These were THE mobs to farm back in the day

Fine steel weapons and gem stones made their hill in Mountains of Rathe the place to go to make some quick cash back in the day. I'm sure they must have been superseded as the premier loot mobs by now, because nobody goes to the old world zones anymore. I'm able to get all the best camps and almost never see anyone in any content older than Crescent Reach, and only Crescent Reach because that's where the new players start when they leave tutorial now.

Blue Diamonds dropping on HG Hill
# Sep 11 2007 at 6:46 PM Rating: Decent
Not sure what mob(s) dropped this but was farming pp on HG hill and got 2 Blue Diamonds to drop. Did not see that in Bestiary under Known Loots but am positive it was from there. Let me know if had similar experience and what it dropped off of.

kk heres a tip on these guys..i farm them every now and then..i make about 8-12k a night..pretty good eh? heres my secret..first u need alot of these guys up at once..heres how u cna do it..on the hill where they chill at just kill basiliks / giant skeles / decaying skeles / beatles / orcs / cyclopses / and pretty much eveything on the hill BUT them..if u cna kill fast u shoul dhave about 11-14 of them up at once..NOW START KILLING!! take about 8 at a time..kill them all loot the weopons / lambent stones..weoponns sell for 5-7p from merchs.and lambent stones sell for 30-40p each..pretty much have to loot everything they dropped so u cna get to all the corpses for money...in order to get around the ammount of plat i got u need to have !PATEINCE! and lots of it..takes up to 5-6 hours for me..also depends on how much they drop..hell if they would drop 40p each a kill i would have 9-12k in 3 hours..but its random..so yea stick with my plan and it will get u rich =D
are they still in rathe???
# Jun 23 2006 at 12:04 AM Rating: Decent

At what level could a mage solo these at with decent but not twink gear?
belly cast nerf
# Apr 03 2006 at 2:00 AM Rating: Decent
the belly cast nerf seems to be gone on stromm, 43rd druid had no problem hitting at range with spells, and no problem with resists. platt drops seem better too, 22 and 17 on the last 2, safe hunting to u all
Nerfed?
# Feb 04 2006 at 3:27 AM Rating: Decent
Hiya peeps. i can confirm that the "Belly Caster" nerf has been removed on Test. Have not tried on other servers yet, perhaps one of you could update us to that fact.

Edit: just to clarify, there has been no change to their resists, merely the range at which spells would work. Hope this has been fixed on your servers too.

This nerf was ill concieved and unbalanced for wizards most of all...I Suspect it was a quick solution to Ninja Killers.

Resisting, Not Exactly

They're aren't exactly resisting, you just have to be in melee range to make something stick.
Resist ad infinitum
# Oct 21 2005 at 10:44 AM Rating: Default
Ok, I can appreciate making it a little more difficult to kill these guys, but to have all my dots and snares resisted is ridiculous. Come on SOE, how is an honest 67 Druid to make some quick cash solo now? I got about 1 of 5 roots to stick, nothing else. So much for kiting.
RE: Resist ad infinitum
# Mar 27 2006 at 12:33 PM Rating: Decent
There's nothing HONEST about a 67 druid farming low green mobs which other players probably would like to be hunting for xp.

That's what lazy cowards do, not honest players.

HONEST 67 druids will find something that gives them xp, or maybe even something that's a challenge.

Few things disgust me as much as how high level players so often prove "power corrupts", going into zones and hogging camps intended for lower-level players.

That's aside from how cowardly so many of them are...so often I'm trying to hunt reds or yellows with my 59 necro, only to find that I'm having to compete with a whole group of players who're red to me, but too lazy and cowardly to take on something that would actually be a challenge.

If you need lambent stones this is where to get them/Me being a 60 druid come here to wipe them because I have to.I need the stones for a tradeskill recipe.Maybe then Lambents shouldn't drop here.Money I can get elsewhere. But I need to kill the Giants so I may as well loot the plat too.
RE: Resist ad infinitum
# Aug 17 2006 at 10:30 AM Rating: Decent
Nothing wrong with hunting them if no one else is in zone, in fact ihave seen lower level Druids ask for help on the tainted and corrupted for their epics

Amen, Brother Kaz, say it again...Having been in RM a few times with mid-40's groups, just had to give up because of spawn-stealing, or Droodies roaming thru and picking off nameds in a given zone as we laboriously fight to the spawn point...
BUMMIN!!!!

Tried huntin here with my 43ranger in hopes of gettin some good plat the other day. They resisted all of my spells. Bummin!!! Oh well it was great while it lasted.
What up with Hill Giants
# Oct 17 2005 at 12:30 PM Rating: Decent
Has anyone been hunting these guys in Rathe since all the changes were made?? I need a Lambent Stone from them and I took my 68 Wizzard out and they were RESISTING all of my spells. Never had that happen before as I can usually kill them on one blow.

# Oct 19 2005 at 3:13 AM Rating: Decent
Went to Rathe last night for an epic piece that drops off Currupted HG.. same thing here Lady, resisted all my spells. I take that back.. I got one Root in after many tries.. Their resists must have been boosted a buttload.. Thanks SOE, you guys are great..
RE: What up with Hill Giants
# Oct 19 2005 at 5:06 AM Rating: Decent
I found out how it is. If the HG is in melee with you or your group, it's easy to land spells. Otherwise, it's hard as can be...
RE: What up with Hill Giants
# Feb 24 2006 at 4:20 PM Rating: Decent
I have to agree with you on this, the giants usally risist my spells so i have sent in pet first to tie it up wait a sec or two then i nuke it it works every time but i think it also has to do with your skills in the spells like evocation ect. i took down my first hill giant at level 25 solo. but it was real close and some do have a higher resistance then others, i noticed that the ones with spears and scimatars tend to resist more, first i thought it was thier level but now i feel that it is more related to thier gear that they have and the ones that do resist more i pull off about 25-40 platt off

I was first able to solo these guys with my lvl 40 ranger, by using spell/melee combo. It's been the best source of plat that i've found so far.
30 druid.
# Sep 20 2005 at 7:04 PM Rating: Decent
Level 30 Druid here, while getting lost from the Druid Circle in NK going to hunt Gnolls in Splitpaw, I came across one of these. I looked them up on Allakhazam to find they were 33-37.

I had KEI.

I rooted, stacked 3 dots, and nuked until root wore off. Then I took a couple hits before snaring, running, and rooting. Then I nuked it a bit and it died. 34 PP, hill giant toes. This was in Western Karana.

KEI has not been nerfed on the Mac servers. We're so lucky.
relocate in RM
# Aug 14 2005 at 12:10 PM Rating: Decent
The HG's in RM have been relocated. They used to be on a hill in the SW corner of the map. They have since been removed from there and replaced with frogloks. Their new location is in the NE of the map near the pally trainer and merchant. Incase you guys were freaking out, there you go. And yes, they're still dropping delicous amounts of plat...

=)

I find it sad to say that I am in RM again with my now 65 Druid farming HGs. I am getting many tells and /ooc's asking why I'm there and I have to say complain to SOE, they forced me here to farm the Lambent Stones (the price has shot up in the bazaar about 150 each on The Nameless). I find it embarassing to have 1-10 HG's rooted and rotting while the lower levels go wanting (I do kill the other mobs on the hill to keep the spawn rate up, although the lower levels don't), but hey, I gotta play the game too. One thing I do though, is not complain when they ks me (/smirk, like I couldn't stop them, one dot and all the energy they expend would be for naught).

I think the mobs dropping Lambent Stones should be expanded so the higher levels aren't in RM farming the HG's (even though I know they did before). Yes, I know they drop in other zones but they are so rare and unpredictable it's not worth going to them.

These guys are my favorite for farming pp Smiley: smile Yes, GE may have better plat dropping, but HG's are much easier to kill, just root, snare, and drop a few dots like Swarming Death/NWS clicky/or breath of Ro and they go down fast. A Druid or Necro at around lvl 30ish can solo these with minimal trouble, other classes i would say wait till probably around lvl 40, even then get a good DS and hp buff and any other buffs that you need for respective classes, etc, etc, etc. Anyways hope this helps[:tounge:]

# Apr 06 2005 at 2:15 AM Rating: Decent
Yes the drops seem to be lower of late, no matter, still a good return for time.

Provided tou stay out of other giants way, you can root, fear, nuke till root drops, let giant run away while you med, upon return, root, fear nuke. Other giants dont seem to join in the fun as long as you are not in their agro range. Works for my cleric, seen necros do this without problems (unless that attract an add)

So if your low on mana, and can fear a (hill and sand at least) giant, do so, and med til it comes back. If you dont mind losing a pet, send it after fleeing giant to beat it down, and hope it dosnt kill it. :)

They have resist but i have learned that they have between 1800-2900 hp as i watch how much my spell dose 500 damage or so is around 20-35 percent so you say 27 percent of there hp is 500 makeing close to 2000 on most but not all, btw i have not seen any sorupted hg in a long while and cant help but wonder where they went or do they have a different place holder.

Yes they have lowered the loot they drop. Grieg's end may be better financially but it is kinda tough for a group in thier 30's and early 40s to go into Grieg's.

I used to live in fear of these guys whenever I ventured into North Karana ... but today my 32 druid saw one that conned yellow, and decided to try and take it on. Fortunately she had been buffed with Divine Vigor and Blessing of Temperance, so was able to survive the few blows that the giant landed.

Anyway, the giant died from a repeated combination of Immolate and Stinging Swarm, with Combust thrown in. My druid actually went OOM and had to quick-med a few times while the Ensnared giant stomped toward her. In the end, the DOTs ran out shortly after the giant started to flee, requiring my druid to chase after it and melee the beastie to death!

Drop was 21pp, a Steel Torque, and Hill Giant Toes.
Necro kiting
# Oct 24 2004 at 2:16 PM Rating: Default
They can be soloed at level 30 for a necro. I did it at 28 by doing aggro kiting (where you take the aggro, "Darkness" the HG and let your pet beatdown on him) use all the DoT spells you got in your ******* and have a backup plan if anything gets out of hand. Youve also got to know exactly when your darkness spell is going to give out. Fear kiting also works well on these guys but with he risk of them running into another ginat makes it a little harder and more mana efficent than just standard kiting.
