So my level 19 druid was walking up the path from the spires, when all of a sudden, out of the blue, with totally no warning: WHAM!
GrimFeather claws you for 56 points of damage. GrimFeather claws you for 86 points of damage.
Aw crap, RUN AWAY, RUN AWAY! But it was no use, my druid was quickly killed. GF must've spawned right on top of her, for I didn't see the creature before it started attacking. One day this evil bird shall PAY for its crimes against humanity!
this guy is nasty took me out my 54 ranger and kept up to me at sow speed not a fun pull best if you take group to him cause he just hits too damn hard 500s each time
So who is the Fabled Grimfeather, conned red to my 46 druid and hit my Ranger Buddy for 500. Ive spent alot of time in N.Karana and never seen him up before?
Lots of the old world named have "Fabled" copies that spawn as part of the EQ 5th Anniversary celebration.
The Fabled Grimfeather can double hit for 528 max, and has about 25k hps I'd say as a really rough guess. Other than that, nothing special. Conned blue to a 65. Always drops these Fabled Crafted Vambraces.

I think SOE should bring back the fabled as an ultra rare spawn, with the normal mob the PH, would keep things like campin the kings room in Sol and the FBSS in Guk much more interesting, when you know that every time you kill the king theres a chance that the next spawn will have you running like mad.
PS. SOE let me name my pet via the /petname <insert name here> to name your pet one tme and permanently :)
Safe hunts and rare drops!

He is much faster than SoW. You would have better luck porting out of there. He doesn't outrun SoC (Spirit of Cheetah) but he keeps up with you pretty well. Wolf form (the 2 lower versions anyway) have no affect on his faction. My Druid (kanara worshipper) has always been KoS to him.
I was farming in NK and saw him on track, so I tried Call of Karana on him after Glamour of Tunare and he was mine to kill things with. Yes, I buffed the snot out of him for fun and sent him to tear up Hill Giants and anything with a skin or pelt. Overkill? Yes. Fun. Absolutely.
This dude killed me last night as I was medding up. I am a human ranger. A few more levels... Then I am gonna kill this sucker! He hit me for 85 btw. Pretty strong.
ummm Grim was rather easy at 32. wolf form up, ensnare Grim, and keep out of melee range while you stack dots. then just terrorize animal and sit back and med.
i could be wrong but today i tried to snare him with no luck. cant change speed message. but i did however use a regular griffon as a meat sheild and that worked very well i got the kill as charm wore off and old pet was at 20 health ding 2 easy kills.
I was in SK a couple days ago. Grim just took down both guards. I hit him a couple of DOTs before he killed the last guard. He started to fly off, and sent the pet in and myseft. I started to loot him, and heard something fly to me. I just thought it was a griffawn or griffenne. Then I was hit with 400+ dmg. I saw the mean Silver griffon. My pet went in to attack him, I started to run, the griffon was fighting with my pet. Knowing he would kill him very fast I ran my butt off to EK to zone out.
At the same time I killed him, I heard the silver griffon, and was flying right to the body. Maybe he POP went you kill Grim
I'm a 44 warrior on Rodcet Nife, i soloed this guy, wasnt to tough, came out with 2bubs of hp left, i have 2026 hps unbuffed , using a frosty , ven axe w/ fbss and having lots of dex, they procced alot..And im a human btw. He's easy and doesnt have much hps, so he can be soloed by a 44 warrior if they have the right stuff
I've only fought Grimfeather twice. The first time I "fought" him, I was about level 20 and he came out of nowhere are slaughtered me. The second time I fought him, I was level 47. It's one thing to be a kiting class and take him down, but it's quite another to stand toe-to-toe with this griffon and attempt to melee him to death. In my opinion, he was about as tough as a hill giant to kill with melee only. He went down, but it wasn't a cakewalk.

Posted:Jul 16 2002 at 1:31 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) lol no..I was lvl 39 when i took him on. I did die but he was nowhere NEAR a HG. For one this thing has WAY less hp then an HG. He doesn't even hit as hard as a HG to. It me fer 50's-60's sometimes i would see a hit fer 86 or 89 ya know but nothing like that. Anyways i didn't have sow and i meleed him down to the r in his name but i died. So i am lvl 41 now and i think with my added 11% haste and about another 500hp lol form new upgrades i think i can easly melee this lil hoe
He's my *least* favorite winged thing in NK. Normally when I'm med'in in the tower I check track constantly and he pops up.. what sucks is when the HG is in it too.. along with 2 griffons..( I have track sorted by distance ) I watched a guy kill Grimmy like 3 or 4 times within an hour.(He was so nice and let me and my other Ranger Friend have the rune of Ivy, woot) and I was kinda suprised he spawned so stinkin' fast.
Him and the HG always head for the tower. (Most of the time both kill the guards too) I think it's some sick joke for lower levels. That or just to prove you aren't *always* safe around guards, lol.
So if a druid and a ranger go after this puppy, and hit him with harmony and then cancel magic, ya think it might make it easier for snare and root spells to stick? Just a thought.
I (36 Druid, Untwinked) was looking for Hill Giants in NK when I spotted GrimFeather on track. He coned yellow to me but I was FM and FH with no buffs except Greater Wolf Form. Snare then run screaming like a little girl if it was resisted was the route I decided to take.
The first problem I encountered was that you must follow him until you are close enough to cast Snare so that he is still in range when the spell finishes... and that is too close for comfort.
Lucky old me, the Snare took hold and slowed him down to a mere sprint, he would still outrun and unbuffed character and I took twice as long to get to a safe casting range.
After that it's just the usual DoT run med, DoT run med with the occasional speculative root thrown in for good measure. Root is a great spell if it is not resisted or it holds for more than 10 seconds but I never rely on it.
After a fem minutes he turns and then, sigh of relief, he dies. Not a lot of loot (Eye, feather and rune) and not a huge amount of XP, but HUGE buckets full revenge. Oh, and did that taste GOOD!
A 36 Druid can do him without getting hit with a bit of luck, but to quote the game, It is by no means certain that you will win.
I also have a 36 druid and took him down without a real problem....i am very twinked (243 wisdom unbuffed) but at the time i had KEI on so that made it a little easier. He resisted my first snare and i had greater wolf form on so i decided to run and try again...bad thing was he was faster than me...so i had to hope for luck for a snare to actually break through and stick. Wouldn't ya know lucky ol' me it stuck and from there it was a cake walk =p.
took me maybe 1 bub of mana only DoT and med..Dot and med (remember i had KEI on). dropped same loot as h always drops but im just letting you know he is solo'able at 36 with a druid..but he did con yellow at the time. suxxor exp compared to quad kiting. have fun!!

Have killed him 2 times now at 35 (ranger). First time was with a chanter friend with all my buffs plus haste. Second time was with just sow. But you don't get hit much when fear kiting ;)
Well, i fought with him 3 times to far. All time he dropped the ivy rune for ranger sleeve, once he dropped the eye. As a ranger, i snared/feared kite it. Even with snare on, it can keep up with you if you don't have sow. I fear it every other time when kick recycled and that kept it feared almost continuously. Quite easy for a 45 Ranger.
i a lvl 41 nec was running around NK after being evaced from keal. At full mana and have no pet. I see him and rember all the times i was on my way to paw and heard this guy had killed someone. So think to my self why not i go and make a pet and fear kite this guy with 2 bulbs of mana left and that is after making my pet. he resisted 2 of my spells.
My 35 cleric, who was only at 60 mana, and a 35 druid at full mana ran across grimfeather in NK. We decide to try and take him, and are doing well pingponging him between us, but I ran out of mana, and he was aggroed on the druid at the moment. We trained him to the bridge guards, but he finished off the druid before the guards finished him. Got a rez for the druid, and brought in reinforcements. With a second druid (lvl 30) and a 31 warrior, we took him on again. He must have popped really soon afte he died, because the druids had him on track by the time we got the rez, and the other two to the zone. Anyway, he dropped pretty easily with 4 of us. Resisted everything from the 30 druid, so she just healed the warrior. Dropped the ivy rune, and some junk, plus about 4 plat cash.
I was in Nk at gypsies and ran across Grim.looked like fun so i snared noticed i had to run a little further than normal to get my cast off, but it was no big deal. Snare, dot, nook nook nook, root, dot DEAD.
Ever notice there are lots of bodies arround that Tower in the center of the zone, most often it is due to the unintentional killing that Grimfeather causes. Not that Grimfeather kills all those people, most of them were just jumped by too many bears, wolves, lions etc... and when they ran to the tower for help, the guards were not there. They didn't abandon their posts, they were killed by Grimfeather, it often happens at least once every eq day or so. Grimfeather gets into a fight with the guards and leaves the unmanned tower at half health.
So to hunt this vile winged thing do what i do, hang arround the tower, watch for it to attack the guards, let him kill the guards and then attack. I had done this at level 38, and 41
Barnebus Goodfight Warrior and Commander of Clan McMarrin Brell Serilis Server
I did this intentionally at lvl 30, just a word to the wise, He's faster than sow, and about equal to spirit of cheetah, Darn near killed me before I made it to the tower.
Sucker hits like a giant, averaged between 38 and 92 damage a hit to my 38 Ranger. He's got HIGH resists so fear/kiting went out the window pretty quick. Ignited him and bow/kited him until he finally dropped. Used up 9 stacks of Class 3 Steel hooked arrows. He's not to be taken lightly folks.
Linolwen Spiritchaser <Keeper of Eternal Shadows> 39 Ranger of Tunare Fenin Ro
Not to be taken lightly. I saw it agro on a lv 43 SK & kill him leaving the feather at 1/2 hp which i Lv 37 pal finished it off but it took off 1200hp of my 1400hp.
As for the spawn it is random about 2min after that one was taken down a 2nd spawned & was killed at about the same spot but i have gone long times & never seen one.
This dude can open up a can on a untwinked 47 war. Got about 1/3 of his health befor I had to zone. Don't think I was full health when I started either.
I got one 2 of my high lvl friends on and both were like around 54 or so and they just totally destroyed him and with just my luck got it with one try!!!
Whenever I enter the zone I ask "Is Grimfeather up?" and most people will respond if they see him, or if they saw him killed recently. As a lower-level character he'll outrun you and kill you quickly, as he's done me at lvl 18, so he's something you definitely want to know about if he's flying around.
Basstone Trombone <Lords of Rememberance> Bard of the 28th Song
i was in nk hunting beetles and fawn when along comes mr grimfeather. was killing gaurds in tower next to gypsie came then came after me for no reason i ran but i forgot that gaurds are not friendly to de necros at bridge tower so i had no choice but to stand and get killed. i hate that guy
I just hit level 31, and decided to sell before logging. As a rogue I must hide and sneak in order to sell at gypsy camp. In the middle of the transaction, he discovered me beneath my invisibility. I ran for all i was worth, but didn't get half way to the zone.
was in karanas with my 20th Enchanter takin out Beetles and a few Griffawns. I saw him earlier wanderin the zone and knew not to fudge with him so I went along my merry way. Then found the guard tower and thought "Hmmm, good place to Bind" I was Wrong!!:( Saw him kill the 2 guards and then he Agroed on me form like a mile away it seems, hed hit me once but i figured after the guards were done hes forget me, He didnt, so he killed me. Twice once cause I spawned in Tower and he was right next to it, real fun, lost a full bub in Five mins woohoo. DO NOT count on those guards for ANYTHING they suck.
It seems to me that the griffawns are the placeholders for the pain. There I was hunting griffawns when up pops old Grimfeather. Some high level dude killed him, and I went back to hunting griffawns. About 15 minutes later, here he comes again. Same guy kills him again. About 20 minutes of killing griffawns, and he spawns for a third time. Pretty sure no one was killing griffons at the time.
My roommate killed him with a 32 SK today. He agroed him, and ran to guards at the tower. Guards died trying to kill him, but took him down to 25% HP. My SK friend popped up, and killed him. He was oom, and at 50% HP when it was all over. Who says a erudite SK is crap? :)
I would say try to use your head, but thats what gets trolls and ogres in trouble in the first place. :)
I ported to North Karana with my 26 druid, and when I got there I saw Grimmy beating up the whole druid ring. He had taken one druid down, and another was about to die. So for fun, I tried to snare it. Big mistake. He instantly aggroed on me, so I put on Spirit of Cheetah and tried to run for it. He still outran me though, and I was griffon food. I am still waiting for my revenge, but take my advice: if youre not high enough level to handle this guy, don't tangle with him.
While waiting for a guildmate to give me a TP to BB, some great warrior of Norrath, after slaying the named creature, shouted that the Rune of Ivy was up for loot. He shouted the loc. and off I ran. He has my eternal thanks for leaving the rune for a ranger that will one day be putting together the Ivy-etched armor.
He outran me, somewhat barely (He was only slightly faster, it took him a while to catch up) with 32 bard selo's with MM drums; none of our high (higher since Verant's BS patches) resist songs actually resisted..I got charm, chains, and our lvl30 chant (which resists a LOT) off on him with no trouble..but being so fast I didn't wanna use em as a pet vs. HG's because of the new charm crap that makes the pet hafta return to you before he'll take orders.
Last night a 30 Ranger, a 30 WIzzy, a 27 Warrior, and a 31 Druid kicked ole Grim-Daddy in the arse. Key was to cast a fear on him, otherwise, he will pretty much slay med-lvl tanks.
Ya he is fast. He ran down my 32 bard with 28% buff to drums instrument playing. Still stuck on me from start to finish.
Although the next day I was running across the zone and he attacked my mage but not to worry he didn't see my 57 earth pet following behind me. Hence got my vengence back.

#Anonymous,
Posted:May 23 2001 at 1:08 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Oh, you must be talking about the quad kiting "you stole my kill" type druids; as I said on another post. Not all druids are bad; but the ones you remember are the ones that are yelling at you for "stealing" thier kill when it attacked you, or training the critter they're kiting on you. Either way the "anti-Druid comments" are made by the average people playing the class, and the average are just like I said, quad-kiting winers.
He's real easy to kill if you are of level. If you need him dead then just find him and ask some high lvl players in the zone to kill him. Just takes one 50+ to drop him. Hard part would be finding him once that is done you can ask one or two people to spend 5 mins to kill him for you.
Not so sure about. Had a level 50 Ranger friend take Grim out and it took him down halfway before he was able to kill it. Grim at lvl 37 is still tough for a level 50 meleer. I've also seen a level 40 wizard take him down with ease. Looks likes a caster friendly kill.
Well, now that Rangers have panic animal, this griff isn't that bad. My 42nd level ranger took him out day before yesterday. Was at full before fight, thinkingit would be close, and I might have to snare/root/run. Instead, at the end of the battle I had 4bubs of health, and 4bubs of mana. I wasted him. If you just keep him feared, hit him 5 or 6 times, then cast the low mana use spell panic animal, should be no problem. Oh, he only resisted panic like twice.
Just meet him. I was a lvl 27 druid (26 after meeting him). I was picking on a griffawn cause I've never killed one and wanted the bragging rights. Well a bout the time the griffawn is running from me along comes Grimfeather. I didn't notice the name and just thought it was another griff helping out his friend. I was wrong :(
Saw him and he coned yellow to me a 35 druid. Knew nothing about him and I normaly am a research and learn person. well what the heck its a game lets have fun. I led with ensnare he resisted. I ran and he was on me lick a bumper sticker. I tryed to recast no deal. constant interupt. So i cast spirit if cheeta and he was still on me like a bumper sticker. O well I had fun!
