The Ancient Croc is probably second only to the Shin Lord in terms of popularity. The Ancient Crocodile can be found in the very back of Guk, near the two watery enterances to Lower Guk.

He hits for 72 Max, but has relatively low HP for something which hits that hard.

Just for fun I timed the spawn and it is basically what everyone has stated at 16min 15secs. No big, but still the first pop of arriving at the camp had the ancient croc spawn and dropping the sleeves.. Very handy indeed.

Ah, the Ancient Croc. Back before Kunark I had these sleeves and legs on my Monk. I was king of the roost! Finally got my Azure sleeves, best sleeves in game at the time, imo! (for Monk)

I've been camping this spot for the past 4 hours at level 30. It has been a cake walk so far with EXCELLENT exp. I get a blue bubble for each kill. I just want to say, if you camp this they do agro ONLY if you stand next to them for too long. My method as a paladin is to cast cease on one from the last ledge and let it come to me, kill and pull another till they are all dead. Also in four hours, i have yet to see a single AC, it is COMPLETELY random. I have seen him spawn up to three times in a row also.

Also I see some people say 1-3 crocs spawn, that is incorrect. Up to FIVE can spawn at a time. Every spawn I hope is five instead of the ancient croc, I get over one yellow bubble per five croc spawn. Also all crocs are blue to white, the AC was yellow at level 29, haven't seen him since I got 30.

I am a 31 wizard, camped this guy solo with KEI and tons of +INT gear. I only got him to spawn twice in probably 2 - 3 hours of camping. He droppped the leggings both times, i has hoping for the sleeves, ended up trading the leggings for a set of the sleeves.

... KEI... at lvl 31?... Did you hack Everquest? if so tell me how because last i heard you CAN'T get KEI at 31... in fact you have to be 46 d00d.... try again

But yea these are cool items for the level at which you can obtain them... people who dont twink their alts(and those that do...) and have a caster have at these the gators drop really easy

Hhmmm....sad part is, when the original post was made, you could cast max lvl buffs on the lvl 1 toons. So the first post saying he was here with KEI could be accurate. Even if it wasn't, most of us EQ'ers had no problem seeing the forest for all the trees.

After days of camping,I finally got lucky and had this thing spawn twice in a row but as luck would have it He dropped the leggings twice in a row also... not bad loot but not what I was hoping for. I camped for a little while afterwards and nothing so I left. Him and the saltwater crocs are good exp, but they wait is so long and boring. It's ok though now I have a new pair of pants and an extra. But I'm gonna camp for a little while longer and see if I can get those darn sleeves

P.S. I don't think he's level 31, he spawned twice in a row and he was dark blue to me both times. And also if your on the Xev server and interested in purchasing the Legs or trading them for the sleeves send me a tell

I'm getting bored with High Keep since I've been there for about 5 or 6 levels, and I was looking for a better spot to go and I came across this, I started reading a little and I'm really interested to see what's it's like. According to this he's a very easy kill but spawns only randomly. And I basically got the point that he drops the sleeves commonly but not the legs which is alright because Wizards really don't have much use for the legs except selling. Well I'm a 30 Wizard, but I have a few questions about the other enemies you must fight in order for him to spawn. Are they more difficult or easier because chances are I won't be able to fight tons of tough enemies one after another. Anyway I'm really in it for the experience but the sleeves wouldn't be to bad either, and by the way I'm thinking about soloing him is that a good idea for my level?

ahh this is off topic but HK is grats well after 5-6 ur bored try me i was there from lvl19-36 thats a long time(17lvls). but it is the best xp i have ever gotten. i recomend that any one that is around lvl20. since the RR room is so easy with 2 healers that are crack heads (druids or clerics) and a few tanks. all around lvl25-30 and you can pull the WR and RR rooms its like a lvl every 2hours. my best was 3 lvls(14 gold bars) in under 3 hours. if you can beat that plz post here.

One of my favorite camps

This happens to be one of my favorite camps. Now with the release of SoL and PoP, most of the old world dungeons for the most part seem to be all but vacant (on my server) I started soloing here at lvl 24 with 210 wis (Halfling Druid) with KEI and was able to effectively solo the saltys. The Ancient Croc was a bit more of a challenge. I bound my self on the lowest ledge at the camp close to the water. Then, if I croaked, all aggro is cleared and I don't have to make a long corpse run. Plus with these being on a 16 minute timer I was able to port out to Nexus or some other place to fight a bit and Gate back in. Before lvl 29, I worked on fishing, tracking, forage, and sense heading between spawns. The timer starts after the last salty is killed. Also I have found that there are 2 Swampwater Crocs that hang around close by. After I kill the spawn of Saltys I usually will kill the Swampwater Crocs too. This seems to facilitate the Ancient Croc spawning (at least in my opinion). I have had AC pop 3 times in a couple of hours doing this. Best advise on killing croc is this. I snare, root, DoT, DoT, Dot back down to the lowest ledge and off to one side(make use of the mapping and exploit it) the croc (AC or Saltys) will walk down the middle of the "room" which gives you a chance to re root and run to the other end of the room off to one side. Then nuke with careless lightning (pre-29 for Druids) or what ever your stongest nuke is and get ready to root him again. Repeat this until he/they are dead. It is pretty simple once you get the hang of it. Plus it is good exp for up to about 36. Just remember that the AC seems to be random. I have had him pop after a single Saltwater spawn, after a 2 Salty spawn, 3, 4, and 5 so the spawn is really random. As well this is the second character I have leveled in here past 30. So for all of you out there that want to know if you can solo the AC??? Here is my answer. Yes at some point in your toon's life you will be able to. For classes that have root snare and DoT and dd then you can solo here much earlier than a melee class. At 29 I started soloing here with my DE SK (slightly twinked) and at 24 with my Druid(Quite Twinked).

Edit...

There would be no real reason to use calm animal on the crocs, because they aren't social animals. This really makes it much easier IMHO. Also, lately what I have been doind since lvl 33 here is when they spawn (up to a 3 spawn) is to root them all snare them all and use DoT's and then Tremor. This is kinda fun hehe.. After lvl 34 it gets even faster. I will take a 4 or 5 spawn on this way. Rooting all of them in place, snaring them all and then use Immolate, Creeping Crud, and Drones to DoT them with and then using earthquake at about half health this will kill them quite quickly and for lvl 34 and 35 you should still get roughly 1 full blue per kill (which is still insane if you ask me, as compared to Quad kiting which you have to worry about adds etc.. and not as much exp per quad as a single kill here.)

Easy camp for a 30 chanter
# Sep 26 2002 at 2:45 PM Rating: Decent

Wasn't hard at all. Went with 30 chanter (me), 32 druid, and 35 mage. That was a HUGE overkill. AC was up when we got there. We slaughtered him. He dropped the leggings. LOL I think the druid actually tanked him. IT got really boring camping there but its a good place to get ur fishing and swimming up I guess. Place holders were saltwater crocs. They spawned about every 20 minutes. We slaughtered them for maybe an hour and then my druid and mage friends got tired and logged. I decided to stay and try it by myself. I stayed for probly 3-4 hours and never saw more than 3 crocs at a time. They all conned dark blue or white. I think they are like the crocs in oasis in that they have false agro (not sure wasnt brave enough to test it :). I know for a fact they are not social because of how I soloed them. I would start with enstill then smack em with tash then tepid deeds (40% slow). After that I would start nuking them , alternating between a 150nuke anda 95 nuke (chanter nukes have a long recast time). AFter a nuke or two the root would break and they would atk me. Smack em with color shift, re root, and start nuking them again. Tank for pet if needed. After crocs were dead I med and lert health regen (illusion iksar). blue crocs took about 80m to kill at 167 int and even cons took a lil more. AC took all my mana and about half my pet. After a few hours of doing this I finally got my sleeves. Another thing, the crocs try to run at about 0.5 to 1.5 bubbles hp which makes them easier if you don't root them. They swim fast though so it might get annoying if you let them get away but frogs want aggro if they see you killing them not unless your already kos to frogs. Eh, thats all info I got, sorry bout long post.

This guy is very easy for druids if you are patient enough to wait for it. The Place Holders are called Saltwater Crocs. Every pop there may be 1-5 saltwaters. You have to keep taking those out in order to get the AC to pop =/ (takes a looong time sometimes). All we have to do is use our lvl 19 (I think) 'Calm Animal' because harmony doesnt work indoors. As a 34/35/36 Druid while camping this thing, If calm didnt stick - only one would be pulled but im not sure if the whole group would agro or not if you are lower. Anyhow - just root cook - or if you havnt been picking on the frogs they may should be dubious (unless you had to fight your way in) and so you have the whole zone to tweak with the gators.

One method Ive heard that works is use Levitate and float above the water in the AC room and the crocs wont chase you - then you dont have to use calm and root... just need to DoT them. This I havent tried because it seems sort of risky to me (as I have tried levitate to get away from mobs in oasis by climbing the collumns hehe), but I HAVE seen it done in person. The gator just seems to sit there while my friend was nuking the crud out of it!

The AC drops either the Sleeves or Leggings. So far (out of about 3 pops for me) Ive only recieved the legs but the same friend above has ( I believe she said) 4 pairs of legs and sleeves! LOL I dunno how she got it but I know that it would have taken a long time because on average for me it takes the AC about an hour to pop.

As for wether the loot is waiting for - as a 34 druid when I got my first set of wis leggings.... it was worth it. As all of you druids know we can start quading at 34. With a wis of 165 I would have to meditate mid-quad and at the end I would barely be able to finish off the 4th mob. (Quading the Cougars in IC on the Gnome Island). With the extra 4 wis I was able to quad with just under 20m left at late 34 and early 35.... So in other words - it gives you some breathing room!

Camping the AC
# Jun 12 2002 at 8:55 AM Rating: Decent
The AC is easy for a lv36 cleric. He took me from midway though 36 to now midway through 37. Just make sure you have full mana before you go at it. Have atone memed incase your getting your butt kicked too.
Just root, nuke. Thats it. He resisted about one of my spells a battle and maybe partially resisted a couple of my nukes but on a full tank of mana he goes down pretty easily.
I had to run from the camp once when I accidentally aggroed 3 crocs on me at once. Threw up DA and swam like hell (136 swim) I didnt want to gate cause I was bound in Gfay and I certainly didnt want to die either heh...
I camped him for about 7 hours total one day, he spawned 4 times. Dropped 3 sleeves and 1 leg. However, a shammy friend was with me during the first hour and he won the legs before he left me to solo AC for 6 more hours just to get 3 sleeves. Argh...

i camped this guy tonight and omg. I show up and 3 people are there so i ask if i can site to the side and wait they said sure. so sitting there ( the PH where not up at this point) i was talking to the guild about Haden well anyway one Saltwater pops and exacly 16 minutes later the AC poped they killed him and got the sleaves. they passed the camp to me and i sat and waited for the next pop. Im a 32 wizard and i didnt expect the crocs to be so resistant the first ph that poped i had to gate out cuz it resisted everything. At the zone i invised and headed back luckly to find the camp still empty i sat healed and medded then was able to nuke the croc i got 3 more single pops before 3 poped on me i called for a guildy who was in lguk he came up and helped me clear them. Now mind u this is takeing a while i started the camp at about 1:30 am or 2:00 am est after a bit 2 poped and i started nuking but i had to gate now it is 4:25 am EST and the AC didnt pop for me so this leaves me to belive that the people posting that the pop time for the AC is 16 minutes need to be clear about what they are saying. its not the AC that pops every 16 minutes its the PH Saltwater Crocs that pop the AC is totaly random and can pop any time from twice in a row to 1 every 8 hours. i hope this may clear up some missconseptions some of u may have cuz for a while i was confused about this. Sry to make such a long post but i hope it helps a bit.

Hey all, I was just wondering, How do you make the AC spawn faster?

I camped it the other day, for like 5 hours, and he poped mabey 8 times? Droped the sleeves 5 times, arms 2 times. It took more than 30 minutes inbetween each time he poped. Are there any creatures you can kill to make him pop easier?

All advice is greatly accepted )

If this country's minds got any narrower, they'd slip out ppl's ears onto the floor. So, "d00d", go back to following the stupid mainstream ways of our society...or be nice, you l00zer.

Started camping the crocs in Guk at 32nd level. I found them to be VERY susceptible to root/enstill and nukes. I think it's believable that lower level wizards could camp this. I found the spawn time to be 16 minutes. Between 1-3 Saltwater Crocs normally appear. Rooting one does not aggro the others. On the average, I'd get about 3 nukes in and the root would break, but it was pretty easy to root again, and finish them off.
I did have one problem. One time, the root was resisted, and the croc came up and smacked me a few times. I rooted again, got it to hold, and scrambled away from the croc so it would stop biting me for 60 a pop. Well, I thought that the others wouldn't aggro, so I ended up standing next to another Saltwater Croc and started to nuke again...when I start getting smacked again for 60. Apparently, the other croc aggro'd. I had to gate out to save my life. I made sure I came back with a vengeance though. *smile*
I'd say the Anc. Croc pops once every 10 spawns or so. I camped about five hours total in 2 settings, and saw him twice. Got a pair of sleeves and legs.
ONE MORE THING: the experience was phenomenal at 32nd level I got nearly a blue for every kill. And I got a whole level of xp just doing this camp. Very productive, albeit a bit boring when you are waiting 16 minutes for the next spawn.

Keep see inviz on cuz people like to show up inviz and hang around. I don't know if you were really lucky or if my luck is just lame-probably the latter. Had at least 10 people come along and ask how long I was going to be. And guess what? Only one of them was a caster, LoL the rest were bards and warriors looking for some cash. Guess I'll try again if I can get lucky enough to beat the guild twinkos there...

This is a very easy camp for a 29 druid, especially if you just keep snare/root on and use the new DOT over and over, saves mana and you can med while the DOT is in place :)

From my experience with the Ancient Croc, I can tell you this. He IS a random spawn. He WILL drop something, either the Sleeves (common) or the Leggins (rare). I've camped him for a while now and killed him on 5 different occasions. He at one time spawned back to back for me, dropping the leggins then the sleeves. The only placeholder(s) are the saltwater crocs that spawn.

And has anybody noticed the incredible experience from these guys? Even at 38 I'm getting great XP.

How to succesfully camp the Ancient Croc
# Mar 25 2002 at 1:36 PM Rating: Decent

I found out a few things camping the AC, and I believe this is how the spawn works.

There is a swampwater croc that runs up out of the water and into the wall, then it de-pops, this happens about every 20 minutes real time. Shortly after that the PH crocs will pop, usually 5 or 3, you need to kill them, loot their corpses and be sitting on the step closest to the water before another swampwater croc runs into the wall.

Then after 2 or 3 rounds of PH the AC should pop, I got the leggings on the first spawn of him.

Thats my .02

Take care

# Mar 06 2002 at 9:32 AM Rating: Good
As a reminder to people, since Guk is a zone known for aggro some people forget to remove their Invis while sitting at the AC camp. Turn on your See Invis or yell for a camp check. I got KS'd cause some guy didn't know i was there. Not entirely his fault, but a simple check will save everyone some grief.

Also, the spawn cycle is roughly 16 minutes, give or take. His PH are 1-5 Swampwater Crocs.

Ive been at the AC camp in Guk since I was lvl 32 (35 now) and got through all of those levels from killin the saltwater crocs. Up to 34, the AC was a moderately rare spawn, seen him about 6 times, 3 arms 3 legs. As soon as I hit lvl 34, I transfered servers and as soon as a few friends of mine gave me some decent equipment (a borrowed Eye of Inny being decent :P ) I made my way back to Guk. I am now 2 yellow bubs through 35, all from the crocs, and have seen the AC 3 times and he had the legs all 3 times. Im not complaining or anything, they sell really easily and have so far paid for the cash part of my Jboots, but I still have nothing in my arm slot. The saltwaters are startin to /con mostly light blue and Im about ready to clear out for better exp, but 4 int where I have nothing now wouldn't be bad.

So, for lvl 31-35, this camp is great solo exp and decent loot for anybody, use what you can, sell what you cant.

BTW, if youre lookin for gatorscale legs on T Marr server, send Aligaurius a tell (not Jeef as the account name says, Jeef is not me), I usually have at least one pair available.

Well this is for everyone who can levitate. I found that when camping the AC use levitate and stand over the water right by the edge to where AC lair is. I snared him, and his little friends too, and he didnt move an inch. Just unload on him and he will die where he spawns. Very useful if u get low on mana, they wont aggro on you even when u med ;) For u fellow druids out there, when u have multiple gators just charm one and sick it on the others, remember your bat wings though :) Hope this helps someone.

I followed your advice at level 28. Works great and great exp. Get 3 blue bubs in 3 mins hehe. Too bad nothing spawns until 16 minutes later. After my mana heals up, I go fishing or swimming. Don't wanna risk KOS in froggy country...

One thing tho.. they move when they get hurt. If you let them get in the water, there is no way a DD will hit them. Don't think a DoT will do either. You must melee, at least until it gets back on dry land. If the one you are chasing is not the only one you are fighting, better watch your back. Lose levitate and you'll die.

Well, after another successful camp, I am certain that this croc spawns after 2 consecutive spawns of 1 salt water croc. If I am wrong, NERF this! But if not o well, ill still be camping this gnarly gator.

I camped dat alligotor all day for darned near 6 hours. Tuuk a whole lotta booze and a little liquor to get that alligator to come along. I got me box all ready with the string and stick, then BAM the meanest alligotor you ever deed seen come rearing at my backside, so i unsheathed the blade and showed it what it feels to be angry!

I camped the AC for about 6 hours. The spawn time on the saltwaters is 16 minutes. While camping I noticed that up to 5 saltwaters came at one time. Some aggro, so you dont want to go AFK to long becuase you don't want to be alligator bait. Right before this croc spawned, 2 spawn turns of 1 saltwater came. Could this be something to look for? NO IDEA but hey, maybe some inspiration for ya.

Swung by Guk on my way out of town to hit some of the more popular spawn - all taken - except the AC for some odd reason - NP, he was all mine then.

There were three saltys there when I got to the camp - all dark blue. I'm a 32 SK so I summoned a pet down near the water and held my breath that I could handle all three. To my surprise, the others didn't care that I pulled thier friend - apparently what had whiped me out last time was the fact that I was fighting too close to them - if you stay near the water then the other won't help and you can single pull to your heart's content without fear of wandering mobs or needing aggro radius reducing spells.

The saltys were great XP, although loot was non-existent. Got three gold bubs in about 5 hours of soloing the camp. Spawn cycle was about 15 to 18 minutes.

The AC spawned on the second and third pops for me - dropped the legs both times - figures since I wanted the arms, but thought that if he popped this often, then NP.

The next 12 spawns were all place holders - saltys. Most common spawn was three dark blues, occasionally one of them light blue. Once had three dark blues and one light. Third most common was a pair of dark blues and the last three spawns before I left were single dark blues.

Kept see invis up, but no claim jumpers this evening, several folks swung by and asked for tells when I was done and there were a couple of camp checks. One group had a chanter with them who was even nice enough to hit me with a Clarity.

I recomend you either bring some tradeskill gear to practice with or just work on getting your casting skills or sense heading up - it didn't take any more than 5 minutes to clear each pop and my hitpoint and mana expendatures were such that I could spend about 5 minutes practicing my casting skills.

You may be tempted to try to pull those frogs that are nearby - don't - you can solo for loot and XP without a problem just working the AC, pulling the frogs for XP means you need a good group and the puller must have levitate since the frogs are very fast swimmers - I have a 156 swim skill and they can still catch me.

Camped him for 8 hours last night, and he popped at 6 hours and 8 hours. I got around 3 orange bubbles of experience, some new legs for myself, and some nice arms for my friend's wizzy.

Sometimes 5 salties spawned. Lots of people were interested in the camp, I had see invisible on and had to hail some people to find out what they were doing sitting on the spawn point, lol.

Well just so you don't feel neglected I'll answer you and say "no". which is probably pretty accurate if you try to solo but your chances in a group are significantly better especially with a tank and a cleric. Hope someone with some real exp. will post soon and help you :)

This is unfortunately too popular a camp - was working him last night and was the only person in Guk at the time. I hit /who periodically just to see what's going on, etc and notice that there's some anon in here now. Sent him an /ooc or two to see what he was camping or looking for, but no response - that's when I got suspicious.

Back in Highpass, I had a real problem with folks always showing up to KS the Sharlock when he popped for his pack - one guy had apparently been sitting there for some time either invis or hiding in shadows (was a while ago, don't recall which) so just out of curiosity, I cast my SK version of see invis and discover Mr Anon sitting right across from me.

So I send him a few more /tells asking if there was a particular camp that he was looking for, etc - still no response. I then walk over to him - when I was right in front of him he stands up - I do a /wave then asked him if he intended to KS the croc which I'm obviously camping. He sits back down - figured he was just camping out - nope, a minute or two later he's still here - send him a tell - this person isn't on line - OK, he's put me on ignore and obviously intends to KS.

After a few messages to my guild noting what's happening I get hold of some of his guild members and eventually am given the name of an officer - I send him a tell and let him know what's happening and what his noble guild member is up to and much to my surprise and delight, he stands up, gives me a /rude then gates out.

Didn't get to hook up with the AC though - kept getting that pair of salt water crocs - those suckers hit rather hard, so be careful.

My group came here because we wanted some good dungeon experience and maybe to get a chance at the legs but there was a 46 Druid there and he said the camp was his and he didn't want to share. He told us to "Go to Lake of Ill Omen" where we belong. I'm going to duel you someday and shove those arms up your nose.

Have a nice day, 46 Druid Farmer.

# Dec 28 2001 at 3:07 PM Rating: Default
The spawn is completly random and so is the drop from my experience more sleeves have dropped than legs but I believe it is a 50/50 chance. I have been at AC anywhere from 1-2 pops up to 14 ph's before getting AC completly random and yes it is true he can spawn twice even three times in a row... but dont count on it. BTW be careful they may con green to us high farmers but dont lettem hit u too much i personnally think charm animals is great with hoiw hard they hit. Thx hope i helped..

I remember camping this guy when I was in my early 40s, I think for a Necro friend. If you kill the two outter saltwater croc spawns first, then wait at least 12 mins, then kill the middle spawn, only the middle spawn will pop from then on, until you wait the whole 16mins or whatever it is. The middle spawn is the AC spawn, or ph. After I broke the spawn like this, I got 5 or 6 AC in a row, and neither, the left nor the right saltie even popped. Seemed strange at the time, but it worked. Good luck, all, and be safe! =)
