i camped this guy for a week solid for the warped steel legs, spawned him about twice a day, he can spawn anywhere between NE and NW on top level and wanders between both rooms, i also spawned him in NE room near the door once and didnt move from spawn point, loot allways not wha i wanted i ended up buying the legs lol
Ive camped this mob in the SE corner of the far North east room just befor elvators down. his place holders seemed to be mechanics, and if you get the mechanic as static spawns only you wont have to worry about him pathing around. I killed him 3 times using Wiz, SK and shammy combination, as well as merc cleric. It is a tough fight, but it can be done. he drops pants used in steam core combinations.
My group's done this guy quite a few times the last few days, mostly out of boredom. The tank scares me. o.O. Anyway. I sure hope they're going to spiff up Clerics the next expansion, this guy won't drop any of the plate for us. Happy beast/dru/monks, but nothing for the plate classes lately. Then again, that seems to be universal. Plate drops seem to be eerily rare when I'm in a group. ><
Similar to my post on Eldervine The Twisted, I wanted to post my newly collected data to clear up some misconceptions about this guy.
He did indeed spawn as a wanderer on the 3rd floor. The only effect he used was Fire Breath. His MAX melee hit was 3179 against a level 80 monk (3.4k AC, max defensives, 15% shielding) His average hit was 1724. He doesn't hit for 7k (maybe if he quads you it'll do 7k lol).
He did put out 1529 DPS against me though, which is more then any SHIP named I've run across, so expect T3 named difficulty with this guy.
He spawns at the far east end of the top floor and paths to the far west end then back.
You can tell which mobs are his ph because they path across the center, (the atrium that separates the east side from the west side... has 3 steamsuits guarding there). Almost all of the mobs that path on the east side don't cross over and vice versa, so the 2-3 mobs that do cross over from one side to the other are your targets if you want to spawn Sootmane.
His ph isn't necessarily a minotaur; most of the time it's a steamwork gnome.
Camped this guy tonight and got him to spawn 2 times in about 4 hours. We were camping up on the top floor just left of the elevators. Both times he dropped scratched hide legs. Another sad wizzy night but happy monk.
He is found in the north-east of the zone. Head up the 3 sets of elevators towards MMM and the east. He is a roamer and any of the minotaurs are place-holders. I found that a safe camp for the group is the the NW corner of the NE most zone.
He does spawn on the top level (before the scrapyards). There are a couple mobs that wander on the path from the NE room all the way to the NW room and back. These are the PHers (or at least some of them). Kill these wanderers (not the wandering groups of gnomes, it will be a single clockwork or mino - maybe brownies on the PH cycle also, not sure on that). He will eventually spawn and wander all the way across the 4th level on the path. Makes it tough to camp him, since he can spawn anywhere along that path and wanders all the way across the 4th level so anyone camping on the 4th level may grab him.
He does summon. Casts Fire breath hit for 2640 hp, DoT portion of spell hit for 1300 hp. Max hit on 80 wizard with 2412 AC was 2737, but only got hit twice. Spawns on to floor in Fortress Mechanotus and was roaming east to west when I encountered him. Hope this info helps some.
Yes he did drop that, eh Xyn! Hits like a truck, first time pull and i didnt pop fortitude or final stand, and he ate me in 2 rounds. No one was set for the beating he gave us. Second round, popped appropriate disciplines, put his back to rest of group to avoid AE and we took him down without a scare. Does NOT enrage
Sootmane does indeed enrage. Boxed him with my wife today. Our first visit to Fort Mech and since he dropped Tier 2 armor, we figured he would be as hard as nameds in HOS. We were wrong. Got him down to 60%, then his AE got us. Next attempt, i faced the mob away from the group, got him down to 35%, but was still AE'ing us for some reason, even facing only the tank. Then i placed him at max healing distance from the group, still facing away from the group, and only the tank took the AE. So, direction AND distance is important. Dropped leather legs. Hit me for max 2.9k at 3250 AC and 1000AA's. It was tough for a casual group like ours, boxing doesnt make it easier i guess, but this mob was by far the toughest we have killed in Tier 2 zone.
The armor from these nameds can be gotten far easier in BMK and HOS, i have no clue why the nameds in a similar tiered zone, who drops the similiar items, are so much tougher here. It doesnt look good for us in Tier 3 zones i think. This mob, however, we will kill again, need more legs :)
Perhaps they changed him since you fought. I took him a couple times today and had him near the group but facing away and the AE only ever hit the tank. Just gotta be careful pulling him into the group area so he's not AEing them on incoming.
Just killed him the other day NOT ! an easy mob OR WORTH the Trouble imo Aug he Drops is +58HP, +5 to Magic Fire Cold Disease Poison, Slot type 7/8, and requires a Class XIV distiller to remove it. Mob hits for 5k ish 2.somek on tank with final stand has a nasty DD with DoT only hits you if you are infront of him but still harsh mob.

my group tryed to take on this guy lastnight he is very difficult and should probally be coned as a raid mob but does not. He hits for up to 5.5k, had a dirrectional AE (forward) it hit for 2k to 5k and procs often, and he has what i think is a single target dot called i think fire breath that deals 1.5k damager per tick (not sure of durration) He wanders the top of mechanos along the path from the east side to the west side
