Just Killed Him
# Jun 03 2008 at 11:56 PM Rating: Decent
He spawned after about twenty minutes of killing 'a dune tarantula' & 'a Puma'. Upon it's death, about 20+ 'a Bloody Terrorantuling's exploded out of the corpse.

Two time now:
6/3/8
11/11/8

Good times.

Terrorantula has changed alittle i think .

Well cause i never used to hunt this gigantic spider i cant tell you when . However now when u kill him about 20 bloodling spiders pop. Terrorantula himself drops bout 8 silks and a leg and a carapace no idea on anything but silks.
the spiders that pop from him bloodling teratulas or spiders not sure name, they drop silks as well which are the real booty and can drop as many as 4 and as few as one. Tailors can use to make some very nice armor for casters . Terrorantula has alot of hp but not as much as the named ghoul that some times pop in the same zone. As a lvl 70 i was never indanger but ghoul and the named desert mad man have a ton of hp's. If your a lvl 30 or lower turn and run a good group for either as they got some much hp. Ac does actually pop here have seen and gotten it no idea on the pop though it seems to be complicated. good luck )

Was searching South Ro with mu 36 Druid (looking for Ancient Cyclops) when I ran across this one (conned yellow). I combed the area several times using tracking so I don't think he was already there, was just attacking everything but spiders in the area. I switched to my 40 shamie (conned Dark Blue). Root and poison would not take, Sourge did. Had to pretend I was was Druid: Dot, Nuke, run! He rans fast, just under sow while my pet nipped at him. Took nearly all my mana but I took him down. Just got Tarantula Silk and Gargantuan legs. Anyone know of any use? He is huge, my Kitty can walk under him and sounds like an army marching. GL!
How to take him down
# Jun 23 2005 at 7:42 AM Rating: Decent
Killed this guy last night. Just kill all the tarantula spiders in the area and he'll spawn shortly after that. I only killed about 40 spiders to get him to spawn.

Interesting thing...I could not loot the corpse. I tied for 7mins to get the loot table up and could not. I killed zombies that happened by and easily looted them, but the big spider would not give it up. Don't really care, just mentioning it.

Agro range is absolutely huge; basically if he can see you, he's coming after you. He had a ton of HPs. My 53 Ranger fought him for about 2mins. He had well over 4000HPs. He peeled off about 1200HPs from me too.

He conned light blue to me. Don't cast on him as he casts poison spells VERY fast and continuously. Only one stuck to me. All of my Ranger spells stuck to him, not surprising considering my level. Just melee him down and you'll interrupt him casting. He hits slowly for 22-69 (my buffed AC was 1100+).

I was in the zone to get a quest NPC to spawn; Izera N'Kar. She likes/hates the spiders (or so I was told) so I thought that would bring her out. It did not work. I wanted to beat on her.

If anyone knows how to get her to make an appearance, please let me know.
desert tarantulas

I noticed that I saw two distinct waves of desert tarantulas spawning from the NW corner of the zone before I saw the Terrorantula. Kill all of the deserts that you see.
Cycle
# Jan 30 2004 at 6:00 AM Rating: Default
been killing a cycle, this guy popped in it once. Several terrorantulings popped in cycle too.
a sand mummy is part of cycle i can say, but you will need a tracker to see what spawns next. I have been getting pumas, and spiders in cycle.
I think they are random spawns in the cycle, but have chance of spawning this.
So just keep killing until you see a sand mummy, then you can start cycle.

This guy is one mean little bug, he has about 3-4k hp (counted up my nukes and pet damage, hits for about low 70 tops(he jumped me while i was medding) and procs weakpoisen, the same as the hatchlings exept it lasts a bit longer and does 6dd insted of 3. The loot is ok, got 3-6 silks each time and the legs all 5 times i dropped him. Just my input.

I think the strength of terroratula varies. Once he was a fairly tough fight to a 38 and 42 paladin, but we were at full health and almost full mana. The next time i saw him he was unstoppable, though he conned the same (blue to 38). He also looked a lot bigger than the first one. His agro range is tremendous, bigger than any mob i have run across yet.

He killed 4 of 5 people in the zone, with me being the only one to make it out (jboots). It seemed like he was using the corpses as bait, or his agro range covered like 15% of the zone. I had to zone 3 times to break agro just to drag corpses to the innothule line. Never would have made it without Jboots. I went back into the zone to do ressurections, but he was always on the attack before I ever noticed him in range. He is very sneaky for his size. No matter what you are hunting in S. Ro, keep your poison resist buffs up, cause terrorantula's poison is ferocious. I almost died from it after I made it to zone.

After the boredom of camping the AC it was a nice change of pace. Two Sand Giants popped at the same time Terrorantula was up. The zone got tough and exciting really quick, so we regrouped and got ready to take it. As we came back in buffed up and ready for action, we targeted Terrorantula... it despawned. Targeted SG... it despawned. Target other SG... same thing. Nothing but greens popped for 4 hours after that. S. Ro is such a frustrating camp.

Not a PH for AC for sure. Have seen both up a few times. However, if you do want him to spawn get your friendly neighbourhood wizzy to AE kill all spiders (and possibly scarabs) that roam the desert. Doing a run and fluxing all of them followed up by an AE blast that kills em all will put you in a cycle where spiders start poping 4 at a time at a spot and scuttle away trying to spread out over the desert. Keep massing them up and killing them. By doing this I had the Terrorantula as well as the new Terrorantuling spawn multiple times during the 2 or 3 hours I spent in SRO.
Got 17 silks or something like that in pretty much no time at all.
An interesting side note is that multipe times when I killed the Terrorantula his death was within seconds followed by a new multi-spawn of spiders.

Ah well, good luck killing the bugger,
It is on the same table as the AC, but there are TWO tables

Someone told me the secret was to kill all the spiders on the sand, as well as all pumas.

I did this when the zone was empty, so only I was killing. I killed all the spider types on the sand, as well as all pumas. I killed nothing else (to isolate what spawns what, though killing other stuff would not make a difference)

In killing them I found that you'd get more spiders and more pumas, pretty soon after you killed them all. One or the other might be enough alone, but killing both assures it and makes it faster. I then had Terrorantulas, terroantuallings, Sand Mummy and the AC spawn as alternates for pumas and spiders.

By tracking and killing all pumas and spiders, I got a terroantula, terrantulings, sand mummy and the AC each once (terroantulings twice I think) It took me just 55 minutes to go through all of them.

I had c3 and simply nuked any spiders or pumas I saw, with a sciorie and then my 49 damage root if that was not enough (56 druid) SO I kept the spawns going fast and furious.

The Terroantula (whom I have never seen personally except dead by the oasis zone) drops Terrorantula silks which, when combine with a platinum thread, vial of purified mana, and an imbued gem of your choice (if you are erudite of course) are used for Erudite Cultural Armor, which is called Steelsilk. There is a new mob in the desert now, the Terrorantualing which also drops Terrorantual silk. This makes it rather nice for collecting the silks as the big boy is a rare spawn (which rumor has it is an escapee from Fear plane, where he is a more common spawn). From a previous post here, which I no longer see, you need to loot him from the rear to get silks. I assume its the same for the baby ones as well. I have killed 5 of the babies so far, and the number of silks has ranged from 1-5, most recently 2 tonight. I do not know how to make him spawn, or them spawn, but i have spent some time killing all of the regular tarrantulas in the desert, which nets some regular silks so its not all wasted effort. I'm going to guess that with the upgrades to cultural armor (and prior to that, It was a toss up in my opinion over who had the best--Erudites or Dark Elves) Verant made it possible to gather more silks to make the upgraded versions more doable. I've seen the silks auctioned for 100pp apiece, and other than that, Erudite armor has to be the most expensive to hope for a successful combine on, considering the cost of platinum thread and the 4 rubies needed for a vial of purified mana. Figure around 700-800pp for each piece. I figure with the silks being more common now, that its likely the player-player price has dropped from the 100 that I have seen before, but who knows.

Terrorantula and the AC

I helped a fellow SK kill the terrorantula today because he thought it was a placeholder for the ancient cyclops. It was a tough kill, I had to use all of my bag of SK tricks, including a 391 damage harm touch. It had a LOT of hp's and hit hard. I am sure it isnt a placeholder for the AC though, because the terrorantula's were spawning like mad today, and I saw one at the same time as the AC. Nice exp for them, I got half a blue from one at level 39.

I agree on the Terrorantula isn't a PH.. I too have seen both up, I have also seen a SG up and seconds later with SG still up AC poped, NONE of the named mobs are on a spawn table... NONE

I was hunting SGs and saw this new entry: Terrorantula. I thought it might be a leftover surprise from Halloween, but from what I see here it was a regular mob...I've been hunting SRo for weeks and never saw it, so I think it may be a rare spawn--I've seen the AC more often.

It rooted well enough, it took four or five enveloping roots (94 dam/casting) and between six and eight Firestrikes (294 each). Best guess at hit points between 3000 and 3500. It has a shorter casting range than, say, an SG or most other mobs--if this is due to its size, the mob is roughly three times the diameter of an SG.

While hunting the Ac this morning, This bugger popped so i decided to give it a go, 42 necro full mana. Pulled with Dooming, Vamp Curse, fear, Scourge and VoS and he dropped no prob. Pet lost 1 1/2 bubbs and I was down to about 1/2 mana. Dropped 4 silks and the legs. Silks sold at De vendors for 3pp and legs for 1pp. As an aside I also saw Orbretl pop, was slaughtering everything in sight trying to get AC to pop so I don't know what triggers either of these.

Of course no one can know for sure, but I've been hunting for the AC in SRO a few times and this thing appears to have nothing with the AC to do. Quite the contrary there seems to be a separate cycle involving the Terrorantula and all small spiders and possibly the Scarabs too. Was quading spiders and scarabs to clear mobs. Not long after I started doing that I noticed fewer and fewer Scarabs and instead spiders seemed to pop in groups of as much as 5 at a time and scattering across the desert. A few more AOEs to clear them and pop, there was the Terrorantula, kited it to death and as soon as it died (within 1 minute) 4 spiders pop right where he fell and scatter away again. I let them be and started hunting other things and THEN the AC poped.

Also happened on the AC while the Terrorantula was up once. Got lucky that time as I was too low to really handle the Terrorantula but I was trying, then I see that baby like sillhuette over by the grass line, so I quickly zone to Oasis to clear Terrorantula agro, zone back, run across half the zone and no one else had engaged it. So I waxed AC while Terrorantula was up. Was spreading my nukes wildly among undeads, orcs, madmen and the like at that time, so I really have no clue what the possible trigger is, but I'm pretty sure that spiders and Scarabs are innocent when it comes to the AC.

And on a side note, I don't think the SG's affect his spawn either since I've seen AC and SG up at the same time on more than one occation.

Hope that helps

I was walking through South Ro with my pet tagging along, when all of a sudden a big, nasty spider started to attack me!! Smiley: yikes Well I turned and ran and let my pet smack on him. I cast Dooming Darkenss, then VoS, Scourge (resisted), Fear, Fear again (wore off quick), and Boil Blood. Fear wore off and he started attacking my pet again, tried to fear but he resisted. Kept hitting him with Torbas Acid Blast till my pet, poor guy, died. Smiley: cry Ran my little legs off and was far enough to FD, he lost agro, I stood up, recast a pet, buffed him quick and sent him in (spider was down to 2 bubbles of health). Pet took agro, I then hit him with Drain Spirit till he died. Smiley: yippee Got 4 silks and the legs, it was a fun fight and kinda hairy (not the legs, hehe) Smiley: grin

Poor guys died real quick. I could not save them. I barely saved myself.
