Start at the nw corner of the stage room and start clearing,,,dont forget the 2 tinytop that spawn on the stage. Go into the connecting hall to the dinning hall to south and open door. Inch up to it bringing 2 or 3 mobs with you. Dispose of them then finish room. Have seen Geartop spawn at doorway to connecting hall in the stage room and at the south end of the dinning table in the more southern room. fyi, once I used ranger aoe direction arrow, non target ring version, and it brought the blob up from the basement, Glorb iirc. haha

First you get to the room by going to the second floor (up the ramp to your right as you zone in) and go to the room labeled "east elevator to top floor" on the map attached to the zone home page. This is the link to the map: https://everquest.allakhazam.com/spawns/mansion-2ndfloor.jpg.

The entire room is an elevator and it will take you to the third door. The other elevators take you to the third floor as well but you can't get to Geartop's room because the doors are locked (at least I couldn't). Once you take the east elevator, you can get to the two rooms he spawns in. From there it is just a matter of clearing the rooms and the PHs. He popped in both rooms for me in two clearings. First time, no aug. Second time the aug popped. Took about an hour total time to run to the zone, find him and clear room twice.

Pretty easy to do and not nearly as tough as described in earlier posts.

One spawn point is, as mentioned, the SW corner of the stage. Specifically this is at 303, -366, 108 at the top floor in the room immediately north of the most south easterly room.

The second spawn point, again as mentioned, is in the most south easterly room of the top floor. He spawns at 212, -283, 108 on the south side of the table in that room.

Also to elaborate on my earlier post there are two mechanisms that spawn the tinytops.

Every 24-30 seconds (ie 4-5 ticks) you will see:

Geartop says 'I need some help, little ones!'

At which point 1 tinytop will spawn and attack

a tinytop says, 'Charge!'

Secondly Geartop spawns tinytops via a sort of reverse damage shield from melee damage (dots and DDs don't cause this):

Geartop says 'Oh! You've dislodged my little friends.'

This causes 1 tinytop to spawn and attack.

a tinytop says, 'Charge!'

Geartop only casts 1 spell:

Geartop has two PHs. In the Stage Room, the PH roams from door to door on the west side of the room. In the room just south of the stage room, it is the mob behind the desk.

I've killed him twice, both times 9 tinytops spawned during the fight. The first fight I burned him and then killed the 9 adds, and second time I killed each spawn as they popped. The second fight took 36 seconds longers (156, versus 120 seconds) and yet there was still just 9 adds. However on my second encounter with geartop he spawned a tinytop as he was being pulled to my fight spot, which didn't happen the first time. Also on that second fight I noticed a fairly long pause at the end of the fight that no tinytops spawned, followed by 2 in short succession at around 10%.

All this leads to me think there's a more exotic spawn system. Possibly one of the following:
- the spawns are procs
- they spawn 1 at a time at random intervals of 100-90, 90-80, 80-70 etc
- the spawns come every 10% or every 2 ticks, whichever occurs first

I'm killing this guy looking for his aug. Be warned it can be rare.
I'm not a fortunate player in that I get a drop on the first or 2nd kill =(
So doing this the hard way. Camping him. I can check logs but I believe this is day 8. I've gone through 4 stacks of Haste potions so I'm sure I've been here 40 hours or so. Killed Geartop 13X and still camping.
I have a zerker friend that logs on with a chanter to help in the evenings. When he is not here I solo the place with a healer Mercenary.

Will be glad to leave this zone and do some other things.

Just tried Geartop with the info supplied that adds were health based which would be pretty easy to deal with, but instead found that the adds spawned every 30 secs even though I never attacked Geartop himself, and they kept spawning, so they must have changed him again... be ready for lots of adds

Sitll tough but easier after patch
# May 19 2008 at 2:21 PM Rating: Default
Took him down last night, dropped a necrotic steam core and beer goggles. The adds did not despawn. Our tank was an sk with very high ac, I healed. I had to spam quickly until he was slowed, but after he was slowed it was fairly consistent. We had a good offtank which helped as adds can pile up if you don't have enough dps. I believe that the patch made him considerably easier, but he is still pretty formidable and takes a good group to kill. Tank said on pull that he was quading for 4k, I think he used to quad for 6k. Hope that helps.

Spawned him in 2 locations, one in the small room at the back of the table where there is no chair, and also in the big room with stage as a roamer near the first pillar closest to door to small room.
We pulled to northeast corner of big room behind stage.
Had one tiny top agroing when it popped, not much trouble.

Easily doable with one group since the nerf:
Spawned him twice in 5 hours.
During fight:
One add spawns every 10 percent health starting from pull:
Resulting in 10 adds by end of fight.
Adds are dark blue tiny tops, hitting for 1500's with very low hitpoints.
Did this easily with 7 people: Warr 4k buffed, Pal, Clr, Shm, Wiz, Mnk and Enc box.'
Cleric easily kept up with quick heals alone.
Chanter Chained Ae Mez and AeTash entire fight.
Shaman chained Ae slow.
Fight lasted about 45 seconds.
Tricky thing is that adds are programmed to agro healers first so best to keep healers close to melee to allow aetaunt and mezzes to go off without adds getting out of range.
At end of fight looted and evac'd quick as 10 adds are too much to keep mezzed at that point and some were loose with chanter down.
Returned to camp after first fight and War used furious disc with tantor to kill the 10 adds as they did not repop very soon.

1ST Drop was necrotic core, 2ND was geartop gear AND goggles both!

This fight is probably doable by having tank fight geartop while everyone else kills adds, they have very low hp, and 10 percent geartop health between each add pop. Have not tried this method.

He is now far easier to kill than Sparkbolt in Steam Factory.

Hardest thing about fight was keeping other groups from trying to move in on the named even trying to loot corpse after evac.

While he is marked in the map, he spawns in more than just that one spot. He can also spawn in the large ante-room to his. Also, he spawns about 10ish adds during the fight, which will NOT despawn after he dies, as someone else mentioned. On top, he hits very hard and fast and has an AE that gets you -1000khp/tick or so. I'll get the name next time we spend hours trying to kill him. We managed him twice, once got us the necrotic core, another the ac aug. Bar none, the toughest single-groupable (and we had two groups) mob we've ever seen. Crystallos nameds are easier than this by a lot.
