These are the types of quests which they give to level 10 noobs in WoW. This is kinda sad. Once upon a time EQ players were fighting the very gods themselves in the Planes of Power expansion.

There have always been small quests like this in EQ.
The Planes of Power progressions were not quests, they were raid progressions - there were quests associated with the zones as you got keyed for them.
All that still exists in the new expansions.
Raiding progression, killing Gods/Demi-Gods/Dragons/Nasties etc.
