These big guys are great! im a Lv.23 necro and I can solo the red ones no problem. Do they spawn anywhere other then around the lake though? Seems like theres only ever 3 or so of them around at a time.
Yes I must admit im a VERY twinked druid.... Im only lvl 22 and I can kite 2-3 of these things around..... I have 216 wis.... So im sure even untwinked you could easily root and dot one of these guys to death.....
What i do notice is that they break root Very easily... So just snare and dot and run them around for a while.....
One small point to clear any possible misunderstandings due to the above post. DoTs no longer do full damage when the mob is chasing the person who cast it. The DoT will do 2/3 of the total possible damage, not full damage, so that 200+ damage dot, Creeping Crud now does around 160 damage for 100 mana, over the span of a minute.
There are 2 main ways a druid can solo, under level 34. The first is the root-rot method, where essentially, Root, Snare, DoT, refresh spells as needed. The second is nuke-kiting, where you Snare, and Nuke till dead. Although our nukes are nowhere near as mana efficient as our dots, you may find that you spend more mana using the root-rot method than nuke-kiting, in some situations, due to having to refresh root so often.
I go out to Rathe Mnts. every once in a while to fight Giant Skeletons. As a cleric of the 28th season, they mostly con blue to me and I can kill them fairly easily. I never have trouble finding them near the Lake Rathe zone. I use my sence the dead spell and it always puts a giant skeleton on my target. Then I go find him and cast fear on him. I nuke him with my dismiss undead spell a few times and that's pretty much it. Good for clerics to solo with.
I just killed one of these on my second attempt. Im a 26th rung Monk, have Wu's and 698 HPs. This thing hit me (AGI 136) with three blows of 52, 52 and 32, before i could even swing. The first attempt had me FD at 16 HPs left...
I healed and found it again, completely healed up as well...got hit in the 40s and 50s...had 2 bubs left and mended back to 3 bubs...when we got done, I ad about 100 HPs left....got 5 silver and change for loot and not so great xps...fwiw..
Ok, I am a lvl 29 warrior Barbarian and have kick asz gear but not twinked. I use a fine sheer blade thingy in secondary and a BALS in primary with 140 lvl duel weild. I have 958hp. Could I drop these suckers in no time? and get xp still? I could ge 30 from them and then get in a HG group and knock'em around a bit )
If you brought plenty of money for bandages, you may just be able to solo them, but you'd be spending an awful lot of money on bandaids. My suggestion would be to find a healer partner to accompany you and kill them together. That way, you both get decent exp, and are relatively safe.
would it be possible for a lvl 21 druid twinked with like 160 wis be able to kite one of these skeles who just got done kiting aviak guards then on to aviak rooks would it be possible for me to kite one i am a very good kiter
Could a lvl 20 necro posibly solo these? At 20 i have dismiss undead and spook the dead. Plus all thos eDOTs and my pet. Or should i wait ill lvl 22? What do yall think?
I came to Rathe Mountains after I received my level 22 spells. (I consider these spells vital for any SK who wishes to follow my path.)
Resists seemed to be fairly rare. I began each fight by casting Grim Aura and Vampiric Embrace on myself. (For those who do not know, Grim Aura can be picked up in any Necromancer guild. DO take the time to get it as it will make a difference in max damage.
Start each fight with Engulfing Darkness, Siphon Strength, and Disease Cloud. As the Skellie draws closer, cast Spook the Dead. As the skellie runs from life, ha ha, you can nail him for maximum damage. When Spook the Dead wears off, do NOT hesitate to cast it again. Using this method, you shouldn't get into too much trouble.
A couple of points:
- Lizardmen are the PH, place holders, for the Giant Skellies. If you kill enough of them, they will spawn Giant skellies. - Do NOT kill bears of ANY kind. They are the place holders for cyclops'. They will make hunting for Skellies more troublesome and time consuming. - I slayed the skellies near Lake Rathe. While this does provide for an easy get away incase you need to flee, you WILL get trained by someone trying to pull too many cyclops' or Hill Giants. - Being undead, they do NOT run away from you when they get low on health. Something to remember incase you're in a close fight. - At level 22, even cons gave me 1 blue bar, yellow 1.1 blue bars, and reds 1.5. (Yes, you can take reds, but be careful for resists!) As I level up, the XP was STILL impressive. - There is a rare Lizardman spawn names Mortificator Syythrak. AVOID HIM. He is a level 40 Shaman who has some nasty spells. (You'll know him when you see him running around with a SOW on him. ) - I typically loot 2-3pp from them. Each level I was able to make around 35-50pp per level. - They drop bone chips almost all of the time. A nice little bonus on top of the loot & xp. - You MAY want to pratice your first Evocation spell,Ward Undead. It is an undead only 40 point dd spell. I have used it to kite these around with Engulfing Darkness when I was low on HP.
I am currently level 27, and see no reason for leaving this zone right now. The down time has gotten shorter as I leveled up, while the XP has remained strong. Not to mention that I conned my first yellow clops' when I hit 26, so I think I'll be dropping them sometime soon. I hope this information helps.
My 22 sk took out a black one, without too much trouble, was on half health after. As I finished resting I got a lot of buffs from a passing druid (including +460hp :) ) so made a pet and took on a yellow one. Killed him too but was quite a nasty fight, was hurting a lot more than I thought it would, hit me for 50 a couple times. My pet survived somehow, heh. loot was 1 plat 7 gold +change from first 2 plat ? gold +change, one bone chips, skeletal toe and bloodback wand from the second one. Oh and these weren't at the ruins, they were wandering around so no friends to worry about.
Would it be possible for a 27 Paladin with decent equipment (Ghoulbane, lots of AC and HP too,) to solo these..? I could own most undead in Kunark that conned blue even before I got the GB so I'm wondering if anyone knows how I would do.

Im a 24 pally and just made my way to Rathe. I have NO ghoulbane and pretty lame equip but I had an easy time Soloing whites and had to use LOH on a yellow once. Just nail em till they are under 40%, then spook and spank em from behind. You shouldnt have much problem :) --- Xehn Roughbeard Druzzil Ro
Agreed - I'm a lvl 24 Pal and new to Rathe Mtns and I'm soloing the blues without much trouble. I melee all the way with a few Ward Undeads in the mix. They wear me down to less than 40% HP, but they are dropping more than 1pp in loot - so, the downtime to recover is worth it - not to mention the great exp! )
Bordaar Orcfict 24th Season Paladin Ariadnes Clew Terris-Thule
Assuming not too many skele friends nearby (ice and char bones will jump in and help him unless your mid twenties at least) you can take him at 21-22 asusming you hit perfectly with your anti undead line of spells...
Best bet is to wait for 24. their is a certain spell in that set we all know and love at that level that makes clerics taking him REAL easy.
Plus you feel AWESOME cause he's the first real giant creature you can solo and you feel like david salying goliath
I have been soloing these skellies at lvl 21 with my enchanter. Preatty easy too kill without even using my pet. I just entraill, tashani, root, than cast away at it untill it dies. They are all red to me. Increddible exp.
Went to ruins to try to get Ingot for my alt Cleric, I'm a 38 druid. KIlled everything there several times over. Eventually a barbed bone skellie spawned in the very middle of the stones, he started kicking the crap out of all the other undead at the ruins, was pretty amazing, never seen that happen. He eventually stopped because he had to chase one of the ice bones a little ways out of the circle, at which point he just stopped and stood there. I proceeded to kill him, and the next spawn that happened where he had spawned was the dark colored giant skellie.
Same...that Barbed bone that attacks the other skeletons seem to be the spawn right before you will get the Gaint skeletons(that is dark colored). Was alittle werided out when the barbed bone starting attacking the other skeletson)
Erm, don't know if the above was a druid bashing, but my druid was effectively soloing Giant Skels at 24 all the way up til they got green. I admit, some druids aren't great at kiting and can ruin anyone's soloing session, as I have now seen while playing with my mage. I solo skels with my mage now at lvl 25 with the new dual wielding pets and new nukes, its fairly easy. Make sure you use Air for the stun effect or Earth for root just incase the skel decides to aggro on you for using big nukes.
These guys have some petty good loot, last night I was getting 2pp and change in a row :) Just some warnings and hints: These guys hit up to 56 and fast, so keep them on your pet or spooked with spells. Watching out for kiting druids trying to kill things they CANNOT KILL! I have died twice to this and it's rather annoying. Stay away from Lake rath zone, it's a constant train and almost all of them are never shouted. If there is a slow spell, go out and kill some lizzy men and bears, they are PH for cycs and giant skels. Not much mana is needed, all you need to do is darkness, spook the dead, and hungry earth. All while your pet is buffed of course :) Hope this helps, happy hunting necros!
*******************Solo******************* Hello. I am a level 30 paladin and these are fairly easy to solo. they don't have much hp so you can usually root and ward/expulse/whateveryouhave. ********************Meelee************* They don't connect often (with 530 ac) when they do attack, (mostly near the end of combat) they hit for about 50 and are ALL warriors. Skills they have: Kick, Bash, Dual wield, Double attack. **************LOOT************ Normally drops a few gp, most I've seen is 1pp 6 sp though. Also drops various research components. And Skeletal toes and fingers and BloodBlack wands. **************Related Quests*********** The fingers and toes are used for necro ShadowBound quests in the Temple of Solusek ro and both can, although rarely drop off a single Giant Skeleton. Not too sure what the BloodBlack wands are for, although I do know they are for a Wizard item in temple of solusek ro (Staff of the Temperate Flux maybe?)
As a lvl 23 Nec i could almost kill the red conning skeletons. Took it down to ZERO health but it killed me. Now i'm lvl 24 and it's time for revenge...
Hi there i am a lvl 20 Nec, i was wondering if anyone knows if these would be killable by me ? With std procedure darkness, /pet attack, Spook, other DOT's and spook when needed.
There are two ruins in the Rathe Mts. zone. One North of the Feerrott and one on the SW side where the HG's hang out. Which of these two ruins is where the Giant Skellie (that drops the ingot)spawns?
bloodback wand is one of four components needed to complete the " weeping wand " quest. It is a WIZ only wand +3 int with 5 charges of break enchantment. Just thought you'd like to know
The rare red giant skeleton for the cleric quest is level 30. Been there, conned him, killed him, got the t-shirt (about 6 times, once for each cleric in my guild)...always conned even to me at level 30.
The loot on these gaint skels is a skeletal toe and a skeletal finger and some pp. The skeletal toe and finger are both used in the Necromancer Shadowbound Armor quest in the Temple of Soluesk RO.
they only carry a few plat at most, along with some lore skeleton bones, and the normal bone chips. A level 29 mage could solo these rather easily. by simply using inferno shield and the pet heal you may not even have to cast on the thing. :)
There is a rare red boned giant skel. Level 30 or so.. maybe more... for Cleric's awesome 1H Blunt weapon. Drops Ingot of Sacreament. He only spawns at the ruins
