You need to take a statistics course. And I would not suggest you gamble.
A 50% chance is just that. You roll the dice and take your chances. 10 failures out of 10 is not indicitive of something other that a 50% chance (I am theorizing here so 50% is not what I think the chance of a TS bow is).
Having dexterity enhanced, and fletching high, will improve chances, but still a chance. So do your best with what you have.

I've noticed these things come in different sizes: Does every size drop microservos, or just the big ones? Where are big ones found in Steamfont?

Rogue Clockworks definitely do exist: Low lvls found near entrance to LFay, med lvls between there and the windmills and upper lvls back toward Minotaur caves. All three drop the servo.

The "A" means that the mob is one of the gnome clockworks, rather than a spider clockwork. "A Rogue Clockwork" doesn't exist, but "A Runaway Clockwork" or "A Rebel Clockwork" are both gnomes, while "Runaway Clockwork" and "Rogue Clockwork" are both spiders. Basically, if you're looking for a clockwork spider to drop micro servos, don't go for the ones with "A" in front of the name.
Large ones are found in the north east section of Steamfont, near the entrance to the Minotaur Mines. Follow the path out of Ak'Anon, heading to the right. You will find 3 windmills in a row. Go straight on using the windmills as your line, and you will run into the area with the giant clockworks, harpies, ebon drakes, and minotaur slavers.
The spider version does drop the microservos and the microservers, as well as the leg section needed for the Gnome Shadow Knight armor, rusted black boxes, size 4,5, and 6 gears and gizmos, and scrap metal (stackable, droppable. Not the ones needed for the Duster V and X quest). But be careful: the yellow recluse spiders WILL add on if you attack one of the spider form clockworks.
There are also the humanoid form clockworks running around this area, but I can't remember if they drop the same loot or not.

I managed to fletch my own Trueshot at lvl 16 with a fletching skill of 122. I fletched it on my first try - however - I found a high lvl shaman and begged him for some dexterity buffs. With my dexterity over 200! I was able to fletch this sucker no problem. No doubt there are better bows in Norrath - but - I love my Trueshot.
I am critting at 44 with the most basic of arrows -and many times i can 22 dmg per arrow 3 times in a row when i am pulling a given NPC.
The Micro Servos are the hardest part of this quest. The clockworks are slow to spawn and there doesn't seem to be any trigger. What I found out though is if there are alot of people hunting outside of the mino caves and turning over all of the NPCs spawns then the clockworks start to come at a good pace. When I am hunting without anyone else in the area the clockworks spawn extremly slow. Plan on getting maybe 5 Micro Servos for every 3 hours u are there - if u are lucky. Anyway - This was my first big quest I did (ranger is my 1st char) and I loved it - slow at times and frusturating with the fletching till i figured out the dexterity buff - but the reward is well worth it.

Spent 5 hours hunting these things last night (lvl 18 ranger) and got 7 whole sevos ... whoopie. I collected a whole stack of em last time and still failed to make the trueshot with my 101 fletching. These things are horible spawns and this quest has wasted a huge amount of time for no payoff. This friggen bow better drop giants!
Another peeve with this quest is that it tells you to do it as soon as you create a brand new ranger. This ranger is my first char with eq and i wasted hours messen with this only to find out later that I shoulnd even think about this quest for some time. Im at the point now that I wish I would have never started it to being with.

I am a lvl 30 ranger w/ 148 fletching and have failed 5 times so far. So if you want a TS get your skill way up of be ready to fight these things for a lomg time.

I think he is confusing the Ranger epic quest with the Trueshot. There is indeed a DE corruptor in EK (same one for both the Ranger and Druid epics) that you have to kill. But again, it is for the epic quest, not the Trueshot.
I am in a quandry about black box fragments. I need to go back to check what he says, but the Compolten NPC mentions black boxes (not rusty or fragments), and to turn them in to 'Captain Compolten'. I have quite a few black box fragments, but no rusty ones..but in any case, I cannot find Captain Compolten. I did turn in two of the black box fragments to Manik Compolten and got nothing. Elsewhere, using the black box fragments as the search, it returned two quests in Kaladim.
As yet, I have not looted any rusty black boxes, so can't say if they exist or not, or that is what is needed for the quest with Compolten.

to all you 1-50 rangers to do this quest you have to to fight a dark elf monster npc to get a piece for this quest so even if you did the rest of it beg somebody for help so he or she can help you kill him becuase he will wipe your butt for you thats a great piece of information that you people need to know so spread it around

The fletching skill required for the trueshot longbow is apporx 100 to get a 50% success rate. Just thought I'd toss that out there, good luck.

actually this bow trivials at 235 so if you have only 101 skill you will have less than 50% chance to make it
Indeed, FYI bollocks - I've had around 20 tries at fletching the bow from 102-120, and nothing yet, so it's nothing like a 50% chance. Don't post crap which will build people's hopes up.

If you are supposed to be able to fight these things as low as level 3, could someone possibly explain to me why my level 5 enchanter died fighting them last night and she was completely buffed by a higher level spell caster? I would like to say the caster was probably druid since he was able to cast SoW on me and I don't think any other classes get that spell.

First druids are not the only class able to cast SoW..... shaman actually get it earlier than druids and 30+ rangers get it too.
Concerning your death at the hands of one of these things..... the level range is 3 to 10 a level ten mob will con tombstone to you and i reckon no matter how buffed you are it is still gunna swallow you whole without even a pause.

Gizmo's and sprockets are for the gnomish racial skill tinkering. They use them to make all kinds of groovy magical/mechanical armour.

This may be unrelated,but may concern all.....Is there a chance lucky loots are affected by personal stats? Perhaps charm? Or is it like "Power Hour" on UO? I've heard people bragging about getting lots of loot and others whining about not getting diddly-squat. It's just a thought...

For the last 3 days i have been hunting rogue clockworks for the micro servo, and they only really seem to spawn during the day. There are a few that spawn at night, but most during the day.
But in reply to the "Triggered Spawn" question, I know how you feel! sometimes they spawn like crazy and other times they don't spawn at all. Perhaps the elementals have a shared place holding with the clockworks? dunno just a thought. But as far a gathering MS's. It's just a matter of luck, somtimes they drop like crazy and other times they don't at all. Good Hunting!

As far as factions being hit it does not need to be worried about unless you attack a 'runaway clockwork' instead of a rogue clockwork

Ummm... as far as I've seen, runaway, rogue, and rebel clockworks are all on the same faction. Faction drops much more slowly than most with each kill, but it does drop. I've killed 50+ and I'm still apprehensive.

When I went there earlier tonight they were everywhere, but I only got a couple of the Micro Servo's to drop. I then went back later and had the whole place to myself for over an hour. I could only find a couple of the Rogue Clockworks and sadly I only got one Micro Servo before the servers went down for a patch.

I am a ranger. I want the trueshot. I hunted these things for a very very long time. I had a nightmare about one last night. It tryed to kill me. I got my trueshot...no...more...spiders!!!

i have killed about 20 of these and almost all of them have droped the microserver and also either blackbox fragment or scrap metle.. i have a few stacks of them for my ranger now :)

I've slayed about 8 of these things (and died twice) at lvl 5 on the trueshot quest. Not one of them has dropped a Micro servo, do I need to be a higher lvl for themt o drop micro servos?

Watch out if you back up or run too far with one of these on your tail, any runaway clockworks, spiderlings, other rogue clockworks, and/or rogue cleaners will join the fight. I once was mobbed by 9 spiderlings and this, but if youre level 7+ you're ok, or if you have Skin Like Diamond buff on, youre ok. If not, just keep an eye out, especially for rogue cleaners, they tend to multiply extremely quickly.

Do you get negative faction hits in AkAnon for these guys? or is that just for regular clockworks? My party disbanded and let me die rather than take a faction hit. I was, umm, not pleased. Anyone?

NO, you do not lose any faction of any kind when killing these things. They have a dying message "this unit damged beyond repair, broadcasting to other units" or somehting like that but there is no faction hits when killing the rouge clockworks. I would assume you would get hits from regualr clockworks but I have never seen anyone brave enough to fight them inside the city as of yet.

These also drop Black box fragments. I don't know what they're for. Also, in my opinion, they're tied with pumas for the coolest sounding mobs in Norath :) (them and all their clockwork buddies)

The Black Box Fragments can be turned in at Kaladim to the Rogues guild for the Cleaner VII quest if you have good enough faction.

Drops Scrap metal. Get 4 of those and turn them in for great faction, exp, and occasional odd items (like a gnome glow rod). Also drop blackboxes. Social, will help each other. The little rogue cleaners have a HUGE aggro radius, so you'll attack one of these clockworks then start seeing cleaners hopping the hills to take you out.
