Hill Giants and casters..bah!

Reading through the posts, I am filled with a sense of loathing and revulsion!

Cowardly casters, root is the first sign of a weak spine! Stand and fight, cast your spells, make a battle of it. These Giants are no match for a being with courage.

Why just yesterday I found one of these oaf's walking around NK as if he owned the place. A few younger adventurers were yelling for help, and Tribunal forgive me, I almost let the cowards die the death they so rightfully deserved.

But, this large criminal was in need of Tribunal justice, so weapons in hand, I took the battle to the beast. I laughed as the cowardly newbies ran home to their momma's.

The giant fought bravely, for a beast. But his fate was sealed when I set my eyes upon him.

The Tribunal had passed judgement and my Wurmslayer was covered in messy ichor.

So heed my words, cowardly casters. Keep your spells to strength your weak spines and leave the slaying to those born to it.

Personally i prefer my giants well done, i nuke one after another mana allowing of course.

As for a warrior soloing these unless you got a regen piece you might want to have book along while you wait for your hp to come back up. You guys got so many to start with it has to take awhile to heal up without a cleric or something.

Nothing wrong with a little role playing though :)

yeah its crazy how your 37 level character has a wurmslayer ....twink...up the *** prolly with ac to boot ....yeah your warrior should be able to wipe his hind end with the giant ....btw my caster is trained in 1 hb and it has saved my **** from time to time ....but it dont mean i have the ability to hand to hand a hg ....hence the pet and spells ...to me it sounds like someone needs to go find himself some monsters more suited for his twinked out warrior ....a get a reminding of what a real battle is ....wheres the fun in being twinked out anyways half the fun of playing ti getting the stuff and growing as a character ...anyways ive said my piece no hard feeling ....lol.

My friend, a 35 Druid, is able to solo the weaker ones. So, you and your Druid friend should be able to tackle them.

Hey everybody, Zomor 51 paladin reporting in here now. Just finished my 3 hour long time of killing HGs today in rathe, got over 1k IN 3 HOURS. Wanna know how?

First what you do is make sure you are levels 45-60 of course, buy 10 shot SoW potions so you can escape easily. SoW yourself, keep all of your own buffs on, including symbol. Then what you do is pull with either stun or Flame of Light whichever you have. Then commence the beatdown. Keep fighting till you get down to half health then root his butt and heal with your DW Helm-manafree healing. When you get back to full if you do before root breaks, just pepper him with arrows/nuke him with Flame of Light till root breaks. The start fighting, rinse then repeat till he starts running, now what you should do is NOT root, just keep beating his butt since its hard to miss from the backside anyways and you got yourself one dead HG. Easy startegy with almost no downtime.

PS-takes me 1 minute 30 seconds to kill one at 51 and i only lose 1/2 of my health. Very Efficient.

HG and Griffons appearing in EC are just some kind of sick joke the 989 Studios developeres played on the unsuspecting EQ community. Lvl 35+ MOBs in the newbie killing zones is just cruel

Casters shouldn't have much problem taking these guys out 40+. Partied up with a druid and soon to party up with a paladin. When partied up with a druid, make sure that you all have SoW (duh), bind yourself close by and in a safe spot. Then the druid pulls (track + snare + sow = beware HGs). Then I throw a few nukes, out agro the druid, we root it with the lowest level root, since its going to break with DDs anyway. Then proceed to nuke it to death. Root when needed.

With a level 35 wiz, 37 druid and myself (40 wiz), we took out HGs with 60 - 70m remaining on all of us. Granted, I was doing practically 400 dmg per nuke (384 I think) and totalling around 1200 - 1600+ dmg per encounter.

Great loot! A few pointers.

1. Destroy all silver and copper. This will just weigh you down. If its going really good, then destroy all gold too.

2. If you are a wizard, then bind yourself nearby. Loot until encumbered, gate to Gfay (if you are a good race), unload in kelethin/felwithe. Gate back.

3. Watch out for trains and kiters. Make sure you have your volume up and keep your eyes open! You will often see druids (and sometimes wizzies) kiting one or more throughout the area. They like to root the HGs and this can provide to be quite painful, if it's parked ontop of your group.

4. Rogues often pick pocket here. Make sure you have see invis on and keep track of those bastidges.

No a lvl 35 druid is plenty high to take them no problem. I'm a 35 Enchanter and I've been killing them since 34 and Enchanters are not know to be soloers at lvls higher then 20s. All druids gotta do is keep them snared and dotted. I bet if they have clarity they could do two at a time by lvl 35 or so. They are quite easy with a 35 chanter and it's funny how many people that amazes, prolly cause they have like 2200 hps or so.

Really I would say (NO)...

You'd get the resist - then (unless your wisdom is 200 {and you had some +mana items} you'd run out of mana Before the beast is died, leaving you at the mercy of this hard hitting brute..

39 would be a decent level to solo, but use the Root/dot/med method.. Your dots will do far more damage than your nukes.. Root the beast, Drones plus Immolate (3 times) you have 1 dead Beast...

I think so, you might try reverse kiting, have the giant chase the druid around while snared and have the warrior beat on it but not taunt.

I'm about to turn lvl 40 and thinking of going to Rathe for HG's. Since they are so solo-able by casting pc's, what are the odds that I'll be able to find a partner or group at lvl 40?

That depends on your class - but a lvl40 of just about any class should be able to group up in Rathe, in my experience.

These guys gave me 3 blue bubbles last night at level 49, I am a shaman.Easy way to solo these as a shaman is pull with Togors, Have pet buffed with Alacrity,Str,Tuna buff, and Chloroplast.
As it comes in, use ENSTILL, 10x better then root, it holds longer, try it. Send in yer pet, let him hit it till hes at about 65% and cast an Ebolt, Enstill will most likely hold till its dead and if not the pet will keep aggro. Dont worry about healing your pet, it will regen faster then your mana.
80% of the HGs con blue still and you can take down about 5 before you have to med, I reccomend this for the level 49 Shaman till 50 then go hit up Burning Woods or the Ive Giants in Everfrost(if you can get a camp =) )
Just my thoughts on this trying to be helpful, and a couple of posts up I saw a guy whining about lvl 52s killing HGs... well bud, you sit and shout for a group where the good stuff drops for an hour and then do the math,,,, lets see, an hour at the HGs will weild about 150pp give or take a few, or I can sit here and yell for a group for 2 hours... hmmm. Just let it be bro its a game =)

Waxed my first one last nite. Guess that kiting thing takes practice. It got me down to two bubbles of health, but never any farther. Oh and total downtime? uh none. heh heh. Took me a bout 10 minutes to kill. Sucker dropped about 90 gold, some toes, and a lambent stone. And one half a blue xp. I want more!

If your newbie *** ever gets to level 52, you'd realize that you cant just get into any groups you want. most of the "good loot" camps are just that, camped. HG's are fast spawn, and drop good loot. so eat it.

I am a 40 SK with decent gear and my weapon is 30 dam and 40 delay and I can not solo these guys I try fear and they resist it 65% of the time same with engulfing darkness. but many people say that they soloed these guys as a 33to40level SK is this true or are they BSing me? if not please give some hints.
RE: help
# Sep 26 2001 at 10:45 AM Rating: Decent
No, they are not BSing you. As a 38th necro I rarely get resisted for Dooming Darkness or Invoke Fear (maybe 1 in 8 casts). It's possible that Engulfing Darkness is being treated as the earlier level necro spell. Possibly something similar is going on with Fear.
RE: help
# Sep 19 2001 at 10:46 AM Rating: Decent
I think they are BS'ing you, I'm a 43 SK and STILL can't solo these things. They resist Fear quite often. My gear isn't that great but, I'm using a Wurmslayer 25dmg 40delay 1hs..which means I can bash ,I also use a pet and I get him down to about 15-20% health before I have to Feign.
I heard SK's can solo HG's and SG's but not safely until 49 when we get our new spells.

I hunted with them for 2 hours before they had to go. I made 225 plat in 2 hours!! These things drop between 36-48 plat each time. In a full group with split on the money just rolls in. Not to mention got half a yellow bubble in 30. Woot!!!!!!

As a 46 mage i find it quite easy to solo most of these guys with minimal down time. I pull with a low end spell like shock of blades lvl 24 I believe. Then bring to the fire pet and since i have probably been hit they are fast since ya have to turn arround even with Jboots ya still get WACKED quite often so pet is on auto attack he will get the giant off almost as soon as he gets there pets attack at this lvl draws the aggro of the giant and i just start casting renew elements sitting between castings till giant is half way down then one cast of shock of swords and poof he is running the good thing is that you get some medding time during the fight so less downtime takes me about 1 to 2 bubs of mana even if i stand the whole fightfire pets fire shield helps lots hitting in the upper 30's to 40 or so for each timer he is hit is nice addition

I think at L30 you'd have an incredibly hard time of it. At L35 I solo'd a black conning hill giant. It hurt.
The giant had enough HP's that the L34 darkness spell ran it's full course twice, before he dropped. (And they run REALLY fast, when darkness breaks.)
Also, since you won't have instill fear yet, if you're fear kiting he's gonna shake off your fear real fast.
I have been told to wait until about L44 for soloing these guys. I'd be inclined to say if you get to L34 for the new dark and fear spells and partner with a melee class to help mince the giant, you should be ok.

I'm a 40 shaman and I think I just about have soloing HG's down to a science. First, make sure you have the 39 lvl pet spell and summon that little bad boy. Put quickness, chloroplast and SoW on you and your dog. Tell it to guard a spot near the zone and leave it there. Forget about your dog for now. Find a HG and pull it with malisement, but don't go near your dog. Run like the wind and when you get far enough away, cast Root (not Enstill) on the HG and pray to god it sticks. If so, cool..back up a ways and proceed to putting Torgors, Venom of the snake, scourge and affliction on it. If you get Torgors to stick, its all downhill from there :) Just continue putting all your dots on him and rerooting if it breaks. Once they're on, go heal yourself if necessary and sit by your dog. Then when he crashes your party, just beat him to death. He attacks so slow (with Torgors on) you can usually cast a Shock of the Tainted in between his attacks.

It wouldn't hurt to have Spirit of Cheetah memmed :) There are always times when you either fizzle a hundred times or the HG resists everything and its time to run for the zone.
Dropped these fools
