Hastashi  

Red to level 12, as posted beforehand. Green to level 32. Dropped a mermaid scale and mithril earring on the first go, spawned immediately the next round and dropped only coin.

She spawns off the north shore of the island, toward the east side, with the seahorses just north of Tolo. One of the seahorses is her placeholder. She seems to be a very rare spawn, but I did see her twice in a row.

Warning: She can travel over land. This is apparently a bug.

She moves slow and jerky. She occasionally stops (as a spellcaster might, though she is a warrior) which makes fleeing from her easy (for those camping seahorses).

Hits for approximately 42 max, and kicks.

Lowers Mermaid faction.

LVL 12!!! Try not, she was red to my lvl 13 magacian.

I happened to run into her while doing my Epic (shaman). Apparently I didn't get her exact loc (and this was a while ago), but she was in the water (off to the ?left? if you're facing the water) near Ooglyn's stone. She was indifferent to me as well (Ogre Shm), and did not respond to my interrogations. Instead, she put up a bit of a struggle, and I was forced to harpoon her. Examining her insides, I found nothing worth eating, but trying anyway I discovered something which lodged in my teeth - a pearl, the standard sell-to-vendor quality (possibly random drop for her level). I also noted the -mermaid faction.
note- Ha! just noticed I actually killed her with my Gatorsmash Maul - fun fun toy I'd wanted forever and now finally have. =) 30/70.

Hiyas....the mermaid scale is used in a mage quest to get a stein of Ulissa, which is an item that puts your water pet on steroids...you get the stein from Vira in Sol Temple after giving him a sapphire, ice giant toes, a stein, and the mermaid scale...happy hunting!

I too saw one long ago in Erud's Crossing. Unlike you, my quest for power lead me to attack it. At first, I attempted to hail the creature with no response - it was indifferent to me. Loot was nothing special. There was faction hit with Mermaids. The most puzzling thing was her name: It did not say "a hastashi", it only showed "hastashi".
