Here's the deal. He has a PH, and he's not on a timer. His PH spawns at the zone in, as has been mentioned before. But the PH will despawn if not killed after a few minutes. Prior to writing this post (as I am camping him right now) his PH spawned 3 times, with out me ever killing them, and no one else in zone, spawns where "Ice Bone Skeleton" then a rat, then a ghoul. The mummy will agro you when he spawns and apparently stays active longer than the other PH's. I got killed while at work by the mummy, Who knows how long he beat on me, face was in wall so no riposte. Anyway when I ran my cleric there the timer on corpse was 1h 40m, and he was still up. Either he respawned in that time frame or he never despawned.

Again 100% his PH will despawn, you can stand at zone in and eventually he will spawn and agro you.

Umm... wow, guess i was lucky when my rogue was jumped by him and dropped him ending with about 20% hp... got the ring on Quellious without even meaning too...

camped him for a couple hours and after the about 15 phs i gave up. i was killing everthing in the room without going through doors and the ph kept spawning behind me and attacked me every time i sat down.

I went and killed everything I could in the area around the entrance. Spent about 2 hours there, and never saw him.

My solution: I cheated...I went to the bazaar and bought the ring for about 5p. I guess the guy who sold it didnt realize how valuable it was to me!

No to get the gold ring....

Soloing with my 11 bard in Befallen, I was staying at the entrance and only pulling from the first room.

Gynok popped on me twice in 15 minutes. Both times I was in the entry hall, once about half way to the main first floor room, the other I was sitting at the zone-in healing up, and both times he popped BEHIND me, so he definitely spawns at the entrance.

I had my 46 druid parked there. After the second pop, I logged my druid on just in time to see Gynok pass through the locked first floor door. I followed him down to the next floor before I killed him.

A ghoul also did the same thing several times, and headed to the lower floors also. Both times the ghoul popped right before Gynok.

Gynok dropped the platinum ring both times.

Best way to get this guy....there is no best way.
Camped him for 12 hours straight before he popped....Last night I just zoned into Befallen to see what was shakin and there he was just wandering around with no one but me and him in the zone :)
LOL...I only had one Lifedrain DoT up so I had to drain him and then melee him to death :) was pretty funny looking...since my piercing skill is in the mid-50's.
In the numerous times I have killed him I have actually got all 4 rings to drop from him...although I would not recommend trying to do the quest by just killin him....It will take way to long

Not sure on spawn time, but truely believe that it is just random, but I have now killed him twice in about 20 hour time period. I killed him early this morning at about 5:30 a.m. and just killed him again today at 5:30 p.m., not sure if that was good luck or if that is spawn time, but this is just my 2 cents.

I decided to get the paw for my cleric (play two accounts). I don't belive much in any far fetched strategies for getting mobs to spawn. However, since I had nothing to do I killed everything in befallen with my warrior.. over and over again.. 12h later I log off tired and pissed off.

Next day patchday and I logged on as soon servers opened (junkie warning). Then I just sat at entrance buffing lowlevels and helping them out some.. 4-5h later the @#%^er spawns and I got the plat ring.

Right now im sitting in uguk camping the Fungus mutant, who knows how long it will take.. I'v got the "common" drop for Copper ring 3-4 times in 4h.

I hate this quest..

Okay, Here is the Bad news....Gynok is a Purely Random spawn, and VERY rare at that. There is NO trigger. The previous posts that stated the he spawns after a PH shouts "You have disturbed my rest, Suffer as I have" are Incorrect. I have seen the shout a dozen times, and no Gynok. I have seen him spawn after no shout from the previous PH. He does in fact spawn near the zone to WC. Rate for PH's is 18 minutes. Lastly it does Not matter if you kill the skeleton and the 2 rats that are also on landing, they are irrelevant. ( This is after having completed the quest 4 times, and Camped Gynok for over 75 hours total )

In 20-25 hours of camping this guy, he spawned twice. First time he dropped the copper ring. Didn't have it but Bracken Mildew is a more frequent drop so I wasn't too happy. Took a break in Guk at the fungus farm. Got all three drops in 4 hours. Started camping Befallen on and off again. Low and behold Gynok spawns a second time for me..... And drops the gold ring which I already have. Then to my luck someone in EC was selling the plat ring.... For 1k!!!! Well back to Befallen I went. Someone had mentioned Gynok is a 9 hourish spawn. And yet another said him spawning might have to do with the wimpy skely. If anyone can confirm or disprove these rumors it would be much appreciated. Thanks. (c=

I have spent alot of time in befallen lvling up with my pally and Ive had this guy on my a** alot usually ran until the other night Im at lvl 22 but he was hitting for 40hp a shot some low 9s and 12s but most were in the 20 and 40s I had him down but did not have my lay hands option so he won this time but I see him alot on the mith mar server. I dont think he is a lvl 25 I almost had him down at lvl 22 without layhands and after brawling with one of the sk he also conned blue to me.

Just droped Gynok ....As for place holder I managed to drop all of the shadowknights 1st for my keys. Got boarded and decided to drop all of the rats for fun (ones on top floor only)I particaly picked on the monsters that were roaming near steps as you enter Befallen. Watch for skellys and rats walking the same path way those might be the ones you need....also look for hiden rat in cubby hole as you enter befallen. those were the only ones i droped when Gynok poped ...Got the Platinum ring. Server went down before i could nail him again.

I was waiting for the dElf shadowknight with the first key to spawn, got bored and took a wander around. Everything so far was green and didn't aggro, so I was surprised when I started being attacked. Turned around and saw this critter conned blue and proceeded to pound away. Got the platinum ring as loot. Guess I will hold on to it for now.

I began camping Gynok at 10am as a 20 level Druid almost immediately after the last camper had killed him and looted the plat ring. After killing ph's for 5 hours, he spawned. Unfortunately, he was yellow to me and proceeded to whip me. Being that I was the only one in the zone, I had to run for it. When I jumped back in after healing, he was gone. Luckily a level 50 friend quickly helped PL me and then left me to camp the spawn for another 5 hours. Mind you, my friend bound himself there and was therefore only a gate spell away should Gynok appear. At 10pm, he spawned. I attempted to hold him at bay while my friend gated to buff me. However while I stood there and took all the hits, another dru (2 levels lower than me) stood back and nuked him. My friend arrived while I was at half health...right before Gynok was slain. Of course the other dru got the xp and proceeded to loot. Silly me began to get all excited because the dru mentioned the drop was one of the rare rings...gold. However, much to my surprise the guy wouldn't even hear of giving it to me after I calmly explained that I had been camping him for 12 hours! Of course he stepped in with the intent to KS and threatened to destroy the ring because of the pressure the crowd was giving him. I was more than a little ticked off but continued to keep my cool and was overly nice to the guy considering what he had just done to me!! After a little petition to a GM the guy "decided" to give me the ring...not without a few choice, haughty comments though. Although I understand the difference between rl and a game...it frustrated me to think someone could act that way. On a good note, the next day my lvl 50 friend was killed...having been bound in Befallen and due to major coincidence, Gynok was up and uncamped when he arrived. He simply killed him and looted both the gold and plat rings!! He then passed the plat on to me! So, the story does end on a good note. My whole point simply was to remind everyone...please don't KS another's camp!! As ridiculous and unheard of as that may sound! ;-) Please just remember EQ ettiquette. Thanks for letting me vent. 1. Gynok spawns right at the entrance.
2. His place holder can be anything from a giant rat to one of the higher level skeletons. Which spawns right at the entrance also and then works its way around the top level.
3. The place holders spawn once every 16 minutes.
4. You do not have to kill anything except this 1 place holder to make him spawn.
5. When the place holder spawns it says something like "aghh who has disturbed me from my sleep". This does not always happen though.

I camped him for 8 hours and he dropped the copper ring - aghhhhhhhhhh.
I hope this helps and you don't get the copper like I did.

I camped this bugger for 40 (count 'em. 40) hours and I never even saw him spawn... really this has gone right past "challenging" and entered the realm of "mind numbing stupidity"... it's not even fun... this is ONLY BORING!!... screw you Verant for this one... I would have been happier if he spawned and NOT drop the ring... better that than sitting on my ass for 40 hours and not even see him... gah...

I have the ring though... a most righteous warrior named Guilder found this buttmunch and killed him and gave me the ring... guess he was tired of seeing my scrawny druid butt down there... :)

Gynok's always been known to drop 3 different rings (plat gold cop), even 2 at a time. I have never seen him drop anything but the platinum ring though.

I camped him for 3 days on and off. dont be scared not 3 days straight. I finally kill him on the 3rd day and he only drop copper ring. I cant believe it! Has this happened to anyone else or were the GMs bored and wanted to screw with me.

I have killed gynok 3 times now and got the plat ring twice for different characters hehe. The place holder is for sure the one that say "grrrrrah u have disterbed my sleep now u will pay". Also u will see this message no matter what lvl you are on. You must i repeat must kill the rat in the main hall to trigger spawn. And u must always kill place holder. I have waited many times for long lenghts but times i have killed him he spawned right away. He was tough on my 24 pally had to use LOH. But my 40 cleric just rooted and nuked him like he was a little punk with mana 80 % and hp 80 % left after he was gone. Now at lvl 24 my cleric had to run so dont try if not melee or 30 +. hope this helps

I camped this guys place holder for 14 and a half hours yesterday, no gynlok. Now im sorry i know it takes time. because this is a really good quest, but after almost 15 hours i should have gotten atleast one spawn.
