What kind of Charmed pet would be useful to fight against this guy? I attempted my own pet at level 22 and have had mixed results, mostly ending in my own death.
Any input from other Enchanters would be appreciated.
Fre weeks ago was camping QM for a mage, and all of a sudden theres a shout "The hermit shall be hurt no more" or around like that, and 3 druids popped up. Now I guess either something I've never seen or GM event, because earlier, 3 GMs were in the zone, and when I moved out of spell range druids ducked to interrupt casting. All were lb to 45ish, and when I shouted "I will protect the hermit" they didn't attack...and I and some buds killed him, one dropped Charred Guardian Shield, Blackened Ebony mace (or something along those lines) and something else I can't remember. After that nothing special...apparently the shout about the hermit was heard in PoK too
I decided to try the hermit with my level 24 sk, saw the two wolves and decided 'They're only blue, what harm can they do?' They hit hard for their con, 42 consitantly, was glad I had SoW and ran like hell, they stayed with me till I got to North Karana zone line, so, fun run speed. Logging on my druid to have some revenge. Also, he was out of his house when I found him.
I never camped hermit when I was young. I always heard of necros and the like doing it.
I suppose it was easier then.
Now these dogs bit HARD. They hit for 42 on my 25 necro. They can not be feared. You can mez them and snare them though.
They run fast too but slightly slower than SoW.
You can not harmony / pacify the wolves or the hermit either.
It took two pets just to kill the hermit.
The second time around I prox aggroed him. He warped out, my pet started in on him, then the wolves came after me. While I ran them around with SoW, my pet killed him.
Then I had pet get both, mezd one, realized my health had been chomped down to 25%, ran the other around, pet died, mez one again, finished off other with LTs and finally snare, then FD the other off.
Hum I do not know him to be easy anymore. I asked my friends to help me to kill him cause last time I came to him there was some annoyin Red gnoll. We killed him well but his pups got us, and as he spawn quick it was a hell to run corpse.
Still I confirm he must be 20, as he con blue to me at 21...

Correction: I killed him by myself, with CoD, DDD and Hymn, without any problem. Here the way: - First make several try to his house, till there is no big bad redie gnoll. Their pathing end here, I don't know if it is volontarily or not. - Second I couldn't reduce the agro of the Hermitt neither of its wolfs, my song stopped strangely all the time. So I tried to Mesmerize a wolf, which pulled the Hemit. - Third I didn't beat anybody, just ran far from the house. Only the hermit followed, guess because I didn't beat(?) anybody. - Then out of all it was easy to beat the Hermit.
The quest associated, the winds of Karana, is crappy (a flute weigthinh 10 stones ?!) but I was frustrated not being able to kill this vile hermit. Now I will head to Lake of Ill Omen, which is supposed to be much better XP at this level.

I used to camp hermit with my druid 21 4 months ago, so i brough my 20 Wizzy and a friend ranger 22 to camp him - got a nasty surprise!!! He has 2 hounds now and they together killed us in 3-4 mins, couldn't even root any of them. Obviously big changes were made. He is not lvl 20 anymore.
You might ask, "Why would you come to The Hermitage when you can whip through the levels in Paludal Caverns?" The answer is - to build combat skills. In Paludal sometimes you level so fast that you barely have time to keep up with the skills, but the Hermit is ideal for making up any slacking skills.
I must admit that the Hermit is probably my favorite target in the early to middle 20s. He's still dark blue at 26 so you can spend a long time here. Here's what I can tell you about the Hermit:
- Is a ranger and casts grasping roots, burst of fire, flame lick, and skin like wood (root being the most dangerous) - To target him type /target a hermit and then cast or shoot him through the door - Location is approximately -5400 -2600 in South Karana - Drops various coin amounts from silver coins to a couple platinum - Drops fine steel when he wields a weapon - Spawn time is 3 1/2 minutes!
Visit The Hermitage to improve your combat skills.
Saw the posts below and thought I would try this camp with my Troll SK.
Stayed tight up to the house and heard the gnolls wander off. The Sentry Alechin says 'What nonesense is this ... etc' and proceeds to beat the smeg out of me.
Luckily I got to the the hill outside so my shadow step could get me enough room to run for LR zone.
Watch out for the Sentry, even if you are inside the wall!
A good way to get him out of his house : target him with /target a_hermit and then use the spell "cancel magic" on him... it will get his skin like wood out, and he will go out to fight immediatly.
I've solo'd the hemit from lvl 19 with my Mage and 20 with my Wiz, good point about the wandering Gnolls. I found the safest spot to sit and med was on top of the house, jump on the barrels next to the house, then onto the house seems to keep you outa trouble. I would'nt bother camping him past 21 max 22 there are better solo exp camps out there, It's just up to you to find them <p>
As I was medding on the roof, High Shaman Grinok (or whatever) aggro'd on me. As a 23 mage, he was yellow. He cast malise on me, then nuked me for about 140. I made Jabober attack, but he kept casting on me. Since I was rooted on the roof, I kept casting my highest shock spell, and eventually killed him.
I was down to 1 bub health and 1/2 bub mana afterwards, so the resulting downtime really sucked.
Moral of this story: If you are going to med on the roof, use your F9 views to keep an eye out for trouble.
He's a druid so he'll caast on yeah but 14... would NOT recommend it. We get some nasty DD spells at 19 and it would be best if you think that he has them as well cause 2 nukes and a DoT after rooting and another druid would be laughing as your life slowly dwindled away while you cast much lower damage spells.... well maybe not that slowly since I solo griffawns that way.
Unless you befriend a creature and make it the target so you can cast nukes on him and got really big cajones one should not try at 14, unless you get a couple friends then give it a shot but you'll be medding long past his respawn and shield.

I've tanned this guy's butt for a couple of levels now (pal from levs 23 to 25). Easy Exp for sure - don't agree about comments below saying that the loot is good, he has a fine steel sword about 1 time in 10, and the rest of the time you normally get a few gold or silver (occassionally a pp or two). But it is easy and safe levelling, if a little boring, and perhaps outside the spirit of the game. I like to beat him up during the night, and hunt the birds during the day (don't like hunting outside at night much, and his house is always lit). A couple of tips:
- The wandering gnolls are no problem at all as long as you stay away from the outside wall, and hug the house. I've heard them many times, but if they can't reach from outside the wall they wander off.
- It is useful to catch him before he casts his shield. 3 mins after he last died, wait in the corner on the left side of the chimney, tight in as you can and facing the house, and sit and stand repeatedly. That way you can see clearly inside the house, and catch him with a "/targ e_herm" and "kill you" as soon as he pops. You can then wop him throught the wall, and move back at some point to pull him out.
- If you do kill him inside the house, you can use the sit/stand method to loot his corpse.
lev 24 wiz on povar here Zantral is the name . I came accros his hut one day and watched a nec and a cleric take him down a few times then they handed off the camp to me. his spells are pathetic and his melee is too with leatherskin and magor shielding i can solo him with no problem i was oom once and short on time since im human and hit for 19-24 with my staff of writhing i meleed him to death. all in all he is easyer than Cordellia Minster to solo she doubles for the 40's. the hermit has never hit me for more than 28 so i assume hes just a big wuss. cast in this order for quick death Root, Lightning Storm, Frost shock, and either fire bolt or depending on how many times he resisted lightning storm Lightning Bolt. he casts infrequently and he does have a dam shld but it sucks too so if ur a brave wiz u can solo him at 24 and u can take him at levels 20-23 with another person but i dont recomend soloing him below 24 only reason i could is cuz my melee is so strong 90 1hb and staff is 9 33 to bad the effect wont proc till 29 but by then i'll have the staff of the wheel and wont be meleeing any more. well thats my 2 cp or was the 1pp by the length of this post lol
This guy is a easy camp with only one or two drawbacks. First there is a Gnoll that wanders in to the area randomly it seems and secondly every once in awhile so does shaman rex'ren. those are the only negatives I could see. they are both in the 25 and up rnage I think so they do pose a risk but not much if you are carefull. The hermit spawns exactly three minutes aafter his last death. when he pops he will cast a damage shield but you can pull him before he casts it. I would highly recomend doing this as it will save you a lot of time sitting to heal or mana casting heals. to pull him target him through the crack in the door or by using /target a_hermit and say "kill you" in any context, which can be very funny. Anyways have fun loot and exp from him is excellent as his spawn time is so short and he is always level 20.
this guy is an easy solo for my 16 necro, i pull with heat blood, send pet in, heart flutter, leach then go in and meele and siphon life when i can, i loose 2 to 4 bubs of mana during fight and almost always end up at full HP i can med back to full b4 he repops. I am a twinked (178INT around 330HP, 200AC 75 thru 100 on stats other than CHA and INT) but i think a 16 enc/mage/necro non twink could camp u would have more downtime tho Ozzudain 33 ranger Ozzyozz 17 necromancer both on Drinal server
this my friend is the best thing to hunt atL25. i went from L25(soloing warrior) to L26 in less than a hourand a half. the loot aint bad eather, quest sheet music, cracked loot for another quest, 3fs weapons out of 10 kills, occasinal words/runes, and around 1pp per kills sometimes even 3pp. the only thing you need to watch for is a gnoll(L25-29) that wounders into the house ocasinaly, and if you dont know how to target someone there is a crack in the door so you can solect him and then you must sya say/ i will kill you, jsut fyi.
I found this guy very good to solo for a wizzy at 25. You may be able to do my tactic earlier as well. I got a full level 25-26 and 100 pp in about 4.5 hours, with no deaths. I sat with my back to the wall, inside the compound at the chimney end. Whenever the hermit spawned I would see a message that he cast a damage shield. I had a hot key set up /target a_hermit as soon as I saw the message I would click it and target him inside the house. I would then chain cast shock of frost on him. I could usually get two cast before he even gets out of the house. Two more shock of frost or one mor shock of frost and a flameshock would kill him. (he has about 500 HP and hits for between 5 - 30) If he dies inside the house his corpse is just around the corner to the left form the chimney. I kept gate and root memmed as every now and then a nasty would show up. I would root it and TP out. Then gate back in, I was bound at the entracne to the compound.
Even though you don't get magic, and he does hit hard, I think you could kill him, then spend the time it takes for him to respawn by healing up a bit.
I would like to say that this is a wonderful camp! The spawn time for the hermit is around thre minutes, just enough time to med up :) I find it easy to solo him by kiting him. You dont even need to leave the confines of the walls. I've been killing the hermit for a long time now. I'm a lvl 27 druid and get about a full yellow bub of exp in little over an hour. Great camp for the twenties. If you are interested in better, dont care about faction, and arnt KOS in erudin kill Tol Nicelot at the top of the library. The max cash I got off him was 8pp 11gp. Nice loot for a 20ish MOB and he is hardly ever camped. Good Luck to you all.
Use the phrase to pull him and get hit. Fear, dot, nuke and refear as needed. Your trusty pet will chew him up. The DS is not too bad since you nuke hard.
I was camping this guy on the Luclin server today, well, pretty much all day. Excellent exp and loot, but all of the sudden three guys (2 guys and a cute wood elf) with light-blue npc names came up and started harassing me. At first i thought they were regular guys (PC's with dark blue names) until they killed my pet. They claimed to be the "Unkempt Druids" (they were all druids) come to avenge the death of their brother. These guys were obviously GM's with too much time on their hands. I started talking to them, but they never stopped roleplaying saying that they were blessed by tunare to help nature... blah blah blah. they promised not to kill me if i promised not to kill the hermit anymore and to tell the people in the zone not to kill the hermit. i /shouted to tell the people as they wished, and then i shouted to the rest of the zone that there were gm's at the hermits house and a guild called the praetors started attacking them. they could have won but the gm's made it so that pc's couldnt attack them. everyone made up in the end and i made out with a few new friends and a few new nme's. because of my loyalty to teh unkempt druids, one of them even gave me their weapon, a 28/8 emblazed (or something) black mace (pretty nice, but i cant use). well, long story short, gm's have way too much time on their hands.
Raevile high-elf mage of the 20th inhuman waste of time
OK, here's the info needed to get the hermit. I find that targeting him through the crack in the door works well, then go to the back of the house (still inside walls though) look at the chimney, and walk to the right side of it. Get as close to the house as you can, and then attack. He will come to you after that. What he drops is a cracked flute (i saw two while killing him 5 times), winds of karana page 1, and then sometimes fine steel weapons (worth about 4 to 6 plat depending on you faction and charisma). Then if you are a caster and are worried about medding, and missing him spawn back up, don't worry. He casts a damage shield on himself right when he spawns, so you will hear when he's back. He casts burst of fire, that was hitting me for around 15pts a time, and his DS is worthless. He does root though, so if you are a melee fighter, and you get him low enough he will run, so this may pose a problem, meaning you wont be able to chase him while you are rooted. That is about it. I hope this helps you all.
Culbert, Monk of the Tribunal Server Order of the Dragon's Claw
Stand outside his house, but inside the wall. Right next to the chimney works best.
/target a_hermit
Pretty easy for a druid to kite from 19 on, exp starts getting slow and boring at around 25. Just make sure to keep Grasping Roots memorized so you can root him back if he roots you.
Easy, good exp, and when I killed him, no faction. Herm, kinda screwy. Anyways, I kited him with no problems at all. He got 3 hits on me, about 28 each, and 3 spells (Burst of fire... yeah, 15 point dd). Only hard part is getting him from his little house out into the open to kite him proper. Anywho, a warrior friend said it was really easy at 19. So, kill this guy alot!
Nevermind that bind question, i remembered i can get bound at the Arena hehe.. Just have to know if I can handle him before I get bound all the way down there for nothing.
the best way to kill the hermit is kiting him solo (im a druid) or with a partner (druid, mage, wiz, or chanter work well the way i see it), but you can use your own methods if you like. pulling him using the door crack technique (see above messages) is the safest way, but watch out, cause sometimes he goes from inside the house to instantly right on top of you when pulled from outside. he hits at max from 30s to 40s, depending on if he has a weap. he drops up to 2pp but usually less, and occasionally fs weaps (!) and research pages, and usually drops either or both of: cracked flute and words of karana p1, both for a bard quest. killing the him does not cause faction changes, he only babbles some crap about vengaence. he respawns 2 mins after he is killed, which is why having a partner is good. i easily used almost all of my mana each bout. get some manacrack. he may con lvl 20, but he gives really really good exp, making him one of the best hunting choices at this level.
i hope this info helps you out. happy hunting - Sariladen, Druid of <WSL>, Morell-Thule
Well, I dont know what happened but if you kill him its GOOD faction with the unkempt druid for some odd reason Ive gotten "considers me kindly" with them(go figure) Im a druid who killed him from like 19-23 or so and hes not been fixed since the beta version of EQ(go figure varent....) So its most of the time really easy for 18-23 or so to get exp from him.....and pulling through walls? NOT illegal according to IG hunting!
Also, all you have to say is "kill you" and you can not have to target him through the crack in the door....just go up to the chimminy nearest to the door and say "kill you"....thats it....hes agroed on me lots of times after I say that....and all you have to do with a druid is snare and root....dot and nuke if ya have the mana ^_^!
Watch out, because once you say your gonna kill him, when ever you go near his house after that he'll be KOS to you, at least he was to me....maybe cuz im an Iksar Necro, hmmmmm everyone seems to ALWAYS be KOS to me.....
You are KOS to him because you are a Necro, not sure what his standing is with iksar, but all necros are kos. I have camped him with a mage and a bard, and never was Kos even after killing him for 5 or so lvls.
The key to surviving this experence, is to set your bind point far enough outside the hermits house, so when the gnoll does come you can allow your pet to take the hits, while you make a escape with your gate spell. I have found that i have plenty of time to do this and avoid getting killed by that nasty little gnoll. I always keep my gate spell on my spell bar. I would suggest you do the same. BTW I have been soloing the hermit since 19, and dont plan to stop untill at least 25. ( im 24 now.) The spawn time is great along with the loot. Much better than fighting for aviaks. )
I started camping him at lvl 16 with my mage, he is an easy kill if you do it right. Go up to the front and select him through the door, run back to the wall behind the chimney and tell your pet to attack. While the pet is attacking him he is stuck inside the house and you can nuke him as much as you want, he cant come after you. Make sure to constantly check you pets HP and if it gets to low, run up and take some hits for it. 1.5 easy bubs of xp till lvl 19 or so. Enjoy
He will Respawn 2 Min after death. I think he is naturally Dubious to pretty much everyone. No faction. I am a DE necro and hunted him with an Ogre SK. He never attacked until provoked.
If you are level 20 with 175int and some mana Items (enchanter) you will or should spend about 60% of your mana on this guy. With Breeze in effect, He will spawn before you are fm again.
#Anonymous,
Posted:Nov 19 2000 at 5:10 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) if you dont want to keep saying that gay phrase you can always peek through his door lol you can just see him there, then click and snare/nuke whatever you need hehe
True but for awhile they took that out and the door was completely shut, but lately it seems they reopened it again. Not sure why they did that but it USED to be fully closed awhile ago. )
To answer a previous question, the hermit hits for a max of 42. His melee skills seem to improve substantially when he carries his FS, which is always a short sword, long sword or 2H. For 19 and 20 necros, he is possibly the easiest yellow/even con u will face in the game. Either walk to the wall, and he hits you, or say the key phrase "kill you." Sometimes he doesn't come out of the wall, so walk to the door and stand in front of it. Cast heat blood, darkness, and when he comes at you fear. Also, I know that casters have to med, but put your pets on guard so they will point to the nearest enemy. This should help you spot the gnoll earlier and prevent something nasty, because they have between 800-950 hp and hit for a max of 64. They also resist all spells heavily until lvl 24.
Ok this has nothig to do with the hermit..ok but just a littlwe earlier someone said the keywords were KILL and YOU so i was wandering just to be funny could you put in..........."So YOU like to KILL ravenous Hamburgers" would that work?
I'm level 26, a magician. This morning I was camping the hermit. In around 45 minutes I got almost a bubble of exp (mostly because, at 26, he's so easy to kill, that it barely taxes my resources, and I can meditate more than enough mana to kill him the next time).
I don't know if he'll give mana at 27, but at 26, it's still VERY fast exp.
The Tesch Mal seems to be an attempt to make the hermit more difficult to camp. Last night my partner and I ended up having to fight him 4 times. When he is level 25-28 he is easy to kite and burn, but if he is an especially tough spawn he can be difficult to deal with. Especially by the typical folks that would camp here (22nd level druid, 19th level enchanter.
I noticed that a Tes Mal Gnoll (or something like it) Will sometimes wander down, stand by the BACK of the wall. Then run inside the castle and stand there for a little while. Then he runs off. A nice little suprise for a low 20's not expecting it. If you are inside and don't know he is there you will be running since they are Yellow to a 24. That make traking all that more useful :). The Gnoll and the hermit will be there together sometimes.
You will be better off waiting a level. I, 20th enchanter, get away with about 50% health and pet next to nothing...hits in the range for max of 35 to 48 and sometimes double attacks.
He will also have thorns up...so for a wiz I strongly suggest root and nuke, and hope you have enough mana to burn him to the ground. He has a somewhat high resistance to magic attacks. I, chanter, cast Tashani on him to start the fight and STILL not all of my attacks land for full and lots are STILL resisted. So go with fire or cold based attacks as a wiz.
