He's on the Priests of Life faction, which you can easily raise by handing in a ton of Bone Chips to Lashun Novashine in North Qeynos - You can buy endless amounts of Bone Chips from certain modern vendors, such as the gnome lady Marie Fay in Brell's Rest. Turning in about 3000 (30 stacks; you can hand in stacks of 100 at a time now) took me from apprehensive to ally.

South Karana, surrounded by 4 "a gnoll guard". These gnolls look like they use the same graphic as the blackburrow gnolls. Located northwest of Paw entrance, at about /loc -1511, 2257, 5.

The bandit camps are all over West Karana (and thank Golly I have my Holy Steed). Farmed and turned in 82 sashes to Chesgard Sydwen (took about two hours); now Allied with him, all of Qeynos, Brother Hayle and the Priests of Life. Yay me!

Raise Faction with Brother Hayle
# Jan 22 2006 at 12:43 AM Rating: Decent
Ok the location of the raiders that drop the sashes and respawn quick are at loc: -4080, -1942, -60 Located in North Karana southeast of the druid circle on the shoreline.

The spawn rate is very high here, by the time I got done with the last one of the six(mind you one or two hits at 51st Pally) the first one had alrdy respawned. Getting average one sash per 8 of em killed. (8 spawn here)

Karana Bandits got worse
Karana Residents got better
Guards of Qeynos got better
Guards of Highpass got better
Circle of Unseen Hands got better

The sashes are what will give you the faction raise for Priests of Life.

The trick to enter and exit the cell is to jump thru the bars. Right side on the way in and right side on the way out. Im a high elf pally and had no problems jumping thru. I read all yours posts and still couldnt find the stupid handle. So I jumped and it worked first time. Took me about 5 tries to get out cause I was jumping in the middle and left. First time I tried the gap on the right side it worked. Hope this works for you as well.

There's a very simple trick to getting out of his cell if you're locked in it. Since you cannot target a gnoll outside to tag, just use Flash of Light on Brother Hayle. As long as you're high enough level, you can then just train the zoneline trailing 30 gnolls and Brother Hayle behind you. Don't kill him and no faction hit.

Err,because all you"helpful"people post all these little tricks they are of course nerfed. You CANNOT pull/blind mob a thru the door and they will open it.... they run thru the closed door, and as far as faction goes you only need warmly to do this quest as I have done it several times and never was my faction above warmly to Brother Hayle. Just a heads up to all those thinking they can get out of cell without gate pots or a porter. =D

There is a very easy way to get through any of the locked doors in splitpaw (and there are more than just what are at the jail). What you can do is either pull a gnoll on the other side of the gate that you want to go and have him open it, or in the case of brother hale, fear / intimidate one of the two gnolls in the jail or brother hale himself so that he runs out of the cell opening the door as he runs. :-) I use this all the time in splitpaw to get through the locked doors that are even unpickable / untargetable / unopenable.

Just thought I'd share my two cents worth.
Had a cleric friend who had the hilt on him from Xicotl (I spent forever camping him over a few days) we decided to try multi-questing it...we both worked with faction till it was Kindly. I initiated the quest with hayle by giving him bank note, then he gave me back another note and stated I needed the 4 items. At that time my cleric friend handed Brother Hayle the hilt, then I handed in each of the 3 remaining pieces I had one at a time and he gave me the Soulfire! WOOT. Anyways just thought I would pass on info about faction and that this can be multi-quested as I didnt see any mention of multi-questing this at all.

Ok. thanks for that info but how in Quellious' name did you get past the jail doors? I am trying to to soulfire quest also but the jail gate won't open. I have killed all the gnolls in that area thinking there is a key but nothinng... there are two hooks hanging but no levers or buttons that I can see. I need to get the door open so I can reach Brother Hayle. I am so frustrated right now that I am almost ready to give up. sigh. Thanks in advance for your assistance. Also once the doors close and lock on you can you be ported out?

there are levers on the outside of each door, first one is on the right. i took a druid with me, and he ported us out after we did the turn in. brother hayle will tell you (too late) that the doors close and lock after you get in. so, either a druid or mage or? for porting out, or a couple of friends to stand outside and re-open doors. (two doors to open to get to Hayle)

Conducting the Zimel's Blades hand-ins
# Dec 30 2002 at 5:17 PM Rating: Excellent
42 posts
This is an FYI post...

The Zimel's Blades script calls for the questor to visit Bro. Hayle, deep in the Infected Paw (Split Paw Lair) jail **twice**.

The first hand-in is the "Note to Bro. Hayle", obtained by giving the "H.K. 102" key to the High Keep Bank Clerk. Bro. Hayle will take the "Note", and read out a shopping list of items that are required to obtain Soulfire.

The second hand-in, consisting of The Brilliant Sword of Faith (obtained by killing Sir Lucan D'Lere, and returning his Testimony of Truth to Valeron Dushire in the Hall of Truth), your Testimony of Truth (obtained by killing Guard Willia in NFP, and returning her Token of Truth to Merko, in the Hall of Truth) and the Glowing Sword Hilt (obtained by killing Xicotl in Castle Mistmoore), is scripted to happen on a later visit.

If you're not following the Zimel's Blades script line-for-line, you can do both hand-ins during a single visit.

In my experience, I handed Bro. Hayle four items: the Note to Bro. Hayle, my Testimony of Truth, my Brilliant Sword of Faith and my Glowing Sword Hilt.

Bro. Hayle took my quest items, looked them over, then handed back the "Note to Bro. Hayle." He didn't give me the flaming sword!! I wasn't expecting that!! To this day, I wonder how I didn't wake every Gnoll in the Lair with my throaty bark of dismay.

In desperation, I shoved the "Note" back into Bro. Hayle's hand, insisting that there must have been some kind of mistake, for I had just handed him all of the required items.

Without a word, he pocketed the note, turned his back for a heartbeat, then spun around and thrust Soulfire into my hands! WOOT!

The reason I've posted this information is twofold. The first is to prevent anyone else from feeling the cold panic that I felt when I handed my hard-won quest items to Bro. Hayle, and received only a scrap of paper in return.

The second reason? Preventing others from doing what a close friend, a fellow guild officer, did with "Note" when Bro. Hayle handed it back to him: my poor guildie destroyed it, instead of handing it back.

Since Bro. Hayle retained my friend's other quest items, we're contemplating ways to jog Bro. Hayle's memory. I'm sure that unused Brilliant Sword of Faith, Testimony and Glowing Sword hilt are crowding his cell ;->

We're going to sneak back into West Freeport, give Zimel another blanket, some more bog juice and some more edible goo, then present the H.K. 102 note to the High Keep bank clerk to obtain another "Note to Bro. Hayle." We'll take the note to Bro. Hayle, and see if he remembers my friend. Hopefully Bro. Hayle will simply accept the note in exchange for Soulfire.'s off to West Freeport and Mistmoore. Again. Blechhhhh.

Well after hours and hours of myself and my pally friend trying to get his soulfire for him we go up to Brother Hayle and find that my friend is aprehansive to Mr Hayle. So we do some of the quests to get the faction. (hand in bone chips to novashine in Qeyons and some others) They are ALL WORTHLESS.. for hours on end we did theese dumb quests and so hardly any improvement.

I looked up one quest that i never saw the bandit sash quest. You can kill either bandints or the raiders to recive the sashes and hand them into Chesguard Sydwen in South Qeynos. The best spot i saw was in West Karana there is mulitple Bandint camps around the Ogre camp area. We collected sashes for about a hour to fill up our invtentory (about 40 or so) Went from Indiffernt to Ally in 1 hour. Definatley by far the best quest to raise your faction with this fool. The others a WORTHLESS =)

There are switches on the wall. Just look around and they look like little torch holders or something. Just click on them and they open the cells. We first did it by casting a spell on one of the gnolls in the cell, and he came running and opened it, but then the pally got locked inside, so we were searching around for a bit, finally found it.

From what I understand killing lucan isnt the end of your faction in Freeport but the truth is raising it without enraging people that help you get the soulfire is tricky. I havent found any ways to raise faction without enraging the good guys but you are better off leaving it be. Freeport isnt that great of a town anyway and if you need to get around use the sewers.

As I have found out twice now is that you need to have Ally faction with the Knights of Truth and at least warmly with the guards of Qeynos.
Don't think that Kindly is good enough nor Warmly.
The easiest faction builder is to either make a mule monk or shadowknight and have them kill the fish in the pool at the Temple of Truth in Qeynos. Then you can loot the corpse and deliver the Koalindi corpse to Guardian in the pool. Keep doing this until you reach Ally faction. You may need to make a couple of different "mules" to reach Ally for the will become KoS rather quickly.

Just head to South Karana and follow the shore to the left from that bridge that goes to NK. When you get to the raider camp, kill them all and keep killing them for the Bandit Sashes. They spawn fairly quick, and about 70 Sashes will get you from indiff to ally. You turn them in to the guy outside the pally guild standing next to the merchant (Qeynos pally guild) not bad cash get a bronze weapon for each one. i made about 200 plat getting myself to ally.
Koalindl Fish for faction

There is no need to kill the Koalindl Fish. Just go to Surefall Glade, get the Flask of Nitrates. Run over to the Ak'Anon zoo, lower level, and give the little gnome the Flask of Nitrates, and get the regurgatonic. Run over to West Karanas to Frostbite, and give him the regurgatonic, and he spits up the Koalindl Fish.

That takes too long to do for a pally who can neither port or sow him / herself. Best thing is to create a "mule" SK that starts in Qeynos and have that toon kill the fish. Then log on your pally and loot the fish. Even more ideal would be to have a friend create the mule so that you can just sit there and loot the fish after he or she commits suicide killing it for None of the work and all of the rewards...but hey, that's what friends DO :)

I found this to be the quickest way to build faction with PoL. In order to make the fish quest work, you will need to already be Amiable to PoL or you'll just get a message saying that "only a follower of Life can be trusted with this quest" or some such. I got up to Amiable with coins (made them all back in reward money), then got up to Ally with fish. It only takes about an hour and around 8 - 10 fish. REAL quick. :-) Looking forward to my first burning sword. LOL

The Quickest Way to get WARMLY Faction
# Aug 07 2001 at 12:56 PM Rating: Decent

Get about 200-250gp and turn it into Lashun. This should get you to Amiable Faction with PreistsofLife. Find a friend who can invis himself and/or who doesn't visit Qeynos very often and have them kill the Koalindl Fish who spawn in the pool beneath the 'flying saucer' (Or find a shadowknight, when you kill the fish it is positive shadowknight faction. The person who killed the fish for me was chaining part of the sk epic and needed better faction to do it). They pop every 3 minutes and about 1:2 or 1:3 have the 'corpse' on them. They are lore, so after each one you get turn it into the person who is swimming in the water w/ full plate. This gives you a LARGE faction boost. In about 4 fish i got to kindly faction, and another 2 got me to warmly. This is by far the easiest way to do it.

If you are a Paladin you need to have good faction with Priests of Marr and Knights of Truth. The reason for this is because Brother Hayle is the one you get your Soulfire from and I found out the hard way that if your faction isn't at least warmly (mine was indifferent) then he won't give you the sword when you give him your 3 items that you worked so hard for. To raise faction with him kill Guard Reskin (EC), Guard Brendyl (Nro), Guard Tolus (EC) and Olunea Miltin (EFP) I wouldn't recommend killing any of the guards in EFP unless you have at least (AT LEAST) one full group of lvl 35+. My guild did it with 2 groups and still had a tough time. You can also raise faction by killing orcs and dervs. Hope this has been helpful.

Just find someone that is already KOS or doesn't give a rip...have them kill the fish away from the NPC swimming in the sit around...loot the Koalindi corpse...give it to him and bam..instant HUGE faction uplift...don't bother with the bone chip crap or the 2gp crap...this is the fastest way to do it..

I also tried the 2gp crap and spent 45 minutes handin it in...quite a strain on yer eyes, btw.

GET your faction up to warmly with Life, I did the quest without doing so, and didn't get the soulfire. Was ******* to say the least. That was months ago, though, so that's behind me. Anyways, I did the bonechip quest, about 1000 times. Get a few backpacks full of stacks. Buy em up cheap in the nek woods newby area, or in FoB or something. A little platinum goes a long way for newbies. I also did the Bandit sash quests allot, camping that area between the two bridges in North Karana. The bones go to a paladin in the temple of thunder, named Wolfen something-or-other (spelling?), and the sashes go to the guildleader near the Shield Salesman, also in the Temple of Thunder. Make sure you visit the temple of life to check warmly faction, and upon turning in the items, turn in YOUR testament first, because that's the easiest of the 4 quest components to get. A month later, after I took these precautions, I recieved the soulfire.

The Bottom Line

Hello. I want to know the bottom line. What is the best way to increase your faction to warmly with Brother Hayle?
I hope to hear from someone who has ACTUALLY done the Soulfire quest.

Go to the Temple of Life in Qeynos. Halfway up the ramp there should be an NPC (though he sometimes wonders the zone), you give him 2gp at a time and you get exp faction adjustment. I have actually done the SF quest and this is the absolute fastest way to increase your faction.

Actually I have just recently finished the Soulfire quest and the fastest way by far to get faction up to warmly was by getting some friend to kill the Koalindl fish, only took 5 fish to hand into the paladin Enric something and I got from amiable to warmly, whereas I spent well over 30 minutes giving 2gp to that Novashine guy and got 0 noticeable faction change. Get a friend to make a temp char, one that starts in qeynos, buff him up a bit and let him kill the fish for you. ONE IMPORTANT THING....don't actually help the guy or kill the fish yourself during battle...HUGE faction hit against temple of life if you do.

Actually, if you get the Regurgatonic from Ak'Anon and give it to Frostbite (or whatever dog it is that ate the Koalindl Fish) he'll couch it up and it won't cost any faction at all.

That's true, and it's the only "true" way of getting the fish. I'm sure I will do the mule thing, only because faction is the worst part about questing.

I say only "true" because the mule-killing-fish way is almost cheating...but, like I said...I'll probably do it as well.

The problem with the tonic is: It takes a while to get the tonic, then you have to travel back to Frostbite, and you only get one fish. It takes anywhere from 5-20 fishes (depending on starting faction) to get to the faction level you need.

I would have to agree that making a mule would be easier in this case. Much faster than running your pally from zone to zone. I did the regurgitonic quest constantly with my druid in order to do the Stein of Moggok quest but as we all know, druids can port so the fish part isn't really that hard. Pally's however would benefit more from having a friend make a mule SK who can just commit suicide basically and let you loot the fish over and over again.
sashes is very fast faction increase
# Jul 25 2000 at 8:49 PM Rating: Decent
kill bandits in in w.karanas its a very fast spawn usually 6 bandits per spawn however you want to stagger it. then turn in the red sashes to
Chesguard somebody hehe at the entrace to the house of thunder(pally guild) in Qeynos. you get awesome faction and he also gives you bronze
weapons back to sell or whatever.... i have given him 28 sashes so far and went from indiffernt to kindly one more trip to bandits and im hoping to get question is why the heck is the temple of life indiff anyway to a
paladin?something to think about

that is a very quick way, but in regards to your indif, my friend is a high elf pally and started at dubious, that is really messed up. that and my being dubious as a cleric of tunare to the rangers and druids of tunare in surefall, that is another messed up thing

Priest Faction

Get faction by doing the quests in Qeynos at the temple. Its the one near the lake. Has a "Flying Saucer" above the lake. I would give bone chips and 2gp at a time to Lashun until you are at least Indifferent to everyone standing around the water. Next do the Blessed Oil Quest. Details on Allakhazams. The priest who gives you the oil is one of the 3 on the right if you are facing the pool from the entranceway. He will ask you if you will take the oil to Brother Estle (located right on the road in WK when zoning from QHills). Once you give him the oil you will get faction. You may also get the prayer bead quest. This ultimatly leads back to Brother Hayle. I kept doing the bonechips, and the Blessed oil quest until i got good enough faction to get my Band of Rodcet nife. Im sure you Pally's out there could still use this strategy to gain enough faction for Soulfire. If so, come group with me on Erollisi Marr heh.

Also you can kill Skeletons at the ruins in SK near the stone bridge. I think its only the tougher ones that give u faction. Also beware the increased spawn rate of Lord Grimrot.
TOL Faction

You can alost get faction with TOL by turning at least 2 bonechips into Lashun Novashine at the Qeynos Gates or At The Temple of Life

You want to raise faction with Priests of Life turn in the rabid pelts to them. You get the pelts in Qeynos hills.

Brother Hayle is part of the PriestsofLife from Qeynos, you need warmly faction to retrieve SoulFire. My friend tried it with only amiably faction and got a "thank you".
Faction w/ Hayle
# May 16 2000 at 7:32 PM Rating: Decent
You could probably get better faction with him by killing WFP/EFP guards, or killing lots of orcs in E.commons. Pretty much anything that raises faction w/ the Knights of Truth

You might find that Brother Hayle is NOT in fact on the Knights of Truth Faction list..

Perhaps if you thought of looking at the date of his post (May 2000) you'd see that his post was the first one here, so it wasn't answered yet.
