Words of the PsycheNot sure if anyone's tried this or not - didn't really skim through the comments on Tani yet - but just got attacked by him for a moment.
Well, what I did was backed up a little and hit escape, hide and sneak. It seemed to work, so I'm gonna go do it again shortly when my 2 1/2 mins are up (i did my hastened escape aa's already to, to reduce reuse timer)
In other words, I did not have to run out the zone from Tani (thank God... Too far for a freakin Zone Line, damn it!), I just used Escape Hide and Sneak and it worked fine.

I was able to pick the piece with a skill of 85, and it wouldn't surprise me if skill is irrelevant (except for actual success/fail of the PP attempt).

Despawns around 7pm and respawns around 9pm in game time

To PP Tani takes time. I was on this for 3 days realy anoying, and I did not feel for killing this npc whit loads of hp alone.
Its right the others in the guild do not help him but the guards outside do. Make sure you have eather the illutionmask for dark elf or illutions potions, then you can PP him and run in zone but some guards aggros if you do not sneak and hide.

Parsed him at roughly 2 million HP, so if you're going to kill him to get him to re-spawn.. either bring some more DPS along or be prepared to AFK while meleeing him for about 20-30 min :P
Instead of waiting for his usual once-a-gameday automatic respawn, kill him and he repops immediately. Although his normal respawn is 72 minutes, I was killing him about every 15 minutes. So, the 6 spawns it took to turn up one with a parchment cost me about 90 minutes total instead of 7+ hours.
His Faction when killed was Ebon Mask not Hall of the ebon Mask. Also this mob has around 750k hp or more. Left my 76 ranger semi afk while i played Call of Duty. Fight took 45 minutes straight melee and had maybe 15 to 20 Fatal Blows from Hail of Arrows.

Was doing this quest to get the general to spawn for the high elf mask, after you try to pickpocket and are unsuccessful. Realized if i killed him he might re pop. Pulled him to the zone in and had a ranger with 11/13 headshot aa. I counted over 22 performs a FATAL BOW SHOT. which registered for 65k a pop. then all the melee damage on top of that. Finally killed him after about a 10 min fight. And he instantly respawned.

Trying to P-P through the roof no longer works. Once I figured it out, it was very easy, got on my 11th try. Just use your Mask of Deception and walk right up behind him.

Had a 65 ranger beat on this guy for a few thousand damage. HP bar didn't leave 100%. That's just wrong.

Got my parchment June 17th, 4th spawn 2nd pick. Kept switching between Foury and him.
Good luck there guys. It seems to be completely random drop.

At first I used necro baby pet to pull to zone line.. then after consulting general chat, I got brave and with only 187 skill on my 55 WE rogue, I just got behind him, hit sneak and pped for about 25 tries, and it added three to my skill
and bam there's the parchment...
much easier than founy, though I know it's not always so.
Ive been going to these boards every day for the last 3 days trying to find some secret or easier way to get it.. really its just a matter of him spawning with it and luck.. founy took 3 days and 8 total hours for me to get.

easily the most difficult part of the epic, I've been doing this for hours and hours, got him bugged for about 2 hours and played gems til he respawned becuase he kept warping and I couldn't pick him. I think I'm going to have to get a few friends to stand around him and pickpocket him til one of us gets it, this is impossible

Was wondering if something broke as I am not getting any coin whatsoever from him, even after he repops. On the 5th repop so far.

Eh it was right there in front of my face, and yet I did not see it. Tani now con's even at level 70, meaning nobody can pick them. I'm sure a fix will be in soon. Apparently the dwarf rogue gm is in the same state.
His spawn time is at 7 PM game time, just sat here and saw him pop at 7 pm not am.
If you want to know a girls faults, praise them to their girlfriends.

Confirmed 7pm game time. Seems to instantly respawn also.
Pulled him out into the open area just outside the Rogue building...kited with my bard til he was at a good spot then faded...guards left and he stayed of course. so I pulled him into the NE corner and let him beat me while rogue pp'd.
I have to heal like once every 5 min or so, so it snp to do it this way. GL landing a slow or mez lol. He Is mezzable but extremly high resists. I bard debuffed and tried several times. No go.
30+ pp's and no note. Safe to say he doesnt have it this time lol

kind of another strat on this issue... if you dont have your pick pocket skill up high enough and you keep aggroing him try this...
I used my 70 cleric to pull him to zone... zoned cleric to clear other aggro... zoned back in and used bash to get good aggro... then I let my rogue sit there and pick him clean without getting aggro and got some good skillups... still working on the parchment though didnt have it on him... heals and bash hold aggro really good just fyi

Just started this quest and I came here for info. Used my handy dandy mask o deception, walked up to ye ol Tani, picked him 5 times, walked away with the parchment. No agro, no problems just straight up 5 finger disco.

Been trying to pick this guys pocket for several weeks now on and off..
Seems like he can't be pulled to the zone by a lvl 1 necro anymore. one of his thugs chases the necro and kills him while tani stays in the guild. this makes picking his pocket much more dangerous now.

As of Oct. 5th 2004 he can still be pulled to zone using the neco pet trick. Just spent a few hours doing it. 2 full eq day spawns and no luck yet. Hope this helps
Not sure if necro pulling works or not like jriggi says, but I know for a fact that getting caught and running for the zone will still pull him to zone line and he will stay there until next spawn cycle. I just did this on my 52 DE rogue. Made it to zone line with 39% health (that was with FoS and Virt on). Went back in and he was all alone. PP'ed him dry and still nothing. Been trying off and on for several weeks with no luck yet. This was the first time I had ever been caught doing it, somehow I managed to avoid all guards and only had Tani and 1 other rogue following me. I would really suggest anyone try this mythod since I got pretty lucky, but at least he will move to zone line this way.

Just got my parchment tonight after a week of trying. I do recommend getting a lvl 1 necro and bringing him to zone. I created a DE necro, bought bone chips and lvl 1 pet spell(cavorting bones). Summoned pet behind Tani and got as far away to zone as I could so pet would attack. After I saw pet message, I ran like hell to zone. Stopped just short(passed roaming guard) and let Tani smoke me. Tani stays put for 24 game hrs. I camped back onto my WE rogue and started PP'ng away. Since he is rogue class he doesn't aggro on you regardless of race. Tani doesn't have parchment everytime but stick to this method and you'll get it..Good Luck

Dropped all my gear in the new bank slots, took some SoW potions and H&S into 3rd Gate np at all. Stood on roof (+665, -1303) still H&S, pped (skill 200) and the first time I did it agroed the entire rogue guild. HTed by one of the guards, but still made it to zone.
Moral of story - get H&S back up real quick! It total agroed about 4 times in total and made it to zone everytime (make sure you got sow) and never took more than about 700 damage.
I picked about 8 spawns of Tani before I got the parchment, but succeeded eventually. One thing, do not be put off by the "Your target is too far away" message that comes up on this roof method - you are still stealing off him.

Pickpocket will pop Hide. If Hide pops, Sneak will pop. If you drop Hide and keep Sneak up, pickpocketing won't pop your Sneak.

ok, I think someone else has tried this, just wanted to confirm it. I am KOS in Neriak, I just got a Larrikans mask and still snuck and hid all the way to Tani. got his loc and pp'd from the roof. I re snuck and hid after every attempt but I think the larrikans mask still kept me from bein seen. Got the note on 1st try of his 2nd spawn. I am lvl 50 with 191 pp skill. good luck )
I got the Mask of Deception and headed straight to Neriak. I got bound in Neriak Commons at zone to Neriak 3rd Gate. I'm level 47, have PP of 200, and S/H of about 186. I made a level 1 DE to scout this roof option first. I got to know the 3 Neriak zones safely that way. I took a couple screen shots with him; one inside with /loc:

Note that Testnoob (my DE) is facing the same direction in both pics. Stay on the 665 /loc (north and south) line for reference with Tani side-to-side. Adjust the n1303 /loc (east and west) line to be closer or farther from Tani as you see fit.
Then I logged my main Rog back on, got on the roof with DE illusion up and hidden. I have a hotbutton for "/target tani" and for "/loc". I hit PP the re-hide. I get successful PPs till I clean him out even tho I get a message saying I'm too far away from my target to PP. I did this for 3 spawns with no luck and also no agro. For me, he re-spawned at 8pm game time. The third time he re-spawned 4 times, each lasting about 3 min or so. Once hes cleaned out pray he re-spawns again a few times to give ya another shot at it. Otherwise go find something to pass the time till 8pm next game day. I'll get this no doubt :)

Maybe I got lucky, but this was a piece of cake, and I'm a Half Elf WITHOUT the DE Illusion mask. Got a SOW at Nek and bind just inside of Neriak (just in case). S/H all the way to 3rd Gate. I also had a Shiny Brass Idol (Divine Aura) with me, in case I was agro'd, I figured I could run to zone with all the DE's in tow and still survive. There are at least a dozen DE guards and trainers between the zone and Tani. Set up a hotkey to PP, Hide, Sneak and then found Tani. There were 5 DE's in the room, with 2 being right behind me when I set up behind Tani. I figured I would be spotted by the 2 DE's behind me as soon as I hit the key and unhid, before the H/S took effect again....but not the case. Had to PP 4 times, drained him of his gold, then he dropped the Parchment. Sneaked right back out, unscathed. BTW, my PP skill was 200. Hope the rest of you Rogue's are as lucky.

after picking about 50 tani spawns i finally got the note. the only way i got threw this was soloing my necro and logging at 8pm to pick tani, made the time pass quicker, hope this helps

I've almost given up on this guy.. been trying to get the parchment for sometime now. I PPed like 20+ different spawns of this guy and i got no luck, well if agroe is luck.. then i was lucky has hell! :( I don't know what to do, maybe I'll just pay someone to do the hard work for me lol.

i must have picked about 20 different tani spawns completely clean and no parchment, thank the gods for my 14 necro to assist, although i think i will create a lvl 1 necro cause my lvl 14 guy is soon to be 13 lol. good luck to you all!!!

what advantages are there to having a DE necro pull to zone? what does this guy hit for? cant you pull him yourself with arrows?

Let's just say PERHAPS i managed to kill this lil' bugger, if he had it on him would he drop it?

I returned the next by myself.... went to the rogue guild picked him clean 3 more times...no aggro, no parchment.
I decided I better not press my luck and left.
I went camped The Ishva Mal... got my Robe.
I figured, hugh I had luck in PAW lets try Tani again.
Back in Rogue guild...after the third pick WOOT! ...I got the parchment.
He is easy to pick, much easier than Founy.
Though he doesn't always have the parchment, so it may take you several trips.
My dex was at 133 and my pick skill was at 200. Of course I was lvl 50.

My PP is maxxed out at 200 and my DEX is 118. I snuck down there using my DE Illusion mask and set up shop behind him.
Managed to get cash and a few research items from him and I also managed to aggro him 3 times. Each resulted in a death on my part as the whole guild decended upon me and cut me to shreds in no time.
It was suggested to me to create a DE NEC and have that character drag him to the zone. I may have to resort to suck trickery as I do not want to die again. My only other option is to wait until level 51 when PP can go up to 210 (I think).
I have heard from several sources that he is a bugger to PP. Anyone else have problems with him?

Tani is part of the Ragebringer Epic Rogue epic quest. He sometimes spawns with a note (stained parchment half <bottom>). This must be pickpocketed off him as part of the quest.
Yes, and if you say anything about a note while you're around him, he'll say, "Oh, you want that piece of paper Stanos was so hot after?" He taps his belt pouch. "Well, its mine now, though it looks like Ogre scratch to me. You're not getting it, Stanos is not getting it, and Hanns is not getting it. It is MINE! Now, Alai, scamper off like the dog you are, before I decide I need more practice with these short swords!"
