Nope. Mellee's dont have much hope soloing these. Rangers "could" bow kite them, but they hit for 90s and have 4500-5000hps. SK's with the right gear could probably do them as well, but it would take you a while, and there aint a lot of room to play with them on the beach.
Get yourself a shaman/druid partner though and go to town.
Rangers with a swarmcaller or earthcaller can solo these quite easily, without bow kiting. Often see rogues and monks ID'ing them around ac isle, and on numerous occasions i've seen 55+ warriors solo'ing ac pops.
They DO NOT hit for 90's, 76 max. AC/corrupt/etc is a different story, but "a cyclops" and "a seafury cyclops" hit for 76dmg tops. SK's would have a field day given a spot with pathing, and even pallies can root/heal with minimal risk post 50.
I as a monk hunted here at 50. It was hard, and I had to fear kite them. Had to use mend on most fights.
At level 51 they became much easier, and a viable place to grind exp. An SK should have it easy as they can snare (darkness) and fear kite easily. A ranger should be able to snare and kite them a bit too. I haven't seen many meelees here solo tho besides monks and SK's.
To solve the problem with them running to the middle of the island, dont chase them all the way. I get an Instill Doubt to land, hit them for 2 kicks, and then run back to the waters edge. They will often run a bit more, and then turn around and run back to me with no adds. Rinse, repeat.
As an SK I started hunting these at 51, so I don't know about before that. You CAN fear kite here, just find the part of the beach with what looks like druid rings. Pull them to the waters edge, snare, and fear. Using highest level fear I get maybe one add for 20 pulls so long as your snare holds out.
Well, as a lvl 44 Magician, I would have to say no, not untill you get level 44. You can probably win 50% of the time but if you want to risk it, then go ahead. I couldn't solo anything in the Dreadlands (except the stonegazers, stupid birds) without dying and they are all aproximatly the same level of creatures. However at 44 with the new spells, I could solo things with 60 mana and win with the pet only at 50% health. Let me tell you this, 44+ mage spells may not be the ebst but they aree xtremely fun. It may ahve taken 44 level's but we finally get a DOT and that made my day using that on a poor little chicken. Keep at it, mages rock:)
These guys are relatively easy, as a lvl 51 Reaver I can solo 1 without Fear Kiting it. I have finally found a Blue MOB that I can stand Toe to Toe with and win. I don't even use a pet for them, I usually need to use Life Leach once to heal me the 1 bubble of life they take away. Shadow Knights DO NOT TRY TO FEAR KITE THESE GUYS!!! I tried my first attempt and ended up feigned and half dead, the Island is too small and you will end up with 4-5 adds if you fear them.
These guys are the easiest XP I have found at lvl 51 but they drop almost nothing for loot.
Well I was on my way to FP, and I was standing up and looking around, then in front of the boat there was this HUGE thing, I had no freakin clue what it was, I targeted it, and conned it, I was so freaking scared, and I went inside the boat, the thing was in the ocean, and the boat went right past, I was lucky enough that I had hid in the boat, or it would have probley aggroed, just saying that if one of them are in the water, and the boat is heading in thee direction, TAKE COVER
I doubt taking cover inside the boat would help you. Verant is very good when it comes to non-sense. Actually, mobs can see and attack thru walls. So if you even notice the boat is goin straight for a Seafury Cyclos, you better jump off and wait for next boat or he will smoke you.
Try sitting in a house in EC, the Griff killed me a few times in there...
#Anonymous,
Posted:Jul 22 2001 at 3:33 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Sure you can solo with a necro but my 51 druid killed 4 of these guys at once.
I am an uber level caster type and have been able to solo everything with fearkiting/root-nuke/chain-mez/quadkite/singlekite since level one. I will now tell you all about how I do the same thing that every other caster in the game already knows how to do (and has probably written about on every friggen mob) to use as much space as possible sounding like a broken record!
Please people give me something that the small percentage of us lowly tanks (you know the ones that keep those mobs from beating that uber @#$ into the dirt in 3 hits!) can use:
hp? ac? speed? damage? aggro: group/singles/range? overconned/underconned? lvl of meelee that killed it before?
I started soloing SF at level 49 and was surprised by how much these big guys actually hit for. They can't even break 80 which is extremely advantageous for anyone 49+ and with a pet. My pet (necromancer) + Ignite blood, 2 VoS, Dooming Darkness, and a Fear can put down a seafury in about a minute to 1.5 minutes. Even if your fear is resisted don't worry, your pet can sustain long enough to fend for itself while you fizzle or keep getting resisted. This is WAY better and EASIER xp then in DL. Plus the fact that these drop as much PP (4-6) a kill and have the chance to drop gems (Emerald Ring, Sapphire, Mythril Amulet, Fire Emerald, Fire Opal) that sell for 50+ pp, makes this place one of the best soloing places in Norrath.
How hard they hit depends on your AC. The level 42 ones have and can hit for upto 106. Naturally plate classes (and presumably some pets) have an advantage here but yes. They dont hit consistantly as hard as DL mobs, which will average 85's for a full fight.
This is one of the few mobs that shamen have an advantage against. As a level 44 shaman i can solo these things without too much trouble. I buff my pet, and torgor the giant. From there i let my pet tank the rooted giant, while i dot, meditate, and heal when needed. As the dog gets weaker i jump in and tank for a minute or two, by then the seafury is running, and i have just one upped necros and mages everywhere :)
I've been soloing these bad boys since lvl 44. They have around 3.5k hp. It takes me 2 600dmg DoTs and 2 585dmg DD's with the pet whacking it the whole time. I normally don't ever get hit while fighting these using the following tactic:
1. Buff water pet with BOII, Expedience, & DS 2. Pull Seafury with Malisement 3. Send Pet in 4. Cast Elemental Malestrom (DoT)600dmg 5. Heal Pet 6. Heal Pet 7. Cast Shock of Swords 585dmg 8. Cast Elemental Malestrom (Dot) 600dmg 9. Cast Shock of Swords 10. Heal Pet if necessary, Seafury will flee at this point 11. Med up for next pull
100% success rate using this tactic and rarely get hit. SoW potions & levitate are nice to have while soloing them...but not required if you are smart on how you fight them. These bad boys are gonna get me through hell at lvl 45 for sure.
I soloed these at 44 also as a necro and although they are not too hard to kill, they are not even close to being worth the exp you get off BG goblins in Lake of ill omen. I suggest waiting till 49 and Bond of Death and lich which makes for almost nonstop killing. rather than sitting down forever medding after each kill. I have so much health most of the time that I let the cyclopses get in five or six hits a round to bring my defensive skill up.
Shaidy Soulstalker 50th Iksar Deathbringer on Povar
OK, this is on tallon zek.. there was a couple of people camping these guys. they got overrun and only one was left. he started swimming(his was faster than the cyclops) and low and behold here comes the boat! this is at the highpoint of the day, and there was about 10 people on it, most of them medding or sitting. so the next thing you know this cyclops is hitting someone on the boat, then the next..it whiped out the ENTIRE boat! but, lucky for them, a GM retrieved thier corpses for them.
A level 50 wizzie can easily solo here without J-boots. And while you solo the seafury you can check AC camp to see when it opens. That is how I got my boots. The seafury drop nice gems: fire opal, saphire, fire emerald, and rubies. They also drop some jewelry that usually sells for 60pp. For jewelry makers this is a nice bonus. Drop rate seems to be one gem or the like per 10 kills. Experience from cyclops at level 51 is slow. Something akin to 35 clops per yellow bub. Nonetheless you are almost always safe on the beach if you are at the very edge so can busy yourself with other things while medding. So all in all it is a nice place to get some okay cash and livable exp. for level 50 plus casters.
What a coincidence. I was on a boat to BBM, and a bunch of these guys jumped on me at Erollisi Island. Took me a couple hours to get my corpse back after the boat zoned and dumped it in the ocean. Blasted cyclopses.
These things are bastards . . . I stepped off of the boat at the Island of Erollisi just in time to see one of these hop on board and wipe everyone out. I walked away unharmed.
I am a 47th level mage, and had been grouped with a 45 mage friend of mine..between us we could been these things downs with only about 2 bubs of mana lost each, and our pets each never went below 60% (this was using two airs btw). However, when my friend wasn't on, I found you can do these things solo, though it is close every time almost. Simply summon up your highest level pet (I always used the isle goblin island to test pets), park it at shore (with Burnout 2 and DS of course), then use bolt or malisement to pull a seafury to your pet. Send pet in, then chain nuke with shock of swords. After two (sometimes 3) shocks they will aggro on you...run around them for a few seconds absorbing the hits, then after that they will re-aggro on pets, wait a few seconds, and then procede to chain nuke them again. This tactic will almost always work, only had to gate when I accidently pulled two, but it will leave pet at anywhere from 5% to 45%, and you oom or 20% mana max left. In terms of hp lost, the max I ever lost from chainnuking was 2 bubs, which is moot when you have phantom plate up. My best advice is if your pet gets to 20 or less resummon using chain pet casting...or gate, as running is always much preferable over dying. Hope this helps all of you mages out there, gl!
The way I fear kite here is I park my pet on the AC island, as long as he is being camped you dont have to worry about his placeholders. I have DMF cast on myself. I dark the cylops. Then I pull him to the AC island and fear kite the hell out of him but being 48 I run oom soloing so I am going to wait untill I am 49 to start soloing.
Please dont pull the clopses to AC island without talking to the person who is camping the AC first.
When I hunt the AC, I fear kite the PH's. Nothing sux more than having an add because someone else pulled a clops over without telling you, and now 2 of them are pounding on ya...
Also, AC island is NOT a fun place to park a Tainted or Quag for the same place.
Man yer going about the wrong way then... You've got the tactics down perfect. You know that litle peninsula or finger that sticks off of AC there? Park your pet there and have him guard that. Then what ya do is buff up with shield, spirit armor on you and your pet, DMF and then cast CoB and med. While your medding to full, Augment the pet and head on over in skel form and pull one. Use the Shadow AC stippping spell, it casts fast and allows your pet to get in Homer Simpsons @ss.
As you run back to where your pet is stationed, run past him and send him down towards the Homer. This will give you a chance to cast dark and fear on it and then Vamp Curse and VOS. Run up the hill a bit and sit to med. Fear will break and you'll need to recast it and Vamp again, maybe a tap ro regain your hit point from CoB. Your last cast should be a tap or Vamp anyway. That way you can med off the HP's regained and get ready to roll.
I rarely run out of mana this way and my pet takes very little damage unless I get a resist or seven. Sometimes they are resistant like a mo mo, so be careful and always have FD memed.
I just barely met these ugly scums and already I hate em... Im 20 gnome mage... I was taking a boat to BB and all of a sudden out of nowhere one of these B#st#rds was just standing up at the bow of the ship... I thought it was a pet or something because i have seen one strangely before under someone's control.. NE ways, He killed a 17 warrior, and then came after me...he got a shot or two on me but fortunetely i escaped into the deep blue sea... lucky for me I could gate myself otherwise i was screwed... so i gate back to my original location (Oasis of Marr), and went back to freeport and took the boat again..... Once again another Cyclops attack me except from behind (first was a Seafury, second original) and once again I escaped.... I went back on boat again and this time I hid inside the ship...It seemed to help me = ) ... I dont know if it has to do with faction... but seeing some of these messages they just KoS.. Thank you for reading my long story = P
Ive noticed while killing these things that the island where they pop is rather crowded. This question is mostly geared towards necros, ive got jboots and DMF(ofcourse) is there another nearby island that i can pull these to? thx
YeaI use to let pet Guard at the Ac island shore and walk to the seafurie island select one ad use a lvl one spell like dissease cloud so the agro is low and just run all the way back to pet, send pet, darknes, fear and start doting.
havent read original post though, but best team there is a necro / cleric, or warrior / cleric
pull to pet ( warrior ) and let them melee it down, while u only heal pet ( warrior )
if u want to solo there, u better be a necro.
park pet, with DW and buffs, pull to pet, using shadow vortex, heal pet using ur own life, and use bond of death to remain at full life. that is lvl 49+
at lvl 44+, dunt solo... tried, can be done, but i always ends up with below 2 bubs life, and OOM!!!
in all cases, throw in darkness, only, when the SFC starts to run.
HHMMM, "if you want to solo there, you better be a Necro" sounds like somebody needs to get off thier High horse. Several People and classes have said they soloed these things, Shaman, Mages, and yes, Necros. But that doesn't mean that only Necros can solo without probs, I'm soloing many things with my 35th lvl Shaman that my Necro friend (same lvl) can't; and he does the same with me, some things are easier with a certain class. This doesn't seem to be one of them as it's a basic melee critter, which both me and my friend can take with ease (usually up to yellows).
To whoever said if you solo these you better be a Necro I am afraid you are wrong. A Mages 49 Fire pet can pretty well solo these things. Sorry to burst your bubble but a Necro isn't the only class in Norrath able to solo well.
As a 50 necro, i used fear kite on the island. I started with lich up, pull with Bond of death, send in pet, dooming dark (cas takes too long), fear (have root memmed). I would then either dot or join in mele with a staff of writhing - i only hit for 1 or 2 pts, but a 48dd proc (even on misses) helps a lot.
I found i could do this almost with very little down time.
"no way... u lie... if u fear at SFC, u die." Fear kiting worked very well with a druid+enchanter team. I did have to root if the seafury got too close to the others though.
"if u want to solo there, u better be a necro." Soloed there as a druid. It worked rather well too, using root+dot (not kiting). I first did this at 47, could have been done earlier.
"do NOT pull tainted, corrupted or maelstrom!!!" Maelstrom wasn't that bad. Once I put up resist magic I don't think his mana drain worked (may have been a coincidence)...after that we killed him the same way we killed all the other seafuries.
I've been thinking about heading to the ice giants in perma in a few levels when they become a possibility, would you recommend those or these seafury cyclopses (cycli?)
I'm thinking IG because of the handy zone into perma if something goes bad (and also maybe because it's my favourite zone so far), but I'm open to suggestions :)
being a 51 cleric me and my 51 mage friend can do constant pulling for 4 hours he pulls his pet kills 2-3 of them i med and then complete heal his pet after about every 3 battles mad 1 bub xp in 4 hours at 51 and 900pp to boot
Hehe as I once sat on the ship to go to BB and the ship passed the Cyclops Island I saw one of the cyclops walkinf along the beach. Suddenly he jumpend into the water and began to run behind the boat until he suddenly disappeared. What a shock =)
Necros can solo these pretty easily at 44+ with reverse kiting but it's slow. When you get the 49 spells these things become a heck of a lot easier and are really good exp (I get about a bubble every 90mins to 2hrs). Give the 53/55 damage pet daggers, keep it augmented, and let it tank. Use pact of shadow to keep pet healed and bond of death to fuel the pact. Keep lich on constantly for mana to cast bond. bond = 350mana for 800 hp... that's 2 pacts (300hp each) and a bit left over for lich :)
Just meditate while the pet slices him to death and keep recasting bond as soon as it wears off (you want the hp from it the damage doesnt matter, doesnt matter if the SF is almost dead, cast it anyway). When you get a good rhythm going you can go for hours without any downtime between fights. Usually I go out to pull another one before the first is dead.. constant pulls = excellent exp.
Steedozeer is right, It takes me 4 full Ice Commets, and a medium(about 350) nuke to drop one. I would say they rand about 4.6 hp....3k is impossible or i could toast one with two ic and a draught justabout.....and would onhly take about 45m to kill one.....
They have at LEAST 1120 * 4 = 4480 hps. How do I know that? 1120 is the damage of 1 Ice Comet. I have NEVER taken 1 down with 4 full Ice Comet Blasts. Always requires a bit more.
5K is way too high and yet 3K is too low....these bubbas have about 3.5K - 3.7K hp....slower to kill so xp is a tad slower but is good for those 46+ since most other things are green
