After they summon they will not pursue you anymore no matter how far you are from them. At this point they are able to hit you anywhere you move. I was standing right in front of the thing and got the "cannot see target" message no matter where I went. Tried it again to verify bug. Caution if you plan on kiting these guys seem to be buggy.
