Overvolt Rigster the IV is in a camp beside the large catapult east of the zone to the Steamfont Mountains.

In order to request his group tasks, you must first complete one of his solo tasks.

If you are talking about the Red or Blue Gem Grade Faycites (that drop from trash mobs throughout the guardian), they are for the tradeskill quests from Eron Nurwistle. They don't seem to be pre-lootable, so unless you have the quests already, I would just destroy them...

Completing any of the generic tasks gives you the faction to get the real quests from him, the progression.

There are 5 tasks, each containing a different "floor" of the guardian. The rewards for the first 4 are 1/3 of a gem.

The first quest he gives out is called "Adventure in the Mechamatic Guardian." The only task is to... Adventure in the Mechamatic Guardian. I'm guessing this means wander around and kill things until you get the update (0/1).

It says to remove this task when done so appears just to be something to get you familiar with the zone.

Spent 3 hours, killed about 30 mobs and then eventually got aggro'd by a pacj of see-invis mobs and had to evac to zone-in. Since these 3 hours involved a lot of clearing past SI mobs, we didn't want to have to redo all our work so we quit the instance, incomplete.

Anyone have any idea exactly what you have to do to complete this "mission"?

Adventure in the Mechamatic Guardian is merely access to the zone for XP, other tasks and named kills. There is no point to it otherwise (you can't win it...).

I would presume you need to think like a Gnome. I think that your guess is a good start in GnomeThink. The next step in my GnomeEmulator Mind would be to kill from one end to the other, or to kill every single mob /spawn site at least once (takes a tracker to confirm all old mobs are dead). Maybe the term 'Adventure' in the task is a clue. Maybe it has something to do with LDON's, and you need to do something like an LDON would require. Since I have only done a few LDON's I can't speculate further here. Another thought is maybe the Gnome is an SOE employee, which means the quest may be broken, and you can't complete it as it is currently implemented. I know you wanted an exact answer, but maybe this will give someone an idea which will utimately answer your question.

Mobs respawn, and relatively fast, like 10 or 12 minutes. So clearing the entire zone, a la LDoN, isn't feasible---at least not until the level cap gets to 100 and one group can take on 100+ level 79-83 mobs and kill them all within 12 minutes. ;)

I was wrong that this is the "first" quest. This is the quest you get if you respond "job." But there is another highlighted word in his dialogue which gives you the series of quests mentioned here.

The "job" line of quests, commencing with the one I started, appears to be unsolved at this time.

Bah, answer my own question. The tasks listed above are single-player. But you need to be in at least a group of 3 to zone into the robot. This is accomplished by getting this "Adventure in the Mechamatic Guardian" mission and its completion follows when the group members complete whatever individual tasks they each have. The "Adventure" mission is only completed by dropping it after leaving the Guardian instance.
