the purpose of those eyes are..
# Jan 04 2006 at 3:51 AM Rating: Decent
Being a ranger is not usually everyone's best choice - but the note for the third trial quest includes this pristine scarab eye you'll need tow of them to complete the quest but for some reason the mission I recieved tells me to go south for the scarabs - ALL of them are north of the location the quest is called :"Against the Sands" and the 2nd task is to loot two eyes, although I've DONE it and retrived the eyes and returned them to BECOREEN PATHFINDER (SOUTH OF WIZARD SPIRE) I still cannot progress...
Hittin tech support I guess.

I too had a problem finding the scarabs south of the npc as she said they would be, after 30 mins I only found two. You can go over the first dune or two and there are lots more, task dinged off, and stage was completed handing these in to npc. Hope this helps.

If you looted the eyes from Sand Scarabs outside of S Ro, then you didn't fulfill the conditions of the task. Maybe that's why you can't progress?

There are scarabs S of the NPC. Just not very many...

The pristine scarab eye is used in a task assigned by one of the NPC's that Varian (sp.?) on the PoK tells you to meet. The task is called "Against the sands" you must harvest 2 of them and turn them in to Becoreen Pathfinder near the wizard spires after having turned in the elven flute which the player receives upon acceptinig the task.

I believe the regular Giant Scarab Eyes are used in Necro spell practice rune research for the practice rune Study Azia. As well as a couple of different quest's.

Looted a "pristine scarab eye" and "Giant Scarab Brain" The brain is stackable, the eye might be, but I cannot remember.

Yes, I am remembering correctly about the eye - it contains the word pristine. Very Odd I think - anyone seen any new bug quests recently? maybe the misty thicket quest has changed some, or some of the Dorf armor quests?

anyone know what a pristine scarab eye would be for? I smoked a scarab near the docks and it dropped, never seen one before.

These things are no drop but no one has come up with a purpose yet. I asked around for a couple hours but never got a response.

I wish they wouldn't make things no drop until there is a reason. I've been wasting a slot in my backpack it appears.

Neat though gotta admit
Experimenting

Im a dark elf wizzy thats just dinged 9, and Im gonna try hunting these puppies for the next three levels or so. I don't have much doubt whether it will work out or not, cuz wizzy's are some of the best soloers out there. I'll just root and nuke the crap out of it.

Ok I'm replying to my previous comment. I went to Ro with my 9 wizzy and explored the various dunes. Soon I saw a sandscarab. One of the best things about these puppies is they are NOT rare at all.

So I tried rooting the bug and to my horror it resisted. I wasn't far enough away and it ran up and attacked me. It hit for about 20, and missed rarely. I meleed with my water crystal shaft, but since I suck at 1h blunt, I barely hurt it.

I tried my best nuke when my health reached 3/4. Unfortunately I could NOT nuke it without getting interrupted. So I tried a weaker, faster nuke and got it's health down to just one third. Sadly for me, my health was less than 1 red bubble and I was screwed.

Not giving up, I tried one more thing: to root it and run to the closest safe spot. I clicked on root, and amazingly it worked without getting interrupted. The scarab was stuck to the sand like it was flypaper, and I started solwly walking towards the inn.

Suddenly, I realised how stupid I was being running away with a perfectly vulnerable bug just sitting there. So, I turned and nuked the crap out of it right when it came out of the root spell.

It died at my feet in a puddle of it's own bug blood. My health sucked badly but I got half a yellow bubble of exp, so was it worth it?

Sadly I soon found out. As I looted the bug, a mummy ran up and hit me once, killing me and my pride instantly. So in conclusion, the beetles provide great experience to those that can kill them, but then you have to hope nothing attacks you while you regenerate.

Thats too much trouble for me, so I packed my bags and took off to another new zone for me: Befallen, where I plan on experimenting some more.

A bog standard human pally at level 9 with a bit of leather armour and a two handed sword can kill one of these sand scarabs when they are yellow. Just make sure you have Lay Hands armed and ready just in case.

Scarabs are NOT spiders. They DON'T spin webs and the DON'T have silk.

Ive spent the last two levels (13-15) fighting these scarabs. they are seldom camped cause of the random spawing, and i get about 1/2 a buble of blue exp, and the loot sell from a norm of 1.5 gold to 8 gold, and multiple drops per corpse. ive made two levels and about twenty plat in five hours.

I agree wholeheartedly with the creature description above. Sand Scarabs will level you through the 10-12 levels in an hour or two.

I've been hunting in Oasis since well 12 and I am now 13 but I have spotted several Sand Scarabs who were lvl 12 so but hit as much as a lvl 11 (not much) but still hit a bit harder.

Great XP! A lvl6 Pal and myself (7th War) spent last night fighting these and D.Trarantulas. Made Most of a lvl in 2 hours and didn't have to zone once. Keep an eye on you 6 for Mummies and madmen though.
Ezy to solo
# Aug 03 2000 at 1:11 PM Rating: Decent
i have a lvl 10 Necromancer and found out that these sand scarabs are the fastest highway to lvl 11. you can easily solo these creatures, regardless of their levels, from level 9. but i won't suggest you start to solo in level 8. for necromancers, the best way to kill these scarabs is to put darkness on them, run to the beach (where the barbarian fishing village is) and solo them there, with your pet. why do you do this, you may ask. well, the reason is pretty clear, you wouldn't want a shriveled mummy or a madman bashing you or your pet while you're bashing the scarabs would you?
Grouped By Level 5-7
# Jul 30 2000 at 6:31 PM Rating: Decent
In fact they are not only good for xp but grat for hunting by low level group. My group start hunting them with a 5 level Pal, 6th level ENC and CLERC. The Pal do the tank the priest heal the ENC cast and the bug die. HUGE EXP. NOW we all are 6 and nearing 7 and they are still good exp and easy kill. The trick is to let them change target often. Try it they are fearsome but in no way unbattable.
Scarabs
# Jul 28 2000 at 1:22 AM Rating: Decent
First off, the Sand Scarabs are different than the Giant Scarabs in ButcherBlock. They seem to be similar but the Sand versions are slightly higher in level on average. I don't know of any quest in Ak'Anon having to do with Scarabs, but there is a dwarf in Kaladim who will make armor for you if you give him a pristine scarab carapace and pay about 25 gold.
Hit point scarab damage
# Jun 18 2000 at 5:42 PM Rating: Decent
They usually hit for around 9-22 points of damage with leather armor on my barbarian warrior, it would be best to have a 2handed sword and banded armor to
be on the safe side..!
Solo at 8?
# Jun 16 2000 at 4:34 PM Rating: Decent
Do you think I could take these things on by myself at 8? How hard do they hit? I'm sick of being at level 8, and I'm looking for a way to get out, fast...

I have soloed these at level 8 with a TSK without losing more then a bubble and a half of life....THey give great EXP!

# Jun 01 2000 at 6:49 PM Rating: Decent
I begann hunting these grouped in NRO and Oasis at level 9 and they were pretty tough. I am just now able to solo them at level 12 and they give excellent experience and occasionally force me to zone. I'd suggest the levels may be a little low.
Excellent EXP
# May 31 2000 at 4:57 PM Rating: Decent
These guys are excellent EXP solo at 11 if you're a druid. First, snare them, then start kiting them with ignite. When you have approx 3/4 bub of mana left, cast shield of thistles on yourself, and melee it to death :)

They are also in Butcher Block Mountains. Akanon is also in that zone, maybee there for the armor quest?
