With the rework they did on mob classifications, these can now be charmed by druids. Confirmed 6/4/22 on Yelinak TLP.
Master Rune (Beza)

If you are working on your Master Runes, then you are a fool.

With that in mind, I went to Unrest looking for Giant Fire Beetle Eyes for my Master Runes (Beza).

I was disappointed to find zero eyes, culled from about...oh twenty beetles.

Even the name "Death Beetle" is a misnomer, seeing how the 'Beetles' only drop Scarab Parts (e.g. carapace, legs, egg sack, etc).

Of course they may drop Giant Fire Beetle Eyes, but more than likely their loot tables were mixed up seeing how they are fairly similar.

Remember to drink heavily before you research; you can glean more pain that way.

As an addendum to this, a 'Giant Scarab Eye' just dropped off of the twentieth or so Death Beetle. Though this is not a used for Master Runes, they are used for Study Runes (Azia).

If you are indeed looking for Giant Scarab Eyes, I would recommend the southern end of North Ro. You can force spawn Sand Scarabs by killing everything that moves.

About 1 in 10 to 20 Sand Scarabs drop a 'Giant Scarab Eye'.
Unrest's secret weapon
# Jun 26 2003 at 2:56 PM Rating: Decent
When I hit lv18 with my cleric I started asking people where I should go for exp next. Everyone said "Paludal!" but I didn't have the expansion at that time, so as an alternative I heard people mumble out "ummm... Unrest, I guess."

I headed to Unrest and ran around fighting yard mobs for a while, and I have to say that Death Beetles are the most dangerous creatures in Unrest for a solo cleric. Why? Because they aggro on you like NUTS and they hit just often enough (not hard, but often) to ruin your heals and Smites when you're trying to take down that stubborn ghoul or skelly.

Your casting is interrupted!

The only good thing I noticed was that they stopped aggroing on me once I hit LV20...

the armor has 14 ac, +10 hp, -1 dex, and some other stuff, anly short classes can use it. it looks good so i can see a 31 druid putting it on at social events or something which is what i think the guy was talking about.

Anyone found a use for these other than selling them?

They're used for Rogues I think. Ingredients in poison. Although I could be wrong. For a cleric, they're just exchangeable for gold. :)

[ Grave Mold ] is also a poison ingredient. :) If you have ever tried to buy poison components, it sucks.

Why hunt in Unrest?
# Dec 03 2001 at 10:44 PM Rating: Default
If these guys bother you so much find another place to lvl, like NRO, or the Oasis. Both places have pretty good loot, like Bronze weapons, and sometimes the Dervs drop jewels which can sell for 5pp alone. Dont get me wrong, if your leveling out in the yard, just go to NRo or Oasis for better fighting and less aggro, but its a different story for higher lvls, inside the mansion is a great place for 20's. I think lower teen lvls can find a better place to fight.

The tormented dead also carry these items, and they are excellent loot. When my lvl 21 warrior cant find a group, i kill the trash just for them.
Carapaces and other Loot
# Jul 17 2000 at 2:18 PM Rating: Decent
While these things are terribly annoying and potentially deadly, they can be excellent experience at level 14 or so in a good group. Besides that, they drop pristine carapaces and the never-mentioned but strangely-named fungus the Amanita Phalloide, which, to my mind, constitutes excellent loot- weight .1, stackable, common drop, sells for more than 7 gold apiece. I made quite a haul in a very short time selling these to the merchants.

There is nothing in the world i hate more than to kill off @ lvl 15 (with a group) 2 red conning gouls and two yellow jacks (and survive, woohoo, though with not much HP) only to be nickel and dimed to death by these lowly formed creatures. Its just irritating to walk all the way from the Gfay zone to unrest knowing that you were killed by some lvl 10 BUG!!!! GRRRR!!!!!! I REALLY need to give my char some "bug-be-gone" hehe =)
Bug spray
# Jun 19 2000 at 5:01 PM Rating: Default
These are THE most annoying MOB on norrath! They don't stop helping undead in fights by level 20, and there's so #$^% many of them! I think the gnome tinkering skill should be able to make somthing like 'a can of bug spray' that would cast an AoE that gets rid of these things. A gnome could make hundreds of plat in unrest selling it.
Why get scarab armor?
# Apr 17 2000 at 10:54 AM Rating: Decent
I'm a level 31 druid, and I still have my set of scarab armor. I wear it when I want to wear something that doesn't look like leather -- it looks like green plate. Very nice! Also, the scarab boots make your feet look green when you're in wolf form. I hunted in Unrest for a long time for the Pristine Carapace, and I finally got one there and another back in Misty Thicket.

I have gotten two of these in three nights. I turned them in for the BP hoping it would be worth something to smaller races but the stats stink. Could the BP be for some other quest?
