Two 45 mages?
# Jun 04 2002 at 12:13 PM Rating: Default
Could Two 45 mages take this guy out with ease? or should we not try at all
tons of hp
# Mar 12 2002 at 11:20 PM Rating: Decent
I soloed him as mage at 54, was lucky when i broke the room, he was not up. For a mage, he is far to be a piece of cake, does not really resist but takes a long time to kill, used air pet for him.

Even breaking the room when he is not up is quite difficult, u have to maintain 2 aggro on ur pet, no chance if 1 come on u, u re dead unless u can gate. Let pet build aggro and nukes the first one when really low hp, when dead, take care of the second. I did not take the chance to chain cast pet for magi or the 2 others, prefered heal pet.
Even with 200 int, magi will eat big part of mana and pet too.

Paladin Solo?
# Mar 08 2002 at 9:58 AM Rating: Default
Hey, FYI we Paladins can solo this guy...well maybe :)

I broke the room and staggered the spawns, then buffed/ med for Magi.

For you meleer's, here is what I buffed myself with: Normal AC/HP buffs, Knife, Valor of marr, MR buff added MR gear on, Resistant Disc - MR was 62 and FR was 32...poor I know. I have decent gear, DW stuff, Tweave and 30/36 axe. Ac was 930 with MR gear and hp's at 2200.

I cancelled Magic on him to get rid of his Rune then chain stunned him in between casts to delay his big bombs.. (first one hit me for 500) The most I was hit for after that was 250. -- Note: He will run out of mana or slow down his casting. I realized too late and should've kept some mana instead of stunning, maybe coulve rooted and used DW helm..

He hopped up on the bookcase and I should've backed up, because he put a string of hits on me. I had to use LOH and we meleed for a while. I had him down to 1/4 and he should've ran, but didn't...next thing I hear is death music.

I think if I saved some mana it would've been different. Very tough but very fun.

Ok, you have my interest. What is the trick? I know I should've conserved mana but besides that, how does a lvl 53 solo Magi/ Lord room?

Remember, I'm on another server than you :)

I'm now lvl 53 and with my new weap, it should't be as difficult.

Could I solo this spawn point at level 51 or would I get raped?
It can be done
# Jun 28 2002 at 1:36 AM Rating: Decent
I've been soloing this spawn point for the past two days, and I am a level 51 Necro. I can take both the magus and the knight at the same time, but its really tough, i have to take hits for my pet so he doesnt die. It's much easier to try and pull the knight first if you can, then magus a little later. Magus is pretty easy by himself if you cast the right spells (Shackle of spirit to slow him, Indsidious Retrogression to snare/slow him and DD also). Then use hungry earth if he tries to run.

Drop Rate
# Nov 28 2001 at 8:35 AM Rating: Default
The SMR drop rate is just like FBSS. Pretty random. And VI did NOT up the rates. I have camped lguk with both my chars (Frenzy and LAH camp) and the pop rate of the 2 mobs are real random. I have seen 4 sash drop in 6 hours,2 SMR in a hour and I have also seen days that it does not drop. Maybe it drops on the 10 hours I dun play (I play 14 hours a day) but I think the drop rate for this items and pop time of mobs are pure random luck and chance =)

Arch magus
# Nov 02 2001 at 3:39 AM Rating: Default
Soloed it yesterday for my epic, I'm a 54 enchanter. Most mobs where greens/low blues so breaking the 2 spawns room was cake, I just charmed one and let them fight, helped my pet to win then killed it. Just beware if you can't snare, when frogs are near death the will run through a secret wall and eventually aggro a frog there (happened to me, but I killed that frog easily).
After that I had 1 PH, and next I was sitting outside the room when I see "the ghoul arch magus" begins to cast a spell. I rush the room, but ack no frog in it. ******* cast invisibility on self, so I needed see invisible. I could pull solo as other frog in the room was already dead. Buffed myself with resist magic and rune 3, and pulled the frog with slow (was really careful not to die). Arch magus started trying to nuke me so I had time to land a mez. Then I know it would be just easy. I tashed and theft of thought the frog, then sat to be FM. Nuke, remez, nuke, remez, rinse and repeat... When I was low on mana I just kept the frog mezzed for a minute to med a bit, and eventually theft of thought. After 10 mins the fight was over and I looted my SMR :)
My camping experience
# Oct 22 2001 at 2:01 PM Rating: Decent
Myself (now a 48 druid) and a 53 monk took this camp Friday night.
Easy (very easy) camp for the 2 of us, provided LD was not a factor. I had 2 LD deaths, but got rezzed.
Anyway, AM (or PH) spawns in front of the book case, and a Knight spawns just in front of him.
They are both on 30min timers (from our experience), and spread them apart by 5 min.
Best thing to do is pull back down the hall..nothing aggros in the hall. Just be careful of the hole with the ladder (drop for 253hp average) The corner is the best bet...Snare to be sure he cant run. and Debuff if there is a fire shield. Other than that, the knights are easy, the wizards can be tough (fire/magic/cold buffs) and the AM can be a pain if not alone.
When bored, monk would pull from the main hall for fun..good exp for me, few blues to a 53....
The downside is that for us, 42 hours of camping starting Friday night through Sunday night, we had 7 AM's spawn (3 Friday, 4 Saturday, 0 Sunday), we got 2 Silversilk Leggings and no Robe.
Very discouraged, and after helping someone beat the FG, and get the FBSS to drop, he promised to get us the robe.
While I have read that AM spawns average 1 for every 5, and drops average 1 for every 6, we were no where near the averages. out of 42 hours, that is 84 spawns, and in 84 spawns, we had him 7 times, which is almost 1 for every 12, and no robe for 7 spawns.
I hope others have better luck with this camp. I am supposed to help another friend get hers later this week. I hope I have better luck next time.. = )

I soloed this guy the other night and he only seems to have around 5500 hp. It took 8 of my 715 damage undead nukes to put him out of commission.

Spawn
# Jun 08 2001 at 9:47 AM Rating: Default
Camped this guy last night for the better part of 5 hours and the Mage/Magus never even spawned once. Was hoping to get my hands on the robe for the Rogue epic but no such luck. We also killed the Lord while down there and he dropped, of course, the skull shaped barbute which we rolled on. Anyway, this guys spawn is COMPLETELY random. You could get 7 in a row or none at all. We happened to hit this room on a bad night I guess. He'll probably spawn a million times tonight because I wont be on, hehehe

OK first off, his name is
"the ghoul archmagus"
He's about lvl 44 or 45 and has about 8k hps so unless yer lvl 53+ you would have a very hard time soloing him.

Magus, frenzy, and supplier are the three camps that you can count on being camped, 99% of the time. So don't count on being able to swoop in and solo magus camp, because someone else will be there.

Magus is also the best area to pull mobs in the area to, and it's not that uncommon to be able to pull lord from this camp if you have a good tank or two.

Yesterday we camped all spawns in the area including lord and magus consisting of this group.
50 monk with 942 base ac - me
42 cleric with just cheal and superior heal.
41 enchanter
38 paladin - dunno his exact level but he sucked =)

Long as your killing exceeds your downtime and can consistantly pull, you can camp the 20 or so mobs that make up the magus / lord camp.

Only problem you'll find is when another group forms and moves into lord room and takes half yer spawns. then the exp goes into the toilet.

Anyway magus is 1 / 5 spawn directly in front of the book case in his room. Drops the robe about 1 / 6. Robe worth about 6k on my server at the moment, so camping for yk's and robe usually makes group happy.

Plan on getting a magus every 2 and a half hours on average and a robe only twice a day if yer lucky. Of course, some people get more than one a day or not even one. Average would suggest you to get 1 to 2 a day though.

Magus hits for 117 and casts lvl 44 wizard spells like the ae fire rain and gravity flux, which can be detrimental so keep resist magus up when its close to his spawn time.

He also casts invis on himself if he sits still long enough, so if you run into his room and dont see him, just wait a second; he might still be there to attack you.
Also...

The SMR is used in one of the Rogue epic side quests for one of the final 3 turn-ins you need to turn in 3 rare robes and one crappy one you need a Robe of the Ishiva, Kedge SMR and Oracle.

Min Lvl?
# Jan 02 2001 at 5:56 AM Rating: Default
Question...

I get conflicting reports on what lvl you should be to head down to try to get into a group for this robe.

Whats the min lvl for a mage? 40, 45?

Thanks all
RE: Min Lvl?
# Jan 26 2001 at 2:08 AM Rating: Default
Well, first off, no one just camps the magus, unless for pharming. He is usually pulled by lord, sometimes frenzy. That range u said is correct, 40+ for frenzy group, 45+ for lord group, and 55+ to pharm:)

I play a lvl 52 ench, and I have soloed this guy. It took awhile but it's doable. Lots of mana drains, roots, nukes and an occasional mez/med break. Just FYI

I've only killed this guy 3 times, never dropped smr. He isn't that tough, just seems like a normal wizzy in guk, not hard for his lvl. I know his name is magus, suggesting a mage, but he has no pet, and doesn't summon.

I don't know everything about this mob (for once, I know) and feel free to correct me if I am wrong.
1. The Archmagi (******* took my name, I took his robe. =) spawns to the right of the Ghoul Lord Room, if you are facing the Lord's Thrown.
2. Magi comes with two buddies. Usually wizards.
3. Drops Silversilk Leggings (16p on VZ, 200 on Mith Marr. What the hell?)
4. The Archmagi has a lotta HP...approx. 8000 to 9000. Hits for about 100. Casts fun spells such as Gravity Flux.
5. Normally camped by the Lord Group.
Any other questions, comments, or flames may be directed to my adress, ArchMahgi@aol.com, where they will be summarily ignored. Thank you.

Just one comment, the Archmagus spawns with one buddy, almost always a dar knight in front of it, its placeholders are kor and rarely jin wizards, the other buddy you're referring to is in the secret passage to the side of his room and always a dar knight, but his room can be pulled with only the room coming and not the secret passage knight.

With a 46cleric, 46mage,46warrior, 44enc,37rog, and 44mage(me) we stomped this guy. I dont think he has all that many hit points because we dropped him very fast. He seems to be rarer spawn than the ghoul lord though, who we were camping at the same time.

hail all i have seen some of the conversations regarding robes and int i am currently lvl 25 with 190 all i need is a plat shapfire nexlace, gator scale arms and a braided cintch cord to max int so i have a question should i try to get this robe for the int + or try to get the kk robe for its mana addition cause i can prolly max my int without a robe item

#Anonymous, Posted: Jul 11 2000 at 4:41 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Whats up with you tards at the top saying you wouldnt like to use this robe, this is a GREAT robe and you people are makin no sense once so ever. If you would rather have another robe than this awesome peice of equipment, then give me the SMR, i could use it and you guys can just keep talkin about how the robe of the kedge is better) just to let you know, this robe is WAY easier to get than the Kedge robe
RE: .....
# Nov 27 2000 at 7:02 PM Rating: Default
the point is, if you dont need the int, you dont need the robe. the resistence is nice, though. kedge robe, if u can get it, has great mana for already-maxed-int casters... i was sensing some flames, had to cool them with a compromise

If you get more int in the robe slot, you can get better items w/ other stats in other slots, I.E. resists and the like.
