All Karana worshippers at least warmly (troll, ogre, dwarf, erudite, halfling, gnome, Darkelf all have about 100 penalty). So Halfling Paladin of Karana warmly, while human paladin of karana ally.

Puntar's con will never change - that I know of - he will always con whatever he did to begin with because the faction hit is Karana and I suppose he's not really on that faction. Just my opinion. He's always been apprehensive to my DE Necro and that hasn't gotten worse or better in the times I run by a slap him around with the pet. I also don't think it's a slow change because I have killed him a lot...I mean, I could make an occupation out of giving him his standard burial at sea.

I conned him on my Troll Shaman who worships Innoruuk. Wouldn't ya know it, he conned amiable as well. Now, from what I know -- or think I know anyway-- Karana is considered a neutral god. No? Maybe Karana or his residents are a little bit shadier than one originally thought.
I'm a little curious to see now the relationship between Karana and the other gods, what exactly developed, and what the underlying stories are.
Also, when I have killed him in the past, like another poster below, the faction hit was "Karana", not "Karana Residents." And, as stated previously, the faction hits seem to be very, very small, as it takes a lot to lower the faction.

Man i took this guy out from lvl 4-6 almost to lvl 7 with my dark elf mage its not a big deal with vaction so what if its the Karana Residents u will never need it anyway unless u go trough it. this guy droped 46silver 36copper wow this man give sorta good money anyway he is a big baby he needs his mommy anyway =+)

This dude is too weak. At lvl 2, I brought my doof Cleric to Freeport, before he was twinked massively, and attacked NOTHING else. I killed this weakling losing only 4 bubs of health until lvl 3, then it was 3 bubs, and so on. I am now a lvl 7 wnd Puntar Sandfisher gives NO exp to me, he is KOS to me, even though he cons light green, and he gives OK loot for my level. I usually get about 5pp or 40gp from him, and 1/2 of the time, he has a weapon (once i got a Centi Warhammer from him, must have been given to him by a high lvl). My faction wit the Guards of Freeport is NOT KOS, just apprehensive. Any n00bz out there, he hits for a max of 22dmg(from my experience and my guilds). The simplest tactic for casters is to run up behing him , con him, and cast a spell that would do something to root or stun (i.e. "root" or "stun")then beat the crap out of him. He will always run towards the sand hills so if you are slow, have a friend stand there. Meleer's need to do the natural....stand behind him, and wait for the right moment. Then whoop his @$$. If you do this, you will get OK exp and OK money, go buy stuff from the lady nearby. Before killing him, I browsed a merchant right about the sand/grass line. Nice compass, for what one is good for. After killing him and the merchant would no longer deal with me.
Before killing him, the merchant behind him was indifferent to me, after and she was dubious.
You may not loose any MORE faction, but I have yet to shop successfully at the merchant at the sand line again.

No worries. I made the same mistake when I was really low level. The merchants in North Ro stopped dealing with me along the zone area to EFP. But it didn't last real long and now I can deal with them again.

Although I may have missed it, I couldn't find mention of the spawn time for Puntar. I would appreciate it if someone could provide it. It would appear that the general concensus is that the only faction hit is with Karana the god, not the residents or merchants of the Karana zones. If anyone can shed additional light on this subject, that would be most welcome as well. Thanks for your time and be safe out there...

Spawn time 8 min. i am currently camping him with my lvl 8 necro and i get 1 1/2 blue bubble per kill. he drops way fast! and AWSOME exp. crap loot tho like 12cp.

After camping the good fisherman, I will respond to my own post. Puntar spawns every five minutes and forty-five seconds. The faction hit is to Karana -- singular -- which I am taking to be the diety. As a necromancer, I figure if I'm not already screwed with Karana, I'm doing something wrong. I began camping Puntar at seven and dinged eight easily and relatively quickly. The camp is a good one in that it allows one to work on fishing and other "down time" skills between spawns. Running into the desert to kill between spawns is also possible and an additional benefit. As a twinked necro, one could probably begin this camp at five relatively safely. Untwinked, I would wait until six to avoid deaths. I continued the camp at the beginning of level eight, working on my new evocation skill during the down time. Now that it is maxed, I will likely move on to greener pastures. There are better places to earn experience at eight. However, the coin Puntar drops is good for this level of camp. I received a low of about 1 GP to a high of about 1 PP. Hope this information is of use. Good luck and good hunting.

this guy is full of **** i took my weapon off of me and fought him.i hit for 10 at highest and he never touched me.after i killed him i lootes and got 15gp.hes alot less than what hes cracked up to be.

Level 11 Dark Elf wizard, killed him earlier today and got EXP for it. He gave a few each of gold, silver, and copper, and it was nice that the merchants did not come to his aid. Thanks to the advice here I think I will build up my beg skill on him too.

This guy is weak. I killed him with a lvl 3 SK. The most money he has ever given me was 14gp 9 silver 69 copper. Kill him till lvl 10.

I have killed Puntar 192 times. (Yes, I kept track) I have tried every new skill on him. I have begged him, backstabbed him, poisoned him, tried every new weapon on him. I cannot even run past that part of the world without having to stop and kill him. He still cons amiable.
I stand there and fish and while doing so i beg from this guy and occasionally I will pick his pocket. After awhile he turns around and stares at me and I do it again and he gets upset and so I have to kill him and wait for him to respawn. Great place to practice all 3 skills at once though:)

So from the sounds of things, you may or maynot hose off a god or an entire zone for repeatedly killing this guy, but he himself doesn't seem to mind being killed by you.
He seems to drop a couple of hundred copper peices and is relatively easy to kill.
Other than the occasional fish (what kind of fish - maybe the Stein of Magok one?) he doesn't have anything that could be considered a quest item and since he's relatively freindly, he doesn't really have any effect on the eco system.
So why is he there and what is/was his point?

oddly, the faction hit when you kill him is -Karana, _not_ -KaranaResidents. Anyone got any ideas about the significance of that?
I think you dont get hits with KaranaResidents but the god Karana himself, just like you loose faction with Rallos Zek when you kill Chief Goonda and the guys of his tribe.

Actually the hit is against Karanas, in the plural. So this may not be the God. I could mean in the zones themselves maybe.

As a DE necro I could kill this guy at level, but only if he was level 5, any high he would resist. But, I got from 4-8 just from hunting him so any evil newbies or people that just don't like Karana NPC's hunt him for his money and EXP. I neverr hunted him on my 47 necro but since i made a new one I glad I found him =)

I have been killing this poor guy since 5th lvl. At 7th I stoped making a pet. Very good loot/EXP for that lvl and seeing I am a Dark Elf Necro ... who gives a hoot about faction ; )

Alright. This dork is level 5-7. At 6, he ALWAYS conned blue. At 7, he ALWAYS cons black (?). He hits with unarmed as if he's holding an invisible Bronze Dagger (6,5,6,5,6,5,6,5 etc). Everyone hunts this weiner. I picked his pocket for 12 silver once. I suspect he had about 3 gold left after that. Once, I killed him and got 143copper.
