Ok, I had begun to believe the Young Kodiak Femurs required for a DE warrior quest were mythical when one dropped today, after killing easily 30 of these bears. The quest requires 4!?!? :P But yes, they do drop...
I was wandering about with my lvl 11 wizzy one time and thought well it might drop a HQ pelt so I may as well try. Well long story short I killed it and got a thick grizzly bear skin. Whats it for? Any help would be appreciated.
I was told by one of my Quest NPC's to get Young Kodiak Femurs from the young kodiaks in Nek Forest. I need four of them to make a shield. I haven't seen a ONE of them drop. Has anyone seen them drop??
While tough for lower level PC's once you can kill em try this for fun! If you are a smaller stature PC (like my Wood Elf) once they are on their last legs and running from you walk behind and you can walk right into them. Keep attacking and every time you hit you'll see their little mouth bellowing Mwaaaaaw - from the inside out. Totally cool abd great revenge for the times they either killed me or interfered with a near kill (such as the dervishes)
they pass by the derv camp A LOT, so be prepared these pudsy wannbes to cane you while your also fighting off a load of dervs-someone shoudl always keep an eye out for the teddies while you are derv camping.
guys, you are getting all mixed up with KODIAKS. young kodiaks contantly con blue to my lvl 13 guy-normal kodiaks con yellow or red to the same guy. thats the thing you have to watch out for- they look the same, but be sure to only attack the young ones (or the bigs one, if you are high lvl)
These things are easy for my lvl 12 necromancer. Just got my pet out, cast engulfing darkness and heat blood and had them down before they knew what hit em. Hehe. Wusses:)
Not a tough critter once you hit the upper newbie ranges. They do hit kind of hard though for the lower guys. The pelts again are nice as they are used in tailoring.
I have killed scores of these things and have not once got the claws. Must just be luck of the draw. Are we talking the same claws that some characters use as weapons?
I was hunting in Misty Thicket for the rare drop of Giant Wasp wings. I was Lvl 17 and getting exp even they were non-aggro and con grn to me. I DINGED to Lvl 18 and alas no more exp.
Once I saw a druid cast the tame animal on a kodiak that was next to another one and then sent the pet to go attack a red con. The other kodiak helped and he got a full bubble of exp because both kodiaks were down to 1/2 of a bubble.
YKs used to easily slain me when i was a young, lvl 3-7 necromancer. When i hit the magical lvl 10 though, these thing become rather easy. Your pet will do most of the job while you can easily DoT and help melee. They don;t give much of a Exp though, so hunt them when you want a nice payback. :)
Unrest is a dungeon and as such gives an exp bonus. It's also really easy to die there. For a non-twinked, pre-teen noob these bears are great exp and close to home.
They hit hard but have low hitpoints like most bears. If you can group with even just one other person around 7 9, you'll do okay, though expect to need to bandage or get healed. Good experience though.
I must be seeing things but i was fighting Dervs in WC and a YK passed me wile i was killing a derv and he attacked the derv, i guess they also help you, im a lvl 14 druid...
I've read that Alliance will keep these creatures off your back for lvl 8+ enchanters, just need to safely cast it on one every 15 minutes or so. Supposedly works with Cats in the Karanas as well.
