent to everyone else; Bard charm should also do the same thing, just for a shorter length of time. Failing this try Lull/Harmony which should make him indiff to everyone. Benevolence/Bard Charisma Song will make him con with better faction but that only works for the bard or enchanter and it sounds like the paladin would usually be doing this quest unless you are shopping for a new robe (:
