I love the messages from a level 16 necro and the group of 6 level 11-17's saying they killed a SG. Good luck!

I suspect it would take a group of mid-20's with good groupwork to kill a SG, but a level 16 necro. Splat.

Oh, and they drop up to 50pp or so (and lots of cp and sp :P)

Ahh..Sand Giants..the Bane of Oasis. At Lvl 34 I was able to summon an SG as a pet, and it was kinda fun for a while, until I remembered all the times an SG came up on me and Splat!! These days, since Velious, any Mage 34+ has Monster Summoning 1. Which means they can summon an SG for a pet. I saw a Spec pet in Oasis today. Not sure if it was Mage or Charm. Probably was Mage since it was named Lobn. That was Monster Summoning 2 or 3. Anyways, before you shout SG! Click on it first.

I don't believe a word of what you are saying. because in order to have a level 15 anything kill a giant of any type is to have maybe 3 clerics at lvl 60 bud I seriously doubt you ever did that or witnessed it if everyone was below the lvl of 17.

I also would like to kno wif sg's are a great creature to solo as a 34 shaman. I can get a pet obviously but I wanna solo giants so bad. my name in blail on the vaeselle server if ya wanna tell me anytime to tell me stuff.

Oh and that group that was 11-17 that killed the giant is crap. there is no way anyone can kill something that hit's you for 120 + per hit. especially at that level.

I have tried soloing a SG, but i must have been unlucky cause i am lvl 37 Paladin and i couldnt kill it. I got it down 40% i had to use LOH. When my hp went to 50% i had to run. I have tried it twice, so i guess i will wait a few more lvls to get money that way!

There is no way a group of people under lvl 17 could have killed one of these guys

These are pretty hard but can be killed at lv 29 with a partner. Me (29 druid) and a semi-twinked pally (also lv 29) killed one of these in about 10min. have the pally root then cast snare. after that just dot and nuke. then send in your tank and keep him healed.

I dunno... but my monk can wipe the floor with these at level 44 with relativly low hp loss. However, last time I tried a Hill Giant, it totally kicked my ***. This is just an inference of mine (since its been a while since I fought a hill giant), but does anyone else think Hill Giants are considerably harder than Sand Giants?

All the classes kick ***! That's why I need to play two servers to support all my characters.

Guess what? that guy in the picture actually could be a wood elf druid! Dont any of you all know that druids can wear mithril armor? So for all of you out there that were thinking that that guy in the pic was a ranger, think again! I could've beeen a rogue, a bard, a rangewr, or a druid! Personally i think it is a druid, but I am not sure. You could tewlll because no ranger(except the idiotic ones) or any rogues(except the dunderheaded ones), or any bards(except the empty-brained ones) would use a scimitar. Only a druid Would have a real reason to use a scimitar(looks to me like fs) The armor could seriously be mithril, although mithril armor is rare, although I have seen ranger armor that looks like that, for example ivy etched mixed with some Faydark armor. Druids, by the way, are the masters of the galaxy! Nobody can beat them! And one more thing! Wood elves are the kings of all druids! I agree with many that wood elves make much better druids! Halflings are for lazy bums that want to spend less time leveling.

LOL You people are funny.

The guy in the picture IS indeed a Ranger. How do I know? Because it's me. This picture was taken right after "The Wipe of 2000" on Test Server and yes it IS a FS Scimitar. That would be the helm from Mistmoore, I think, Dwarven Work Boots, and the rest Ivy. I was approximately level 35 in that picture. Illia, if I remember right, was wearing this nice green robe (from Sol B) and was wielding a doll when this picture was taken. S/he also slowed the Giant and sped me so I could win :-P

Considering the last name is "Reynjer" I would be willing to bet dollars to doughnuts that he is a ranger. There are some nice magic scimitars in the game and most players post level 20 will no longer be using a cheap FS weapon. Common, you argue that he has the money to get mithril and is still using fine steel sword? It just does not add up.

To steal from a Hill Giant or Sand Giant it should be at the most a yellow con. Don't try to steal from a red con. Use a root/slow poison and keep coming back to the HG/SG to steal from it. Just make sure you always have a root/slow poison on your dagger and Sow on yourself. When you think that you have stolen enough plat and fine steal from the the HG/SG evade the mob or zone. If your do this correctly you'll have fun and get rich at the same time!

This guy probobly means *Shadow Knight* - I've called my SK a Death Knight, Dark Knight and even Anti-Paladin inadvertantly on several occassions.

His big secret is that there's a SG in Oasis who's relatively wimpy (around 20 I beleive) so based off of how hard my troll SK hits and his regular ability to take out things much higher level than himself, it's conceivable that he's either playing a troll or ogre SK and is good at kiting.

He's probobly peppering the SG with arrows while his pet attacks, then just casting a new pet when the old one goes - toss in a clarity or a breeze and also hit the SG non-stop with lifeleach while peppering him and it's reasonable that it might be doable.

There is a named SG in Oasis that is level 20. It drops a helm of some sort. That would be possible because of its low level and its a wimp. Now had it been a real SG, he would have been dead. He reversed kitied it too I'd say. Not too hard for a wimpy mob like this named SG.

Kiting SG's, for druids....
# Mar 13 2001 at 11:00 AM Rating: Excellent
Alright, don't listen to what anyone says about the SG's - they aren't that terribly difficult, so long as you know what you're doing. First - DO NOT TRY TO NUKE THEM TO DEATH. As a caster, though better at meleeing that intelligence casters, you CAN NOT run out of mana. If you do, one of three things will happen. 1) They will eventually break the 5,000 year-long ensnare, run you down, and kill you, because the damn things stun every two to three hits; 2) You will end up having another SG, spectre, or Cazel(yeah, that would be great) aggro to you, because you had to kite the damn thing around so much; 3) you'll have to zone out, and make a total waste of the situation. The best place to hunt SG's, in my experience, is Oasis. There is a little less competition there than Souther Ro, because you don't have people trying to KS you to pass the time on the AC spawn. Being, though, that there are always a few higher level PC's camping specs, or waiting on a raft, you can always ask for a little help, if you just need that one extra nuke to save you from kiting for an extra five to ten minutes, struggling to get that little bit of mana up, and most people don't mind helping, because everyone loves dropping at least one nuke on the big boys. =) The best bet is to start with an Ensnare, obviously, due to the raw speed at which these big fellas run. Try to be as far away as your casting will allow for this, as they may resist as many as five or six times, in the worst case. Eventually, however, they will take the Ensnare. Most times, I get it on the first or second try(Between level 34 and 35). After that, drop a Drones of Doom on them, and Root. At this point, just sit down to meditate. There is a large advantage at 35, as you can see how close they are at all times. If you're still 34, just get up and move back, once they break root, and either meditate, or try to root again. Reapply DoD as needed, and don't get frustrated if they resist the root a couple of times. If they give you trouble, go ahead and nuke a couple of times, to calm them down a bit. This helps the root take, when their life is a little lower. All the while, med whenever you can, especially when rooted. The best places to kite are along orc highway(in wolf form, you con dubious, so they don't aggro - plus no undead, really, which aggro even when you're standing), down the beach(warn the newbies to clear out a path, though I'm certain that they will need no urging), and just kite him around until he stops moving, with the snare. Sounds a lot more complicated than it actually is, and doesn't take all that long, unless they resist too much. Occasionally, you WILL have a DoD resisted. Just try to make up for it in meditation time. You can get a fairly big lead on these guys, and not have them turn and head away. Just remember to make sure they stay Ensnared(reapply if you've been kiting for too long, BEFORE the first one breaks), keep the Drones of Doom on them at all times, and nuke to lower resistance to roots, and toss in a little extra damage. Just remember to be patient. I ended up making about 1k in a day of kiting these guys, so it's well worth the time and effort. I also managed to cruise through 34 in a day or so. Use any downtime, when there are none spawning, to take down the far easier spectres. There are, inevitably, going to be singles roaming around, or adds on other groups' pulls that you can easily pick off, and which is always much appreciated. For actual spectre groups - get a 40+ necromancer partner. We pulled one, and got five, and, with much care(me at 34, mind you) managed to drop all five before we were done. It took her pet dying, running out of mana after every spell, for a while, snares on all of them(just wish that I could have had them close together, so that I could have used my Lightning Strike AoE DD spell), and a great deal of patience. The spectres are quite nasty in a large group, so pull as carefully as possible. Always assume that you'll get all of them, rather than just one or two. Their normal loot is crap, but if you get one of the regular scythes, they will sell to vendors for 10+pp. They are not long-distance spell casters, and only lifetap and fear up close, so kiting keep you pretty well safe from them. This is how I shot through 34, and I'm guessing that just about any druid could do the same, with any level of skill. Be reminded that you should have no less than 170 Wisdom to attempt this. That should have you losing 2 bubs of mana(if you maxed out the wisdom in creation of your halfling or wood elf druid, though everyone knows that halflings suck, and are only there for the people who don't want to take the extra time to level a wood elf) every time that you go from naked to fully equipped. You need to have yourself at least that high to safely kite this big guys - they aren't a joke, even if I try to make it sound easy. They have a ton of life, hence the Root-Dotting. You need to keep them rooted if you want to make full use of your new 65-points-per-tick swarm. 650 damage in a minute is a nice thing, and three of these with full roots will basically bring them to their knees, and you can finish with a few nukes, or melee, if you haven't been spending as much time meditating as you have running around. I hope this helps some of you up-and-coming druids out. One more thing - watch for the AC, in Southern Ro. He conned blue to me at 34, and will be even easier now, at 35. I plan to nab a pair of J-Boots and sell them. They do me no good, as far as I'm concerned. I'd rather spend the mana for the noticeably faster SoW or Greater Wolf Form. Or I could always keep them for indoor use, provided they can be used indoors. Trying to snag Rowyl's Boots of Nature from Thurgadin, so that I don't ever have to worry about SoW again(Rowyl's Boots effect is PERMA-SoW.... Check them out in the equipment search....) Good travels to all, and good hunting.......

Your tactics seem ok, except for the last bit you mentioned about J-Boots, if you work out how to sell off your NO DROP J-Boots, please let us all know.. and if you meant the ring, well you should have said that..(anyway, that's enough of me being picky)

As for having a pair of J-Boots, just think of it, it frees up a spell space & you won't have everyone asking for a sow every 5 mins..

I just breifly passed over this "Kiting for Dummies, lvl 35+ edition" as I will refer to this write up. Don't get me wrong its great and I know some people will need this, but I thought as a kite-a-holic and druid on Tox, I would like to just add my 2 cp and mention that DoD is great, but I have got fantastic results with the most unsung of druid DoTs, Immolate. By itself its not great, admittied, but people forget it stacks with DoD, and at lvl 36 I can say that it is reletively easy to land, especially comparred to when I first got it. I've used Immolate to DoT since the first day I could, its been good to me in that time. Add it to DoD and that SG hits the dunes face first alot faster then without it.

So what is the rule for con. How many levels above and below. Seems to be very inconsistent.
Con messages
# Feb 03 2001 at 5:25 PM Rating: Excellent

You're right--amazingly inconsistent. The same con messages hold for the following level groups:
1-6; 7-12; 13-14; 15-24; 25-34; 35-40; 41-44; 45-48; 49-50, and I think a new adjustment each level afterward.

Essentially, what happens is from 13 on up, the range for "blue" gets bigger. From 1-12, it starts out as 1-3 levels below you. 13-24, it's 1-5 levels below. 25-34, it's up to 7. 35-40, up to 9. 41-44, up to 11, 45-48, up to 12, and 49-50, up to 13.

So, at your level (49) you're getting the following con messages:

If the mob is level 1-35: [Green] you could probably win this fight.
If the mob is level 36-48: [Blue] appears to be quite formidable.
If the mob is level 49: [White/Black] looks like quite a gamble.
If the mob is level 50-51: [Yellow] looks like it would wipe the floor with you!
If the mob is level 52+: [Red] what would you like your tombstone to say?

The inconsistency only goes on the "low" end. Throughout your entire EQ experience, mobs 1-2 levels higher than you will always con yellow, while mobs 3+ levels higher than you will always con red, though the yellow messages change as you get higher.

Good luck.

Well I was soloing these guys, currently at lvl 39 but being a Necro and all i guess it was a bit easier. I usually pull with Dooming Darkness which last quite a bit longer than Engulfing Darkness then I send augmented pet skelli once pet attaches I fear untill it sticks. After all this I cast Scourge and VoS and Spirit tap as necessary. Not bad for Necro to solo if you do it right. Although it was my first time there may be a more mana effecient way to do this. sorry for some of the spelling. 8) Anyways he drops around 30pp at times and sometimes has a weapon which usually sell for 10-15pp as well.
