In Permafrost (Ancient Heroes raid): See this quest entry for information.

In Permafrost (regular zone): Lady Vox, along with Lord Nagafen and Phinigel Autropos, is one of EverQuest's original three raid bosses.

Those who would challenge the ice dragon would be advised to increase their Magic and Cold resists to counter her Fear and Ice AEs, respectively. She is also a cleric, and, as such, possesses the ability to cast Complete Heal on herself.

Vox is a Cleric; has 32,000 hps; summons; and hits for a max 205.

Last night we got wiped bad on Tholuxe Paells...60 of us. Yeah, I know, 60 people should be able to drop her easy. Here's what happened. Our raid leader was a melee, so he ran in with the melee. He died immediately so instead of someone calling in the casters all at once, we waited about two minutes before trickling into Vox's lair. She got down to 10% the CH'd herself. I starfire'd her, she resisted, her breath hit me for 15, 45, and 250 at 199 CR. I decided it was time to gate back to safe hall (only one other guy in there with me), but she summoned me and ate me.

Have your melee run in and start pushing her all around the lair so she can't cast. NEVER let her get on the rocks or the wall b/c then you can't push her and she will CH. Have one raid leader (or more) inside the lair coordinating things in there and one in the safe hall coordinating the sending in of the different groups. Then he should go in once everyone else is in.

Just keep pushing her around, and maybe allow three or four mages to summon air pets and give them two gnoll hide lariats to help interrupt Vox's casting.

Always have levitate or DMF on. Those polar bear pits aren't any fun at all, and CR from the pits is awful. During your CR remember that an Ice Giant does spawn in the safe hall, so be sure to rez a few tanks along with the Rogues and clerics. Once you get at least one Rogue rezzed the CR begins in full force. Alternate between dragging out Rogue bodies and Cleric bodies. Then tanks, then Necros (in case summoning is needed) then all others.

Always keep one cleric in the safe hall while Vox is getting taken down. It isn't much fun for them (though certainly safer), but CR is impossible without one cleric (unless you want to use one charge on someone's Staff of Forbidden Rites) still alive to Rez. Good luck, and drop that ugly mother.

If Vox is only lvl 55, why cant 1 or 2 lvl 60's solo her???

Yup, actually what happens is if Vox (or Naggy for that matter) gets close enough to you, it says gives you a message saying that they banish you. In Permafrost Vox will banish you to the zone of Perma. In Naggy's Lair he will banish you to LS.

Once I was helping do the buff circle and the servers went down for 3 hours. I ended up just going to sleep and knew I was in trouble the next day. I logged in and sure enough was face to face with some Ice Giants. I knew I was dead, so I took off running into Vox's Lair hoping that they hadn't killed her. Sure enough she was up and with 36 hit points left, she banished me (thus saving me) to Everfrost. Woohoo Vox! Thanks for the save.

Hydro is correct, I participated in a Vox raid mainly to assist with organization with my lvl 60 drOOid and after casting just 1 DoT i was summoned out to the everfrost zone.. from there its all moral support, cause there is no way youre getting back into her lair alone.. can a 2 or 3 high lvls solo her? the answer is no, not just no, HELL NO. A common misconception of the game is a blue con doesnt mean its going to be an easy fight, it just means a mob is leveled lower than you, but you'll find at higher levels that doesnt mean jack a lvl 50+ mob is much much stronger than a lvl 50+ player. if youre planning a vox raid the most efficent way to do it is 55-65 players between lvls 47 and 57 depending on class (high lvl healers are okay) and do not underestimate the power of this snapperhead.. we dropped her within 4 minutes, but not before losing 1/3 of the raid.

Since I couldn't post it on the page for the Mistwalker I'll answer it here. IT NO LONGER DROPS.....kinda....
From what my friend told me who was a GM on Cazic-Thule, a group of like 6 or so rangers and druids, all with Mistwalkers decided to clear out Vox, Naggy, and every other plane then could get to and did it in record time.
After this it was nerfed to 1 per server.
It will drop after the person who currently has it on your server either deletes it (yeah..right), their body rotts before they can get to it (if they have this weapon...they can probably get a rez with no problem.), or gets fed up with the game, deletes their chracter with all the items on it.(Another yeah right! if i had a chracter with a Mistwalker...can you say E-Bay?)
So, it still drops...kind of....but as far as we're concerned...close enough!

Why couldn't a group of about 20-30 ShadowKnights just harmtouch that dragon and take it out? They could do 8000-12000 total damage just from harmtouching. Does Vox have more HP than this?
RE: ShadowKnights?

of course she have more !
count on 30-35 K hp, so after your harmtouch, if no healer, start to call someone for CR :)

She has exactly 32K HP like all old-world top dogs. You *could* assemble an army of SKs but that army does not exist and the zone would not support it. Nice try though =)
RE: ShadowKnights?
# Aug 28 2001 at 12:55 AM Rating: Decent
Northener, you are saying that it would be impossible to get 32 lvl 50 SKs? I dont think so.
RE: ShadowKnights?
# Sep 14 2001 at 11:16 AM Rating: Default
Might not be impossible, but 32 sk's wouldn't cut it. At lvl 51 my ht does 731 dmg so you'd need upwards about 60 lvl 50 to 52 sk's. I've only ever had ht resisted 3 times and one was on Naggy so I guess Vox will resist it too. So now you have to have some chanters to debuff. Sigh, it seems alot easier to do it the normal way, doesn't it? Oh well, the original poster gets credit for doing some thinking although a little minus for not doing enough research (or enough thinking) =)
Vox Raid

Just to add information here in the forum.

Vox dropped the lvl 49 wizard spell Ice Comet!

Woot! Being the lowest level on the raid 45 I was overjoyed when nobody else but myself rolled on this item, and by default, won this spell. :-)

By the way, my group, got the xp for the Vox kill, and 3 in my group had ran into the pit just before the fighting started, leaving a monk, an enchanter and myself a wizz. The monk died quick because of the lack of any healers (its difficult to heal from a lava pit). I had casted conflag. 3 to 4 times each hitting for 610damage, the last being the death blow to Vox. What does this imply? That I had probably caused amongst the greatest damage (surprising to me), and, that for future raids, invite wizards(who naturally have a better ability to land their spells, and for full damage) from level 44 upwards (the level they get conflag.). Ofcourse they have to have a high magic and cold resist before even considering - I had, unbuffed, 69 magic resist, and 113 cold resist.

I know that the above was a shameless plug for young wizards, however, given our lack of desirability in normal groups (for heck knows why) I am glad their is a good use for wizards on important raids (pre 53). So you would be a fool to reject any wizzies 44 and higher for this raid. (They have to have the appropriate unbuffed resistance to cold/magic ofcourse).

They aren't lava pits, they are invisible holes in the ground around her lair that drop you into a pit with highly aggressive and powerful polar bears, tentacle terrors, and what not. Your pretty much dead if you fall down there unless you can FD or gate in a timely manner...
RE: Vox Raid

Not even fd saves your butt if your down there alone. Managed to fd and then invis myself and was triumphant in spirit. Until the tentacle terrors saw through the invis. Jupp, they see through regular invis and Sneak&Hide. Makes CR a pain for the rogues, terror sees through, attacks, Sneak&Hide drops, everything else aggroes =)

Alright, I'll admit, I haven't done this yet. I do plane of Fear raids regularly, and have read through enough posts there to know alot of people don't know or understand spells work different there. I was wondering, if spells (any) act different here or if some just don't work at all. Also, if I could get some posts of people say who is reliable to get some info on Vox. Personally, she has never interested me, but there are some in my guild who want a raid put together for her, so here I am, asking for some good info. So if you don't mind, I would like some of you who have been on a Vox raid to let me know what worked for you, and any info on the raiding party you can give.

Thanks

If you're going to have so many groups you should have around 5 clerics healing so the tanks don't get owned.

Organization is KEY!!! If you are not organized, you will be doomed to fail. When i went on my first Vox raid (it was the leaders first time leading a raid) and the buffing system was horrible. At least 2 people in every group went in with only half buffs or less. I saw this and thought to myself "Why do i want to spend 4 hours on a CR for myself?" I got out of there asap and sure enough, they only got Vox down to 50% when everyone got eaten. Some of my guildies that went told me that the leader got rezzed and made some excuse to log off. Vox sat on a lot of the corpses so we had to bring in a necro and about 13 coffins. Total, there was only about 40 people on the raid. This is ok for a Naggy raid if everyone knows what they're doing, but for Vox, I am told you should have upwards of 60 people.
Hope that helps.

P.S. The raid referred to above went down on 7/13/01 on the Nameless Server.

Ok, for any who doubted my qualifications earlier, I just led a successful raid on Vox not but an hour ago.

You need 7 groups. 5 tank groups, 1 enchanter group, and 1 nuker group, all with appropriate healers. 3 enchanters MINIMUM but 4 preferred. A bard in every group helps more than you could imagine.

Cold resist is supreme -- if they don't have it, they don't live. I set a minimum at 90 CR unbuffed but let clerics and enchanters slide a little.

She dropped 2 eyepatches, 2 hammers, and 1 bracer. It was a caster day.

What is the common drop off of Vox? Someone told me she usually drops at least the eyepatch or the rbb, and it's rare for neither of those to drop.
RE: common drop?
# Jun 04 2001 at 11:50 AM Rating: Default
Everything seems to have an equal chance of dropping. Nothing seems to drop more than anything else. I have seen 3 books at once, 2 scales at once, 2 hammers at once, 2 staves at once. It's true though, I haven't been to a raid where she did not at least drop 1 eyepatch or 1 rbb.

The truth
# May 21 2001 at 8:26 PM Rating: Good
I have been on many, many Vox raids. I hold the white dragon scale for my epic. Let me get a few misconceptions out of the way.

Vox can be done, reliably, with about 40 people. The battle lasts around 3 minutes.

I've never seen stun used to keep her from healing. It's always been mana sieve. At least...on the successful raids.

Vox does not give Ring of Scale faction any longer. She gives a Vox hit and a Nagafen hit, just like the ice goblins now. You start out at apprehensive faction with Ring of Scale -- I wouldn't worry. Check Gorenaire or Talendor or the others to see what your faction is at. Just don't use wolf form or skelly form around those dragons.

No one in their right mind would attack Vox without first pulling the giants out of the lair. Just be careful to make sure Vox is not residually agro -- use bind sight (by targeting the rock in the king room). If she's running into the wall and warping back to her spawn point, she's agro.

Typically, the raid leaders require 80 or 90 cold resist, minimum, unbuffed. There is some evidence to suggest that if your buffed cold resistance exceeds 255, that it may reset, even though it displays on your screen as 256+. I'm currently talking with the raid leader about this and we're experimenting.

Max damage on Vox's breath is 500 damage. Least I've ever taken is 15 damage, that with 254 CR, but it was the rare exception, I usually take a lot more. She is capable of doing it every 10 seconds, but she's usually slow on the uptake -- casting, fearing, summoning, eating people, etc. She is capable of fearing every 30 seconds, but again, she might be doing something else.

She drops the scale fairly often -- I couldn't tell you with any certainty how often, because the number of...successful...raids I've been on is 3. No scale first time, 1 scale next time, 2 scales last time. They are not lore. They are droppable/tradable as well.

Pets? Pets are a million problems in one small package. We never use them. Think about fear, eh?

The pits are full of bears, and if you fall in, we all laugh at you and point fingers because you're holding the raid up. I've never seen a Vox raid that cleared the bear pits.

It's not really feasible to run around the corner for heals, not like in Nag raids. Clerics are in the middle of the fray.

Corpse retrieval is best done by someone 53+ that is able to sneak. And it takes forever.

Lastly, my unbuffed magic resist is 54, and I've never been feared by Vox since I hit level 51. Before level 51, fear hit me every time. In my log, before level 51, I'd get two messages:

"You lose control of yourself!
You resist the Dragon Roar spell!"

or sometimes:

"You lose control of yourself!
You lose control of yourself!"

But now, at level 51, even if I don't resist it, the icon appears in my buff box and nothing happens. I don't run, even though I'm feared, have full control of myself, and at the end of the duration, it tells me I regain control, which I've had all along.

/tell me if you want any clarification on this stuff. Vox raids are awesome.

If you don't want lag to be a factor, you should do the following. It helps a lot.

Type /showspelleffects off
This makes the magic sparkles disappear.

Go to Options>Chat Filter. Turn off all the battle related things you don't need, like your misses, others misses, NPC misses, PC Spells, NPC Spells (You might want this if you're wanting to interrupt a spell), Bard songs, and anything else. This will reduce battle spam to nearly nilch, but you won't know how your partners are doing. You'll only know when you're hit and when you hit.

That also makes it a lot easier to communicate during fights.

A raid is as good as the person leading it. It doesnt matter the numbers you have! frankly i dont care if you hav 1 member or 100 you still ahve the same chance unless you can organize it as such.

1)5 to 6 49+ chanter to take mana - necros to give to chanters
2)cleric in all grps DONT CH grp members it takes too long
3)good meat shields with good resists - crap resists go for crap force

you can win a raid if organized like this with maybe 5 6 or 7 grps. She is hard enought say even if you had 100 players that doesnt mean over kill that could mean multiple hour CR if you fail.

forgot to say BRING A ROGUE! ever try CR without one? its hell because either you have a necro summoning or a monk FD dragging them. FD dragging takes so frickin long it aint worth it plus monk is at uber risk.

as for the lvl a lvl 53 plus can go as far as the rock door you must pass.

If your a necro or gnome and maybe other small races i dunno you can see vox through the wall of king room (necro use CoB)

NOTE this is all gathered from xp on raids. I maybe lucky (rolled perfect 500 outta 500 on staff of forbidden rites on first sucessful raid) but i know what I am saying. dont get stingy on the peridots clerics or who ever is supplyin em cause you will need them

i definitly need to have a say on this one,
so what if a level 57-60 charicter can con a dragon blue, thats what makes the evolution of this game so great. Theres much greater dragons to kill that are harder if ya want and its only fair to go back pick off a lesser dragon for fun sometimes. who cares if its to easy i think by level 60 you should have earned the right to do that, and the stuff you get isnt that great anymore because of the drops off the harder dragons. by my opinion this is the BIGGEST mistake Verent has ever made,.. then again i havent been playin for more than 6 months, so I must have missed some nasty verent mishaps,.. LOL
