Of course he didn't pope, he'd have to be Catholic to become Pope.
I just did this and he popped 4 minutes after despawn, exactly as stated.
For someone so impatient and jaded, maybe EQ isn't the right game. Maybe something more mentally stimulating like this game.

i when to hail that hiiker and he said i have nothing for you.
Now if the item is an ALL/ALL then me as a 63 necro should be able to get it.

Could be the fact that you have to be 65 to get it like the notes under the quest states, but then again what do I know?

gives a quest, reward is a all/all 50 mana/hp/end aug with FT3 and atk:15
called orb of mystic fury
hailing him he asks you to do a favor for a dying man, he wants you to bring this note to his brother Captain Orenu Urulump, hes located inside a tent near ashengate ZI in direwind cliffs, you can invis to him without agro, when his brother reads the note he tells you that his brother liked to search for lost artifacts and asks you if you will find his stash, the note tell him that the treasure is located vergalid mines, at a flooded wing.
head to mines and go around invis in the water area to you spot a chest (this part is easy if you can FD or fade, remember to have an open bag slot, since opening the chest will drop your invis, but if you can aford a death just open the chest since the box with the stash pops on your curser as you open it, and then just summon in lobby)
run back to captain in direwind and hand him the stash, and collect your reward.
tried doing this easy quest with my 64wiz but then he just died on me so i suspect he gives it if your at least 65 :)
also he seem to assist the drakes there, kited some too close to his spawn point just as he repopped and he instally agroed me (or i might have hit him with atol's shackles)
