I would guess around 30, if there are at least 3 of you. Maybe 28 or 29 with a full group. These suckers range from 33 to 37, being the smallest and most common of the giants. In any case, be very careful, and use an intelligent strategy, because even with a lot of you, the chances that one of you will die are pretty high. At least these guys aren't casters...
sorry about that last message i axidently pressed enter. so what level can a barbarian warior with chitan shell armor and ring male with a cristolised 2handed sword and a cleric wiht leather armor and cloth armor with a 2 handed hammer take one of these?
sorry bout that sliped to enter. so what level can a barbarian warrior with ringmale armor and a cleric with not so good armor like leather and and cloth take one of these?oh yha both of our weapons do mid 20s
Alright my Question is What Level would Druids Just Be good enough To Start soloing These Guys And what Level would Druids Need to be for these guys to start Being Realy Ez,
Also, How much PP these guys Drop? i hear anywhere up to 40-45pp is this correct? or higher/lower? Anyhow i thank anyone who awnsers my Question
Bye-Bye For now Bunch of n00bie chars you dont care about Prexus Server
I'm level 39, and have been hunting them since level 34 or 35.. They're all dk blue to me now, and occasionally they'll still resist spells, but are fairly easy to kill. Clarity will help out for the 1st couple of levels, i've taken out a few blacks without clarity (it was tough) and 1 yellow with clarity. They'll drop anything from 5 plat up to 50 plat.. Just make sure they're always snared otherwise you'll pobably be running from them so you can cast snare, they can be quite fast when they're mad.
I am a 47 Pally with pretty good gear (Arbitor's Combine Greatsword, about 900AC, about 2100 Hit points). When I solo these they usually take me down to about 2 red bubbles of health left and about 50% mana. At 39 your root may be resisted fairly often which might make it difficult to back out of the fight to heal (which you will need to do).
My guess is that at 39 you will need a partner. Of course you could always try one and use the "Flash of Light then run" technique if things don't go well for you. Make sure you have a Lay Hands to burn!

Posted:Dec 30 2001 at 9:24 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Now, i have no problem with farming. It's a privilage that comes with lvling high enough. But what i do have a problem with is druids taking 2 at a time when there is a grp of cleric/tank/tank/shammy just 50 feet down the valley. Now, i have nothing but respect for druids, as secondary healers, buffers, and sowers, and wannabe melee's (seems they're pretty second rate in a grp), but when u can track whatever u want, sow whenever u want, and dot the beast to death, why not let the other grps have a crack at em when they have to run they're ***** off to find them.
Want to know the (perhaps) funniest solution? Play a rogue, and get a couple SoW potions. Then, whenever you see those poor hill giants being kited by the gredy druid/wizard/group, help out the giant by lessening it's cash encumberance, allowing it to run faster and catch up with the evil greedy aforementioned whatever. admittedly, this will not make you very POPULAR, but it can make you quite a bit of cash. Anyone reading this, to counter all you have to do is have the monk run it around a bit, and when the dashing rogue tries to steal, feign death ;) Delios Shadowsoul Rogue of the 51st season, drinal server Officer of Mistaken Identity
P.S. i prefer to hunt here in a group, amazing how effective against KSing a rogue can be :D
So basically what your saying is that a druid is a very efficient soloer, so good in fact that they should be chastised for doing so. As I druid I have had many a group kill steal my kites and when I am soloing one kite does matter. I do apologize for those of us who have accidentally attacked the prey of a fear-kiter, whenever I do this I root it and let the fear-kiter take back their kill. I am flattered, however that the druid gets a bad reputation because they are fast killing and all around highly-skilled class.
Druids are shunned and frowned upon until someone needs a sow from you the same way that spoiled little brother gets picked on til someone wants to play with his toys. Plain and simple druid is spoiled and and easy class to play. They get all the best spells and overall variety as to make most of their battles ez to the point of being trivial... I enjoyed my druid up to around 30 and quite frankly got sick of him too ez with little fear factor of death most everydeath coming from too tired moves like wolf form in wrong place or mistargeting rarely ever in a battle you initiate, so if you are new to the game this is a good class to use once you get to be more familiar with the eq enging and gameplay you will most definatly want to move on to a more challenging class.. Shadlok Terris-thule
I think the statement should be qualified: some druids definitely can ruin a camp for others while most in my exp do not.
Frankly its just a matter of how one plays and like anything else you have some morons who do get greedy (not just druids either). Druids seem to be more numberous than say wizards so statistically they are more likely to have people giving the class a bad name just cuz there's more of them. Wizards have been accused of the same thing before im sure though.
A case in point a druid pulled mob i was camping without checking camps and despite me sitting right there. I figure ok whatever and sent him a tell i had that one camped. He rooted and then split so i got the mob back. All it takes is one guy not following conventions to make someone resent druids, but they aren't all like that. His bad for not checking camps but he did give it back which is the right thing to do in my opinion. Mistakes happen.
I've also had mele type pullers try to take my mobs after ive snared and nuked em a couple times then get mad when they dont get any exp. Hello! the critter is damaged and moving extremely slow chasing the wizard whatever could be going on? Ok fine if they are dumb enough at the level it takes to pull giants etc to do this I let the giant pound him while i nuke it a couple times and get aggro back, saves me having to kite quite so far. I hate KS'ing more than mob hogging personally.
As someone who can Quad (Wizard) I have run into situations where a druid or two moved into an area where i was pulling but hey it's a big game there's other spots. At least some have the decency to ask, some don't. The ones that move in and deliberately pull everything in an attempt to drive others out give the rest a bad name they don't deserve. I've heard the bad ones called rat dogs cuz they are always in wolf form and show no respect for others in a pull area.
I don't know how druids quad exactly but if they work with aoe as i do it's definitely more mana efficient to do more than one at a time and from that angle i wouldn't blame em at all for multi pulls.
My 2cp don't paint the whole class with the same brush most druids are decent folks just like the other classes.
Well, I guess us "second rate in a group" types have to get by somehow. Let me tell you, when I'm in a zone trying to quad kite all the mobs that drop anything worth while, nothing steams me more than some "grp of cleric/tank/tank/shammy just 50 feet down the valley" hogging all the spawns.
I am a druid of the 54th port and when I get low on cash and find something new I want or something for a twink I have created I head straight to good old Rathe. I will be the first to admit that since I have track finding the HG's are easier, however I have just as much of a right to be there as anyone else. I'm not going to KS or anything but if I find a HG that nobody else is on it's mine. What bugs me most is when I have something snared root and both dots going (winged death and elder spritist vambrace dot) I'm sitting there watching it die and medding up for the next encounter and someone without track comes and busts my HG around sees me there and runs off leaving me to my HG. This wouldnt bother me normally but it seems when they smack him around he breaks root and comes back on me and I need to reroot. well that my 2pp sorry for such a long post
I agree with you 100%: I have a Druid who LOVES to kite, but hates it when some dumb-bell runs up and engages my snared, stack-dotted, and rooted mob (and THEN has the stones to cry "KSer!" after the mob keels over). This has happened to me so many times it's pathetic.
However, I also have a level 41 warrior who enjoys tanking HG's in RM - the darnedest thing happens: I see the giant standing there and then run up to it to aggro it, and its HP bar IS always at 100% (I usually can't see the the Druid who's kiting it from any real distance, either). AFTER I get whacked for 50-150 points damage by a rooted HG (and wind up looking like a dolt to the Druid who's killing it), is when the thing's HP bar zips down to about 25% - in about 2 seconds. Occasionally I see spell effects (on my approach) and veer off at the last second, but not often. <sigh>
i was wonderin how high a monk would have to be to solo one of the mofos, i saw a 36 monk take out a griffon by himself, but HG's are much higher. he told me might be able to take one, is he correct?
i am a monk and i was able to solo one of these at lvl 35...However, for some reason he only had 3/4's of his health left. I had to use mend and once he was dead i had about 2 bubbles of health left. My weapon, which is an adamantite bo stick, proc'ed twice against him which caused around 400dmg. I think i got pretty lucky against him and i never fight HG's now unless i am grouped.
first time i ever soloed a giant i was lvl 33, it was a sand giant, im a druid, had to med a lot while killing it though, i believe it was yellow or maybe even low red
Basic rule of soloing something this nasty with a chanter - don't mess with the reds or yellows and don't mess much with the blacks unless you're near the zone line.
Charm one then /pet attack him against another one - hit the one he's attacking with some debuffs and for the love of god don't buff your pet. Keep target giant rooted.
By the time your pet has killed him the charm is ready to break - keep as far as possible so you can get the root off in time then either nuke/dot him or conjure a normal pet or charm another giant to finish him.
Rinse and repeat and keep your mana as high as possible - stuff happens alot more when you start messing with charm and you want to have every edge you can to get out when things hit the fan (not if, when).
iam sk-de lvl38 and have no problems with it. use a strong 2sh and ur spells, like engulfing darkness and fear and take up a pet with no taunt and u will not loose more then 1 red if u know how to solo. at this time i have to say that iam using a Arbitors C. Sword and make hit arround 110. 2 times i try falling death just for fun and it works but dont forget to auto-attack of. hehe
I took these down in the mountains with a lvl 27 War and a lvl 30 Nec when I was a lvl 25 Shammy. Its was at times difficult, but it could be done. Guess they are not as tuff as u all think :-D
Fear kiting these at 49 is easy cake. Make a rather large chunk of cash in a few hours. Just watch out for the trackers though, they tend to take every single one in sight (And those that ya cant see)
at lv49? once you hit 44 you can fear kite these things with ease, btw does anyone know when they're gonna fix the bug for the lv44 necro's lifetap working?

Posted:Nov 10 2001 at 6:13 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Ok, here it is. How the hell can anyone complain about anyone else farming or camping these guys too long?..I'm a lvl 53 druid and I STILL camp these guys for the money they give because i can drop one and stil have plenty mana left over. I'm rediculous to think that these guys shouldnt be camped unless inside a "certain lvl" requirement ********* Yeah, i get a lotta **** from all the *** newbies tryin to get a group in, then they KS and I PK if I can (Rallos Zek anyone?), and if i cant, they're usually to low to KS anyway. I'm getting major $$$ off these big dumb idiots, just got 2k yesterday alone in Rathe Mtn. from farming them. took me about all day, but it was worth it for my alts. ill probably continue to do this until my guild decides to get off their lazy asses and raid something!!
ok,im a pretty low lvl necro,(15)and was thinking about what a friend told me...'necros can make lots of money killing these with pet'..and was thinking ill do that some day so,my quistion is,when im lvl 30,do you think me and my pet could take these?oh,and i got REALLY twinked by my friend, hehe.thanks!
Hi, I have been soloing these since lvl 34. I would not try at 30. The secret is fear and sow.. either buy some potions or work out a deal with a druid in the zone.. They resist darkness a bit and hit very hard so run if your pet is dead and darkness did not stick.. don't forget to use your mana spell non stop.. i have been oom many times with an hg standing there just waiting to die..
Level 30 solo? Not a snowball's chance in hell. Level 34? You might be able to kill a level 33 or 34 HG, but everything will have to go perfectly (no resists, no adds, invoke fear lasts the duration, etc.). You really won't be able to take them consistently until level 39, and they'll still be very tough fights.
As a 30 Enchanter here, I can confirm that dropping these with a druid partner is a piece of cake. Druid responsibilities are sow on everyone (including enchanter pet), snare, and dot. Enchanter responsibilites include tashan, pet, and fear (chase the moon). Druid leads with snare, enchanter draws aggro by casting tashan. Enchanter takes one for the team to get pet on giant then fears. Druid dots and you both sit and med.
To speed up the process the enchanter can nuke a couple of times, but esentially just keep the fear and dot going and the giant will drop with no problems.
I would like to know the place where these big guys spawn the most? Maybe the don't spawn faster in different places? well I would like all of your opinions on the subject so post! I also saw a post on a druid and a enchanter kiting them, and I was also wondering what lvl you guys would reccomend that I join a group or have a partner for these big brutes?
There's no one place that they spawn the most in my experiance, although there are a lot in Rathe Mountains. At 30, you can join a group and hunt them. Me, a 35 enchanter, and a 31 ranger were easily taking them down. Oh, I should mention I'm a 30 druid.
All over here people have talked about talking these at 35+ What about 30 or even 29. Trust me it is very doable. Provided you know and work very well your partner, these big guys will do nothing but fall very hard.
A friend of mine 30 Enchanter and myself 30-29 Druid (30-29 will be explained) were able to take one of these behemoths down in East Karana. We buffed each other with everything we could. He brought up a pet. Then I hunted a pet Griffawn. Once I had my tipple hitting claw machine, we went after the Hill Giant. Almost imidieatly my pet decided this was a bad idea and wanted to punish me. I was several levels higher then the Griff so most of the time he was just whiffing. However his disobedience and complete disorganization on the pat of my friend I was pummeled quite hard into the ground. Once I came back I had lost a level (29 now) and made my way to back to EK from Firona Ve (succor:east) got up my sow, snare 2 dot?s and Combust. I joined in again. My partner was simply kiting the Giant all over the zone keeping aggro so his pet could beat it down while waiting for me. He performed a fly by Clarity so I could med a little mana back, then I was finally able to Snare the big brute. Which made things much easer.
We learned eventually that His DOT?s were almost useless However mine were working great. His DD?s were always hitting for max while I was never hitting for more than 2 digits. So I dotted while he nuked and his pet was nipping at its heals (or maby it was dead by this point, I?m not sure). Eventually the beast fell. All that was left behind were his frankly ugly toes and 28+pp
Granted he was probably lower level than most (he did con red at 30) It was still a high point For us. The experience we learned from it convinced us that if we knew better what we were doing. Hunting down and exterminating these massive mutants would be a relatively easy task. Especially when one considers the wealth to be had.
mmm? Destroy all copper and silver....and even gold, and just save the plat? WHY! i'm a lvl 40 shammy and have hunted in Rathe since about lvl 32 the money and i mean ALL the money is hard earnt so keep it.) Here's how....So you're really heavy with small change, during downtime you pop to the Merchant at Lake zone selling Jewels, if your a non-caster get a char buff from a shammy in group (or send a tell for one) you buy rose quartz from the merch at about 1pp each, have your inventory window open and calculate roughly how many you need to buy to get rid of your loose change( copper,silver....gold) then sell them straight back to him....you may loose maybe 7% but the buying price converts to plat, so it's like an ATM service.....think about it MAKE MONEY.) hope the info helps those who need help!!!!.)
Would it be possible for a 35 Ranger to solo or get a group in Rathe Mtns hunting these? I've spent my entire EQ existence not having any money (never had over 200pp at any once), and I get tired of walking through EC-Bay and watching some newb drop 17K on a single item. Plus, I'm trying to do my Ivy Etched quests at the moment, and each piece requires at least 1 gem that costs 100pp or more...
Jo'Brill Solwynd 35th Cycle Halfelven Ranger of Tunare Master Fletcher of 166 Arrows <Revered Souls> Morell-Thule Server "I fletch; therefore, I'm broke."
no a 35 ranger cant solo these... a 40 ranger has problems tanking up to them... personally on my 31 warrior i would have a better chance(twinked)and still wouldnt win... tho i was in a group here at either 27 or 28 and grouped with a 40 ranger (he took a beating)and just today a 35 cleric and myself got an ice giant (38-42) to about half health before i took off for the zone to perma... you could most definatley get a group and around 45 youll be able to solo them maybe earlier maybe 40 ranger i was with was usin wrong tactics (but they hit hard upwards of 96 I.G.'s hit for about 116)also if you try soloing if you get an add and try to fight youre toast... friends 54 pali has trouble warding off 2 without loh 3 is a definite problem... well there ya go (soling not quite a good idea)
I've been soloing these with my Ranger since 32 in North and East Karana. All you need is a good bow (I use the trueshot), snare, and 500 arrows. It's more difficulty to use this technique in Rathe Mountains because you're likely to pick up adds during the lengthy process of bow kiting. Be sure to have a fresh SoW on, plenty of mana, and resnare before snare breaks. Use flame lick right after snare, and when it wears off you'll know it's time to resnare again. Around 37 you can start effectively mixing a little DoT and melee into the process, which cuts down the time it takes. There are faster ways to gain experience and money though, it's really only worth it for the challenge and to be able to say you did it. =)
